The last time Cana had been in the van she was many things. Bored. Angry. Frustrated. Dreading her life for the next two weeks. That was not the case this time. This time she was practically squirming in her seat from excitement. The group was on their way to the shopping districts on the beach. They would park there, buy swimsuits and then split up to do whatever they wanted. Since the area would be bustling with all of the students and group leaders from Fairy Tail, Erza deemed it safe enough for the teenagers to wander about on their own. The only rules were that they know where the designated spot on the beach was where Erza would be at all times with their stuff and that they did not leave the shopping district. Other than that, they had full freedom.

Cana could not wait to see Laxus. They were going to swim and play first and break a few rules first and then in the last hour or two they would go searching for anything they could use to break more rules in the shopping district.

The previous night Makarov had made an announcement during evening service (Cana and Laxus took a break from their rule breaking PDA session to listen) saying that all of the rules that applied to Fairy Tail on campus also applied to Fairy Tail at the beach. Which was good and bad. Bad because it meant that everyone had to wear big shirts over their bathing suits, but good because it meant that a whole bunch of rules were now easy as hell to break.

It was going to be awesome.

They found a spot in a parking garage in the shopping district and it was only a two minute walk to a store that sold bathing suits. Everyone brought big shirts so they only had to find cheap bathing suits that fit them. Cana was totally going to break the rules and take off her shirt whenever she got the chance so she looked for a bathing suit she actually liked and, if just glanced at, would not raise any alarms. She found a teal one piece with a flouncy off-the-shoulder top. It was cute and it was cheap. She bought it.

They all changed in the store's bathroom and she threw on her shirt over top of the bathing suit for now. Cana pulled her hair up and shoved her clothes into her large tote bag before exiting the bathroom and joining the group.

Wendy asked to look around, saying she might want to buy a matching bathing suit for her sister as a gift and Erza said yes. This also gave the rest of the group to browse the store. So Cana did just that. She walked around the entirety of the store, looking for anything that might be of use to her. And boy, she was not disappointed. She rounded a corner and came face to face with a wall that seemed like it had been put there for her. Talk about divine intervention. She grabbed what she needed, purchased the stuff quickly and hid them in her bag as best she could. It was a little bit difficult with the size of the objects.

As soon as Cana was sure that her goods would not be discovered, she tagged along with Lucy for the rest of the browsing. When Erza called for them to head to the beach, Cana was even more excited. She practically skipped alongside her companions. She had her phone in her hand, awaiting a call from Laxus to disclose his position. They were within sight of the beach and still no text from him. Cana was beginning to worry. Did he get caught up with something? Was he lost?

Erza led the group to a spot on the beach surrounded by other groups and she set up their towels and umbrella.

"Alright group, this is where we meet at the end of the day! Have at it!"

Erza headed towards a fellow group leader, leaving the kids to decide what they wanted to do.

Cana set her stuff down on her own towel before feeling someone tickling at her sides.

"Found you!"

"Laxus!"

He was wearing lightning bolt swim trunks and a big purple t-shirt. And no coat!

"Are you cold," Cana teased.

"Freezing actually!"

"Cana, who's your friend?"

Cana turned around to see the kids in her group all watching her with curiosity. Had they not seen her with Laxus before? They must have, they were literally always together? Or did they just not know who he was? Had she really never introduced them?

"Uh, guys, this is Laxus! He's my...friend."

She really didn't know what to call him. They hadn't really talked about putting a title on their relationship and even if they had, would it be appropriate to tell her group members.

"Laxus, this is Juvia, Lucy, Natsu, Wendy, and Gajeel."

"Sup," Laxus greeted and the rest followed sweet.

"Laxus is in Juvia and Cana's class," Juvia explained to the group.

"Yup," Cana confirmed. "Real quick, while I have you guys here," Cana began speaking. She looked around for Erza, finding her distracted and heading towards the shopping district. Perfect. "I need your help with something."

"What is it," Wendy asked. She was concerned. Oh poor thing. Bless her.

"Well you see," Cana told them, reaching into her bag, "I have these and I need some people to help me use them."

Out of her bag she pulled two large super soaker guns holding one in each hand. Everyone's jaws dropped at the sight of the two insanely cool Nerf guns in Cana's possession. She tossed one to Laxus which he barely caught and the other to Lucy.

"And wow, by coincidence, I have the perfect amount for all of us," Cana exclaimed. She pulled out another big gun and a smaller one tossing them to Natsu and Wendy respectively. She handed Juvia and Gajeel theirs and then swung hers over her shoulder.

"So what do you say? Good ol' fashion girls vs boys?"

"Alright! I'm getting all fired up," Natsu shouted, studying his gun. Lucy smirked and pulled her hair up into twin tails.

"If Natsu's in, I'm in!"

Juvia, Gajeel and Wendy all exclaimed their approval, getting hyped up as well. Cana winked at Laxus and he grinned back.

Clearly Cana's group members hadn't read their list of rules too hard.

The guns were loaded. The teams were ready. The girls and boys stood hunched over, ready to go. They looked like two football teams on opposite sides of the line of scrimmage. They had agreed. Last team to run out of water won.

"Ready," Cana asked, receiving silent approval. Then, without any more words, the girls and boys charged at each other, trying their best to soak any member of the opposite team.

