Chapter 10

Misaki woke up to the sound of gentle breathing near her, the man sleeping beside her only had a thin blanket covering his rear. She touched his soft hair that seemed to have grown since the last time she saw him. She couldn't help but smile looking at him; he looked so adorable when he slept. He always manages to come and save her no matter what the situation is or where he was. Why has she been so blind to something that was so obvious? She could no longer deny her feelings for him and for the first time she didn't want to run away anymore.

Misaki hovered between consciousness and a dream like state for two days before finally coming to her senses. During that state, she had no clue about her whereabouts or surroundings. She could only recall faded traces from her memory, there was the regular beeping of the monitor that confirmed that her heart was still beating, the occasional murmured whispers of the doctors, sometimes she would even fill a pinch in her arm, but the thing that was always constant was his voice. He never stopped talking to her. It was the only thing she could hold on to.

He seemed to be her only link to reality even if the words were incoherent to her. She didn't even recognize who the voice belonged to but she knew it was someone important to her.

Most of the time she couldn't even understand what he was saying but it was somehow reassuring at the same time. She seemed to be falling apart, not only her body but her mind as well, and a part of her wanted to let go. If only she could let go. The constant struggle was too much, she was tired of fighting, fighting to survive, fighting to make ends meet, fighting to block the memories from her past that still haunted her every day. It would be so easy to let go, to not have any responsibility. She would like to be a bird in her next life if it was up to her; to be human is to suffer.

She opened her eyes when she felt some prickly bush brushing against her cheeks and there was an arm around her holding her like a cocoon. She held her breath afraid to move. A thousand questions ran through her head when she finally realized that she was hooked to an IV drip and connected to a heart monitor at the same time, which seemed to go a bit crazy as she was unable to calm her heartbeat.

Damn, at this rate Takumi would wake up, Misaki thought. Wait a minute, she couldn't go anywhere with these strange tubes attached to her body and Takumi would surely wake up at some point of time, so she might as well wake him up herself but her heart wasn't into it.

She stared at the ceiling for 5 more minutes still too afraid to move her body and when she finally had the courage to look at his face but he was already staring at her.

The blush that crept up her face and neck could put the sunrise to shame. She reflexively kicked his leg and tried to jump out of the bed but he was quicker and stronger than her and he pinned her down to the bed and was suddenly on top of her.

'I don't think so Misa-Chan', he said in a smooth voice. He had a strange smile across his face, not the usual goofy smile she was used to; he looked dead tired and angry. She stared into his emerald eyes but there was no mischief there, this was different somehow.

Her hands tried to push him away but she was too weak, he still had her pinned down to the bed so she couldn't get away, she averted her eyes as she didn't know what to say to him.

She remembered what had happened, she got attacked by those low lives and she should be dead by now, but somehow she was alive. She could only guess that somehow Usui reached there in time to save her and now here she was, completely at his mercy.

What she didn't understand was why he looked so angry. He didn't say a single word he just stared at her.

She knew that he wanted an explanation but how can she possibly tell him anything, it's unlikely that the heir to one of the largest corporation in England would understand the struggles of the poor. No, she had to get away before he started asking her questions she couldn't answer.

'Ah... Usui, thank you…for saving me, well now... I probably could have handled it on my own, but those thugs outnumbered me, also they mixed something in my drink. I think, I should let Suzuna know, and also Mrs. Flighbert... I haven't told her that I would be gone so long… um... If you could please get off me, I would like to go to my own room.

She seemed to be blabbering at this point.

His gave her a hard stare and suddenly got off her.

He stood up and that's when she realized that he looked like hell.

She couldn't believe it, she was in a coma for only two days but the alterations in his appearance were shocking. Whenever she saw him he was always properly dressed and well groomed but tonight he looked like hell. His eyes had bags under them and had lost all their playfulness. He was thinner than the last time she saw him and by the looks of it he haven't even shaved in a while.

Misaki was speechless for some time. She somehow managed to sit up straight and leaned her body towards the bed rest.

When he still didn't say anything she finally asked "What in the world happened to you?"

Takumi looked at her and clenched his jaws, "Nothing you should be bothered about" His voice was hard and he wasn't even looking at her anymore.

Misaki felt strange, why was he acting this way and why did it felt like someone was tightly clenching her heart making her harder for her to breathe.

"Takumi..." she whispered.

She wished that he would at least look at her, but he still wouldn't face her.

"Go back to your room, I think you are strong enough to walk to your chambers, after all you are oh so capable of taking care of yourself", he said in a steely voice.

It took all his self control to not scream at her.

Misaki had never heard him use that tone of voice.

When the doctors told him that she was going to be fine, he was beyond relief, but before that, he felt like he would go insane. The fear had paralyzed him and he was unable to think or act. He couldn't imagine his life without her. What the hell was he supposed to do if he couldn't hear her voice or touch her anymore?

