Luz was in the Owl House before school trying to make more glyphs, while King was using her phone to watch video's.
"Come on, work already." Luz tapped the plant glyph and a small flower grew, "Yes! Check it out King, my glyph skills are... blossoming"
"You think that's impressive, check this out. Two warriors battling to the death!"
Luz looked at her phone and saw to little cats playing. She looked up and saw Eda's portal open.
"I see we're getting enough WIFI through the portal for cat videos." Luz said.
"Senseless violence, yes, attack, DEATH IS YOUR GOD!" King screamed.
"I regret teaching you about the Internet."
"Hah! What possible regrets could come from the internet- Oh! Did you know that the Earth is actually flat?"
"Yep, that's not right." Luz said taking back the phone.
She got a text from her mom and looked at it.
"Have a good day at school, Bebe!"
Luz smiled and texted her back.
"I will! Love you!"
The door opened and Hooty started talking.
"Hoot hoot, Luz! Time to fill that darling little head of yours with..." He regurgitates a stack of books onto the ground, "Delicious knowledge!"
'Why does he have my books?' Luz thought.
"Please, hurry." Gus said, making his presence known.
"The longer I look at him, the more uncomfortable I get." Willow said.
Luz handed the phone back to King and kissed him on the head.
"Don't spend all day watching MewTube, 'kay?"
"I FORGE MY OWN PATH!"
On the phone screen, a fluffy black cat chases its tail. He snickers.
"What a dum-dum." He bats at his own tail and lies down, "Ugh. Who has the energy?"
Luz, Gus, and Willow walked through the halls as they were getting decorated.
"That time of the year." Luz said, "I wonder who's going to be chosen this year?"
"I think the most important question is, who are you guys going to ask?" Gus said.
As she was talking; a pair of arms, covered in pink, wrapped around her waist. The owner of the arms placed their head on Luz's shoulder.
"I think this answer's your question." Luz said.
"She isn't allowed to go with anyone but me." Amity said.
Suddenly two paramedics (Or at least the Boiling Isles equivalent) came rushing by.
"Huddle away!" One said.
The workers surround a beast-keeping student with dark skin, blonde hair that covers his eyes, and big, pointy ears resembling that of a bat.
"Come with us immediately! Your disease- it's advancing!"
They help him onto the stretcher.
"Is there a cure, doc?"
"Only one... finding the perfect date to Grom!" A worker said.
"If that's the cure... then, Skara, will you go to Grom with me?"
He holds out a beating heart, with "GROM?" written on it in blue ink.
"Ahhhhh! Of course I will, or whatever!" Skara said, hugging him.
Suddenly, the speaker screeches and Principal Bump's voice comes over the intercom. The students murmur and whisper to each other.
"This is it."
"I'm so nervous."
"Attention Hexside students. This is your principal speaking."
"Oh, man, this is it!" Gus said
"This year, I have the privilege to bestow our highest Grom honor to... Amity Blight. Our Grom queen!"
The students gasp and turn to Amity. She appears nervous and is noticeably uneasy. Luz attempts to calm her but she runs away. Later, Luz finds Amity sitting on the gym bleachers. She sits next to her and wraps an arm around her.
"Everything will be okay, Ami."
"No it won't Luz. I have to face Grom, I have to confront my fear... I don't think I can do it."
"Why don't you just tell Bump that you don't want to be Grom Queen? Unless talking to Bump is your biggest fear."
Amity lets out a small laugh and leaned her head against Luz's chest.
"No, but, that's a great idea Luz. Thanks."
Amity gave Luz a quick peck on the lips before leaving. Later, Luz walks into the Owl House to collect her phone. She heard Eda give a painful noise. Luz walked into Eda's room and saw King helping Eda tailor a suit.
"Watch it with those needles."
"Why am I doing this? I don't even wear clothes!" King said.
"Hey, sweet duds, Owl Lady. What's the occasion?"
"I'm chaperoning Grom." Eda said.
"Um, why are they having the former criminal chaperone?" Luz asked.
"Well, it was supposed to be Lilith, but she's busy. So, she 'volunteered' me."
