Found Out
"You get him here?" Karen asked, walking into the station the next morning, finding Theo and Cassie.
"Yeah, interview room two." Theo said as Karen nodded. She needed someone to accompany her in the interview room. She would have picked Theo for the experience but her head said Cassie.
"Cassie, you come with me." Karen nodded to her, walking off to the interview room as Cassie turned to Theo, gulping nervously.
"Go." Theo chuckled, shoving her forward a little as Cassie nodded, walking after Karen like a lost puppy as Theo smiled to himself. There was no one Cassie could learn better from in his opinion, especially if she wished to become detective one day.
"You good with being here? I know it's your sister." Karen said after Cassie caught up with her.
"I'll be fine." Cassie nodded, "I can… I can handle Mark."
"Here's hoping." Karen nodded to her.
"There might be one tiny problem." Cassie said as Karen stopped outside the room and looked at her.
"What?" Karen asked.
"Sean went to see him last night. Mark told him everything he knew and he said Sean was pretty mad." Cassie nodded.
"Well… I'm not surprised about that. Sean isn't doing this as a cop right now, he's… he's doing it as a husband and I can understand that. But… the best place for him to be right now is with Jude." Karen said as Cassie nodded.
"I agree." Cassie said, "I called Jude this morning just to check in with her but I got no answer." She said.
"Give her the space." Karen nodded, "This was difficult enough the first time, at this point it's just a nightmare." She shook her head angrily as Cassie nodded.
"Do you need me to get you anything?" Cassie asked politely.
"No. You go inside and set up these files for me in order. I'm going to get us coffee." Karen said, handing her the folders as Cassie nodded, watching her walk off to the coffee machine down the hall.
Cassie walked on into the room, looking over at Mark sitting at the table.
"Don't tell me she's putting you in charge of this." Mark scoffed.
"She'll be here in a minute." Cassie glared over at him, walking over to the table and sitting the folders down, taking a seat across as she set up the folders in the appropriate order for Karen to access.
"I figured she'd wanna keep you away from this." Mark said.
"She asked me to come with her." Cassie said, "And I'm gonna do what I need to do to get Jude the justice she deserves. The justice she deserved ten years ago." She said.
"Has her lunatic husband gone home yet?" Mark asked her.
"I don't know. I haven't spoken to him or seen him since yesterday." Cassie said.
"I mean, I don't blame him." Mark shrugged as Cassie glanced over at him, looking back down to the folders as Mark watched her, "How's mom life?"
"What the hell are you doing?" Cassie looked up, shaking her head with confusion, "You and I are not friends. Not even close. Just because you're speaking up about this doesn't mean we all forget what you did. To my sister, to my mom-"
"Your mom? I didn't do shit to your mom." Mark scoffed.
"You withheld information that could have gotten her saved quicker, and then you blackmailed me to get what you wanted." Cassie spat.
"Well, I needed to look out for myself and I saw my opportunity." Mark shook his head.
"You're vile." Cassie nodded, "And the sad thing is, a lot of people around here respected you, including me." She shook her head as Mark smiled a little, "You're nothing but a disappointment."
"It's fine. I'll go be a PI and make more money than I ever did in here anyway." Mark shrugged.
"Of course you will." Cassie shook her head, looking over as Karen came into the room with two coffees for them.
"Ok." Karen nodded, taking a seat next to Cassie, taking her coat off and getting comfortable, "It's gonna be a long morning." She looked over to Mark who stared at them both with dread.
Sean got home to New York that morning after getting a flight out first thing. He got into the house, walking into the living room which was quiet and empty, walking further to the kitchen where he saw Jude sitting at the table with a mountain of art work to be marked.
"Hey." Sean said as Jude looked over.
"Hi." Jude said thankfully, getting up from the chair and rushing over to him, hugging into him tightly as he hugged her back.
"I'm sorry I was gone for so long. I thought I'd be home last night but I couldn't get a flight." He said, cupping the back of her head with his hand as she hugged into him tightly.
"I'm more frightened to ask what you were doing." Jude admitted as he nodded.
"It's ok. I was just… talking with Cassie." Sean said briefly. In any other instance, he would always tell his wife the whole truth, but this was just different, "How are the girls?" He asked.
"Mirren is at school and Leela is having a nap." Jude said, "I was trying to get these art pieces marked. I'm so behind." She shook her head, pulling out of the hug and looking at the massive pile, "I tried to start it yesterday but I just… I couldn't do anything yesterday."
"I'm sorry I wasn't here. I wasn't thinking." Sean shook his head.
"It's ok." Jude said, "Just don't take off again." She frowned as he nodded.
"I won't." Sean sighed as he looked up at her.
"Did you… find anything out that you're not telling me?" She asked with an exhausted expression, "I can tell by the look on your face." She nodded as he ran his hand through his hair.
