Chapter 29
The moment Usagi got home, she immediately transported herself and Tsuki to the Moon Palace Great Hall. "Grandmother are you here?!" She yelled into the empty room, well basically an empty Palace. Other than herself and Selene there's no one else residing at the her Grandmother placed a clean spell on the Palace, eliminating the chore to keep the place dust free.
A light glowed and soon Selene appeared, "I am now." She smiled, "What's the matter?"
Usagi sighed and placed her hands into the back pockets of her pants, "I made my decision regarding the Inners."
Selene blinked in surprise, "I'm shocked, I assumed you would wait until your summer vacation was over to make your decision. Did something happen to influence your decision?" She asked moving her to sit on one of the white couches nearby and her Grandmother sat next to her.
Usagi nodding answering her question, "So I went out today and hung out with the Outers and suddenly our nice little picnic turned into a monster battle and that showed a list of problems. First of all the Inners were late to the battle, they recklessly entered the battle to where the Outers could've hit them if I didn't place a shield. We were arguing in front of the monster, Rei accused me of quitting the team just because I couldn't transform and was wearing a different costume and using a different name."
"I gave the monster a choice of surrendering and or dying, then Rei said that, that was another reason why I should be Queen and of course only the Outers came to my defense while everyone else just stood there. Now I do have to admit that I did lose my cool because with Rei and the monster was insulting me so I kinda chopped the monster head off."
Selene furrowed her eyebrows, wondering how a person can KINDA chop a monster head but she wasn't going to interrupt her granddaughter's current rant.
"I called for a meeting to see if maybe I would get an apology or an explanation but instead it became about me, about how basically I'm incompetent and not acting properly, how stupid I am for separating with Mamoru because I'm ruining the future, how Rei wants me give up my titles but no that was too rash instead Luna wanted to have me step down as Sailor Moon. I didn't answer them because honestly I was too upset."
Selene shocked her head and clenched her fist in rage, "I can't believe they would continue to treat you that way, especially Luna and Artemis. Even though I never liked that your mother chose them as advisors, I have nothing against the people of Mau but there were better choices."
Usagi leaned into Selene's shoulder, "At the time, I'm sure Queen Serenity thought she made the good choice. After all, they were all once so loyal to me but except for Luna and Artemis, the others let their fear of the future get to them."
"What do you mean?" Selene wondered
"Yesterday I kinda bumped into Ami, Minako and Makoto while they were out having lunch and we ended up at Makoto's place where they explained that the reason they treated me that was because it seemed during one of Rei's rants she made some points that made them anxious about the future. They had gotten scared about the fact that their personal lives will soon be non-existent and instead of talking to me about it they all ganged up on me as if it solve their own issues." Usagi scoffed, sitting up and crossing her arms.
"So this all because they were scared of their futures?" Selene questioned and Usagi nodded. Selene let out an exasperated breath, "That's completely idiotic. Don't they know the future isn't set in stone, that it can be changed with every decision that we make!"
Usagi leaned back on the couch, "They probably would've known if they just said something." She said, "I'm sure if we talked about it something could've been done right? I mean current royals probably have their own personal lives outside the eyes of the media, right? Couldn't we have the same thing?"
"Of course you could." Selene said, "Celebrities are like royalty and they do their own thing and I definitely know royals who do the same. There's no rule saying that after you take the throne that your personal lives just stop. I mean you can't live the same way you do now but you could make adaptations."
Usagi shaked her head, "Why didn't we just talk? Did something change in our friendship to make us be unable to communicate with each other?" She said as she hugged herself. Tsuki jumped up on the couch and rubbed his head against her arm as his way to comfort the blonde.
Selene moved to side-hug Usagi, "They let their fear overpower their sense of loyalty and faith they were suppose have for you. It's even more proof that they are unworthy of being Senshi. Senshi's are supposed to be soldiers who have unwavering faith but since they let fear rule over them, they are undeserving of their titles as Senshi." Selene said
"Yeah that's true." Usagi sighed as she pulled Tsuki to her lap and held him.
Selene could tell she didn't sound totally convinced. She smiled to herself; her granddaughter had such a big and pure heart. "But it seems you still have doubts about taking their powers."
Usagi suddenly stood up, making Tsuki jump off her lap and she started to pace, "I know I shouldn't since the reason I called was because I said I made my final decision. But at the same time how can I take away the powers they have used to help save the Earth? Not to mention that Queen Serenity picked them to be my Soldier's because they were born to be Senshi's. Also adding to the fact that they're princesses and also in the future I saw, we were all okay and happy. We had no problems like this!"