"And Gus asked me to co-emcee the fight! We're going to turn this blood bath into a fun bath!" King said, holding up a poster of him and Gus.
"Oh, have they announced the victim yet?" Eda asked.
"Yeah, it's Amity. She's freaking out about it. I wish I could just take her place or something."
King and Eda started to laugh at the statement.
"Great joke, Luz." King said.
"H-hey, I'm serious!" Luz said.
"Hey, listen Princess. It's a noble sentiment but come on, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. You never have seen anything like Grom." Eda said.
"You said you were born to a rich family too. Shouldn't that mean that you aren't able to face anything like Grom?" Luz asked.
"The difference between us is I've been on run since I was 15. I've been fighting to stay alive most my life. You've been in a castle getting whatever you want."
"Hey, I am not just some pampered Princess that's been spoiled her whole life! I've been learning lots of new spells, I can totally handle it!"
"There's a horrific spider in your hair."
"Nope, not falling for it. I'm not as weak as you think I am."
Luz left the Owl House and King looked at Eda.
"Don't you think you were a little hard on her?"
"She has too many secrets, if Grom sees her mind then he'll use those and she'll be found out." Eda looks at a mirror, "You think I can pull off red eyeshadow?"
"Girl you can pull off anything." King said.
Luz was hitting bushes with a branch while complaining.
"Silver Spoon'. Eda doesn't know me! I'm brave! I'm a bad boy!" Luz jumped a little when she heard footsteps, "Ominous footsteps, creepy woods... this is no problem."
She braces for impact and holds up her branch.
"LUZ CHOP! AAAAAAHHHHHH!"
She charges at the figure and hit them with the branch. She hears their voice and creates a light spell.
"Amity! I'm so sorry!"
Luz helped Amity up while Amity struggled to get her footing in the mud.
"And here I thought this day couldn't get any worse."
Amity sat on a stump and Luz just decided to sit in the mud.
"So, did you talk to Bump? Was it as terrifying as you imagined?"
"He said no. I'm Grom Queen... unless I can find someone to replace me. But who would do that?"
"I would." Luz said.
"What?"
"Amity Blight, I'll do it. I'll take your place and face Grom in the arena. I'll be your fearless champion!"
The spider Eda was talking about crawls onto Luz's face. She screams and faceplants into the mud. Amity looks on, concerned.
"fearless... champion..." Luz said.
Later, Luz was at the Owl House with a few different outfits.
"Luz! You have a guest!" Hooty said.
"Hooty!" Luz said, while smacking him away, "Amity!"
"If that bird tube ever talks to me again... I'm going to destroy it." Amity said, "Luz, no. Not the otter onesie."
"Why not? I thought you love your otter... with a dark side." Luz said.
"Yes, I do love it... when we're cuddling not at Grom." Amity said, "You need to take this seriously. You know what happens if you can't defeat Grom."
"Yes, everyone will have to live out their worst nightmares." Luz said.
"You want to hear my worst nightmare?" Hooty said, pressing up against Amity's face.
A few minutes later Amity and the twins stood in front of the Owl House. In the background, Hooty has an eye patch and is covered in multiple bandages.
"Grom will transform into your darkest fears. What are you afraid of, Luz?" Amity asked.
"Wanna say our greatest fears? On three- one two... being alone forever!" Edric said.
"Being stuck with you forever." Emira said at the same time.
Edric gets a little sad at his twin's response.
"You know, I'm not too sure what my fear is." Luz said.
"Well think! There has to be something that makes you feel fear." Amity said, "The reason I can't do it is because my fear is something that will literally break me if I go through with this."
"My fear is... that Eda thinks I'm not able to do this. If she's right then I'll never be able to live up to the expectations my parents put on me."
The twins shared an evil smirk and made a giant illusion of Eda.
"You're inadequate." The illusion said.
The illusion made a spell circle and Luz found herself in a baby chair. In Eda's room, she was fixing a bow tie and looked in the mirror.
"Meow. I still got it." She said.
"No!" Luz screamed.
