The Latina's heart had skipped a beat when she had reached the hospital. Her icy hands had been shaking ever since Bailey had told her the amazing news, and the nervousness inside her had made it hard to stay calm in front of her daughter. The young woman had dropped Sofia off at Meredith's place earlier and had left to go to the hospital afterwards. Callie had been excited to see her beautiful wife waking up, but a part of her had felt scared and nervous about the moment she would finally open her eyes. The chances of developing any side effects or issues had been little, but knowing there was a slight chance had already been enough for Callie to worry about Arizona. Stepping into the hospital had felt different this time. It was a hopeful and almost reassuring kind of feeling compared to the first time she had walked in after finding out about her wife's terrible condition. The tingles inside the brunette's belly had returned with full force when she had reached the ICU and spotted Bailey putting on her scrubs and mask.

"Hey, I'm here!" Callie said with a bright smile on her face.

Bailey smiled back at her and could see the excitement in her brown and beautiful eyes. "Hey, you're just on time. Let's get you ready."

The two women had gotten ready together and before Callie could open the door to the blonde's room, Bailey had reached out for her hand and stopped her. "Callie…"

"What? Why aren't we going in?" Callie asked, confused as to why the Chief had held her back.

"We are going in, but you have to be prepared for her possibly facing complications, okay?"

"I know, but can we please go in now?" the Latina asked desperately and when the Chief had nodded, she opened the door.

The nervous tingles in the brunette's lower stomach had increased as she stepped into the room with Dr. Bailey next to her and suddenly, it had become harder to breathe. Arizona had still been in the same position as the days before, but thankfully, she had looked a little better. The Chief had stopped next to the blonde and checked the monitors before looking at Callie. "We have slowly reduced the amount of Propofol over the last two days and now I'm about to remove the infusion that provides her with the medication, okay?"

"Okay. How long do you think it'll take for her to wake up?" the Latina asked as she watched the doctor remove the infusion from the blonde's hand.

"She might wake up in a few minutes from now, but it could also take a few hours."

"Alright, thank you." Callie smiled.

"I'll leave the two of you alone now. Let me know when she wakes up." Bailey said and left the room to give the two women a little bit of privacy.

"Honey, I'm here. I can't wait for you to open those beautiful eyes of yours." the Latina whispered and stroked the blonde's hand softly.

-

Four hours later, Callie had woken up from a nap and stretched her arms and back after having fallen asleep in a hard and uncomfortable chair. Her beautiful hair had looked a little messy and her sleepy eyes had barely opened when a soft voice echoed in the room.

"You look beautiful when you sleep."

Callie froze. She had recognized the sweet voice in a heartbeat, and for a moment she had thought she was dreaming. The Latina opened her eyes softly and as soon as brown eyes met ocean eyes, a wave of relief and happiness washed over Callie.

"Arizona!" Callie said loudly and couldn't believe her eyes.

"You're here." Arizona said softly with teary eyes.

"Of course I am. I can't believe you're awake." Callie whispered as tears streamed down her face.

"Wha...what happened?" Arizona stuttered.

"Sweetheart, you...you've been exposed to the virus. God, I was so scared you wouldn't wake up again." Callie said and couldn't help but cry.

Arizona had swallowed hard. She had woken up a few minutes before the Latina had and had immediately noticed her mask and scrubs, but she hadn't expected to be infected with the dangerous virus. The beautiful blonde had remembered how terrible she had felt before everything around her had turned black and how suddenly, it had become so hard to breathe. Heavy tears had escaped her ocean eyes when she realized how badly all of this could have ended and how much her wife and daughter must have suffered.

"Hey, hey, hey, baby, don't cry. You're going to be alright, okay?" Callie tried to comfort her.

"I...I can't believe this happened." Arizona sobbed. "How long have I been sleeping for?"

"A week. Bailey has taken good care of you and I got there as soon as possible." the brunette explained.

"But...what about your job?" the blonde asked.

"Honey, my job is here. I left the team to be with you."

An overwhelming feeling of guilt washed over Arizona and left her gasping for air.

"Shhh, baby, calm down. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else." Callie said softly.

"You left your...your job because of...me. Your d-dream job."

"And I'd do it a thousand times again. You're my home and my best friend, and there's nowhere I would rather want to be than with you. I'm so sorry for everything you had to go through." Callie said as her voice broke.

Arizona smiled sweetly at her wife. "I...I love you."

"I love you too. More than words can say."

-

Bailey and a few other doctors from the hospital had checked on the blonde a few minutes after she had woken up from the coma and made sure she wasn't experiencing any complications. Arizona had shown signs of weakness and tiredness, but that had not surprised the doctors since she was still fighting against the disease. Her symptoms had gotten better and the fewer had disappeared, but her lungs had needed more time to heal and return back to normal. When the doctors had left the room, Arizona had insisted on calling their daughter Sofia before she would go to sleep again. The blonde had felt terrible for having left her sweet girl like that and needed to call her desperately to apologize and tell her she was fine.

"Mama?" Sofia asked when she picked up the phone.

"Honey, it's mommy." Arizona said softly.

"Mommy!!" Sofia screamed and caused the blonde to smile happily.

"How are you, sweetheart? I've missed you."

"I'm good, mommy, but how...how are you?" the little girl asked.

"I'm better, baby. I'm so sorry for suddenly being gone. Please forgive me."

"Mommy, why are you sorry? It's not your fault."

"I'm sorry because I couldn't say goodbye and you had to be without me, sweetheart."

"I played with Zola and Meredith and mama cooked for me. I had a great time." Sofia explained.

"I'm happy to hear that, baby. I have to go now, but we will talk soon, okay? I love you, sweet girl." Arizona said and felt herself being really exhausted.

"I love you too, mommy. Sleep well."

"You too, Sofia."

Callie had watched the blonde talking to their daughter and her heart warmed at the sight of how happy her wife had gotten when Sofia had picked up the phone. The Latina had known there was no reason for Arizona to be sorry, but she understood why she had felt that way. At the end of their phone call, Callie had noticed the sudden weakness in Arizona's voice and when she had hung up, the blonde sighed loudly.

"I don't know why I'm so tired."

"Honey, you just came out of a one week coma, of course you're tired. You rest, okay?" Callie said and stroked her softly.

"O-okay." Arizona tried to say but fell asleep at the same moment. Arizona had looked so incredibly cute and beautiful even though she had just woken up from a coma and Callie admired her for that.

-

After the blonde had fallen asleep, Callie decided to go to the cafeteria to grab a coffee and a bite to eat. She hadn't eaten in a long time and needed something to get her through the rest of the evening before she would head back home. The Latina had talked to a few doctors, including Alex Karev and after eating and a deep conversation with him, the brunette headed back upstairs to go to her wife. Callie was just about to put her scrubs back on when she heard loud and heart wrenching screams coming out of her wife's room.

Her heart dropped.
