Chapter 12- I Want to Hold Your Hand
It was coming to the end of the year at Hogwarts it was still a pretty dark world out there but at Hogwarts everything was bright and shiny as they were so close to the end of their year and summer vacation was going to start. Everyone however, were not excited to summer break and one of those people was Lily Evans she had hoped every Hogsmeade weekend James would ask her out but low and behold James never did ask her out and Lily was starting to loose hope that he ever would ask her out. Everyday Lily had to live with the truth and a constant reminder that what she wanted would never happen and that she had blown any opportunity that she had to get James. The beautiful irony of the situation she thought when she finally started to like James he stopped asking her out.
It was literally killing James that he wasn't able to ask out Lily it had been nearly a year since the last time he had asked out Lily. James would have asked out Lily by now but, Lily was too good of a friend to him that he wasn't willing to jeopardize his friendship with Lily by asking her out and changing things between them forever.
As the year was coming to an end the professors felt it be appropriate that they have yet another ball to celebrate the end of the year and also to send them off on a good note before they went off into the world but, mostly they threw it because the students were doing so well despite what was going on outside the walls of Hogwarts.
Lily really hoped that James would ask her out to the ball but a she wasn't going to get her hopes up as she assumed that it would be no different than the other Hogsmeade weekends when she was disappointed that James hadn't asked her out. Marlene and Mary noticed that Lily had been disappointed every Hogsmeade weekend. They knew that every weekend Lily had been hoping that James would ask her out. They both knew that James was still head over heels for Lily but, they also knew that James was too scared to ask out Lily because of their friendship. They needed a plan to get them together.
All the marauders were really excited for the ball except for James he was still down that he wouldn't be able to ask Lily to the ball because he wasn't about to ruin their friendship. The rest of the marauders knew that James was really down because he couldn't ask out Lily but they all saw the way that Lily blushed when she was around James. Peter, Remus, and Sirius needed to talk to Mary and Marlene.
Peter, Remus, and Sirius had gone looking for Mary and Marlene and conveniently looking for those three marauders too. All of them agreed that they needed to find a way to get Lily and James together as they wouldn't be happy until they were together. After 2 trips to the kitchen and 3 hours later they were all ready to get them together.
They had set their first half of their plan for tonight Lily was on patrol with Remus and they were going to get Sirius to take James down to the kitchens for a snack. Sirius of course would take the invisibility cloak with James and Remus would have the map to know where James and Sirius were.
"Prongs can we go to the kitchens I need a snack." Sirius asked James
"Fine." James told Sirius
Remus watched on the map as Sirius and James were sneaking down to the kitchens and he along with Lily also started to go over there.
"So, Lily has anyone asked you out to the ball yet?" Remus asked
"No nobody has asked me yet." Lily said a bit depressed
"You sound a bit disappointed." Remus noted "who did you want to ask you?"
"You have to promise not to tell anyone if I tell you." Lily told Remus
"I promise I won't tell a soul." Remus promised
"I wanted James to ask me it's a bit ironic don't you think that now that I fancy him, he doesn't fancy me anymore." Lily said sadly.
"Don't worry Lily maybe something will change, and you'll get a date." Remus said smiling as he noticed the kitchen door opening.
James and Sirius had successfully sneaked down to the kitchens without being caught even though they had the invisibility cloak James was still afraid that they might be caught right before they were about to enter the kitchen James saw Lily and Remus they stopped because if they went into the kitchen right now they would be caught and have to serve detentions for being out after curfew. While they were waiting there James couldn't help to hear the disappointment in Lily's voice when she said that she didn't have a date and James wished that he could ask her but, stayed firm that he wouldn't ruin their friendship by asking her out. But what he heard next shocked him.
"I wanted James to ask me it's a bit ironic don't you think that now that I fancy him, he doesn't fancy me anymore." Lily said sadly.
James was shocked to hear this Lily Evans actually fancies him after she hated him for five years, she actually fancies him. Remus and Lily moved on from the kitchens on their patrol and he swears that he saw Remus look at him and smirk. James was now going to ask out Lily Evans to the ball and he was going to start planning right after they got a snack of course.
James had been nonstop planning on how to ask Lily out he knew that he had to make this perfect as this had been his dream since he first saw her.
Lily was nervous as James had said that he needed to tell her something after dinner. There is no way that he found out that she liked him unless Remus told him. Now thinking back on telling Remus this she should have never have trusted him with this and now Remus had told James and he was going to let her down easily. When she got to the common room, she had a few tears as she knew James was going to reject her. She quickly wiped them away before James could see and she was ready to be rejected but, she was shocked as James started to sing.

During that verse James reached out to her hand when he sang the I want to hold your hand lines but, didn't touch her hand as this was part of his plan

Lily in this moment kept out her hand wanting James to hold her hand. She was almost in happy tears as she felt like her dreams were finally becoming true.
And when I touch you, I feel happy inside.
It was at this moment James took Lily's hand and smiled at her.

James than went up to Lily and took her hand and held her hand and he felt happy inside.
