Karlito ran until Luna was way out of sight. He ran some more. And more. He ran his full speed, not pausing to get a gasp of air. Harry was right behind him, mumbling about cowardice. Karlito wasn't scared of Dumbledore, or anyone for that matter. He didn't care about that. He was scared for Luna. No offense to her, but what could she do if Karlito failed miserably?
Karlito had to be strong for Luna, so he lifted Hermione's limp body in his arms and jetted away. Harry ran hard to catch up. Karlito stopped by a tree and sat Hermione down. He knew they were too deep into the forest. But, it didn't look like the Forbidden Forest in the storied Hermione told. Speaking of her, she was out cold. Fear did that to a person.
Karlito slapped her face a couple of times, and she woke up. She looked around groggily. "How did I get here...? Where's Luna...?" "I carried you, and Luna...
she's fighting Dumbledore." Everything seemed to come back to Hermione. Her hopped up and scanned the surroundings. She took out her Time Turner. Her face suddenly turned ugly and mad. Use threw down the Turner and started to stomp it. Karlito let her take out her anger. After a few minutes, he grabbed her arm. Tears were leaking down her eyes. Whether she was crying because of Luna, Harry's parents and predicament, or the shitty lifestyle they were presiding, or maybe all three, Karlito didn't know.
He enveloped her into a hug, and let all the tears stain his jacket. Wasn't like it was new anyway. Hermione regained her composure and sat down. "At anytime, he could've killed us in our mission, or even earlier on, right after he gave me the Time Turner. Why did he spare us and let Sirius escape? Why?" Karlito knew how she felt. Dumbledore had made playthings out of them, then threw them away after they didn't entertain him anymore. Karlito felt like a huge part of this was mainly his fault.
"Don't make that face." "The hell are you on about, Harry?" "Don't make that face that suggest all of this is in you. You were right about this, and we didn't listen. I was chasing Sirius, not worried about my friends, the people who go through hell for me. I'm sorry, guys." Karlito sighed. "You say this now, after Luna is risking her life for you. Maybe you should've said this earlier." Instead of getting angry, Harry nodded. "Yeah, you're most definitely right."
Karlito frowned. "Where do we go from here? We passed out third year, but what makes you thing they'll want us back for our fourth? We don't know what happened to Pettigrew, but seeing the condition Ron is in, let's assume he escaped. Hermione?" She looked up. "Ron was brave. He tried to battle him, but Pettigrew broke Ron's leg with a clever ploy and got away. Remus tired to give chase, but no luck."
Harry stomped his foot in the ground. "Shit! Isn't dying nearly enough?" "Chill out. Where is Remus now?" "He's posing under the cover of a teacher again. They believed whole heatedly that Sirius put him under a spell and staged the body. Remus was in the crowd, faking anger at us. But, there was something he wanted to mention to us. Here's the note." Hermione put the note up, and Karlito grabbed it.
Dear Harry, Hermione, and Karlito.
You are not the only ones that suspect Dumbledore of foul play. As of last night, he was ruled out of Hogwarts and evicted as the Headmaster.
"That's good news, right?" "Yeah, and I think that why he made his move. You think that the teachers were only pretending to back him?" "Let's see."
There is a group called The Anti-Dumbledore Association. To him, we are called the Order of The Phoenix. There are six of us from the Order of the Phoenix that knew Dumbledore was shady. So, we made a group. It is I, Sirius, Flitwick, Trawnley, James, and Lily. Two of our members were killed by Voldemort, that is true. But how did Voldemort target your parents specifically? Why? We dug and saw that...I shall not tell you this in fear you may yell out in fury. I will tell you the details next time we see each other.
More so, we want to invite you three and your trusted comrades to this facility and n the hopes you could benefit us.
PS, we only backed Dumbledore as to not fall suspect. The Order of The Phoenix is still in place, so don't blabber. Dumbledore has taken a position with my he Ministry, right under the Minister of Magic. We don't know his plan, so keep an eye out.
Burn this letter.
Lupin.
Karlito burned the letter until there was no more. Harry looked at them, and you could see venom running in his eyes. "Do you think Dumbledore got my parents killed?" Hermione stood. "We don't know, and it's no good to speculate. I think he did." "Hermione's right. I think we need to make a decision. Luna's not going to die, especially against a scum ball like Dumbledore. So, how about we split up?"
Harry grimaced. "I've seen a lot of chaps did that way in the movies." "This is real life, Harry, and we're trained wizards. We've fended off Dementors that beat up on the greatest wizards. We have to do this." Karlito looked at Harry. "You need to stay low. How about...go track up Lupin and consult him on what we should do. Don't get caught." Karlito looked at Hermione. "The fighting between Luna and Albus has ceased. Find her, and try to heal her the best you can." "Why don't you go?" "She's a lady, and she might be hurt near lady parts." "Ok. And what will you do?" "I'll infiltrate the school, and try to rally up anyone I think will help us. I'll get Ron first. Then Ginny, Terry, and so on."
