While swimming out of the cave was easy enough, heading back to the boat was almost difficult. Thankfully the gang was able to figure out where to go, remembering their journey from the boat to the cave.
It was simple, all they had to do was go in the direction opposite from where the statues were pointing in and let their memory playback machines in their minds show them how to successfully get back to the boat.
As Sonic, Lara and their friends swam past the Ratakyan statues pointing the way to the cave, the blue hero couldn't help but try and ponder again what Lybea Afericana was and where did it come from.
Having seen the world map multiple times, Sonic didn't recall seeing other continents and countries except for the known ones, including islands such as his home South Island and Knuckles' airborne home the Floating Island.
Then again, after years of traveling the world and visiting so many locations, maybe the speedy hedgehog had missed something and there was more about the world that he had no knowledge about?
No, Sonic thought, If there really was another nation, continent or island out there that I haven't explored, I'd know by now and would've been speeding on over to see whatever this uncharted place happened to be.
Shrugging it off and deciding not to worry until later, the hedgehog and his companions swam onward, passing by the statues they'd passed earlier until they were beneath the shadow of a boat just up above them.
The Relano yacht. Sonic and Lara swam upwards with Tails and Sarah right behind them, they surfaced and climbed aboard the deck of the boat to find Oskar sitting on his lawn chair, waiting for them with a smile.
"You survived!" He exclaimed, "I'm thrilled you made it back without something terrible happening to you, I was almost worried. What were you all up to while down there, chasing after fish, fighting amongst yourselves?"
"Nothing except for us getting' the key." Lara replied, holding up what was their last Ratakyan Key. "We did it, we got all the keys. After we relax, we go get that statue and, well, that's it. What happened while we were gone?"
"Eh, nothin' much." Oskar said, "All was well. Actually, a couple folks came by on a motorboat and asked me about ya. I told 'em I had no idea, the reason why was because I smelled somethin' fishy about those people."
"Can you tell us who those people were?" Sarah asked.
"Well, that one bloke was burly with this thick Russian accent and he did have a gun with him. The other man was tall and had an Irish accent, claimed they were secret agents volunteering for MI6 and the CIA."
"Sounds kinda fishy." Sonic said, "Anything else."
"The two fellers were accompanied some fat hippy bloke with orange hair wearing sunglasses, looked like their boss. He tossed me a note, which I have in me pocket, before they drove off while laughing."
"Hold on!" Tails held up his hand, "How fat was that orange haired guy?"
Oskar shrugged, "Really hard to tell."
"Can we see the note?" Lara asked.
"Sure." Oskar reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of folded paper, he unfolded the paper before handing it to Sonic and Lara, who both took a look at it and raised their eyebrows as they started to read it...
Dear Hedgehog and Croft,
You have done well gathering the Ratakyan Keys for me, I have already found the temple where the statue is hidden in.
My workers could've dug a way in there to get the statue, but its best to wait until you get there.
When you come for the statue, I will be waiting in the shadows until you collect it and I will come out to pick it up to use it for my own interests.
See you soon.
-KIDARN TOMBORT
After reading the letter, the blue blur was greatly confused. "Kidarn Tombort?" He pondered, "Who the heck is Kidarn Tombort and where did this guy come from? I've never heard of this guy before..."
"I dunno." Oskar shrugged, "Its pretty strange, there's nobody on the planet who has a name like that. I wish I could do research, but then again, there is a chance that nothing will come up."
"Either way," Tails commented as he scratched his chin, "Why do I smell something ominous about orange haired hippy guy and that strange name as if it was the anagram for a name we might know and the guy was...?"
"Lemme see the paper." Sarah requested, taking the letter from Sonic and Lara, she looked it over and turned the paper around, finding blank space. However, Sarah saw two words there: SIGNED BY TOBORKIN OVIDROCOT.
"What the...?" She exclaimed, "Who is Toborkin Ovidrocot and how is he possibly connected to Kidarn Tombort, assuming they really are connected or related in some way, shape or form? The mystery is really starting to get weird."
"Why don't we get back to shore, head back to the mansion and worry about this bizarre mystery later?" Sonic suggested, "We got all the keys and there's a freaking ancient statue just waiting for us somewhere in the world."
"You're right." Lara said, "Lets not worry about anything right now. Right now, lets return to shore and give Teresá her boat back."
"Shall I take the wheel again?" Sarah asked.
"You're the navigator." Sonic nodded, "Ms. Vulpine, get the engines running."
