It was Thursday, November 28th, 2019. and Harry and Ginny were delighted. Delighted that James, Albus, and Lily were home for Thanksgiving.
It had been the first semester that all three of the kids had been away at Hogwarts at the same time and Harry and Ginny had really been looking forward to having the kids home for Thanksgiving.
Ginny had prepared a delicious Thanksgiving meal of turkey, stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and Budweiser and Harry had just finished setting out places for five with plates, cups, forks, and knifes when Ginny brought the food.
"That's smells good, " said Harry glowingly, smiling at his wife.
Smiling back at Harry but not talking, Ginny served Harry, James, Albus, Lily, and herself two slices of turkey each and one piece of pumpkin pie to be eaten last for dessert each while giving everyone one fifths each of the stuffing, corn, and mashed potatoes. She then filled everyone's glasses with Budweiser.
"Thanksgiving is a time for food and family, " smiled Harry, "But it's also a time for giving thanks. What is everyone here most thankful for this year?"
"I'm thankful to have started at Hogwarts and to have had a successful first semester so far, " beamed Lily, "I had been looking forward to going to Hogwarts for years. I'm so thankful to have actually made it and to have had a successful semester. "
After swallowing a juicy bite of turkey, James piped up, "I'm most thankful to have Lily at Hogwarts with me now. You know that Lily and I are close."
Lily smiled at James as she took a sip of Budweiser.
"To be able to share the experience of being at Hogwarts with Lily this year has been a truly special thing, " said James sincerely.
"I'm most thankful, " said Harry gratefully, "To have all four of you alive and healthy. Nothing in life is more important than family and I'm very thankful to have a happy and healthy wife and three beautiful happy and healthy children."
James, Albus, Lily, and Ginny all smiled at Harry.
"The thing I'm most thankful for, " said Ginny clearly, "Is the opportunity to still have James, Albus, and Lily still be in our lives even as they are away at Hogwarts. I spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at Hogwarts when I was a student. I'm grateful that Hogwarts now closes for Thanksgiving and Christmas and parents are able to see their children during these important family holidays."
After finishing a forkful of corn, Albus added, "I'm most thankful for the contusing acceptance I've gotten from my family despite being sortied into Slytherin. Being the only Slytherin in a Gryffindor would cause plenty of kids in other circumstances to get disowned. I'm thankful for how proud mom and dad are of me despite my Slytherin status and I'm thankful that James and Lily have been supportive of me despite my Slytherin status."
"That was a good discussion, " said Harry, 'But what's everyone's favorite part of thanksgiving dinner?"
"The turkey hands down, " answered James a nanosecond later.
"The corn, " replied Albus.
"The stuffing, " piped up Harry himself.
"The mashed potatoes, " smiled Ginny.
"The Budweiser, " finished Lily.
"That's awesome how we all have a different favorite, " said Harry cheerfully.
And with that, the Potters went on with finishing their excellent Thanksgiving feast.
