-Chapter 10-
As days passed and it turned into months, Huey and Sarah continued their affair in secret, it was the only thing they had in common with one another. Whenever Tom would leave work, it became the perfect opportunity for the housewife to get a quickie in while caring for the home. Sometimes they would spend nights together when given the opportunity and Huey was relieved that nobody would dare suspect a thing, the last thing he wanted to hear was Riley getting into his business. The smoky scent became more accustomed to his everyday life like it was nothing, it didn't bother him at all. Their encounters were nothing but passion and primal lust, Sarah was especially pleased that this young, handsome man would pleasure her while the husband was away. This even made it even more exciting sneaking around, considering that they were neighbors.
Not only was Huey spending time with the sexy housewife across the street, but he would spend his days lounging around with a lot of free time. This didn't go unnoticed by his old-school Granddad, who looked at his eldest grandson with disapproval. He entered Huey's room while the young man was reading a book on the bed.
"Boy, what the hell are you doing?" Granddad asked.
"Just reading a book, Granddad." Huey replied casually. The elderly man shook his head, worried for the young man's future and motivation.
"Have you even decided on Graduate school? Or even getting a job?" Grandad questioned sternly. "Were those four years of college all for nothing? Did I throw that party just so your ass can be lazy?! So you could turn into your brother?!"
Huey sighed, he did have a point. If he was honest with himself, he knew that he wasn't thinking about the future at all. "I get it, Granddad." he replied.
"Look, boy…" Granddad paused, trying to figure out his words. "I understand that a young man needs to relax after working hard and studying and I have no doubt that you'll do outstanding things..but you gotta start somewhere and get off your ass! Shoot...I may have to start chargin' you two rent, that's how we did it back in the day!" he added before leaving.
"Oh and the Dubois are here for dinner!" Granddad announced, nearly forgetting that important detail. Huey groaned, putting his book down. It was gonna be awkward seeing both Tom and Sarah, the woman he was secretly fucking behind the attroney's back both together. Ever since he and Jazmine left for their respective colleges, it was like the families stopped having dinners with each other. Huey figured that they must want to rekindle that special bond, especially since news got out that Jazmine was coming soon.
Huey wondered, maybe he should start thinking about the future.
He headed downstairs to the kitchen while the spicy and savory aroma of gumbo filled the young man's nostrils. It was clear they were having a New Orleans themed dinner and Granddad was kind enough to make Huey a vegetarian option.
Along with Granddad and Riley, Huey saw both Tom and Sarah. Tom instantly smiled, greeting the younger man. "Hey there, Huey! How are you? How's the relaxation?"
"Hey Mr. Dubois, it's-"
"Told him he needs to decide on graduate school or a JOB." Granddad interrupted, feeling annoyed.
"Now Robert, you really shouldn't pressure Huey. It is a big decision that I'm sure he'll find something that suits him." Tom said, trying to give his opinion.
"Well the nigga has to think faster!" Robert argued. As the two men discussed Huey's future, the revolutionary made eye contact with Sarah. It felt strange that he was facing her with her husband in the same room, now it almost was like they were strangers, at least to the public eye. Poor Tom was also very oblivious to their affair.
"You know Huey, Jazmine is coming this weekend." Tom informed the young man. "You two should really call and make plans, I think it'll take the edge off. Plus I'm sure she'll be really happy to see you."
"I'll keep that in mind, Mr. Dubois." Huey replied, averting his eyes from Sarah.
"Huey, say hello to Mrs. Dubois!" Granddad instructed. "I know I taught you better than that!"
Huey looked back at the housewife with a neutral expression. He could feel some guilt eating him up, but he kept his cool. "Hello Mrs. Dubois." said Huey.
Sarah gave a small smile, pretending that nothing was going on between them. "Hello, Huey."
"So you're smashing Jazzy's mom huh?" said a young man known as Michael Caesar with a smirk. "So that must make you a...motherfucker?"
Huey rolled his eyes at his friend's joke. "This ain't funny, man." he replied, annoyed. He wondered if he should have told him about the affair. The friends sat on the hill that they used when they were kids, overlooking the houses and streets. It was a place Huey used to get away from the adults when he was a boy, whether it be reading or talking to his friends about whatever topics come up. He missed this place when he was in college, it was one of the only few small things he liked about Woodcrest. Of course he won't admit it.
Michael Caesar or just Caesar by his friends was Huey's best friend who was about Huey's height, maybe slightly shorter, had slightly darker skin than Huey's, and wore his hair in dreads. Like Huey, he had moved to Woodcrest when he was about ten years old, however he was from Brooklyn and liked to remind people every now and then. He is of African American and Jamaican from his dad's side, as his dad even owned a Jamaican restaurant in Woodcrest.
Like Huey, he shared a lot of the same views and hobbies, but he was more comical and positive, which contrasts to the cynical and sarcastic Huey. Deep down, the revolutionary was pretty ecstatic when he saw another black kid in Woodcrest and they became birds of a feather. Now they were still best friends as young men.
