Matthew 8:1-13 - Faith in Jesus
Welcome brothers and sister to another bible teachings. Today is the most important piece that makes everyone followers of Christ Jesus, faith and faithfulness. This has been place in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit. Through this we are given power to live boldly and confident in our salvation and promise of God. Many of us even as Christian can say we live as what God commands us, yet while our words should be filled with power, they only are true if we live by them. Sometimes when we set our eyes on things of this world, we tend to forget that we have our heavenly home to return. Yet it's times like these with the virus we sometimes have no faith in our Heavenly father. Sometimes when times are hard we believe we have rights, we live good lives, but the truth is being a Christian is long term suffering and self-sacrifice. This is when faith is put to test on our lives when good and bad things happen.
From Matthew 8:1-4, we are introduce to someone who had leprosy. A Powerful disease at the time, the man came to Jesus and bowed his head saying "Lord if you are willing, you can make me clean." In return Jesus willingly cleanse the man of his leprosy, but asked he doesn't speak about what Jesus did. From there of Matthew 8:5-13, we have another story from a Centurion. To get some clarification, this man is someone that serve as Roman, a military figure that serve in their legion. What we see here is the Centurion came to Jesus asking to heal his servant that has been sick. While Jesus is willing, the Centurion knew that he wasn't worthy of him. Here we are told about the Centurion and how he can command his servants and serves under someone under high authority. The Centurion asked Jesus to just say the word and his servant would be healed.
It's here we are told of how amazed Jesus is with this man and speaks to those around him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found such faith in anyone in Israel." This paragraph here says how Jesus is amazed by someone who is Roman, not of Israel origin had shown such faith his Jesus that many others had lack of faith or never had faith. This was something truly special as Jesus had healed his servant with his word alone, and how the Centurion had such faith in Jesus. Faith is not only speaking of faith, it also has to be acted upon it. For many times when we say we have faith, when times are trouble we don't have that same faith as when we said it. Yet here we are shown that faith is place on someone they had not ever known or met before. Yet when hearing of Jesus they place all their faith on him and he healed the man from Leprosy and illness.
Folks we live in a time where faith is little to almost no where. The world is demanding we place our trust in worldly things on earth and not in our heavenly father. This can lead to many heart breaks and troubles we cannot always bear. You know those movies, TV Shows that speak of believe in our friendship and family. While there is some truth in this, and other things it's place on the wrong things in life. For when it comes to our Lord Jesus and his great love for us, he never fails us. Yet that cannot be said when we lack faith in our Lord Jesus. For many times we need to place our faith in him if we are to face the test and trials in our lives.
Nobody said that having faith and living in faith will be easy. It's even in the bible how our lives will be filled with Tribulation and trials that will put us to our weakest points, yet when we place our faith and trust in Christ Jesus we will overcome them. I say this not through experience, but also because there are testimony and many times in the Bible God has spoken of many people that have been tested to their lowest. Yet what got them through is their faith in something greater then this world's trouble and many times when we face them we must live by this faith. I will say this, sometimes your faith will be tested, you may have moments you lost your faith, there will be times that our lord isn't listening or seeing our needs, but know that no matter the situation or Circumstance, God is always watching and knows our need. But we must be willing to place our faith and trust in him.
