After falling into a deep sleep as the Blood Moon was rising, Link did not expect to end up in the most, awkward-looking place in the universe. He found himself standing on a group of large clouds in the night sky, in front of two massive golden gates.
What the heck just happened?
Did a monster sneak in and stab him in the heart while he was asleep?
Link knew one truth, his existance was not over yet and this was definitely just a dream.
At least he was armed with his sword and shield, he needed those weapons just in case. This was obviously a dream, a spooky dream. Maybe it was just a vision, if it was a vision, someone wanted to speak with him.
If somebody WANTED to speak with him, who could it be? Ok, Link thought, knowing he was nervous, Just relax. "ARE YOU THE ONE CALLED LINK?"
An unknown disembodied male voice spoke, "NOBLE HERO OF HYRULE, THE ONE WHO BEAT GANON?" Link nodded, "Uh, yeah."
"YOU MAY ENTER THROUGH THE GATES!" The voice beckoned as the gate slowly opened, "SOMEONE WISHES TO SPEAK WITH YOU, WELCOME TO THE OVERWORLD, THE GREAT CLOUD IN THE SKY. WE MEAN YOU NO HARM!."
Link nodded, "Many thanks, Mysterious Disembodied Voice. I shall continue on my way and talk with… well, whoever wants to talk to me. Maybe you're the one who wants to, calling me to enter through the gates."
Link walked forward, through the open gates and onto the otherside. The clouds he stood upon seemed to stretch miles and miles as far as the eye could see, forming an unknown, white and puffy terrain.
Behind Link, the gate seemed to dissappear, replaced by a black cloudy wall. This is a dream, the hero thought, anything can happen in dreams. Impossible things can be a real possibility.
Mist descended and the area became foggy and obscure, nobody seemed to appear, thus Link was alone and all by himself on his journey among the clouds.
While he felt a sense of warmth on the world below, Link almost felt chilly up here. Maybe it was due to the fact that it was a cloudy night and it would be a while before daytime arrived, until then, the only source of light was the stars and the moon.
Least it wasn't a Blood Moon, Link could probably assume that, in the real world, the Blood Moon's power had soon diminished and the moon had gone back to normal by now.
As the hero continued walking along the cloudy path, the destiny of the world below upon his shoulders even more, shapes began to form around him, turning into people. Link could see the almost-misty ghost of Goron warrior Daruk, the ghost of Mipha the Zora princess and Rito Warrior Ravali's spirit.
Urbosa was among the throng of spirits of fallen heroes and Hylians who'd been trying to live day to day lives when the Great Calamity struck. For one minute, Link caught sight of King Rhoam B. Hyrule's spirit, wearing blue robes.
So many faces appearing for a short time to welcome or see the Hero of the Wild on his journey across the Overworld, Link recognized very few, half the spirits here were from ages long past so they were nearly impossible to recognize completely at all.
He could smell a meal cooking from far away, someone probably having a barbacue. Link could even hear distant voices speaking, whispering amongst themselves, saying things in an ancient unknown Hylian language.
While English was the current Hylian language, there had been many languages like Japanese or, well, who knew what other languages Hyrule had spoken, hundreds of thousands of times during the early days of the land.
The soft and puffy layer of cloudy ground started to quickly change beneath Link's feet as he journeyed further and further across the Overworld, he could feel a puddle of water under his boots.
Link could see more than just clouds, seeing trees and grass up ahead, along with sunflowers and a large building, made from stone and marble.
"Link. LINK!" A voice beckoned from far away,"Come to me, come further. Come, come. Follow my voice."
Not the mystery speaker from before, Link thought to himself, shrugging a few ridiculous ideas, The previous voice sounded, well, like an almighty spirit and this voice sounds, well, almost like me. Could it be...? Nah, this is some sort of feaver dream after eating fish and meat today. Again, this feels very real, regardless if I haven't kicked over the can yet.
Crunch-crunch-crunch, pat-pat-pat. Link walked over the line between the watery clouds and onto the grassy plane, his feet crushing a few sunflowers as he walked along slowly, his leather boots kicking up dirt and dust.
Yes, there was more than grass, there was dirt too. The sky finally shifted from starry night to cloudy day, the sun rising high.
Getting closer and closer, Link could see the large building getting larger and larger, finally seeing it almost reminded him of the Temple of Time from the Great Plataeu.
Standing on the steps of the temple stood a figure, a halo over its head. Even from a distance now being closed, Link could make out the appearance; Blonde, blue eyed, youthful and skinny wearing a green tunic and white tights as well as brown boots and gloves, equipped with a belt and a small sword, complete with sheath, and red shield.
