Hello all! Here's Chapter 10, and just to warn you, this is the longest chapter I have ever written! I thought about breaking it into 2 parts, but then I thought, "Nah." :)
I honestly wasn't even sure at the beginning of writing this if I wanted to ever even post it, but I'm so happy I did. It has just been so thrilling to see that people actually enjoyed reading this fic, and I couldn't be happier! Thank you all so much! And once again I say I own nothing but my own crazy brain and the ideas that spew out of it randomly! Thank you all again, and I hope you enjoy!- Liona
EJ's POV
It had been a few months now since Michel, Nelly and I were attacked by Vernon and two others. Nelly had taken to being a vampire like a fish to water, and loved everything about it. Michel, Wesley and Leo were able to buy the cabin we were staying at and a large amount of property that went with it, so we wouldn't have to worry about Nelly needing to hunt. Michel had mine and Nelly's flat completely packed up, and except for a few small things and our clothes, everything was safe in a storage unit. Wes and Leo said they would take care of Michel's place for him since they stay there while visiting London anyway.
Nelly had done an unbelievable job controlling her thirst, very similar to my Mother's amazing self control she has always processed since becoming a vampire. Unfortunately, it was still too risky for Nelly to be around humans, so the 3 of us had to say goodbye to our lives in London. Nelly had agreed to keep in contact with her friends and family just threw phone calls or text for a while, but she understood that she wouldn't be able to see them again. It broke both mine and Michel's hearts seeing Nelly miss her loved ones, but she said that as long as she had the 2 of us she could get threw it.
I had to call Cat and Evan and explain that I had urgent family matters, and I wouldn't be able to come back to London. They were both very understanding, and said they still wanted to keep in contact with me about their soon to be daughter, Stephanie. I made sure to tell them how grateful I was for everything they did for me, from my job, to introducing me to Nelly, to just being wonderful friends. The time I got to spend with them is something I will always treasure.
I was honestly a bit grateful that I didn't have too much free time to spend in my own thoughts.
Shortly after Nelly's transformation she realized that she had a very interesting gift. Nelly's talent for being able to read people in her human life had remained and blossomed now that she was a vampire. She described being able to look at someone's actual soul, and from what she could see of Michel, Leo, Wesley, and myself we looked like we had an almost white glow that surrounded us. Leo and Wesley wanted to test her new powers out, and the 4 of us took Nelly near a populated campsite. Nelly said when she looked at people it was either dark or light or somewhere in between that was almost engulfing them. Wes and Leo were able to give Nelly guidance on her new power, and they were even able to give advice on my shield. I worked with Leo for almost 2 weeks, and I was eventually able to move my shield over another person, but I'm still working on being able to lower it. Leo said with more practice he thinks I'll be able to accomplish a lot with my gift.
Leo and Wes stayed with us for the first month after Nelly was turned, but had to be getting back to their mates, Lynn and Sylvia, who lived with them in Winchester. Lynn and Sylvia were both vampires, and Lynn used to be Victor's mate, but after he died Lynn and Leo got very close. Sylvia had actually been turned by Wesley the week I arrived in London, and she also had an incredible amount of self control. Wesley had a theory that vampire's who are involved in some way with hybrids while human are gifted with easy control of their thirst, almost like a form of adaption like in the animal kingdom. I suppose their could be truth to that given the evidence I've seen.
Once Wesley and Leo had left, Michel and I had a few discussions regarding my family and returning to the states. We were both fully honest with each other and with Nelly about pretty much everything. Nelly was like how we would have expected her to be, kind, caring, and infuriated with the two of us for the way we considered ourselves at fault for things we now know we weren't. She said she would have slapped us if she wasn't afraid of snapping our necks.
Nelly and Michel both gave me the courage to finally decide to return home, but they had their own conditions. Both Nelly and Michel wanted me to go home, but they wanted to make sure they were both with me. They also felt that it would be better for all 3 of us to get out of England, to make it much easier for Nelly to separate herself from her life in London. We agreed to give Nelly a while longer with just Michel and me, and then we would leave for America. We decided to leave early September 10th, today.
Michel and I had decided to take a walk outside and sit by the lake before sunrise. We had to leave in about half an hour, but he and I had sort of made this our spot, and we wanted to spend a little more time here. I didn't sleep at all last night, and I didn't think I would be able to until I finally got to see my family.
