Yu-Gi-Oh ! GX : Destiny's Dawn
CHAPTER 12
The Academy had become a battlefield ever since the tournament started- Exactly as Vellian Crowler had claimed it would be. Duels after duels, the day was marked by never ending dueling. It was now night, and things have quieted down. Although, it was quite possible there were still some who had yet to quench their thirst for the battle.
In the Obelisk Blue Boys dorm, it was time for Dinner. The remnants of the students of Duel Academy were there, the room was far more than enough to accommodate them.
"Man, you Obelisk Guys got pretty delish food here," Jaden said as he was eating or rather gulping down his plates, "It doesn't beat Banner's cooking, that's for sure!"
Syrus didn't seem to agree with him. "Eh, this is way more delicious. But I guess the dishes at our dorm has a more homely feel to them."
"You get used to them," Chumley stated, holding a piece of bread on one hand munching it. "But now that I ate here, it'll be really hard to go back to the uh- barely edible stuff we have."
"Ahem." Zane cleared his throat as he got up, "It's nice to see that you enjoy yourselves, but that's not why we're here. Let's get straight to the point."
Bastion nodded. "Yes, that would be best. You had something to tell us, didn't you, Zane?" He asked, while finely dining on a luxurious salad.
Zane nodded back in response. "Right. What I'm about to tell you will be important. We have to win the tournament, or otherwise this academy will belong to the Princeton Group." He said, narrowing his eyes.
Jaden was rather confused. "Princeton Group? Like Chazz's brothers?" He asked. "I mean…what's the worst that's going to happen? Not that I'm planning on losing any time soon."
"It looks silly, but I feel if Duel Academy belongs to them things will get real ugly." Zane replied, closing his eyes and sighing. "And I feel as though Sheppard is hiding things from me. I would go and get words from his mouth, but now's not the time for that."
"Zane, I think you might be uh- just a bit..erm, forget it." Syrus mumbled to himself, too nervous to speak up his mind. Bastion pondered on what Zane said until a theory popped up inside his mind.
"I think I see where Zane is coming from," The Ra Yellow said. "The Princeton Group is known to have a bad relation with KaibaCorp. The two brothers both hate Kaiba's guts, if they get Duel Academy they will have indeed triumphed over him. That may not concern us much, but given the hatred they have for him.." Bastion narrowed his eyes.
"It's very well possible the instant they get the academy, they'll shut it down. Just out of pure spite."
"What?!" Chumley slammed his hand into the table, shocked. "W-Whoa, Chum, what's gotten into you?" Jaden asked. He too was concerned about this situation but didn't know what caused Chumley to jump like that.
"I-If Duel Academy shuts down…I will never be able to do what I really want!" The koala-resembling boy said. "Oh, wait! That's right! You were thinking of joining Industrial Illusions as a designer," Syrus explained, "But you need to graduate first."
"Darn! In that case we won't let you down, Chumley." Jaden smiled, standing up and patting Chumley on the back. "We'll win and save Duel Academy. Isn't that right, everyone?"
"Of course. Ever since the start of the competition, I've had but one desire in mind. To be victorious." Bastion stated. "Same for me. It's my duty to protect Duel Academy, I won't let some greedy maniacs get their filthy hands on it." Zane added.
"Alright, that's the spirit! We'll do our best!" Jaden exclaimed, barely able to contain his excitement before he snapped and put on his duel disk. "That got me all pumped up. I'm gonna go ahead and find someone to duel!"
"W-Wait, Jay! It's still pretty late!" Syrus tried to stop him but Jaden had ran out at that point. "Jeez, there's no stopping him when he gets like that. But you know..That's…That's what makes Jaden, Jaden."
"Yeah, we owe him a lot, Sy. We wouldn't be who are now without him." Chumley added, nodding. "It's pretty late, so we're going back home. Thanks again for the meal."
"You watch yourselves out there." Zane told them. Syrus and Chumley then promptly left the area and headed for the Slifer Red dorm.
"You know, Chum, I think sometimes Jaden is a bit too reckless." Syrus admitted. "But I also sometimes wish I were more like him."
"Me too, Sy, me too." Chumley said. "Well, well, if it isn't the two dorks." A familiar voice ringed, causing the two to stop. "That voice..I heard it before!" Syrus said, wide-eyed.
"Of course you did, who would ever forget ME?!" The voice got closer- As a matter of fact, it was just in front of them. It was none other than Chazz Princeton.
