Drake, Silena, Percy, Clarisse, Annabeth, and Tyson sat around a table that had a large map of the Bermuda Triangle and were preparing to set sail into the entrance of the Sea of Monsters.
A day had past since Annabeth, Percy and Tyson had come onto the ship and luckily Percy and Clarisse stayed out of each other's way and didn't say anything during dinner, which everyone was thankful about.
The status of Drake and Silena's relationship became clear to the three newcomers when they saw them walk into the kitchen hand in hand. After they confirmed they were together, Percy grinned happily, Tyson clapped, and Annabeth... Annabeth just jumped over the table to hug the two of them, telling them it was about time and that she was happy they were finally together.
She knew how much Silena made Drake happy, and how happy Silena was when she thought about Drake or was around him.
Although she started teasing them by asking if she will be an aunt anytime soon, which made Drake and Silena spit out whatever they were eating/drinking and blush while shouting that they had not done...that.
"So, when will we arrive at the entrance?" Percy asked as he looked over the map with Tyson sitting beside him.
"Within the hour. We'll need to be prepared and ready for what we find there, it will be heavily guarded by two of the most dangerous sea monsters." Drake said.
"Charybdis and her sister Scylla, right?" Percy said, getting a nod from everyone.
"Yeah, from what I've read about those two, Scylla was a beautiful naiad who was loved by Glaucus, but Glaucus himself was also loved by the goddess sorceress Circe. While Scylla was bathing in the sea, the jealous Circe poured a baleful potion into the sea water which caused Scylla to transform into a frightful monster with four eyes and six long snaky necks equipped with grisly heads, each of which contained three rows of sharp shark's teeth. Her body consisted of 12 tentacle-like legs and a cat's tail, while six dog's heads ringed her waist. In this form, she attacked the ships of passing sailors, seizing one of the crew with each of her heads." Silena explained.
"Then there's her sister, Charybdis. She was a daughter of Poseidon and a water Nymph. She aided her father in his feud with her paternal uncle Zeus and, as such, helped him engulf lands and islands in water. Zeus, angry over the land she stole from him, captured and chained her to the sea-bed. Long story short, she was changed into a monster by Zeus."
"So they were cursed and changed for something that was out of their control?" Percy asked with a little anger, especially since one of them was basically his half-sister.
"Yeah, we all know the gods can be petty when things don't go their way, Percy." Drake pointed out, although he too was a little pissed off at how two women were changed into monsters just because of the gods. No matter the story, it seemed the gods were responsible for changing them in the end.
"So which will be trying to get pass?" Annabeth asked after being silent for a moment, thinking.
Drake ran a hand through his hair, letting out an exhale as he thought it over. Percy was confused though. "Isn't there another way in without passing them?"
"No. All entrances into the Sea of Monsters involve passing them." Drake said with a sigh, oh how he wished they could easily pass those two. "We could try and avoid Charybdis but then we would have to deal with Scylla, but if we avoid her then we face her sister so we will face either if we avoid the other."
"Yeah, but Charybdis is a giant whirpool, so she could be much easier to take on." Clarisse said.
"Clarisse," Percy said, "Charybdis sucks up the sea. Isn't that the story?"
"And spits it back out again, yeah." Clarisse nodded
"What about Scylla?" Percy asked
"She lives in a cave, up on the cliffs. If we get too close, her snaky heads will come down and start plucking sailors off the ship." Silena replied.
"Choose Scylla then," Percy said. "Everybody goes below deck and we chug right past."
"it's not that simple, Percy." Drake shook his head. "Even if we did do that, Scylla may just take the entire boat and rip the metal off to get us."
"Agreed." Clarisse nodded. "Besides, she's too high to make a good target. My cannons can't shoot straight up. Charybdis just sits there at the center of her whirlwind. We're going to steam straight toward her, train our guns on her, and blow her to Tartarus!"
"Direct, but it may be our best shot." Drake nodded. "Get your things ready and meet up in an hour."
About an hour later, everyone had done as Drake said and gotten their armour and weapons ready. Drake didn't wear armour, but he did have his sword, guns, bow and quiver of arrows with him in case he needed them.
