Chapter 9
–
Kurt never wore the same outfit twice if he could help it but he'd broken that rule when he wore the Dalton uniform for about a year but whenever he wasn't in school he was wearing his own clothes. Blaine didn't have that same rule, he wore a combination of the same clothes all the time and it was a very distinct style whereas style was Kurt's style. Blaine was comfortable in his uniform even when school wasn't in session.
He broke that rule again today as he got dressed in an outfit that was so significant in his relationship with Blaine, it had forged the way for so many things. But in true Kurt fashion, it wasn't exactly the same as he wore it that day. The kilt was around his waist and he was wearing the same jacket with chains but now he was also wearing the scarf that he'd been wearing the day Blaine had let slip that he knew Kurt's coffee order before they'd even gotten together, it had touched Kurt deeply and a major indicator of what was to come.
He also borrowed a few items from his friends – he had Finn's class ring on a necklace around his neck. Rachel's beret was cocked fetchingly on his head. If it worked with outfit he would have worn the Letterman's jacket- borrowed from Santana but he did have a bow tie on underneath the scarf, a nod to the man he was marrying. He had a pair of Brittany's boots and Mercedes was going to sing for them before they exchanged vows.
Kurt was finishing up on last touches when he heard Blaine's voice from the door and he turned in surprise. "You're so hot."
Kurt raised a brow. "Is there any tradition we're breaking with the grooms seeing each other?" Kurt asked a bit sassy and Blaine came in with a shrug.
"Even if there was, I don't care, I had to see my husband to be, it's been far too long." Blaine closed the distance between them and kissed Kurt.
Kurt flung his arms around Blaine and would have let it go further if Blaine hadn't pulled away with a groan, they didn't have enough time. "Too many layers?" Kurt asked and Blaine shook his head.
"The right layers, I know what's under that kilt." Blaine wiggled an eyebrow at that. The answer was nothing which had Blaine moving uncomfortably, unlike their prom night, but Blaine had been uncomfortable then for nearly the same reason.
"You're looking gorgeous too." His outfit was so Blaine but instead of the typical bow-tie, he was also wearing a scarf and Kurt's hippo broach.
The time they could sneak away without being missed was too far away but neither wanted to fast-forward through the ceremony, it had taken them a long time to get there but not nearly as long as many in their situation.
There was a sound and Blaine and Kurt shared a rueful smile. "I think that's our cue." They shared another kiss and then went their separate ways to join each other on the podium together at the same time.
All of their friends and family and classmates who'd ever been even remotely friendly were there to show their love and support for Blaine and Kurt.
At Kurt's door, Burt met him and gave him a strong hug and words of advice and praise and told Kurt how much he loved him and was proud of him and how he and Blaine were a very good match and he couldn't be more pleased that they worked out.
Kurt hoped Blaine had a similar experience but he wasn't sure if he would. For Blaine's part though, he had Cooper at his door telling him much of the same. For Blaine that meant more than if one of his parents had finally shown up but they were in the audience, unable to skip out on this like everything else but they hadn't needed to be overly doting.
Mr. Shue was their officiant even though Sue tried to beat him up to give it to her, she thought she was their champion and despite all the names she gave both of them, she had been in their corner, especially Kurt's.
Mr. Shue spoke excellently and gave encouraging words and praise to both and was so intimately aware of their relationship and was so proud of them. Rachel was crying as she would have no matter what during this wedding but it was especially hitting home as she recalled her own failed marriage attempt and how she would have been a widow by now had they gone through with it. She was so happy for them. Carole too was crying but proud and happy for her step-son and his love but she too couldn't help but recall another wedding she was supposed to attend in their group and age bracket. Rachel had been unsure about her romantic dalliance with Sam and how it would be received but everyone was ok with it, it was the first relationship she'd had since Finn's death and they all knew it was part of her path to recovery and healing even if it wouldn't last long. Sam knew that and was ok with it too. At least she hadn't slept with any of the cast members or the director of this production, it would have harmed her career even if it was perfectly normal for people that close all day long to do so.
Kurt and Blaine exchanged very personal vows and both were crying before the other finished. Kurt's vows had included how Blaine had not tried to push him to be anyone but himself but had found him in the dark, which Blaine swore is what Kurt did for him and not the other way around but had accepted and was moved by his words. Blaine's vows were a bit more cheeky, a bit more Kurt, honest and heartfelt but also teasing as he vowed he'd never let Kurt's phone die again. The happy and deeply felt crying and tears continued throughout the ceremony and held hands the entire time. When it came time for the rings no one objected and they exchanged them gladly and then kisses. Blaine tipped Kurt back into his arms and Kurt pulled him down for the kiss of the century.
After the ceremony and throughout dinner, they couldn't look away from each other and held their newly minted ringed hands together. "Ugh, so much love and devotion towards one another is making me sick." Santana groaned as she walked up to them. "At least give us some air to breath that's not saturated in your hormones and remember we exist too."
Even as she was talking they had a hard time looking away from one another and they both realized with a start that she was there and right. "Sorry." Kurt blushed and Blaine grinned cockily, he was the cause of that blush and whatever thoughts Kurt was having were of him. They'd totally forgotten anyone else existed.