"C-Chazz?!" Both Syrus and Chumley exclaimed, shocked to see him again. "Missed me?" Chazz asked with a smug face. He had changed appearances and instead of wearing the Obelisk Blue outfit, he was wearing a black coat that was blowing in the wind.
"Hey, wait up!" This time, it was an unfamiliar voice. Running to Chazz's side was a blue haired boy wearing a lavender-colored shirt with a blue jacket above it, all coupled with black pants. "And who's this now?" Chumley asked.
"Tsk, didn't I tell you to stop following me already?" Chazz turned to the boy, not pleased to see him. "I couldn't find you anywhere and got worried about you." The blue haired boy was wheezing from all the running before he caught his breath. He then perked up to look at both Syrus and Chumley.
"Oh, I didn't notice you were there! I'm Jesse Anderson." Jesse introduced himself. "Oh, uh, I'm S-Syrus Truesdale, and this is Chumley Huffington." Syrus added, not sure what to say else.
"Wait..Truesdale? Hold on where did I hear that before?" Jesse put his hand on his chin and looked around, as he remembered. "Aaah! Zane Truesdale! Do you know a guy named like that?"
(What's with this guy?) Syrus thought, he simply decided to answer him. "Y-Yeah, I do. He's my big brother."
Jesse grinned at the answer. "Is that right? Well, then, let's duel! I want to see how good you are! I've been wanting to duel Zane, but you're the best next thing."
"Sy, is it me or does it feel like we're standing in front of Jaden? He's so similar." Chumley said, noting a similarity.
"That's why I can't handle this guy, he reminds me of that blasted slacker." Chazz grumbled to himself, "Anyways, First, I got to them before you did, so they're my opponents. Second, if you think he's even half as good as Zane, you'll be in for a disappointment. So back off! I'm taking care of them!" Chazz said as he got up close and personal to Jesse.
"Jeez! Can't you go and duel the Koala instead?" Jesse asked, a bit annoyed. "I want to duel Syrus! So move out, Chazz. Or are you doing this so you can take my place as the top duelist of North Academy?"
"Why you- I don't need to prove anything! I'm better than you!" Chazz pointed at him and shouted dramatically. "Ah! But I distinctly remember that I won against you." Jesse replied, causing Chazz to get even more angry.
"Er, if you want so badly to duel us, why not do a tag duel?" Syrus asked, causing the bickering duo to look at him. "Hey, that's not a shabby idea. Let's do it." Jesse nodded, agreeing.
"No, thank you! I'd do anything but team up with this guy. What's the matter, scared to duel the Chazz?!" Chazz was against the idea, obviously.
Chumley scratched the back of his head, "I mean uh, it's either that or nothing will be done. Sy's idea is licious, lemme tell you that."
"Yeah, like, come on," Jesse attempted to prod young Princeton. "If you don't want people to know we teamed up, then I won't go around telling. So how about it?"
"Erggg..Fine!" Shouted Chazz loud and out, "You better keep your promise! And you two dorks, let's get this game on!" Chazz said as he raised his arm and activated his duel disk.
"Aw yeah! Let's do this!" Jesse followed shortly. "This is it, Sy, We win or we lose!" Chumley said. "Right! Let's win and make Jaden proud of us." Syrus added as the two of them were ready to duke it out.
"Let's duel!" The four duelists shouted in unison.
(Syrus/Chumley: 8000 LP)
(Chazz/Jesse: 8000 LP)
"The Chazz shall start the show!" Chazz said as he drew a card, the duel began with his turn. "Watch closely stronger, I'm about to do something that will blow your minds! I activate Double Summon!" Chazz said as he played a normal spell card. "Wow, I wonder what that does." Chumley asked sarcastically.
"Joke while you can, you won't be laughing at the end of it! With Double Summon- I can normal summon twice instead of once! So I summon these two- V-Tiger Jet and W-Wing Catapult, both in attack mode!" Chazz said as two machines, one that looked like a metallical Tiger (ATK/ 1600 | 1800) and the other two planes glued to each other. (ATK/ 1300 | DEF/ 1500)
"It's those cards! I remember him using them against Jaden!" Syrus pointed out.