Karlito put his hand in the middle, and he was followed by Hermione, then Harry. "One three. One, two, three... Operation Christmas!" "Why?" "I dunno, Christmas was fun for me."
Karlito ducked through the trees and over a shrub. He didn't know how he was going to pull this off, but he was going to give it his all. He speed his way under the tunnels from the map Harry had. He didn't want to lose it, so he rolled it back up.
Harry said that George gave him this map. Would George and Fred be willing to help? I can only hope. Karlito went into another tunnel and jumped through countless obstacles. He came up a stairway into the school. Good, he was right beside the hospital. The map was flawless in leading him. Karlito slouched down all the way and crawled to the bed Ron was in. The boy was awake. He touched his hand. "Ron...Ron..." Ron looked down and nearly screamed. Karlito looked kinda like a cat, crouching and waiting in the shadows, for an opportunity or opening.
"Hey, Ron." "What in the bloody hell..." "No time to talk." "Why?" "Are you healed?" "Yes." "Well, let's go." "Where?" "I'll tell you while we are on the way." "Ok." Karlito thought Ron would be more defensive, but even blind mice could sense danger when it was approaching.
And a rainstorm of danger was approaching.
Karlito led Ron all throughout the tunnels to the Gryffindor common room. They could've been there twenty minutes earlier, but Karlito wanted to shake the feeling of uncertainty. They arrived right under Ron's bed. They rolled under. The time was 3:15, and people were just entering their last period. Karlito needed to find a place to hide for now.
"Ron, where do you know a place were I could hide? This path was used to get people from here to the spot." "Well, I do know a place..." "Show me the way!" Ron hopped in the hole, followed by Karlito.
Karlito and Ron came up in the Room of Requirements. Karlito didn't know how the boy knew of the room. "Well, George and Fred kinda told me about it if I needed a place to run or something. It was just an accident." That sounded like a lie, but Karlito had some secrets of his own, some he was sure we're bigger than Ron's.
Ron went back into the hole just as it was time for people to get out of class. He would definitely make it back before they entered the dorm room.
Karlito sat down for a bit and wondered what would the school buzz be about. A undercover Ravenclaw helping to treacherous Gryffindor students overthrow the school? Maybe. Karlito needed a way to know what was happening with Harry and Hermione. If the rumors were true...
Karlito thought really hard. I need a mirror, to see what everyone else is doing. In a split second, a mirror appearing behind Karlito. It was half his size. Karlito picked it up and spoke. "Let me see Harry." The mirror swirled and swirled until it finally stopped. There was Harry, talking to Remus Lupin. They were in his office, and Harry was explaining the situation to him, while Lupin checked for intruders. Karlito thought Harry was in a safe spot. Not many people can beat Lupin.
Karlito shook the glass again. Now, Hermione. The glass swirled a little bit longer, then a scene appeared. A forest surrounded the people, and a dark shadow cast over them. Karlito wanted to see more. Closer. The mirror zoomed in. Hermione and Luna were running from a beast. Hermione used a silent spell and it hit the beast. It stopped chasing them, and Hermione put Luna down. Luna herself was in good condition. She talked to Hermione. "We have to find Karlito."
Karlito was just thinking about going to then through the tunnels. Did they stretch out far enough? He had to try, at least.
The mirror shrank until it was a small shard of glass surrounded by a clear globe. Karlito put it in his pocket. He didn't know how this was going to turn out, but he did know that he couldn't lose. Not even a little bit.
Karlito trekked in the Room of Requirements, practicing spells, reading novels, or watching people on the mirror. Karlito even summoned a TV, but there was no cable. He played wizarding chess with a ferret that was actually pretty good. Karlito loss as many times as he won.
Karlito felt like a jerk. All his friends were out there, risking their lives, while he sat in an underground room. Karlito felt like a joke. He promised himself that he would do whatever he could when the time was right. For now, he had to be strong.
The last time he checked the mirror, Hermione and Luna were at the school, Ron was silently recruiting people, and Harry and Lupin had just finished talking. Lupin and Harry were going to recruit teachers. Ron had only had luck with a few Gryffindor students, including Fred and George. What would the jokesters have up their sleeves?
Karlito was counting down the time until he would graduate. Three days, four hours, and three minutes. Karlito wasn't sure he'd graduate. Ron was the only student in the operation still at Hogwarts officially. And even he was suspecting.
A knock at the door. Karlito opened it. "Ron?" "Yes, with Ginny, Harry, Fred, and George." Karlito opened the door. They all climbed up. "What's the news?" Harry smiled. "The twins have a nice surprise for Dumbledore and gang."