I leaned back into Michel's chest as he held me tight in his lap. We both stayed completely silent as we listened to Arms by Christina Perri on repeat. Michel and I had talked so many times about what I wanted to say, and what I expected to happen when I finally just showed up back home. He suggested I call first, but I don't want to just apologize over the phone like a coward, I want to see all of them, and tell them about everything in person.
"Michel, can I ask you something?" I turned my head slightly to look up at him.
"You can ask me anything, Fawn." He kissed my quickly and waited to here my question.
"Do you think I've changed a lot this last year?"
"Yes, and no."
"What does that mean?" I sat up and turned myself to where I was in his lap facing him.
"I think you've grown up and matured a hell of a lot compared to that little brat I met the day you arrived."
I punched his shoulder for the brat comment.
"Let me finish!" He laughed and put his hands up defensively, "But at the same time, you've still managed to keep that loving and beautiful innocence that I just adore about you."
I bit my lower lip, and wrapped my arms around his neck, "Thank you, Love." I pulled him into a deep kiss, and in a moment I was on my back feeling his hands roam down my body.
"Time to go!"
We both groaned and looked over at our sweet golden eyed best friend.
"Coming, Nel!" Michel quickly stood and helped me to my feet. I grabbed my phone and turned off the song I had picked out for Michel.
"No you're not, save that for the Mile High Club you pervs!" Nelly laughed when we both started glaring at her, but we soon started laughing too.
Michel grabbed my hand, and caressed my face.
"Are you ready, Fawn?"
I clenched my teeth and took a deep breath, "Yes."
Renesmee's POV
I had woken up much earlier, but I was avoiding going down stairs for as long as I could. Today had once been one of my most favorite days of the year, but not this year. No, this is the year I didn't get up the moment the sun rose, and rush down stairs to see what my family was planning. The reason for my sheer lack of interest for this day was because for the first time ever since being born, I wouldn't be waking up my twin brother and pulling him down stairs to celebrate our birthday together.
It had been almost a year since EJ had left, only leaving a note that made everyone feel nothing but guilt, and no indication at all to what his plans were. He hadn't contacted us once the entire time, not for the holidays, anniversaries, nothing. Everyone tried so hard to keep smiling like everything was ok, but there was no hiding how much we all missed him, especially my parents.
Mom and Dad did their absolute best to hide how sad they were, but Dad couldn't even play the piano without thinking of, EJ.
We all went about our usual lives the best we could, school was probably the hardest though. Carlisle and Esme used the lie that we were all their foster children, and told the school that EJ had left to live with biological relatives. It was a lie that could easily be true, and one nobody had a problem with believing. The first few weeks we were all constantly being asked about EJ, how he was? If he was coming back soon? If we still talked with him? The lies that we were all constantly having to say started to feel like venom on my lips every time I had to utter words like, 'Yes, he's fine,' when all I wanted was to scream at everyone that none of us had a clue to the answers for their incessant questions.
Eventually our classmates and teacher all finally quite asking questions. People didn't wonder how EJ was doing or ask about when he was coming back, and the thought that life was moving foreword without him, made me feel like a constant knife was going threw my heart every time I thought about it.
EJ had always been the most honest, shy, loving person in the world, and we all knew he would have never done something so out of character if he didn't have a reason. We all just kept clinging to the hope that EJ meant what he said in his letter, and he would be returning home to us. The moment I see him I'm going to give him the tightest hug possible, and tell him I love him. I'm going to make sure he knows that I'm sorry for not noticing how negative he had felt, and that I will be there for him from then on.
I finally got up the courage to get out of bed, shower, and get dressed in one of my favorite outfits. I had been trying to dress more like a young women and less like a teenager. I wore some tight fitting black skinny jeans and a bright red sweater that showed off my neckline. I always wear my locket Mom had given me, and today was no exception. I threw my long bronze colored curls into a loose ponytail, and after a small bit of makeup I felt ready.
I looked at the picture of me and EJ that I had hanging up next to my door, and said a silent 'love you' before I walked downstairs.
I turned the corner and saw my wonderful family gathered in the living room going threw bags of party decorations Alice no doubt had picked out, but I was seriously hoping they had gotten the message that I was completely uninterested in today.
"I'm telling you she likes red a lot more now." Rosalie was trying to argue with Alice.
"It's not a Valentines Day party, Rose. Plus, she's always loved purple." Alice argued.
"Guys she's going to love what ever color. She's not that picky." My mom tried to defend me, but she should know better than to get between Rose and Alice about party stuff.