He was terrified but he was furious too, he hated the fact and even after all this time she still couldn't bring herself to trust him. He hated to think what would have happened if he hadn't arrived on time. She could have been raped, killed or both. He didn't think he could do it anymore.

When Misaki still didn't move from her position, he said "I'll get someone to help you reach your room; you'll be more comfortable there."

He was about to leave the room when Misaki screamed at him, "Why won't you tell me what happened to you? Why are you treating me like the enemy? You won't even look at me." There was a whimper in her voice.

She never realized that Takumi cold attitude had the power to hurt her so much. Misaki had tears in her eyes. She didn't know why she was crying

He stopped mid way and looked back at her. He had reached his limit. "You want to know what happened to me? YOU happened to me." Takumi burst out.

Misaki was shocked to see his outburst but still couldn't utter a single word.

"What happened was, you almost died in my arms. I had to sit there with my heart in my throat as the doctors tried to fix you up. What happened was I thought you would die and I didn't know how I would live anymore. I was so afraid that I would lose you that I sat on your bed side for two days straight without sleeping or eating.

What happened was, I was terrified if I let go of your hand I wouldn't be able to save you so I kept on talking to you the entire time just hoping that you could hear me and have the will to live at least for my sake.

Misaki's tears were flowing uncontrollably at this point. She had no words, she just wanted to comfort him, just hold him and tell him it was okay, that she was fine.

"I am sorry... I didn't think about the consequences, I thoug..."

"No, Misaki, you never think about the consequences, you just jump right into the heart of danger, what's more is that you don't trust me at all. Even after all this time, I have hardly scratched the surface of your walls."

"I am scared that you will never trust me and that you will always keep running away and get yourself in all kinds of trouble, and I can't bear to see you get hurt Misaki, because I love you, and I know you love me too but you are too damn stubborn to admit it."

Misaki gasped, was it true? Had she really fallen in love with him? If that was the case, she had just brought more trouble on herself, he said he loved her, but if he knew about her past would he still feel the same way?

"I am leaving for US tomorrow, I won't chase you anymore Misaki; I just hope that you take care of yourself from here on, because I won't be there to protect you anymore." When he looked at her, his smile was sad, he gently patted her on the head and walked away.

Misaki clutched at her chest. NO. She couldn't let him go. The idea of never seeing him again terrified her. None of it mattered, she would tell him all about her, and then he could decide for himself if he still loved her.

To hell with her insecurities, how can she let him leave her?

"You can't leave me." She said.

"I am stubborn, impulsive and I have anger management issues, I also don't know how to cook, and I am not feminine at all. I always push you away when I want you the most, I know I am difficult but now is not the time to give up on me".

Takumi tuned, surprised at her confession, even more surprised that she would admit to wanting him.

"Come back right now" she shouted.

A small smile played on his lips as he made her way towards her. "I love you Misaki" he said softly.

She blushed unable to tear her gaze away from him, "I love you too."

"I know"

He kissed her then, fiercely, it was not one of those chaste kisses that he would place on her when he caught her unaware. He kissed her with all the pent up frustration of the last two days, not knowing whether she would live or die. He kissed her like a man. He needed to feel her, to take in as much as he could of her. He inhaled her scent and it seemed to drive him even crazier.

His hands went around waist pulling her even closer until her body was crushed to his. He placed kisses all over her face; he kissed her eyes, cheeks, forehead, just thankful that she was finally safe in his arms.

He bent down and sucked at the nape of her neck which earned him a gasp from her, he held back a chuckle and continued his sweet torture.

Misaki's head rolled back and her body was arching towards him, trying to give him greater access. Her breathing had become ragged at this point. She didn't want to admit it but she didn't want him to stop.

She cupped his face in the palm of her hands and brought his lips to her and kissed him with equal ferocity.

Takumi bit down at her lower lip gently, and thrust his tongue inside her mouth, he tried to probe her tongue to get a reaction but Misaki seemed to have frozen. He doubted anyone had kissed her like that.

He stopped kissing her and moved his head backwards to look at her face; she stared at him with wide eyes, out of breath and blushing heavily. She licked her lips as if anticipating more but Takumi only raised an eyebrow.

"You don't know how to kiss" he said in an amusing voice, a small smile was playing on lips.

Misaki blushed even furiously, "Of course I don't idiot, not everyone is a perverted alien like you."

"Who could have thought that Misa-Chan could be so hopeless at something as simple as a kiss", he seemed to be having a hard time trying not to laugh at her adorable expression.

"Whaaaaa...fine, no need to kiss me, I am going to my room, GOODBYE IDIOT USUI". Her body was trembling from the kiss they just shared and she wanted to keep on kissing him, but right now she wanted to punch him for teasing her."

She got up to leave muttering curses at him, but he caught her hand and pulled her back down. Before she could protest or say anything, he said "its okay, I will teach you".
