When Valentina was eighteen months old, Penny discovered she was pregnant. The couple didn't say no to having any more children after finding out about this pregnancy, but they didn't want to anytime soon. Penny ended up giving birth to a son, Remington Wyatt Hofstadter. Beverly was able to live a relatively normal life with her arthritis. Her hip still bothered her from time to time, but her knee was a whole other story. Beverly was in the back yard with her grandchildren. She was playing with the girls while Remy sat in his baby swing. Beverly felt her knee practically give way, but caught herself on the swing set.

"Girls, can one of you go find grandpa or one of your parents please?" Beverly held on tightly as she waited. Nori and Val ran to find an adult. Alfred rushed towards his wife while Leonard went to get Remy.

"Honey, what's wrong?" Alfred took his wife into his arms.

"My knee," she breathed out, "I don't know what happened. It just gave out."

"Can you walk back to the house?"

"I can try," Beverly tried walking, but it was too painful. Alfred lifted his wife and took her inside before setting her on the couch in the main living room.

He sat on the coffee table and put Beverly's leg on his lap. "Sorry," he told her when she gasped in pain. "I should probably take you to the hospital, but I know you will want to wait until tomorrow."

"No, take me now please."

Alfred was stunned and worried. If Beverly wanted to go to the hospital then she had to be in a great deal of pain. "I'm going to get your wheelchair. I'll be right back." It took Alfred, Leonard, and Penny to get Beverly into the chair. Alfred and Leonard helped her into the car and Leonard went back inside. Beverly was taken into surgery after the doctor discovered that if her knee weren't replaced soon that it would break. She stayed in the hospital for a week and began physical therapy. Alfred helped his wife sit on the sofa and put her leg up.

"I really hope this is the last one for a while," Beverly said. "I can't believe these are only supposed to last for ten years."

"You'll be fine and who knows, by the time you need them replaced again they may have some new high tech way of replacing them."

"Hopefully once I recover from this you will finally have a break. I might even send you somewhere on vacation."

"I don't need a break and I wouldn't want to go anywhere without you."

Beverly smiled and kissed her husband, "I hate asking you for things. I always feel as if I am bothering you. I know what you say, but I can't help feeling this way."

"Do not get up too much. Let me take care of you. If you don't I'll move your walker into another room so that you can't get up."

Beverly laughed, "okay, okay, I get the picture."

The girls didn't go over to their grandparents for the first few days that Beverly was home. That way Alfred and Beverly could get a routine going and she could settle in.

"Gwama!" Nori and Val ran in but stopped as they reached the couch.

"Come on," Beverly patted the seat next to her. Nori climbed up and helped her sister climb up after.

"Gwampa is getting snacks. We watch movie," Nori said.

"Which movie?"

"We don't know," Val said as she shrugged.

Alfred came in with snacks and drinks for everyone. "Still haven't decided on a movie?"

"No," Beverly answered.

"Lilo & Stitch!" Nori shouted excitedly.

"Yeah!" Val agreed.

Beverly turned the movie on as Alfred sat next to Val. The two grandparents laughed every time their granddaughters said the lines in their Stitch voices. Once the movie ended the girls were wanting to watch more.

"Gwama, we watch 2?" Val asked.

"We can watch another, but let me use the bathroom first."

"Girls, I'm going to help grandma. You sit here okay?"

"Okay," the girls answered.

Alfred helped his wife stand and held her as she grabbed her walker. Once they were back, Nori turned the sequel on. They watched the other two movies before it was dinner time. The girls went home, "honey, what should we have for dinner?"

"It's late, so why don't you just order something," Beverly answered. "Something we can eat in bed."

"Why don't I help you get into bed and then we can figure out what we want." The couple ended up ordering pizza. Alfred helped his wife get ready for bed once they were finished. As soon as she was settled in bed, Alfred went to get ready.

After a month of hobbling around on a walker, Beverly was able to use her cane. After another month, she was able to walk on her own. Beverly would always have arthritis, but she wouldn't always have to rely on others. She knew that one day she would need her hip and knee replaced again, but decided not to worry about it. Beverly went from living alone and being alone to remarrying her ex-husband and moving in with her son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. She was able to witness all of the milestones big and small that her grandchildren hit. Beverly was happy that she was walking on her own again before Remy began walking. The Hofstadter family was once deeply damaged. Then, one day Leonard forgave Beverly. Beverly forgave Alfred and he forgave her. Beverly accepted her arthritis and everyone accepted one another, warts and all. They were able to create the type of happy family that they had never had before. It only took three ingredients: forgiveness, acceptance, and love.