"I spoke to Mark." Sean nodded to her. She'd no doubt find out eventually so he figured it'd be better if he spoke with her about it.
"God, why?" Jude shook her head, walking over to the table and sitting down.
"Well because it seems like all this shit is coming from him." Sean shook his head, "So I paid him a visit."
"What does that mean?" Jude asked, "A paid visit like a conversation or my dad's definition of a paid visit?" She questioned.
"A conversation." Sean assured her.
"What'd he say?" Jude asked reluctantly.
"He just went into detail about how he found out." Sean nodded, "Karen was speaking to him this morning for the full run down."
"How did he find out?" Jude asked as Sean looked across at her, "I'm gonna find out eventually, you may as well tell me." She nodded.
"He said they were out one night. I'm assuming all the guys who worked for the dealership." Sean said, "Vincent was going off about your family, not in a good way, some derogatory shit was said and… it was implied that he'd seen you that night you were attacked." Sean said.
"Seen me… before? During? After?" Jude asked.
"Well… during, I think." Sean nodded, "Mark said he was spewing nasty shit about your parents too. But his biggest takeaway from it all was that he had something to do with your attack." He said as Jude nodded slowly.
"So… he was there?" Jude nodded to herself.
"Karen is talking to Mark just now, I'm assuming once she's done with him it'll be a swift move on to Vincent." Sean said.
"Why would it never have crossed my mind?" Jude questioned, "I mean, it was his house, right? How convenient is that? Why didn't I think?"
"He had an alibi. He was questioned and… it seemed legit that he didn't know anything about it." Sean shook his head.
"I don't even know what I feel anymore." Jude shook her head, "Part of me had come to peace with the fact Jackson was dead and… you know, I'd never see his face again." She said, "Now it's like the whole thing has just changed. Everything I thought happened is just different and… it brings it all back as if it just happened yesterday." Jude shook her head as Sean nodded.
"I wished Cassie just left you out of it until… until an arrest was made." Sean sighed.
"I would find out eventually." Jude shrugged, "It's not her fault. She… She's my sister and she wanted to be honest with me. I'm not mad at that." She shook her head, "Does anyone else know?"
"No, just Cassie and Theo." Sean nodded, "I crashed at your parents last night. I couldn't get a hotel. Spoke with your dad for a little bit."
"Did you tell him?" Jude raised her eyebrows.
"No… No, I think it's best we leave them in the dark for now. Unless you want to tell them." Sean said.
"Yeah, they don't need to know just now. Same with Thea." Jude nodded.
"I wish I could do something. I wish I could just make this all stop for you." Sean shook his head as Jude looked over at him, "I fucking hate what they did to you. And leaving that memory with you." He shook his head as Jude looked at him.
"They." She whispered to herself. It was the first she'd heard the plural version.
"What do you think of that one?" AJ asked, sitting at the kitchen table with her husband, a box of chocolates sitting on the table between them.
"It's ok, not as good as that one, though." Punk pointed as AJ nodded in agreement, "So how come you got the job of deciding which chocolate is the best? I thought you worked in fashion." He scoffed as she chuckled.
"I do." AJ smiled, "It's for Lucy, my assistant. You know she's always baking things and sending us gift baskets."
"She's a sweet girl." Punk nodded.
"Well she really wants to start her own little business and I think it'd be great." AJ said, "She talks to me about all her ideas, it's great. So she asked me to sample these chocolates and tell her which ones were our favourite." AJ smiled.
"So we all win." Punk chuckled as AJ nodded, "This one is nice." Punk nodded, looking at the details to the chocolate he was eating, "Orange flavoured."
"Fancy." AJ nodded, "My favourite so far is the nutty one." She said, scribbling down her favourites on a piece of paper. She never minded helping out her work friends, especially when she got to taste some tasty treats.
"If she wants to start her own business why is she running around after you making coffee?" Punk scoffed.
"That's not all she does for me." AJ tutted, "She helps me with emails and calls, sets up my meetings. I'd be totally lost without her."
"So that's why she's still there. You're keeping her hostage." Punk smiled.
"Maybe." AJ teased, "I guess she needs a steady job to pay her bills, maybe it's something she can introduce on the side and build on it into something full-time." She shrugged, extending another chocolate over to him as he took a bite, making a funny face at her.
"Don't like that one." Punk shook his head with disgust, "It's like… watery inside." He groaned as AJ chuckled, listening as there was a knock on their door.
"Go see who that is." AJ nodded, "One of our children maybe, haven't seen them both in a few days." She said as Punk nodded, walking down the hallway.
He got the door, opening it up where he saw his brother standing, turning around and holding a baseball bat in his hand as Punk raised a brow.
"What the fuck are you doing?" Punk questioned, alarmed by his brother's facial expressions.
"I need your help." Dean nodded.