Just who is this person? Link thought, He almost looks so… familiar. Like, could this person actually be none other than... One of my past selves?
"Step forward, brave hero of the Great Calamity and the Wild Era." The young man beckoned, Link immedietly recognized the voice, it was the same one who'd told him to follow HIS voice.
Putting one and two together, Link realized... The unknown second speaker, the man standing in front of the temple, were one and the same.
But who was the mysterious first speaker? Some sort of immortal king lourd or something?
Answers awaited, nothing would remain a mystery forever and Link would be satisfied to understand what was going on at all.
"You may halt."
Link stopped walking once he was close enough to the temple, about a meter away from the steps at arms length, the ghostly youth atop the steps smiled and walked down the steps towards him. "Just who are you?" The hero asked."
"I am one of your past incarnations..."
"Whaddaya mean?"
"You don't fully understand, Link? I am you, Link, Hylia's Chosen Hero?"
Link took two steps back as the other "Link" took a step forward down the stairs of the temple and stopped, "Really, you're me, am I dreaming?"
The ghost of Hylia's Chosen Hero nodded, "I am you and, yes, this is the dream. I have come to speak with you, just as my beloved Zelda has spoken with your beloved Zelda."
Link rolled his eyes, I thought this was bogus, "What do you want?"
Ghost Link chuckled, "Oh, Hero of the Wild Era Hyrule Post-Calamity, having difficulties understanding what is going on right now, are you?"
"Maybe a little bit. I know something ancient and remotely villainous is returning after thousands and thousands of years, I've been having dreams about that evil monster who turns out to be none other than Demise,."
"Well, at least you know why I'm here, I've come to warn you, maybe give you some helpful advice. After I defeated Demise in life, his remnants were sealed into the Master Sword where they would decay, eventually he would reincarnate into Ganon.
"But it seems we underestimated Demise, a piece of his very soul survived beyond defeat and, throughout the years, Demise has watched Hyrule suffer many attacks from villains, only observing from a distance.
"But in recent years, after the many returns and defeats of Ganon as well as the pulling of the Master Sword so many times, Demise's power started to grow again and he began plotting his return to power and full strength.
"When Ganon became the monstrous abomination known as Calamity Ganon, Demise began drawing from the calamity's great power and, well, played a part in cursing the moon itself into becoming the Blood Moon once every couple of weeks.
"After Ganon's recent defeat by your hand and after so many Blood Moons, Demise has reached full power again and has returned himself to life fully without having to reincarnate as someone else.
"Even worse, his servant Ghirahim has been ressurected thanks to the power of the Blood Moon itself. Demise and Ghirahim have been on the loose for weeks now, tonight, Demise has been reborn and Ghirahim has become more powerful than ever before."
"So whats gonna happen?" BoTW Link asked, "Is Demise going to attack now?"
"No. Not yet!" SS Link raised his hand for silence, "Demise with gather his forces and much more strength, once the time has come, that is when he will unleash his full-out apocolyptic attack on Hyrule.
"You and Zelda must be more prepared. If you fail, the world will be shrouded in darkness forever and Demise will rule. Should you stop him before its too late, Hyrule may be saved. Should there be massive devestation, be prepared for more rebuilding."
"How do you know what's going to possibly happen in the near future?"
"You will figure it ouy in full time, Link, you probably know by now."
"Kass and his songs?"
"Maybe."
Current Link yawned and blinked, "Y'know, I think its time to part ways. Thank you for the warning about Demise and what is to come."
"WAIT!" Skyloft Link cried, "I haven't given you a piece of advice yet."
"What is it?"
"Do not underestimate Demise or get overconfident. When in need, it is good to fall back and rely on friends. You will have allies in the fight, one of them is an unexpected ally. What if I told you that a young man is defected from the Yiga Tribe and is searching for you?"
"WHAT? YOU'RE KIDDING ME!"
"No seriously. Its true, I am not making this up."
"Hey, past me. How can I trust the Yiga, what if this is a trick or a trap and the Yiga are trying to lay a trap for me?"
"Lets move on…"Skyloft Link grunted. I ponder what Zel's up to on her side of dream land. Current Link thought, rolling his eyes with irritation.
—
When Princess Zelda found herself in the Overworld within her dreams, she was completely confused at first and, like her boy friend, had no idea what was going on or what else to expect.