Sarah saluted and started up the engines, "Aye, aye, Cap'n Sonic, sir."
Like the boat voyage from the Relano house to the middle of the ocean, the journey back to the house took eight minutes without any serious problems. When the pier and the house got closer, Sarah slowed the speed.
Just as they were coming into port, Sonic and Lara found Teresá standing on the dock with her son Pedro at her side. As the boat slowed to a stop, Lara stepped off the boat and happily hugged her friend.
"I see you succeeded in getting the key very easily," Teresá said with great enthusiasm as she noticed the watery blue colored ancient key in Lara's hand, "Plus, you brought back my boat without a scratch on it."
"We sure did." Sonic nodded, "And we're totally in the way past cool and clear because nothin' happened to it and no bad guys put a scratch on it because they knew not to mess with Sonic and Lara... and friends."
"I will say this, amigo..." Teresá commented with a sweeter smile, "You and Lara as well as your friends really are heroes and the heroics and skill of Sonic the Hedgehog and Lara Croft have put a lot of fear into your enemies."
"Just one question?" Tails asked, "What the heck of Lybea and Afericana?"
Pedro's jaw dropped and his eyes widened, he muttered something in Spanish along the lines of what in the world are you talking about. Teresá smiled, "Why don't we discuss this inside over a cup of tea?"
After changing out of their swimsuits and into normal clothes (shirts, pants, shoes, etc.), Sonic, Lara and their friends sat down in the living room in the house with Teresá and Pedro, gathered around a table with tea in hand.
Being generous enough, Teresá gave Sonic a chili dog, which she happened to know about and had been capable of making. Having just eaten the chili dog, the hedgehog had been drinking his warm tea to wash down the meal.
"So, you've no idea where or what Lybea and Afericana are?" Teresá asked, taking a sip of her own tea from a china cup she'd owned for years.
"No idea," Tails replied, "We never heard of it until today, where did Lybea and Afericana all come from and how are we supposed to find a temple with an ancient statue in a country or continent that probably don't even exist?"
"I wouldn't say that." Teresá commented, "I'd say that Lybea and Afericana have changed. Lets think about this, where is Egypt on the world map?"
"Its in Africa." Lara answered.
"And what country is next to Egypt on the left?"
"That's the country of Libya."
"Can you say Africa without the ah...?"
"Afric." Sarah raised her hand with enthusiasm, "Africa with no ah.".
"Now lets put e between f and ar, add "ana" after ric and what do we get?"
"We get Afericana..."
Tails' eyes widened, "Its 'Africa' with added words and spelled differently! Hold on a sec, the place known as Afericana is actually the continent of Africa but just under a different name without anybody knowing?"
Sonic looked at Tails, then at Sarah and at Teresá. "Whoa, wait a sec!" He exclaimed, "Are you saying that Afericana is Africa? What the freaking hooba is going on, where did the term Afericana come from in the first place...?"
"That was Africa's original name." Pedro explained, "It originally went by the name Afericana, just as certain countries went by different names, some continents went by different names that changed as time passed."
"Kinda like with Iran going by the name Persia and Iraq originally being known as Babylon." Lara commented, "Or Syria being known as Assyria as well as Palestine becoming the Israel we all know in the world today."
"Its also like towns having names that change," Teresá said with a nod, "As we know, Sha-Guvara once went by Sha-Matuka. Now, about the 'mysterious' Lybea, what if I told you the country of Libya had a different name?"
"What was Libya's original name, Teresá?" Tails asked.
"I'll clue you in, while people have called it 'Libya' and pronounced it as 'Li-be-ah', some have actually pronounced it as 'Ly-be-ya'. Originally, Libya was named and pronounced differently."
"Um, are you saying that Libya is actually Lybea?" Sonic quipped, "If so, then why didn't we figure it out in the first place and why didn't you edit your ancestor's letter a bit to clarify the Lybea-Afericana deal?"
Pedro interjected, "First of all, My mamma and I can confirm that Libya and Lybea are the same country just with different names. Number dos, the reason why nobody edited the letter was because we thought you'd figure it out alone."
Sonic, snapped his fingers, "Hooba dooba, I just realized that letter is telling us the temple with the Statue of Senga is in Libya, Africa."
"We better head over there then," Lara remarked, "But, uh, lets finish our tea first and head back to the mansion to rest up more first."
"Good luck on getting to the statue before any of your enemies do." Teresá said encouragingly, "May it be of good fortune."