Selene shaked her head, "Oh my sweet Usa, there are so many problems with your statement. First of all, even though my daughter picked them to be your soldiers; that was in the past when they were born knowing what their duties were and they didn't live the same lives as they do now. Secondly the only reason they're Sailor Solider is due to the fact that they have Sailor Crystal Star Seeds but that doesn't mean that they were meant to have this power. Especially since it wasn't their power to began with."
Usagi stopped pacing and stared the moon goddess, "Grandmother, what do you mean?"
"I think it's time you learn the truth about your Inner Senshi." Selene said as she patted the seat next to her and Usagi quickly moved to sit and hear news she feels might be ground breaking.
"The four ladies you know now were not supposed to be your Senshi." Selene began and Usagi gasped, "In the beginning, the four Inners Senshi were supposed to be the true princesses of Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter."
"And you're saying that Minako, Ami Rei and Makoto aren't the true princesses?" Usagi questioned and Selene nodded her head.
"The four princesses were originally second or third daughters of nobles who were born with Sailor Star Seeds. Because they has the Sailor Star Seeds, Queen Serenity chose them to be the princess of the four planets and gave them the castles for them to rule from. However before the ceremony where the Senshi would vow to protect you, the four princesses were killed by other jealous nobles who were envious that their daughters were not chosen." Selene sighed but continued on, "Queen Serenity punished the nobles but that still left the problem of Inner Senshi. Instead of waiting for new Senshi to be born, my inpatient daughter decided to take the Star Seeds of the four princesses and give it to their close servants who were already familiar with the duties."
Usagi gasped, "You mean to tell me that Minako, Ami, Rei and Makoto weren't even born with Sailor Star Seeds?!"
Selene nodded again, "When she suggested it, she said it was because she wanted to ensure your safety as soon as possible. Even though I understood her reasoning, it was too risky because we were endangering those young girls lives. I wanted to just wait and have one of Outer Senshi watch over you until a new Senshi was born. But she said no because the Outers has their own responsibilities, so I had no choice but agree and of course I helped, because knowing my daughter she would do it herself." Selene sighed deeply. "Anyways, we took the Sailor Star Seeds of the four princesses and together with my power and the Silver Crystal, the two of us were able to merge their normal Star Seeds with the Sailor Seeds giving them the abilities and transformations they have now."
Shocked, Usagi stood up trying to process all the information she just heard. "Okay, but why don't any of the Inners remember this, especially Minako?"
"I erased their previous memories so there wouldn't be any problems to their identities or even affect their power and as it seems even after being reincarnated their old memories are still gone."
Usagi furrowed her eyebrow as something Selene said caught her ears, "Wait what you mean affect their powers?"
"Well the powers of the Senshi's aren't theirs to begin with and to merge the Star Seeds, the girls needed to have a stable yet confident mind. If they had memories of the truth, I feared it would've broken their confidence and probably would've killed them as well, after all this has never been done before."
Usagi stayed quiet for a moment, absorbing all the information she just heard. Never in her life would she ever would've thought that the Inners were fake Sailor Soldiers. It immediately shattered all of her previous notions about the Senshi.
Almost as if reading her mind Selene said, "It certainly changes, doesn't it? Especially on any reasons why you're still hesitating on taking away their powers."
Usagi looked at Selene, "Is that why you waited until now to tell me about them? To give me a final reason on why I should take their powers? Or is it because you never wanted them to be my Senshi in the first place so now you have a great opportunity to finally rid of them of their Sailor powers?!" Usagi stood up, infuriated. It finally made sense as to why Selene was pushing her to removing their powers. She never wanted them to have them in the first place.
Selene stood up and held Usagi's face in her hands, "Usa" she said and Usagi calmed down a little and looked at the goddess. "While I won't lie and say I didn't want them to be Senshi. I will say that this isn't some plot for me to have their powers taken away because if that was true I would've suggested that in the beginning."
Usagi immediately felt guilty for her accusation. Selene was right, she had no reason to wait this long to tell Usagi when she could've done since Usagi first went crying to her about this a year ago.
"Like you, I had hoped that maybe the Inners would learn their lesson and sincerely apologize for what they did. But as you've seen even if they apologize it means nothing." Usagi couldn't help but agree with that. "As for why I'm telling you this now; I had a feeling that you might feel guilty about taking their powers as being a Senshi is a proud statement. So by telling you the truth, I has also hope it would lessen the guilt you would feel."