But unlike Link, it did not start out with her standing in front of the gates, the dream started out with her in a grassy field surrounded by clouds, near a crystal-clear blue lake.
Instead of wearing her shorts and revealing tank top, she was wearing her white, strapless dress she'd worn during the Great Calamity and the immediate aftermath of Ganon's fall.
"We meet again, noble princess of a great and prospering kingdom."
"Wha...? It bloody well couldn't be!"
"It 'ruddy well' absolutely is, Zelda."
The ghost of Princess Zelda's Skyloft Era ancestor was standing before her, wearing a blue, sleeveless dress with white linings surrounding the skirt/bottom of the dress, surrounded by a green ghostly aurora.
"Well. Hullo again, me." Present Zelda waved sheepishly.
"Hullo again me," Past Zelda replied, "I told you we would talk again very soon and, now, I think it is time to talk once again. A great darkness now looms above Hyrule, stronger than it was before. He is back…"
"He who?"
"Demise has been ressurected."
Current Zelda's heart began to pound slowly as fear descended over her, goose bumps began to creep up her skin as cold chills washed up her back.
"Oh dear!" She breathed, "The original King of Darkness is back, not good. How could this be possible? Oh my giddy aunt, how? Does Ganon's defeat have something to do with all of it?"
Skyloft Zelda had to explain everything to Post-GC Zelda the way Skyloft Link explained to Post-GC Lnk about the ressurection of Demise, from the surviving spirit piece to Ganon and the Blood Moon's power.
"Oh brilliant." Current Zelda rolled her eyes, "I suppose Ghirahim's here too?"
"Yup, he's also back." Skyloft Zelda nodded.
"It's the end of the world!"
"Not unless you and Link stop them, yes it will be."
"How? Demise is stronger than before. Ghirahim? He's more powerful than he was the last time he walked the world."
"They're not all invincible, they can be beaten."
"Hopefully, Blood Moon night won't ruin everything."
"You mean in the aftermath, Demise will not be ressurected again, not for a very long time, Zelda. The only villains Hyrule will have to worry about are monsters from the dark world and Ganon, when he breaks free again, as well as many new foes who have yet to be fought in the years to come."
"Gee, that's encouraging and comforting!"
"Do not fret, there will always be times of peace and cooling down before the next villain or old enemy comes to attack the world and try to ruin everything."
"Good point!" Zelda sighed a sigh of relief, "You make a good point, past me." she'd nearly forgotten all about the fact that after major villains were defeated. The only thing she could hope for was that, this time, the Second Great Calamity ended with the bad guys being defeated and no heroes falling mortaly wounded.
Zelda could not bare the thought of herself and Link in the Shrine of Ressurection together, sleeping for centuries while Hyrule changed drastically.
She was lucky she didn't have to endure what Link endured at all, being badly hurt and then having to sleep for 100 years in the Chamber of Ressurection.
The only thing Zelda had to go through was keeping Ganon contained, long enough for Link to return and save the day once again just like usual.
This time, they would fight together properly and ensure Demise's takeover of Hyrule failed just like the last time he attacked, Princess Zelda was confident in herself and her heroic boy-friend.
They'd fight to the bitter end if it was necessary, there would be no surrender even when or if all was lost, especially if it meant victory at a cost with Hyrule somehow replaced by a vast world with nothing but mountains, grass, endless desert and vast bodies of oceans.
If the land was ruined beyond restoration, how would Hyrule be revived?
"Who cares if the Kingdom of Hyrule is destroyed and can't be restored, young one?" Ghost Zelda/Skyloft Zelda said, seemingly reading Current Zelda's mind.
"As long as you have faith, as long as the Triforce exists and as long as you're not worried, Hyrule will always survive and will always live on, even if the kingdom was destroyed completely. You can always start over from scratch."
The whole area suddenly began to blur and fade out of existance, a wind blowing forth, sounding like a pack of wolves.
"Our time is up for now." Ghost Zelda proclaimed, "We shall talk again soon, after Demise is dealt with. Time grows short and my powers have waned fast, you and your hero must wake and prepare yourselves for the coming fights Hurry!"
Current Zelda reluctantly waved, "See you later, Zelda."
Zelda awoke in bed, gasping in shock as though she'd woken from a nightmare until she remembered Link was by her side, holding her in his arms.
The two looked outside, it was dawn, early hours of the morning, the Blood Moon had passed and nothing much had seemed to happen.
They looked at each other, smiling with relief before melting into one long, romantic kiss, eager to start the day and prepare for what was to soon come...