"I almost forgot." Kurt excused himself and stood up and walked over to the band leader and spoke for a minute with him. This wedding was everything anyone ever dreamed it would be and so much more. He came back and took Blaine's hand and pulled him to his feet and started singing their duet to him, the one he always dreamed he would from Moulin Rouge. Blaine followed his lead perfectly and joined him in the impromptu dance that they had not choreographed but both knew by heart.
It ended with them chest to chest, breathing hard and just looking at each other before both went in for the kiss at the same time. Santana groaned "Not more of this!" but she was only playing and so they ignored her, she was incredibly happy for them.
Blaine surprised Kurt in return with a song he'd written just for them, music and lyrics and nobody was left wondering what the song meant or how much Blaine loved Kurt and Kurt couldn't stem the tears that kept falling from his eyes and down his cheeks. He was so lucky to have Blaine and he loved him so much.
They thanked all of their guests for coming and sharing in this momentous occasion and partied the night through with them and Kurt actually had more than a few drinks but still wasn't drunk by the night's end and neither was Blaine.
–
That night they undressed each other slowly and deliberately. Kisses followed and started before every item of clothing was taken off and as promised, Kurt had far more items than Blaine did but he almost swooned when he realized Kurt was wearing a bow-tie, how had he missed that?
The Hippo that came with a warning was placed carefully on the night stand along with the tie and the rest just dropped in their place as they stood next to each other slowly revealed their husband. Kurt had come a long way from not wanting to show his body off to anyone to being so free with Blaine and Blaine had never really thought twice about it once he was no longer at Dalton, breaking free of the rigidity more than he realized he would. They had both enjoyed their time at Dalton and Blaine was more attached to it than Kurt was but they'd both faced adversity and yet flourished at McKinley. Now in New York they were even more free to be themselves and it was because of the two schools that had showed up to support them today, three if they included NYADA. Without both those schools in Ohio, they may never have found each other and that would be a very bad thing indeed for no one could love the other like they could.
Their first attempt at this relationship had floundered but they were stronger for it and nothing would tear them apart. There'd be challenges for sure, especially as their family grew, as they realized they needed to move out of the loft they shared with their friends, but it was still a lot of fun and a lot of love.
"Well hello, there you are." Blaine said suddenly and the two shared a look that would last a lifetime between them.

The End
–
EAN: can I just say that I love that I thought Blaine was older or at least the same age but then ended up being younger in the show? I thought that was a cruel trick at first but it helped to balance the couple as Blaine was doing all the explaining about what it meant to be out and what sex was (even though he hadn't had it yet either- but probably slept with a lot more guys in the end) and how to stand up to bullies (even though he had been bullied so much worse in many ways and hadn't dealt with it quite as well) and then also protected Kurt physically, mentally and emotionally. Also Kurt was the less likely to pass as straight between the two of them but he was taller and that made it so much sweeter too because usually it's the 'guy' in the relationship that is taller. Like I said in the story both are insecure and needing to grow up in their own ways which were somewhat similar but different and yet they were both so much more mature than anyone I've ever met at their age or perhaps even older. Blaine was the 'fighter' of the two and yet it was Kurt that got into the fight and defended someone; and I liked that it was Kurt barging into a fight to protect someone that landed him in the hospital rather than a hate crime directed at Kurt, that would have been too par for the course and I liked the change, even though the fallout was lame and wished that it had spent more time on Klaine's positive side rather than negative but it made sense there too in many ways once it was all out there. People don't react logically all the time.
One thing though about the age thing – it may have seemed that Blaine was older than Kurt was because Darren is older than Chris and private school kids seem to hold themselves with more maturity compared to their peers. Also, let me just say that I've loved Darren Criss since I saw him in 2010 on A Very Potter Musical and have referenced that so much more than the actual books/movies, lol.
On a different note, I'm not a fan that all the Glee characters ended up with their High School love interests, even Rachel with Jesse (1st boyfriend if I recall correctly despite the Finn interest). That's why I've changed it in this story. Also I feel like Dave just swooped in on a very vulnerable Blaine and only went after him because he wanted a connection with Kurt, even if it was his ex, or maybe I'm viewing it too jadedly because all they seemed to do was try to make Kurt jealous, not that they hadn't been intimate but it was one of the worst choices Blaine could make and whether it was conscious or manipulated is yet to be fully debated.
EAN2: Just to mention something for you and me both- I was going to go a completely different way with some parts of this story- when Kurt comes home during that first night it was going to go down a different path but I fell asleep before writing it and it was going to be brilliant but then when I woke up in the morning I had a different idea for it and so the Kurt/Burt scene was born and I like it better, it is a bit more organic and sweet and I didn't see another area where those two could bond as much in this story later on except for one or two areas. The other thing I changed was Kurt's reaction to Blaine's 2nd proposal. At first I was going to have him upset and say something along the lines of "you can't wait until I ask, can you? Can't you understand that I'm still not ready?" but I hadn't realized how much I'd had these 2 characters grow between the 1st and 4th chapter until I wrote them and it felt like a betrayal of the progress these two have gone through. I was also going to have Kurt say "No Blaine, not like this" because he thought it was in response to fear of losing Kurt rather than a true place but then I let them heal with some time between the attack and the proposal and knew I couldn't do that. Had it been the same night, it would have been different; but I couldn't make it all sunshine and roses, could I? HAHAHA. It would have been an awfully short story had I left it there and there's just so much more to unpack with these two.
