Almost 3 years later a baby with dark curls and chocolate brown eyes was born on a stormy September night at Mass General. Orbs of the same color were staring down at the tiny being laying on her naked chest its mouth already looking for her nipples which made Maura chuckle.
"He is definitely your son. Already looking for food." She stated and Jane smirked. "Don't forget his strong legs with which he tortured my bladder over the last weeks." They both paused to look at the small miracle they had brought into the world, a soft smile and comfortable silence laying over them.
"How will we name him?" Maura whispered, her hand gently stroking over the soft curls. Jane watched her and shook her head. "I don't know."
They had both decided to find a name once the baby was born, just like they had refused to learn about the sex during the pregnancy. Jane was pretty sure that Maura must have caught a glimpse during one of the last ultrasounds though and admired her for not spilling the beans. It wouldn't be Maura if she hadn't prepared a list of names. Her eyes rested calmly on the blonde waiting for her to pick a name from the list.
The blonde chewed on her lips before speaking up. "How about Philipp?" she finally said, and Jane looked at the boy before nodding. "Philipp Rizzoli-Isles. Doesn't sound so bad, what do you think Phil?"
The boy gave a small burp. "I think this would mean yes." Jane chuckled and pulled Maura closer to place a gentle kiss to her mouth. "I love you." She whispered.
"I love you more." Maura smiled at her as their fingers enlaced. They both chuckled when the door flew open and the Rizzoli clan consisting of Angela, Frankie jr. and Tommy walked into the room each of them holding a balloon.
"Oh my god!" Angela exclaimed when seeing her grandson for the first time. Jane had barely been able to cover up her chest to hide her breast from her brothers and blushed. "He looks just like you when you where at his age." The matriarch informed her, ignoring her discomfort.
"And you immediately looked for food." She laughed which made Jane blush even more while Maura burst out in laughter. "See, told you. You cant deny that it's your child."
"Our child, Maur." Jane insisted softly and Maura nodded.
Frankie and Tommy came closer to the boy who seemed to be oblivious to all the spectators suddenly surrounding him. A yawn made clear that he was ready to nap. No wonder, the 10 hours labor must have drained him as much as it had Jane.
"Can I hold him?" Angela asked with a wide grin on her face. The brunette glanced at Maura who nodded. She had held him earlier, after cutting his umbilical cord. "How did you name him?" Frankie asked curiously, scooting closer to Angela and the baby.
"We named him Philipp." Jane proudly said. "Philipp Rizzoli-Isles it is." Tommy nodded. "It's a great name."
"He's named after a friend of ours. He is a doctor too." Jane smiled, thinking about how her friend had grown to be her and Mauras friend over the last years. Maura and he sometimes spent hours on playing chess with each other or discussing medical journals, while the brunette still shared some poker nights with him. But most of the time they spend their time together.
"That's so sweet." Angela purred, unable to lift her eyes from her grandson.
R&I
Almost 2 years later, Maura was playing with her wedding band as she stood quietly in front of the window which gave a look into the interrogation room. Garrett Fairfield was sitting on one side of the table, while Jane and Korsak were manning the opposite side of it.
The blonde recalled all too well the one time, she had been in Garretts place a few years ago and the feelings of desperation after being framed by this man, who now glared at the detectives. His disheveled hair and the bags under his eyes were speaking of a restless night spent in custody with the police. The beard in his face was long and unkempt.
He had managed to hide for almost 5 years until the police had finally been able to catch him when he tried to pass customs at Logan airport with a fake name. The officer at customs had found that something was fishy when giving a background check and arrested Fairfield until his identity was cleared. From there on everything had gone its way and Jane had been more than excited to learn that Fairfield had been caught.
Maura thought about how the 5 years had turned her life around completely. Maura had written a book and founded an organization to help abused women.
A soft smile tugged on her face when she thought about the most important and best change though. She let her eyes wander to the wedding band on Janes hand, which was holding a file. It was the same as hers.
Jane had proposed to her on the most romantic places possible during their vacation in Europe after her release from prison. It had started in Rome and they had visited the most beautiful places on their journey until ending their trip in southern France after almost two months.
It had been one of these warm summer evenings when Jane had asked Maura if they would take a walk through the lavender fields of the Provence. The sun was setting slowly over the endless seeming land, accentuating the incredible purple color of the Lavender which spread up to the horizon.
Maura would never forget how the brunette had knelt amid such a field, her hands shaking as she offered the engagement ring to her with a smile. "Maura, babe.." They had burst out in laughter after Jane pausing, looking lost because she had forgotten her prepared speech out of nervousness and confessed this with a typical swear. "Hell, I can't believe it! Do you know how many times I have rehearsed this?"
"Yes. The answer is yes, Jane my badass detective and now fiancé." Maura had said and Jane had blushed, and they had hugged each other for a long time.
The blonde refocused on the present when the brunette cleared her throat to start the interrogation. But Maura didn't listen as she thought about how Constance and Arthur had helped her to get her marriage with Garrett annulled so they could get married before their son Philipp was born. He was so much like Jane that it was almost spooky but sweet. Then there was their little secret – the baby in Janes belly. They would soon be a family of four and Maura's heart jumped in joy, when she thought about the baby girl which was growing in Janes body.
After finding out that Maura couldn't carry any children, Jane had offered to be the one. And now the blonde pictured tow little kids with this dark mane running around their house and filling it with joy and laughter. She had secretly made a list of girl's names after discovering the baby's sex. Her favorite was Annie. Annie was due in three months and she kept noticing how Janes hand already kept touching her stomach subconsciously a lot lately.
Garrett Fairfield was going to jail, and he knew it. Maura could see it in his face. The police had gathered enough evidence to proof that he had staged his death and killed at least two people. He was a bad man, and no money on earth could save him this time.
A defeated and yet stubborn look crossed his face when Jane slid the file, she had been holding over to him. His eyes too were fixed on the wedding band. Then he smirked. The interrogation brought no confession, his replies were short and cold. But it didn't matter. The evidence would be enough for any judge in the world to lock him up for good.
Later that day they made love and Maura wondered why they had been so scared all the time to confess their feelings to each other earlier. "I love you." She whispered and moaned when Janes fingers entered her core.
The brunette paused briefly, her dark brown eyes searching Maura's. A soft smile in her face before she replied that she loved Maura too. Their eyes were gleaming, their movements delicate. This was how life was supposed to be Maura thought.