Eda goes into the front yard where Luz, Amity, Edric and Emira are. She takes off her bowtie.
"I get it. Ditch the yellow. Is that supposed to be me?" She looks at the illusion of herself, which smiles down at her, "Dang, I look great. (chuckle) Wait a sec- you're training to be Grom queen!"
"So what if I am!"
She topples in her high chair and it disappears.
"You thing training will help against Grom? Luz, you always go overboard and I end up bailing you out. Now, what's the fun in watching a kid get eaten by a monster if its my kid?"
"So I'm your kid?" Luz said with a smug smile.
"You know what I mean." Eda said.
"I'm going to be Grom Queen! And I will defeat Grom!" Luz said.
"Luz, I don't think you're ready but we are literally out of time." Amity said.
"I'll take it."
At Grom students were dancing and Amity was at the door.
"You seem nervous."
Amity turned and saw Boscha.
"I kind of am. Luz took my place but what if something happens. What if my fear comes true when she's facing Grom?"
"Hey, look at me. She's strong. She will be fine. Okay?" Boscha said.
"You're right. I should have more faith in her." Amity said, "So, who did you come to Grom with?"
"Oh, you know just a friend."
"Boscha, you coming?" Willow asked.
"I'll be there in a minute, Willow."
Willow went back in the Gym and Amity looked at Boscha.
"What?"
"So, Willow? I always knew you liked her." Amity said.
"I... she's... we're friends! She didn't have a date. I didn't have a date. So, we decided we'd go together as friends." Boscha said before crossing her arms.
"And the obvious note sticking out of your pocket."
Amity grabbed it and read it with a small chuckle.
"Blight, if you don't give me that back right now... I'm going to use your head as my Grudgby ball."
"I think it's cute. Oh, I wonder what your children would look like." Amity teased.
Boscha took the note back and stuffed it into her pocket. She went back into the gym while mumbling about Amity.
"I don't know if it's nerves or I accidentally drank some milk, but something is making my stomach squirm." Luz said.
"You look nice. Strange but... nice. Thank you, Luz. Promise me you'll be safe."
"Come on, Ami. You know it'll take more than Grom to take me out."
Amity kissed Luz.
"There, it's a good luck kiss."
"Now, it's time to introduce our Grom Queen!" Gus said, "You know her, you... at least tolerate her, Luz Noceda!"
"I guess it's time." Luz said.
Luz walked into the gym and Gus pressed the button. Skara and her boyfriend went crazy with Grom Fever (That's what I'm calling it, don't at me). Luz looked over the weapons and picked up a mace. She walked down the steps and waited for Grom. Grom rose up and looked at Luz. It touched her head and shrunk down. Luz watched as Grom took form.
"Hello, Luz." Grom said.
Grom looked like... her. Except with brown eyes and round ears. Luz realized what she was, it was her human side. Luz swung the mace at Grom and 'she' dodged Luz. She grabbed the mace from Luz and kicked Luz away. Luz attempted to make a spell circle but, like usual, her bile sac decided that now was the perfect time to stop working.
"I thought you were a master weapon's expert. You couldn't even get one hit on me. Oh, is your magic not working?" Grom said.
Luz eyes widen as she realizes what about to happen.
"Oh no." Luz said.
"Oh yes. Is your magic not working because you're half human?"
Luz heard a collective gasp from the audience. Luz looked at the ground and covered her mouth. Tears started to form in her eyes as she heard whispers about her.
"Oh, are you going to cry? Your big secret revealed. Well, your second biggest secret at least." Grom said, "You're afraid of several different things. It being revealed that you're part human, not being able to meet the expectations you've had since birth, or it being revealed who your parents are. I have so much-"
Grom was cut off when a pillar of ice hit her in the head. She looked and saw Luz holding an Ice glyph. Tears running down her face and her expression was something that looked foreign to everyone. Pure anger. Grom smiled.
"You want a fight? Alright."
Grom changed into its normal monster form with Luz's fear on top. Luz remembered something about humans. This thing called flight or fight, and her being half human gives her a bit of knowledge in this... she knew what to do. She ran up the stairs and out of the gym with Grom chasing her. Luz ran all the way to a cliffside with Grom closing in on her.