He met up with Silena, Annabeth, Percy and Tyson, who were all on deck. He then noticed Clarisse wasn't there and looked around for her before heading back below deck to her quarters when he suddenly heard.
"I don't want excuses, little girl!" He knew that voice, it was the voice of the God of War...Ares.
Drake placed his ear against the door, frowning as he listened.
"Y-yes, father," Clarisse mumbled.
"You don't want to see me mad, do you?"
"No, father."
"No, father," Ares mimicked. "You're pathetic. I should've let one of my sons take this quest."
"I'll succeed!" Clarisse promised, her voice trembling. "I'll make you proud."
"You'd better," he warned. "You asked me for this quest, girl. If you let that slimeball Jackson or that Redgrave kid steal it from you—"
"But the Oracle said—"
"I DON'T CARE WHAT IT SAID!" Ares bellowed with such force that his image shimmered.
"You will succeed. And if you don't …"
Drake's eyes widened when he heard a smack and realized Ares was there, not as an Iris message but he was phsyically there and just smacked his own daughter.
Narrowing his eyes, Drake Spartan kicked the door opened and in the blink of an eye thanks to his speed he got from his father, he stood between the God of War and Clarisse with Judgement in hand.
"Redgrave." Ares growled.
"Fuck off, Ares." Drake glared at the God of War. He glanced at Clarisse to see her holding her red cheek. "Go back to Olympus or I will kick your ass again like I did last time."
"You dare you little freak?!" Ares snarled as he glared at the son of Artemis. He grunted before he spat at Drake's feet then flashed away back to Olympus.
Drake sheathed Judgement, turned and got to a knee as he looked at Clarisse. "here, let me see." he softly said, gently moving her hand out the way to see the red mark from Ares; slap and Drake growled at the sight of it. "Has he done this before?"
She shook her head much to his relief. "Only when he is really mad." She whispered. "He never hit me when I was younger, mainly over the last few years since I came to camp. He hates having daughters, doesn't see them as warrior material."
Drake scoffed. "Well fuck him, Aunt Athena and my Mom would say otherwise. Those are two of the most badass women I've heard of next to Aunt Trish and Aunt Lady." He pulled her into a hug and whispered. "You don't always have to put on a tough face, Clarisse. I won't let him do that to you again, I promise. It's okay to feel vulnerable at times. Let it out, there's no one else here. I promise I won't say a word to anyone."
Clarise started shaking before she clutched him like a lifetime and buried her face in his shoulder, sobbing. Drake just held her, saying nothing. Eventually, after she let it all out, she pulled away, wiping her eyes.
"You are important to me, Clarisse, just like Silena, Annabeth, Katie, and I value you as a friend, hell even as a sister. You act like the tough, older sis who likes to be tough for those she cares about despite not showing it much." Drake said, wiping away her tears. "no matter what anyone says, no matter who your parent is or the instant things someone things because of it, you are a smart and strong girl that will do anything to protect and save a friend."
Clarisse felt tears coming to her eyes at his word but stopped them and punched his shoulder lightly. "i'll kick your ass if you tell anybody about this." SHe said playfully.
Drake smirked. "Wouldn't expect anything less, War girl. Now come on, let's go take on two monsters that need an ass kicking."
Clarisse laughed and wrapped an arm around his shoulder as the two friends elft the room and went up top. Nobody noticed them arrive, except Silena who's eyes widened upon seeing the redness in Clarisse's and she rushed over to check on her friend while Drake walked away, knowing Clarisse will want to explain it.
Once she was finished, Silena walked over to Drake and gave him one heated, passionate kiss and thanked him for defending her friend to which he smiled at. He then looked ahead as Clarisse looked around through a pair of binoculars.
The sky was overcast. The air was humid and hazy.
"We're close, very close." Drake said as he sniffed the air.
The engine groaned as they increased speed.
Tyson muttered nervously, "Too much strain on the pistons. Not meant for deep water."
After a few more minutes, the dark splotches ahead of them came into focus. To the north, a huge mass of rock rose out of the sea—an island with cliffs at least a hundred feet tall. About half a mile south of that, the other patch of darkness was a storm brewing. The sky and sea boiled together in a roaring mass.