"How about you just ask her?" My Dad smiled up the stairs at where I was poking my head out at. "You know for a young women you still have a lot of childish habits." My Dad joked.
I just rolled my eyes, and ran at vampire speed to hug both my parents. I knew today was going to be just as hard for them as it was for me, and I really didn't want to make them think I didn't appreciate them, but I had to stand firm.
I looked up into my Dad's gold eyes, I knew he could hear my thoughts and my feelings towards celebrating today. He gave me a small smile and nodded his head.
"Hey everyone, maybe we should do something a bit smaller and skip the decorations?"
I smiled and hugged my Dad tightly, making sure he heard me say, 'thank you' in my thoughts.
"Nessie, we have so many things planned, and we always go shopping." Alice tried to argue, but stopped when she saw the looks on mine and Dad's faces. "Or..I guess small would work too."
"Thank you Aunt Alice, but if you want I'm still good for a 'small' shopping trip, ok?" Alice perked up, and everyone quickly got the message and stopped with the decorations.
"So, what would you like to do right now, Sweetheart?" My amazing Mother asked while tucking a strand of hair back behind my ear.
I bit my lip, "Honestly, I was kinda hoping to have some time alone just for right now. I was thinking of going hunting real fast, and then we can do something when I get back."
They all seemed ok with my answer, and after a quick hug with everyone, I made my way to my favorite hunting spot. Jacob normally goes with me, but he had left yesterday to meet with Leah. Leah and Jacob were the last of their original pack that was still phasing, and now that Seth had his own mate, Leah had been spending some of her spare time with me and Jacob. I had always liked Leah, but she and I had gotten really close over the last few years, and I was excited that she was coming to visit.
I hunted fairly quickly, and used the rest of my time to just walk at human pace threw nature. I wanted to go ahead and get any emotions that might spill over out of the way now, so I closed my eyes as I walked, and allowed myself to think happy memories of my brother.
I thought of him reading, drawing, playin piano, and running threw the trees as we played tag.
"Ness?"
I could hear his voice in my thoughts as clear as a bell.
"Renesmee?"
I stopped and my eyes widened. I looked around the forest like my life depended on it. My brother's voice was so clear, and I swear I could smell his sweet scent.
"Am I going crazy?" I asked myself allowed, but I didn't expect an answer.
"No more than usual."
I turned around and almost fell to the ground as I saw my brother's green eyes and his smile that perfectly matched our father's.
"EJ?" I choked out. Is it really him? I felt my eyes already starting to water.
"Yeah." He sounded like he was about to start crying too. I wasted no time and ran at vampire speed to tackle him to the ground. I wrapped my arms around him and held him like he could disappear again.
"Ness, I can't breathe!" He laughed and hugged me back.
"I don't care!" If this is another one of my dreams I don't ever want to wake up. For the first time in a year I finally feel complete again, and I don't want this feeling to go away!
EJ and I held each other for several minutes before I finally decided to let him breathe again. We both stood back up, but we kept our hands intertwined, and I could not stop smiling.
"EJ, you stupid brother I missed you so much." I wiped away several tears on my sweater sleeve, but quickly decided to just let them fall.
"I missed you too. Ness, I can't tell you just how sorry I am for what I did." He tightened his hold on my hands. We both had tears falling down our cheeks like we were getting rained on.
"It's ok. I'm not mad, no one is. Honestly, we were all angry with ourselves for not being able to see that you needed us to be there for you. We made you feel like we were fine without you. Dad, Mom, everyone, we all just missed you so very much, and I can't tell you how happy I am to see you. I love you so much, and I promise I'm always going to be here for you."
"Ness, I love you so much too, and I've got so many things I need to tell you and everyone." EJ tried to step back, but I wouldn't let him.
"Whatever it is it doesn't matter now."
"It really does. They're the reason why I don't regret leaving, just how I went about it."
"They?" I stared at my brother for a second then noticed to figures standing behind him.
The first was a short girl with short brown hair that reminded me of Alice, and she had the same golden eyes as all vegetarian vampires.
The other was a tall boy with short blond hair and sky blue eyes, and I knew instantly from his scent that he was like my brother and me.
"EJ, who are they?" I felt a rush of excitement but also an instinct to want to make sure my brother was safe.