Usagi felt tears welled up in her eyes, "I'm sorry." She muttered
Selene smiled and moved her hands to hug Usagi, "It's okay. I was practically trying to push you to make a decision but it's only because I'm scared for you. I was worried that they will continue to disappoint you and even though I'm not saying they will, you have to consider that at least one of them will truly betray you. More so than they already have, I mean."
A year ago, Usagi probably would've never considered the Inners betraying her but the fact that even though Ami, Minako, Mamoru and Makoto apologized and they still let Rei bad mouth her and also Rei tried make her give up her titles. So now it wouldn't be strange for them to betray her even more.
Usagi pulled slightly away from Selene and looked at the goddess with determination, "I've made my decision, again." She smiled, "I have to be with people I know are trustworthy and right now that doesn't describe the Inners or Luna and Artemis or Mamoru. Grandmother, show me how to remove the Senshi's powers."
Selene patted Usagi's arms, "I'm sorry you have to do this to your Senshi but it's for the best." She said and Usagi nodded. "Follow me." And Selene walked out of the Palace's Great Hall and headed towards a section of the Palace Usagi hadn't been able to explore yet. While the hallways was lit up, all the chairs, tables and any portraits on the wall were covered up with sheets. Usagi could only guess that this section of the Palace wasn't even in use during the time of the Silver Millennium.
"Um Grandmother, where are we going?" Usagi asked
"Where it all started." She said
Usagi furrowed her brow, "Grandmother didn't we have a conversation on speaking cryptically." Selene merely laughed, not adding any comment which annoyed Usagi more.
They finally stopped in front of double doors looking same as the rest of the white doors in the Palace but apparently hiding its own secrets. As Selene opened the door, Usagi couldn't help but be a little excited to see the new room Selene brought her to and also wondered why here of all places. However once the door was fully open and Usagi can see the entirety of the room and she felt her excite drop and her disappointment sink in. The room was completely bare with two windows that were up high on the wall so no one can even see out of them.
"Uhh Grandmother, why did you bring me here?" Usagi wondered as she entered in the room after the moon goddess.
Selene walked over to the right side of the room and touched a spot on the wall that glowed once touched and it opened up a secret chamber. The room quickly lit up revealing the walls and floor to be made up of stone. Usagi's eyes looked to the center of the chamber, where four wooden boxes stood on a pillar in a wide circle of each other seemingly to enough space for someone to stand in the center of it all.
As Usagi walked closer, she noticed that there was carvings on floor that laid in front of the boxes and she gaped as she instantly recognized the markings. It was the symbols of Inner Senshi. "Grandmother this is….?"
"This is where Queen Serenity and I merged the Sailor Star Seeds." Selene answered
"And those boxes?" Usagi asked
"The boxes are the only containers strong enough to hold a Sailor Star Seed so that they don't disappear."
"Disappear? What do you mean?"
"If Sailor Star Seeds aren't within a vessel or a container, they will vanish so they can be reborn with the next true Sailor Solider. When the true princesses died, Queen Serenity acted quickly to extract the Star Seeds before they vanished. The boxes themselves were made by Hephaestus." Selene explained
"You asked one of the gods for a favor like that?" Usagi wondered with her eyebrows raised.
Selene gave a soft smile, "While I may not trust every single god on Olympus, there are a handful of gods and Titans I know can count on and will be able to keep my secret."
"Okay then; so I guess this is where I will bring the Inners but the only question is: how do I remove their powers? Is it a spell or something?" Usagi wondered
Selene chuckled, "If you remembered what I said earlier, the powers of the Inners don't belong to them."
"Ah right, the only reason they have powers is because you and Queen Serenity merged their Star Seeds with Sailor Star Se-" Usagi gasped, "To take the Inners powers I have to separate the Star Seeds."
"That's correct and also depending on what you decide you can either keep the Sailor Star Seeds in these boxes to always have the option of giving back their powers after they atone for their mistakes or you can let the Sailor Seeds vanish allowing the true Inner Senshi to awaken to serve and protect you."
Usagi lowered her eyes, "Allowing new Senshi to be awaken? Then won't it be just like the Inners all over again? Teenagers who used to worry about failing classes and dating, now have to deal with fighting monsters. Teenagers who were worried about college and marriage now have to deal with a future of immortality and never having a life of their own?! What the point of awakening new Senshi when history will just repeat itself?!" Usagi cried as she fell to her knees.
AN: I hope you enjoyed this chapter and I hope I can quickly finish up the next one to release it soon. Thank you so much guys. Till next time and stay safe ja ne!