"I'm glad you remember, dork, because you'll remember this too! I combine both W-Wing Catapult and V-Tiger Jet to form- Drum rolls, please!" Chazz waved his arm, "VW-TIGER CATAPULT!" The two monsters that Chazz summoned combined with each other as sparks of electricity resulted from the merging, they had become a single powerful monster. (ATK/ 2000 | DEF/ 2100)
"A two thousand attack points monster in the first turn?! Not 'licious!" Chumley began to sweat.
"And you're lucky, I could have done worse. But ah, no need to go all out against two slackers like you. I'll end my turn by setting this face-down card." Chazz said, inserting a card.
"D-Don't worry, Chum, I'm sure we'll handle it." Syrus said with uncertainty as he gulped and drew a card. He smiled as he saw what he drew, "T-This won't be so bad! You scared us with your mean monster, Chazz, but I'm going on the offensive now! Go, Steamroid!" Syrus exclaimed as a cartoony train appeared, smoke coming out from its chimney. (ATK/ 1800 | DEF/ 1800)
"Good going, Sy! Steamroid's effect allows it to beat Chazz's monster!" Chumley said. "Er, what's he talking about?" Jesse asked, scratching his head. "Hah, I expected you wouldn't know what that toy can do," Chazz said, "Well, here's the thing, and you'd do best to remember. When Steamroid attacks, it gets a boost in its attack points. Five hundred to be exact."
Syrus clenched his hand into a fist, "That's right! Steamroid attacks and has his points raise to twenty-three hundred attack points!" Steamroid choo-chooed as it made way for Chazz's monster, it grew bigger with the increase in attack points. (ATK/ 1800 → 2300 | DEF/ 1800)
But Chazz wasn't going to let himself be easily had. "Not so fast, Slacker! I hope you haven't forgotten about my face-down cards!"
"Aw, man! As a matter of fact, I totally did!" Syrus exclaimed, horrified. He had been too excited at the prospect of beating Chazz in the duel.
"Negate attack!" Chazz said, as a cyclone emerged from the card that stopped Steamroid and sent it back to Syrus, it then shrunk back in size as it reverted to its original attack points. (ATK/ 2300 → 1800 | DEF/ 1800)
"Man, I thought you being the Emperor's brother, you wouldn't be too reckless." Jesse admitted, "It's okay, I still have faith in you. You can do it!"
"W-Why are you cheering for the enemy?!" Chazz turned to him, irritated. "Yep, just like Jaden alright." Chumley sighed. "Sy, don't beat yourself up. You're doing good." Chumley tried to reassure him.
"Yeah..But I still have some work left to do. I'll just set two cards face down and call it a turn." Syrus spoke, and ended his turn.
Jesse grinned, and he enthusiastically drew a card, "My turn!" He loudly exclaimed, before looking at his hand. "Alright! Here I come, and I'm not gonna hold back! If you guys ever wanted a change in scenery, then you're going to be happy! I activate the field spell- Ancient City Rainbow Ruins!" Jesse said as the extra spell/trap slot opened and he inserted the card into it.
The area began to shake as quickly the four duelists found themselves inside an arena. And despite the time being night, it was as if it was morning with a rainbow in the sky. Truly the wonders of technology.
"Where are we?!" Syrus asked, "A-Are we still in Duel Academy, why is it day now?"
"Haha, relax, we didn't go anywhere. Uhm, well, I don't think we did." Jesse said, scratching his cheek. "Just play already." Chazz said, getting impatient.
Jesse sighed, "You can be a real party pooper, you know that? Eh, no point in being all showy then. Come out, Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus!" Jesse said as he played a monster. A silver gem emerged before a Pegasus emerged from it and landed on the ground after gracefully flying. (ATK/ 1800 | DEF/ 1200)
The Pegasus looked at Jesse, with the boy nodding. "And Sapphire Pegasus has a handy effect. When he's summoned to the field, I can place one crystal beast monster from my hand, deck or graveyard in my spell and trap zone."
Chumley and Syrus looked confused by this. A monster in the S/T zone? Unconceivable. "Wait, you're seriously going to play a monster in the Spell & Trap zone?" Chumley asked and after asking that question, he began to feel unwell.
"Yep," Jesse replied, "This is the power of my Crystal Beasts! Together, there is nothing that can bring us down!" He then turned over his shoulder and nodded. "Ruby, let's show 'em." He stated. But to Chumley and Syrus it just looked like he was talking to no one.