"Renesmee, this is Nelly Webb, she's my best friend and has been my roommate since I've been in London." EJ introduced the vampire, I saw her excited expression and instantly felt a connection with her. "And this is Michel Reeves, he's hybrid from London also."
Michel stepped foreword and wrapped his arm around EJ's shoulder.
I gave the blond a curious look, but then noticed the loving expression EJ had while looking up at Michel, and vise versa.
"EJ?" I wasn't exactly sure how to ask this.
"Ness, Michel is my boyfriend. I'm gay." EJ smiled so shyly, and had the sweetest blush across his face I've ever seen.
I felt my mouth fall open as I kept rethinking the word 'boyfriend.' Oh my God. My brother is gay, and has a boyfriend. I felt my mouth turn into a painfully huge smile, and I felt a loud squeal begin to escape my throat until, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH-"
"Ness!" EJ put his hand over my mouth, but he was trying his hardest not to start laughing.
I smacked his hand away and tackled Michel to the ground, "I am so freaking glad to meet you!"
"It's lovely to meet you also, Renessmee." He said very politely.
I pulled him to his feet, "It's Nessie, Michel. You're basically my brother now, so you have to call me, Nessie." I was jumping up and down with excitement.
Michel laughed at my giddiness, "Alright then, Nessie. I must say you're one of the most beautiful young women I've ever met."
"Hey, what am I then?" Nelly lightly smacked Michel's arm.
"Ouch! You're beautiful too, Nel!"
"That's more like it." Nelly laughed and hit Michel again.
"Enough you two." EJ gave Michel a quick kiss and I had to cover my mouth to avoid excitedly squealing again.
"Renesmee? Are you o...k?" I turned around to see my father standing a few yards away from us, but I knew his attention had changed from me my brother. "EJ?"
"Hi Dad."
Edward's POV
My family and I were trying to quickly clean up the decorations the moment Ness was out of view. I should have known she wouldn't have wanted all of this, Alice should have too, but I guess we were attempting a distraction that was basically impossible.
I could hear my family member's trying to keep their minds busy with thoughts of shopping, sports, or just reciting the alphabet backwards. I knew they were all trying their best not to think about my son, our son.
We had all been handling EJ's disappearance as best we could, but still going threw each day wondering where my child was and if he was ok drove me near insanity more often than I'd like to admit. I just wish I could see him just once and tell him I love him.
My mind trailed off to thoughts of EJ, then I heard a sound no parent wants to hear, I heard my daughter's scream from a few miles from our house.
Everyone looked at each other, and in half a second we were all out the door. I made quick use of the fact that I was the fastest in my family, and hurried to where my daughter was. I searched for her thoughts. I was thankful she seemed ok, but she was thinking of her brother, just the thought of his green eyes made my chest hurt. I got to my daughter within seconds.
"Renesmee? Are you o-" I felt shock wash over me as I looked from my daughter and saw my son, "k?" I finished my sentence, and tried to keep myself together. "EJ?"
"Hi Dad." His voice was like music to my ears, and I quickly ran up and pulled him into my arms. I held him just tight enough not to hurt him, but so he knew how much I've missed him. I ran a hand threw his light brown hair and noticed it had grown out some.
"I missed you so much, Edward Jacob." I pulled back and held his face in my hands. I wiped away a few of his tears with my thumbs and we both smiled.
"I missed you too Dad, I'm so sorry I-"
"You have nothing to be sorry for." I interrupted. "I'm just so glad to see you." I pulled him into another hug, and that's when I noticed the two new comers standing beside my boy, a newborn vampire and a vampire hybrid like my children.
"EJ, who are they?" I could tell that both the stranger's minds were shielded, and I looked at my son, "EJ, you can move your shield now?"
"Yeah, it's still sort of new though." EJ walked over and smiled proudly at the hybrid and newborn. I may not be able to read their thoughts, but I could tell from how the two looked at EJ they cared about him very much.
"Dad, let me." Renesmee touched her hand to my cheek, and I saw images of what had happened before I arrived.
My mouth dropped as I heard EJ use the word 'boyfriend', and I quickly looked at the blond hybrid who was currently holding my son's hand.
"Oh." Was all I could think to say at first. "I guess your Mother, Carlisle and Esme won the bet."
"Wait, what?" EJ gave me a confused look.
"We may have all had bets on who we thought you might be attracted to." Renesmee admitted.
"Your sister and I had bet on you being bi, so we technically lost I guess." I admitted. The shocked look on my son's face was priceless..