"Hurricane?" Annabeth asked hopefully before she saw the stoic expression on the three older demigods.
"No," Clarisse said. "Charybdis."
"Get ready!" Drake told them as he unsheathed Judgement.
As the ship got closer, the sound of Charybdis got louder and louder—a horrible wet roar like the galaxy's biggest toilet being flushed. Every time Charybdis inhaled, the ship shuddered and lurched forward. Every time she exhaled, the ship rose in the water and was buffeted by ten-foot waves.
Silena grabbed Drake's hand on instinct and he held her hand just as tightly as she gripped his.
However, they could feel heat beneath them and knew it was the engine. That was not what they needed right now, the engine giving out from burnout while trying to avoid a large sea monster,
"Tyson, think you can go down to the engine room and find a way to keep it cool?" Drake asked.
Everyone looked to Tyson who grinned. "I will fix it. Be right back." He sprinted down the stairwells and into the engine room.
'This is not going to be fun.' Drake thought to himself. 'I must have dad's luck to be facing giant ass monsters. He told me Mundus was as big as the Empire State Building.'
Olympus
The Gods were up on Olympus, having another meeting, Athena explaining that the camp was holding but there was a lot of activity in Tartarus. Zeus was about to call the meeting to an end when the doors to the throne room burst open and in came Poseidon's wife, Amphitrite.
"Amphitrite?" Poseidon said in surprise but was nevertheless glad to see his wife.
"my love." The Queen of Atlantis greeted her husband after she gave a quick bow to Zeus who nodded. She smiled at Hera who smiled back. The two had bonded together whenever they needed to talk after finding out their husbands had not been faithful and sired a demigod. "I bring grave news."
"What news?" Poseidon asked with cocnern, seeing the fear in his wife's eyes before the eyes of all widened at what she said.
"The Kraken has been released."
Poseidon nearly dropped his trident while the others gods went wide eyed. They knew just how dangerous the Kraken was and that it had caused great destruction wherever it went.
"How? It was imprisoned with the strongest chains in the ocean." Poseidon said. He should know, he personally imprisoned that beast with those chains so tightly and with so many it could not even move one of it's limbs.
"I do not know, but something or someone has broken those chains." Amphitrite said with a grave tone before she looked at him. "It was reported heading directly towards the Sea of Monsters...where those demigods are on their quest."
The eyes of many widened, at least those who cared for those demigods. "Silena." Aphrodite whispered with terror.
"Drake." Artemis, Hestia, and Apollo whispered in the same horror-filed tone.
Athena and Poseidon were worried, having found out that their children had met up with the quest and joined them and were on that ship that was currently in the Sea of Monsters.
Ares began laughing, which got everyone's attention.
"And what is so funny, brother?" Athena demanded with a glare. "Do you not care that your own daughter is on that quest as well?"
"Oh let her die, she's weak and useless, always needs Artemis' brat to defend her." Ares scoffed. "The Kraken may do us a favour and get rid of them all for us."
"YOU HEARTLESS BASTARD!" Artemis yelled and tried going for her half-brother but Apollo and Hestia held her back while Ares grinned. "Let me go!"
"We cannot allow our children to face that monster." Aphrodite said, looking at Athena, Poseidon, and Artemis who nodded in agreement.
"We must stop it before it can reach them and imprison it. Perhaps kill it if we can." Poseidon said, though he had little faith in the latter. The Kraken was not an easy creature to kill."
"No." Zeus said as he stood with a bolt of lightning following. "You know the Law! We cannot interfere!"
"But father-!"
"I HAVE SPOKEN!" Zeus boomed as he used his authority as King to make sure everyone stayed where they were. Hera looked bored at it all.
Ares grinned and snapped his fingers to summon an Iris message and some popcorn. "We might as well watch and enjoy the show."
The gods and goddesses who actually cared for the demigods glared at him.
Back with the demigods
"Percy! Think you can use your control over water to help?" Drake asked as he held Judgement tightly in his right hand.