"Same old Huey…" Caesar stated, cracking a chuckle. "So what are you gonna do, man? I know Jazmine's coming and they want you to hang with her. I mean..I think you know what to do, but I know it'll take a lot in ya to do it. Maybe even get down to what's going on with her mom."
"I mean I guess…" Huey replied, giving it thought. He knew what was the right thing to do, but he wasn't sure if he was even ready.
Caesar shrugged. "Well before he got arrested for arson, my Uncle Larry always told me that the truth will always prevail." he stated, checking his watch. Huey arched his eyebrow at the first half of that statement.
"Aw damn, I have to get to my shift in fifteen." Caesar added, knowing the consequences if he didn't arrive. Caesar's father and boss was a laid back friendly guy, much like his son, but a Jamaican dad wasn't one to trifle with.
"Whatever happened to 'Jamaican time'?" Huey remarked sarcastically.
"Yeah not when it comes to pops and his business." Caesar replied, standing up.
"Sorry, man." Huey apologized, standing up from the grass. "I should get home too and thanks for the advice."
Caesar smirked, giving him a thumbs up. "I ain't judging ya, brother. Besides, you've seen the ass on her. I don't blame ya." he commented. Huey rolled his eyes, he was starting to sound like Riley. However Huey knew that he was right about coming clean, but there was going to be a lot of anger and sadness, even broken relationships were possible. He didn't want that, but he knew it was too late, however he needed time.
"Maybe I'm just a coward..." Huey commented mentally as he headed home while the sun slowly set for the night.
As days passed, Huey found himself once again in bed Sarah Dubois both naked and sweaty from their heated session. They were at the Dubois home while Tom was at work again. They were in the bedroom this time with the lights slightly dimmed. After recovering, Sarah was about to reach for a cigarette but remembered they were inside the house, it would be difficult to get rid of the scent. She leaned back onto Huey's chest, smiling as she trailed a finger down his upper body.
"So...how about another round?" Sarah asked seductively. She loved the stamina he had. However Huey carefully removed her finger, much to her disappointment.
"Look Mrs. Dubois, why don't we just talk?" Huey replied, turning on the lights completely. He couldn't believe he was doing this either.
Sarah arched an eyebrow, this wasn't like Huey Freeman. "Talk? What for?" she asked.
"Just about yourself." the revolutionary replied. "I mean I've known your daughter for so long and me and you have been doing this for a while, yet I don't know anything about you."
Sarah faced away from the young man, feeling a bit uncomfortable and even more so confused. She wondered what kind of game he was playing with her. "Well...what's there to know? What exactly do you want to talk about? Your college experiences?"
"As much as I want to bore you with my college experiences, I'd prefer we'd talk about yourself." the revolutionary remarked. "What did you do today?"
Sarah sighed and began to recall the details of her morning leading up to the present. "Well...I woke up, made my husband some breakfast-"
"There! Right there! Your husband!" Huey interrupted. "That's something we could talk about."
"Why would I wanna talk about Tom at this time?" Sarah asked.
"Well, I'm curious. What do you tell him when you leave the house all the time?" Huey asked.
"Depends, sometimes nothing when he's asleep."
"You don't think he'll notice?"
"We sleep in separate bedrooms now, Huey." Sarah bitterly replied. "The one we're in right now is mine."
"So you two don't-" Huey paused. "I know this is none of my business."
"No it's alright, Tom already made it your business when he'd go to your house every month." Sarah half heartedly joked.
"You just don't seem happy with him." Huey replied, looking back at the housewife. "I mean, you seemed two seemed happy at times, unless it was a front. I'm sure there was a spark somewhere."
"Maybe there was." Sarah remarked sarcastically, prepared to get up. However Huey grabbed her arm before she could leave.
"Mrs. Dubois, I said we were gonna talk." Huey stated, however Sarah snatched her arm away.
"Shut up! Why the hell do you wanna talk about my marriage anyways?!" Sarah shouted.
"Damn, not so loud!" Huey hushed her. "Remember I'm not exactly your husband and everyone else knows that too." Sarah took a deep breath to regulate her mood before joining Huey in bed again. This wasn't something that Sarah had opened up about to anyone so she felt strange talking about it. She knew she was wrong and was very aware of it, but like all addictions, they catch up to you and take a hold on your life.
"So...what would you like to know?" Sarah asked.
"Am I the first guy you've done this with?" Huey asked.
Sarah shook her head. "I've had a string of them before you." she replied.
"Well damn." he remarked, not expecting that answer.
"Are you shaming me, Huey Freeman?" Sarah asked, crossing her arms. "I'm sure I wasn't your first, Mr. College Graduate."
Huey leaned back on his pillow. "No, I'm not shaming you. I've had a few myself and one girlfriend in college, but that's in the past." he recalled. "But anyways, this is about you. So here's my second question…"
Sarah turned away from him. "What is it?"
"Why did you decide to marry Tom?"
To be continued…