"You all gambled on my sexuality?" EJ asked, well more so shouted.
The girl next to him, Nelly, started laughing to the point I thought she would fall over.
"Edward! Is everything ok?" I heard my wife yell, I turned my attention and saw the rest of our family run in, and they all stopped in their tracks when they saw, EJ.
"Oh my sweet baby!" Bella didn't waste a second, and ran up to EJ to hug him.
"Thank goodness you're ok." Esme quickly held both EJ and Bella in a tight embrace.
Everyone took turns hugging EJ, and I knew if it were possible we'd all be crying.
"Where in the world have you been?" Carlisle asked while taking his turn hugging his grandson almost breathless.
"With us mostly." Michel spoke up for the first time.
I heard my family's thoughts, and most of them were directed in either protecting EJ and Renesmee from the strangers or wondering why they were here?
"And you two would be?" Alice asked as she Rosalie, Emmett, and Jasper all got in between the rest of us and, Nelly and Michel.
"To put it short, this is, Michel and Nelly. Also, Mom, Carlisle and Esme won the bet we all had on, EJ." Renesmee quickly stated.
Everyone spent a few seconds looking back and forth between Michel and EJ, until EJ stepped past his aunts and uncles and allowed Michel to wrap and arm across his shoulders. Everyone quickly got extremely excited.
"Fuck, I can't believe I was wrong!" Emmett laughed. He went up to Michel and eyed him up and down while smirking evilly.
"Emmett, don't scare the poor boy." Bella walked up to Michel and smiled sweetly at him, "It's very nice to meet you, Michel."
"You as well, Mrs. Cullen." Michel was extremely polite, which was already winning over everyone here.
"You can call me, Bella, but I appreciate your manners."
"So, if EJ is with Michel, why is there a newborn here. I apologize if that sounded rude." Jasper said in his usual serious tone while looking at Nelly.
Nelly walked in between EJ and Michel, and intertwined her arms with theirs, "I'm their babysitter." Nelly laughed as both EJ and Michel glared at her. "What? You two would be lost with out me."
"Oh really?" The two boys said in unison. Nelly let them both go and ran behind, Renesmee.
"I'm so glad I finally have help with these two trouble makers!" Nelly laughed while hugging Ness, which my daughter happily excepted.
"Maybe you should be a bit careful?" Jasper stepped closer to, Nelly. He was worried about her being a newborn, and couldn't stop thinking about the other newborn vampires he's known.
"You don't have to worry, Jasper. Nelly is like Mom when she was a newborn, she even road in a plane with us to get here." EJ explained.
"10 hours of sweet silence while she held her breath." Michel smirked at Nelly, and she stuck her tongue out at him.
"My apologies again. We're still just a bit protective of, Renesmee and EJ." I could tell from Jasper's thoughts that he was hoping he hadn't offended, Nelly.
"No worries, I totally get it. The boys explained the whole crazy newborn thing after I was turned a few months ago." Nelly's words helped Jasper to feel a little calmer.
I suddenly heard two familiar minds, "Jacob, Leah, we're all over here!" I called out to the two werewolves.
The two quickly appeared in human form, and Jacob immediately ran up to EJ and hugged him, "Where the hell have you been?" Jacob put EJ down, and Michel pulled EJ into his arms and growled at Jacob.
"Michel, this is my sister's boyfriend, Jacob." EJ said in a stern tone.
Michel instantly went out of protective mode, and stared nervously at a stunned Jacob, "Sorry mate, kind of a habit." Michel loosened his hold on EJ, and my son gave him a quick kiss that made my sisters and daughter almost jump a mile in the air.
"I guess I won the bet." Leah said as she walked closer to the group.
"You were in on it too?" EJ sounded annoyed but at the same time he was trying not to laugh.
"Oh, the pack had their own poll." Jacob admitted.
EJ smacked his forehead and hid his embarrassed face in Michel's shoulder.
"How about we all head back to the house?" Carlisle suggested.
We all ran back to the house, but everyone kept their eyes on, Michel and EJ.
Once we got to the house I saw EJ's face turn from excited to guilty at seeing his home again. Michel and Nelly noticed too and both held his hands.
Once we got inside we all gathered in the living room. EJ's focus turned to the wall that held the fireplace and several of his paintings.
"So, I take it you guys liked these then?" EJ seemed to turn back into his old shy self for a moment, and smiled at his own artwork.