Percy nodded and closed my eyes and tried to calm the sea, but he couldn't concentrate. Charybdis was too loud and powerful. The waves wouldn't respond.
"I—I can't," Percy said miserably.
"Dammit!" Drake growled.
"We need a backup plan," Annabeth said. "This isn't going to work."
Before she could give one, the ship lurched again and threw most down to the deck while some stayed on their feet but held onto something to prevent their fall.
Full reverse!" Clarisse screamed above the noise. The sea churned around them, waves crashing over the deck. "Get us within firing range! Make ready starboard cannons!"
Dead Confederates rushed back and forth. The propeller grinded into reverse, trying to slow the ship, but everyone kept sliding toward the center of the vortex.
They then saw Charybdis.
'Holy shit...' Drake thought as he saw the massive teeth and the mouth in the center of the whirlpool that was Charybdis.
Lady Clarisse," the captain shouted. "Starboard and forward guns are in range!"
"Fire!" Clarisse ordered.
Three rounds were blasted into the monster's maw. One blew off the edge of an incisor.
Another disappeared into her gullet. The third hit one of Charybdis's retaining bands and shot back at the ship, snapping the Ares flag off its pole.
"Again!" Clarisse ordered.
Drake grabbed his bow and knocked an arrow, trying to see if he can find an eye, whenever he fired at the monster the window would knock it away into a tooth which cracked and just pissed the monster off. Drake shouldered his bow and whipped out Dawn and Dusk, firing at the monster in the hopes of hitting anywhere that would take her out.
Then the vibrations in the deck changed. The hum of the engine got stronger and steadier.
The ship shuddered and the ship started pulling away from the mouth.
"Tyson did it!" Annabeth and Silena said.
"Wait!" Clarisse said. "We need to stay close!"
"We'll die!" Percy said. "We have to move away."
Suddenly, the mouth snapped shut. The sea died to absolute calm. Water washed over Charybdis.
Then, just as quickly as it had closed, the mouth exploded open, spitting out a wall of water, ejecting everything inedible, including our cannonballs, one of which slammed into the side of the CSS Birmingham with a ding like the bell on a carnival game.
Everyone was thrown backwards. Drake kept Silena close to him and shook his hair to get water out, his clothing drenched with water.
Another smoldering sailor burst out of the hold. He stumbled into Clarisse, almost knocking them both overboard. "The engine is about to blow!"
"Where's Tyson?" Percy demanded.
"Still down there," the sailor said. "Holding it together somehow, though I don't know for how much longer."
The captain said, "We have to abandon ship."
"No!" Clarisse yelled.
"We have no choice, m'lady. The hull is already cracking apart! She can't—"
He never finished his sentence. Quick as lightning, something brown and green shot from the sky, snatched up the captain, and lifted him away. All that was left were his leather boots.
"Oh fuck." Drake said, speaking everyone's thoughts. "Scylla."
"Scylla!" a sailor yelled, as another column of reptilian flesh shot from the cliffs and snapped him up. It happened so fast it was like watching a laser beam rather than a monster.
Scylla revealed herself, her heads hissing as they inched closer to the boat when she suddenly stoped and all heads looked in a direction as even Charybdis ceased what she was doing.
Then to everyone's confusion, Scyall retreated in...fear?
Charybdis retreated into the ocean and it went calm.
"What happened? Did we scare them off?" Percy asked hopefully.
"We didn't. Something else did." Drake shook his head as he looked where Scylla had looked, seeing something was coming, a lump of water moving towards them. Something was coming.
The wave of water got faster and closer to them before it fell and the water was calm again, amking everyoen look at each other, suddenly something burst out and grabbed a zombie sailor, dragging him into the ocean.
"What the Hades?!" Annabeth shouted.
Suddenly a tentacle burst out the ocean with the zombie sailor in hand befor eit sank back into the ocean.
"What was that?" Percy asked with wide eyes.
They got their answer when giant Octopus-like tentacles burst out the water...
And so we enter the Kraken! As Davy Jones said "Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up at the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake... the Kraken!"
As for the Kraken's design in this...I'm kinda going for it's Clash of the Titans 2010.