Jesse pulled his deck and searched his cards, before grabbing one, shuffled the deck and put it back into the tray. "The monster I chose is Crystal Beast – Ruby Carnbuncle. You go out there, buddy." He said with a smile as a small red gem appeared behind the Pegasus. "Anywho, I reckon it's time for battle! Sapphire Pegasus will attack your Steamroid," He said, winking, "I know about its effect. When its attacked, it loses five hundred points."
"Y-You're well informed." Syrus said as the Pegasus was flying towards Steamroid. Steamroid shrunk in size as its attack point dropped. (ATK/ 1800 → 1300 | DEF/ 1800)
Sapphire Pegasus raised its head and from the tip of its horn formed a white orb that turned into a beam and destroyed Steamroid in the explosion that resulted.
"Urk!" Chumley and Syrus struggled to stay on their feet. (Syrus/Chumley: 8000 → 7500 LP)
Jesse still wasn't done. "And don't forget, there's still Chazz's monster, so go and deal some damage will ya-..Wait, what's that?" He asked as he saw a trap card on Syrus' field.
Syrus coughed as some dust got into his mouth. "A-Ahem, it's my Supercharge trap card. When my opponent declares an attack and the only monsters I have on my field are vehicroid monsters- I can draw two cards." Syrus said as he drew two cards. Jesse whistled.
"Pretty handy. Well, where were we? Ah, right, Chazz's monster attacks." VW-Tiger Catapult pointed its cannons at the two of them and let fire.
"I don't think so!" Syrus said, his tone more confident than before as he revealed his second trap card. "Magic Cylinder! Your attack goes right back to you!"
This move was enough to make Chumley grin, "Yeah! Take that!" He said. "Ah, shucks." Jesse went as the attack went through one of the cylinder and returned to them, causing them to lose life points instead. (Chazz/Jesse: 8000 → 6000 LP)
After the smoke dissipated, Chazz shook his head, "Moron! You fell for the same trap that slacker did! Who's the reckless one now, huh?!" He yelled at JEsse.
Jesse looked around, not really fazed by Chazz's shouting. "Uhm, well, sometimes you have to jump straight into the problems of life. Besides, we didn't lose yet, did we? At least we cleared their field, that's something to be proud of!" Jesse claimed, before he set a card face-down and ended his turn.
"Whatever, loser, you better not do something stupid like that." Chazz said, quickly cooling down. "We still have a bit of lead, Sy, we gotta take advantage of that." Chumley said, with Syrus agreeing. "It's my turn now!" Chumley stated. "I got a good hand, Sy! Watch this! I play polymerization!" Chumley said. "Wait, are you going to summon…?!" Syrus looked shocked but was quite happy.
"That's right! I fuse my Big Koala and Des Kangaroo-" Chumley said as a giant Koala and a green kangaroo with a purple jacket and boxing gloves appeared. Both leapt high up in the air as a swirl was formed, "To form the all-powerful Master of Oz!" With that, a monster that combined both characteristics showed up and it boasted a very, very impressive attack and defense points. (ATK/ 4200 | DEF/ 3700)
Jesse and Chazz were shocked. "What is that thing?!" Chazz went pointing at it. "Over four thousands attack points? That's not good!" Jesse admitted.
"Go, Master of Oz! Outback attack!" Chumley extended his arm with his hand clenched into a fist. Master of Oz began swinging its arm before it lunged for a punch towards Sapphire Pegasus, its fist was as big as the Crystal Beast's body and destroyed it. "That's bound to have done some immense damage!" Syrus said but curiously enough, Chazz and Jesse's life points didn't drop in the slightest. "What, but how?" asked Syrus.
"Easy!" Jesse answered, "I played this card here, Crystal Flash. I can send a Crystal Beast from my hand to the Spell & Trap card zones and if I do that, I turn any battle damage involving a Crystal Beast monster zero. So I chose my Emerald Tortoise to do the job, but he's not much of a tortoise anymore." Jesse turned to look as there was now a green gem next to the red one. "And since Sapphire got destroyed, he comes back to the field and yep, once again my Spell & Trap cards zone." With that, a silver gem was formed, there were now three.
"You better make some room for my trap and spell cards, eh?" Chazz asked, he wasn't fond of Jesse hogging all of the space.
"Darn, this is totally bogus!" Chumley said. "Then I throw down a face down and end my turn." With that a face-down card appeared on the field. Chazz had returned, doubling in vigor. And he was allied with an excellent duelist that might even rival Jaden in skills. But Chumley and Syrus- They knew they had to defeat them. For Duel Academy's sake.