Esme came up to EJ and hugged him tightly for the third time, "We put them up the day after you left. You are officially my favorite artist now."
"Thanks, Grandma." EJ returned his grandmother's hug, and I could tell he was trying not to cry.
Everyone crowded around the living room with all focus on EJ, Michel, and Nelly. The 3 gave a summery of everything that had gone on with EJ and them since EJ had arrived in London. We are all so proud of how well EJ had done with the life he had created for himself. We all stayed quiet as EJ explained the whole ordeal with Vernon, and how he and Nelly almost died. If the bastard wasn't dead already I think everyone here would have gladly hunted him down.
Michel explained the reason for Vernon's attack, and how he had to turn Nelly into a vampire.
Jasper and I were personally disgusted at how Michel described his father being known as a 'breeder' who only had his sons and daughter in order to fight in territorial wars like the ones Jasper had been apart of. It especially angered me at how their so called 'father' allowed for his two elder sons, Victor and John to die along side their little sister, Sophia.
"That's horrible." Bella took the words out of everyone's mouths.
"Well, Richard and Vernon are both dead now, and its all in the past." Michel stared at the ground as he spoke. EJ held his mate's hand and rested his head on the blond's shoulder.
"Good." Renesmee had let out a growl or two while Michel was speaking.
Michel smirked at Nessie.
EJ leaned up and kissed Michel for a second.
"You two are so sweet!" Nessie's angry tone was quickly replaced with pure excitement.
"You have no idea! They're worse than a couple of rabbits!" Nelly joked. "At first I thought my vampire power involved constantly walking in on them."
"Knocking is a thing you know, Nel." EJ glared at his friend.
"So are locks, EJ." Nelly countered.
EJ crossed his arms, his face was completely red. Michel held him close while laughing a little at his boyfriend's expression.
"So, you have a power too, Nelly?" Ness asked excitedly.
"Yup, its a little trick I've been able to do since I was a kid, but its like way more accurate now." Nelly explained. She repositioned herself to where she and Nessie were face to face. "You see, I've always been able to tell a good person from a bad person, sort of like reading their soul, or aura, or whatever you wanna call it, but I've never been wrong."
"So what do I look like?" Ness asked excitedly.
"Everyone here is definitely on the good soul list, Carlisle especially. I don't think even the Pope's soul looks as good as yours."
"Well, I appreciate the compliment." Carlisle had a large smile from Nelly's remark.
I admit the idea of a vampire having a soul is something Bella and I have had multiple conversations about over the years, not all very good ones. However, the idea that not only do we all truly have souls, but pure ones at that, is definitely a new thought I look forward to exploring.
"That's so cool!" Ness shouted excitedly.
Everyone continued talking, mostly about what we've all been doing the last year, and how happy we were to have EJ back.
"Hey, so since our favorite boy is back, does that mean we can do some actual celebrating?" Alice asked Ness in a hopeful tone.
Ness turned to EJ, "What do you say, Baby Brother?"
EJ looked at everyone's excited and hopeful expressions, "Yes, I would love that."
Everyone quickly stood and we all started getting the party supplies back out.
During the hype I noticed EJ was with Michel near the door.
"I'm going to get some air, I'll be right back." EJ gave Michel a quick kiss and walked out onto the back porch. I decided to follow him. He closed the door after walking out, but I opened it back up a second later, and stepped out into the cold air.
"So, Michel seems very nice." I said after shutting the door back.
"Yeah, he's really amazing."
A harsh silence quickly fell between us. EJ leaned against the glass frame, and I stood beside him.
EJ suddenly seemed to have gone back to his usual quiet self. I promised myself when EJ came back I would never again just right off his quiet demeaner as him just wanting or needing space. I'm not going to invade his privacy, but I want to make sure he knows I'm here for him.
I took a chance and hesitantly ran a hand threw EJ's hair, something I had missed so very much. EJ tensed a little, and before I could react EJ had his arms around me, hugging me tightly. I quickly hugged him back, and tried to make since of what could be wrong.
"Dad, I really am so sorry for how I left, if I could do it differently I would. I know Ness said none of you were upset with me, but that doesn't mean I'm not angry at myself for making you all worry." EJ kept his head down on my shoulder.
I pulled EJ away, but held his face in my hands so he had to look me in the eyes when I spoke, "Edward Jacob Cullen, I want you to stop thinking like that right now."