Cana obviously went for Laxus first. Was there any way to go?! He clearly had the same idea. They locked eyes and Cana could see the excitement in his. He raised his gun to blast her but she ducked and ran closer to the ground, spraying him in the stomach.

"Yes! First blood!"

She held up her finger and thumb to her forehead and stuck out her tongue at him. When he raised his soaker to spray her, Cana quickly dodged to get away.

"I'm out," Cana heard Wendy yell from a little bit away. Damn. Smaller gun. She felt her adrenaline rushing even faster as she looked around for an easy target. It looked like Natsu and Gajeel were ganging up on Juvia. Not for long!

Cana aimed and sprayed Gajeel in the back. Clean shot! He yelled sharply and turned to look for the one responsible. His eyes landed and Cana and he grinned competitively. He aimed at her and let it rip, spraying as much water as he could to try and soak her. Cana tried her hardest to dodge and spray back that the same time. She got one good stream of water right in his chest before he got her right back.

The cold salt water startled her and it stopped her dead in her tracks. He went to shoot her again but his gun was out.

"Darn! I'm out!"

"Juvia is out too," the blue haired girl exclaimed.

It was now Lucy and Cana against Natsu and Laxus. Cana nearly gagged at the smell of the salt water on her but continued to rush towards her partner anyway. She and Lucy stood back to back trying to aim their guns at the boys running around them.

"Go Cana and Lucy!"

"Don't you two idiots lose this!"

Cana took a shot at Laxus. It barely hit him but it landed none the less.

"I'm almost out," Lucy told Cana. The brunette shook her own gun.

"Me too. Just make every shot count! I'm going for Laxus!"

Cana broke away from Lucy making a run right at Laxus. They fired their guns at each other, each getting a face full of salt water. Their guns stopped firing water at the same time.

"Out," they said in synch.

"Yes," Cana heard Lucy squeal.

"Out," Natsu yelled. "Darnnit!"

Cana, Juvia and Wendy ran up to Lucy, hugging her!

"Oh my gosh, yes Lucy! Main character moment," Cana exclaimed as she squeezed her blonde friend.

"Thanks?"

"Natsu, you idiot! You shouldn't have wasted so much water on Juvia!"

"Hey you took all of yours out on Cana!"

Cana turned to see Laxus laughing at his two team members bickering.

"Good job gang," Cana told the group, stepping between the arguing boys. She grabbed their guns. "My dreams have been fulfilled and now I'm gonna go swimming."

"Natsu~" Lucy giggled, grabbing him by the arm. "You promised to go to the shopping district with me if we won! A deal's a deal!"

"No! Help! Someone!"

Gajeel chortled at the sight of poor Natsu being dragged away.

"Well, he shouldn't have made such a stupid bet," Gajeel grumbled.

"Gajeel, would you like to make a sandcastle with Wendy and Juvia?"

"Sure."

And with that, Cana and Laxus were left alone. He sat down on her towel as she packed up the water guns again. She tossed him her rule book.

"Cross out the water fight rule."

"Done and done. That was pretty fun. We totally would have won if it wasn't for Gajeel."

"Oh hush. We're better than you, just admit it," Cana teased as she pulled her wet shirt over her head. Laxus's eyes went wide. It wasn't that her bathing suit was revealing or anything. She was just so hot to him.

"Anyway, let's go swimming and get it over with before going shopping. I haven't been to the beach in a while."

She walked towards the water while Laxus just kind of trailed after her.

"Excuse me miss, don't you know that you're breaking the dress code?"

Cana was now thigh deep in the water, but for Laxus it was only a little above knee deep. She looked up at him and rolled her eyes.

"Isn't that the point?"

She turned around to dip her sandy hands in the water to wash them, only for Laxus to grab her from behind and heave her up into the air.

"Uh, what are you doing," Cana asked. She hadn't really been picked up, not since she was like eight anyway. She craned her head to look at his red, smiling face. "Aw, somebody has a little crush on me," Cana giggled in a baby voice.

"So what," Laxus mumbled, looking away from her. He had just wanted to hold her as close and as tight as possible and this was the easiest way. "I have to make the most of it while you're here."

Cana furrowed her brows in confusion. He sensed her uneasiness and set her down, worried that he had crossed a line.

"What do you mean "while I'm here". Where else would I be?"

"Well, after the camp. We won't see each other," Laxus said. He just flat out said it. They had both thought it but neither of them had ever had the guts to say it. Cana admitted to herself that she was worried she would throw up if either of them say it. She did not throw up.

"What are we going to do when it's over," Cana asked quietly.

Laxus realized that this was a very loaded question. It had many implications. Were they going to be together as an actual couple after camp ended or was this one of those summer romances people talk about or see in movies? If they were a couple would they actually do long distance? Would they see each other at all or would it just be texting and phone calls for months on end? Was there even a right way to answer this question?

Laxus slowly sank into the water until he was on his knees, his head falling just below Cana's. He took her hands in his and looked her in the eye.

"I want us to stay together. We have phones and computers and social media. I want us to at least try to make this work."

The relief that flooded over Cana's face made Laxus's chest swell with happiness. She flung her arms around his shoulders and pulled him in for a hug, which he gladly returned.

They held hands the rest of the day. In front of their group members or leaders and while shopping too. They never let go.

As they bought fireworks, rollerblades, skateboards, skates, and a weapon, they never let go of each other's hand.