"Run all you want, little Princess. But you can't run from who you are." Grom said.
"You aren't me!" Luz said.
"You're half human! You'll never be accepted now that everyone knows you aren't a real witch." Grom said.
"Spicey toss!"
Eda through a ball of fire at Grom and it turned around.
"Eda, you were right! I wasn't ready!"
"That's okay, I got this one."
Before Eda could perform the spell she was making, Amity jumps out from the trees and puts herself between Luz and the Grom.
"Stay away from her!"
Grom growls and reaches out an inky arm towards Amity, lifting her high above the ground.
"Amity!"
"I'm sorry, Luz. I should have fought my own battle."
Grom's eyes glow blue, reading Amity's mind.
"I..."
Her eyes glow blue in return.
"Amity! No, your fear!"
Grom shrunk and becomes the shape of a person, laying on the ground. Amity fell to her knees and started crying. Luz moved closer and saw what form Grom took. Grom was still Luz, except this time with a large red hole in her chest. Luz put a hand on Amity's shoulder.
"Amity, that isn't me! Look! I'm still here!"
Amity looked over at Luz and hugged her.
"Please don't leave me, Luzzy." Amity said.
"I promise. I'll never leave you, Ami." Luz said, wiping away Amity's tears.
The two got up and Grom roared at them.
"Well, if that's settled... may I have this dance?" Amity asked reaching out a hand.
She takes it. They come close to dance, the moon shining brightly before them. They dance and Amity does a split and casts a spell with her feet, forming a giant abomination below their feet and rising up. Luz places plant-glyphs on it. They jump off, and the Abomination goes into Grom's mouth. The plants start to bloom. Grom explodes behind Luz and Amity as they finish their dance with a flourish. A giant tree is in its place. Luz and Amity each have a Grom tiara appear on their heads. They look on and smile. Luz grabbed Amity's hand.
"So... your fear is me dying?" Luz asked, "I'll make sure you never have to see that happen."
"Thank you, Luz."
"And there you have it, folks. A happy ending for this year's Grom. Let's give a big hand to our Grom queens, Luz and Amity!" King said into a microphone.
Luz flashes a toothy smile as Amity blushes awkwardly. The students pop out of the bushes and run toward them, cheering. They parade the girls, holding them up. Luz puts a hand on Amity's shoulder. The two share a kiss as the crowd picks up King. Later, Luz walked into the castle where her mother was waiting for her.
"Oh no, you have the evil smile, mami." Luz said, looking for her dad.
"That's right." Camila said.
Luz knew what an evil smile meant. Her parents were planning a hug attack on her. She got lifted up from behind and knew her dad was lifting her.
"Hello dad." Luz said.
"Oh, my precious Princess. How was your night?" Belos asked.
"I think the tiara should indicate that. Can you put me down now? Tonight's been hard."
Luz went to her room and looked through Penstagram. Every part of Grom was being talked about. From her and Amity being the first co-queens, to the fight, to something normal like who was the best dancer? Then, she noticed the hashtag, #LuzNoceda. Luz hesitantly tapped it and looked at the pictures.
Boscha: Half human or not, #LuzNoceda has taught Grom who's boss.
Willow: #LuzNoceda, is toughest witch there is.
Amity: Had the night of my life with my girlfriend and co-queen, #LuzNoceda.
Luz smiled. It didn't seem that anyone really cared about her being half human. At least she managed to keep one secret hidden. She started to receive a few messages from her friends.
"Hey, Luz! Can we meet up and talk tomorrow?"-Boscha
"Luz, you should come to a H.A.S meeting!"-Gus
"I had a great night, Luz, and I'm going to hold you to that promise."-Amity
Luz put her scroll away and took off the tiara. She placed it on her desk and took off her outfit. She got her PJ's on and jumped into bed. She rubbed the back of Violet, who decided to lay next to her, and closed her eyes. Maybe tonight wasn't as bad as she thought.