"Dad, I-"
"EJ, the last thing your family wants is for you to be upset for doing something that ultimately was the right decision for you. Everyone here is so proud and happy for you, and we love you more than you will ever know." I pulled him into another hug.
"Dad, can I show you something? Well, I want to at least try to."
"Sure, Son." EJ didn't leave my embrace, but I started to slowly see images from a mind I've never even had a glimpse of before. EJ was able to lower his shield, and for the first time ever I knew what my son was thinking.
EJ showed me the first time he met, Nelly, and then when he first met, Michel. He had so many happy memories of looking out at the stars with Nelly, and working with Evan and Cat. I couldn't help but smile when EJ thought about being in love for the first time after Michel had confessed his feelings. EJ's favorite memory was of him and Michel taking turns dancing with Nelly at a wedding. The 3 of them truly are happy together. EJ's hold on me tightened as I saw his memories of feeling alone while he was at home. He had convinced himself that we were all happier when he wasn't around, and he also showed me how he felt about leaving. He quickly turned to memories of talking with Michel near a lake. He felt so guilty at the thought of hurting us, and he wanted so badly to come home and tell us he was sorry. I need to remember to thank Michel for being there to help EJ threw all these emotions.
I could tell EJ's shield was starting to go back up, but just before, I saw a quick memory of mine and Bella's meadow. The memory was of the last time Bella and I had brought EJ and Ness there before we all left Forks.
"That last one I know doesn't relate to this year, but it's gotten me threw a lot of bad days." EJ's tone reminded me a lot of when he was little.
"Me too, and your mother and sister also." It truly was a special moment in time for all 4 of us, just being able to be together in a place that meant so much to Bella and me.
"Dad, I don't regret leaving, but I do wish I could have been more honest with you and everyone else about how I felt."
"EJ, trust me if anyone understands regret it's me. My biggest regret thus far is being one of the reasons you felt you had to leave-"
"Dad, I-"
"EJ, let me finish." He closed his mouth and looked at me with a slight nervousness in his eyes. "Your Mother and I, everyone here, we all played a part in trying to decide what was best for you, because that's what we've all done throughout yours and Ness' lives. It wasn't until after you were gone did we realize that we were unintentionally putting a gap between our family and you. There should have been a lot more communication from all of us, and not just assumptions. I want you to know that ultimately we are all very happy that you decided to go out on your own, because I've never seen you more happy than when you're with Michel and Nelly."
He seemed to perk back up, and he had a very shy smile that reminded me of his mother.
"I want you to know I couldn't possibly be more proud of you, and I'm speaking for our whole family as well. You are such an amazing young man, and I am so proud to be your father."
EJ pulled me back into another tight hug, and I quickly returned this one as well.
"I am the luckiest person alive to have you as my Dad. Thank you so much for everything you just said, and honestly I want to thank you for everything you've ever done for me throughout my whole life. I love you and our family so very much, and I'm really happy to be home."
Hearing my son's words and also seeing memories of his life in London gave me a sudden realization, "EJ, I want you to know that if you meant for this to be a visit, and your planning on returning to London, we will all understand. Your entire family loves you, and we are going to support whatever decisions you make." I don't want to see my son leave again, but I would never forgive myself for getting in the way of his happiness.
EJ pulled away and dried his eyes, "Actually, I forgot to show you one other memory. Michel and Nelly already said they wanted to move to the states, here to be more specific. That is, if you don't think everyone will mind having a bunch of queer teenagers around?"
"Of course not." I smiled excitedly at the thought of having EJ back and also having Michel and Nelly join our family. Wait, "Nelly's a lesbian? How did I miss that?"
"Yeah, Dad." EJ and I looked into the house at everyone while they put up decorations, but I noticed Nelly was standing especially close to Leah, and Leah didn't seem to mind at all.
"That explains why she's been starring at Leah since we've been home." I read Leah's mind, she was currently discussing movies with Nelly. The two girls seemed to have a lot in common, and I think Leah might actually be.. blushing?
"Those two are so gay." EJ laughed.
"Edward Jacob!"
"What? I'm gay too, Dad. I'm allowed to make comments like that." EJ continued laughing, and I felt so unbelievably happy seeing him smile like that.
I quickly heard some very loud and excited thoughts coming from Alice's mind.
"Oh, just to warn you, Alice has been looking for an excuse to make us celebrate Pride month for years, so good luck." I warned.
"Oh God." EJ groaned, but I could tell by the look on his face he was a little excited too.
The porch door quickly opened and Michel walked out, "I apologize, I hope I'm not interrupting anything." Michel walked over to EJ and held him closely, EJ rested his head on Michel's shoulder. I am so happy that both my children have found their loves, and I'm especially grateful that they didn't have to wait as long as I did to feel such happiness.
"Michel, I want to thank you."
They both looked at me.
"For what, Sir?" Michel asked nervously.
"First off, it's Edward not Sir, and I want to thank you for not only looking out for my son, but making him happier than I've ever seen him."
EJ smiled brightly at my words, and Michel tightened his hold on my son.
"Thank you Sir- Edward. Making EJ happy is honestly the greatest thing I've ever done."
"Well keep it up. Don't tell Jake and Ness, but you're already in the lead for my favorite son in law."
"T-thank you Sir, I mean Edward, I mean- wait I was right the last time!" Michel stuttered nervously.
I put my hand on the poor boy's shoulder, "Your fine, Michel. Just relax." Yeah, definitely off to a better start than Jacob ever was.
Michel just nodded his head yes, and continued holding EJ. I decided to give the two some privacy, "I will see you both inside." I quickly kissed my son's forehead and then walked back inside to help finish setting up.
EJ's POV
I can't believe it.
"So, your family seems just as remarkable as you made them sound." Michel kissed the top of my head, and I could here the excitement in his tone.
"They really are." My parents, sister, Jacob, grandparents, aunts, and uncles had all worried about me like I had feared, but they were also happy for me, and I honestly think I might cry, again! But this time just from complete joy. "You know all the stress and and worrying I had done seems a bit foolish now."
I leaned back into Michel's embrace, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to stop smiling.
"I wouldn't say foolish, but maybe unnecessary." Michel turned me around, and pulled me close to him.
"Yeah, ok."
"So, did you clear it with your Dad on us staying?"
"Yup, and apparently Alice is already planning a Pride party for this summer."
"Oh fun, especially if it ends like the last Pride party we went to." Michel pulled the collar of my t-shirt down, and nipped my neck.
I blushed thinking about the night Michel and I not only confessed our love in words, but also physically for the first time, I'm also really happy I was able to keep those images out of my head while my shield was down.
"You know you don't have to wait for a party to fuck me right?" I tilted my head a little, and tangled my hand in his blond hair.
Michel quickly stopped biting, and suddenly spun me in a circle and then pulled me back to him, "Is that an offer, Mr. Cullen?"
"Why yes it is, Mr. Reeves." I wrapped my arms around my boyfriend's neck, and he leaned down to kiss me deeply.
"Hey, Boy Toys! Nessie says its time for cake!" Nelly stood in the opened door, she smiled both sweetly and wickedly in a way only Nelly could do, "So EJ, focus on blowing out the candles first, and then you can blow, Michel." Nelly winked at me and then walked back inside.
Michel laughed and I blushed a dark red.
I bit my lip and stared up at him, "I'll show you my, I mean 'our' bedroom later." I whispered to my now blushing boyfriend before he and I walked back inside.
I made my way over to my almost jumping sister. Ness and I stood at the dinning table with everyone looking at us. Esme walked over to us with a lighter and lit some candles on a huge 3 tier purple cake.
"You know what your gonna wish for?" I asked my beautiful sister.
"I already got my wish." She quickly hugged me and I almost lifted her off the ground when I hugged her back.
I looked at everyone in the room and realized I had gotten what I wished for too. I had my Family, Michel and Nelly, and we were all together.
Everyone started to count backwards, knowing Ness and I despised the idea of everyone singing to us.
Ness and I both looked to each other, and then at our loved ones. We held our breaths for a few seconds. Ness and I had both gotten what we wished for, and had been blessed with a family, mates, and friends who we would do anything for.
Everyone counted down "3,2,1 Happy Birthday, Nessie and EJ!"
Ness and I blew out the candles, and instead of a wish I just sent out a silent 'thank you' for the incredible life I was born into.
THE END.
I want to give a big thank you to everyone who continued reading, followed, and favorited, and I especially want to thank, ThegoodErudite2765 and DxGRAYxMAN, your comments were always so sweet and encouraging, and I appreciated every one!
I also want to say I was just kidding about this being THE END ;) I actually have quite a few more ideas that I wasn't able to squeeze into this fic, so I'm going to be trying my hand at 'One Shots,' and see how that goes.
