Lights
Snow trickled down from the grey colored cloudy sky overhead, small additions that rushed to the white blanket that covered the ground, thick and bountiful enough to cover every inch of the ground beneath your feet, not a single speck of green or dirt visible to the naked eye. The slow falling precipitation was peaceful, no high winds, no rain, as if nature wanted it to be as tranquil as it possibly could be. A pleasant sight for fans of the season, especially the various members of class 1-A, who were greeted with this reality when they all moved out for the day to see their families for the holiday's, leaving the dorm building quiet and almost empty.
One of the current occupants was Kyoka Jiro, who was laying down on her bed, taking in every inch of it as she listened to her MP3 player, plugging her quirk into the audio outlet. Trying to drown out her minor disappointment, having to face the reality that her parents were still on there music tour for the week, and she wouldn't be able to actually have her Christmas break until after they got back three or so days from now, this wouldn't have been so bad if she had someone with her like Yaomomo, but everyone was gone, and without the music currently running through her ears, she'd be reminded of that…the dreaded sound of all, the sound of silence.
The shy rocker laid, looking at the ceiling admiring the good job that her and her dormmates had done hanging up some Christmas lights across her room, which fortunately flashed whatever color Kyoka selected from the remote that came with it, a gracious early present from her folks before they went out to tour, feeling bad that they wouldn't make it back so soon, it put her mind at ease…for a time anyway, her expression going from neutral to sad as she played with the remote, the main overhead light being off so she could enjoy the colors and the atmosphere of each flash.
Red.
Green.
Blue.
Pink, which hurt her eyes a little.
Orange.
Yellow.
She repeated, trying to force a smile, but her lips remined in their perpetual curved downward position, remembering all the Christmas' she had spent with her family, where she had opened presents, ate whatever her father cooked…begrudgingly (most of it being burnt, but she kept face not wanting to hurt his feelings), watching tv, and eventually just laying on the floor and listening to whatever her mom put on the old vinyl player that she busted out each year for this occasion. Those were the days for her, the days she felt so warm on the inside, but now she lay alone on the holiday, the dorm system taking her away from that to keep her safe from the villains that lurked in the shadows, she didn't hate it…normally, but times like now, she felt it's crushing isolation.
Trying to distract herself from it all, she looped the lights, over and over.

….
Kyoka's eyes wandered, placing the remote next to her on the bed, before slowly turning her head to face the opposite wall of the room, propping her head with her pillow as she placed her hand under it, not knowing what to do about it all, she could go downstairs and watch the tv…no, just not in the mood, she could always put on her snow gear and walk around campus…no, too cold for her to handle right now, she could call her parents and talk…no, they're probably busy, she could just….maybe…
…
Nothing, nothing could take her depressed mind away from the wave of emotions she felt crashing over her, returning to fiddle with the remote. Selecting green, after going through all of them again, not simply because she was fearful of busting the lights, but also, she found herself looking on at the color quite often nowadays, it was simple, easy on the eyes, vibrant, distinct, determined, brave…nice, sweet, caring, considerate, cute, and overall, her new favorite color. A color that made her feel noticed, confident, appreciated, and maybe…hopefully…loved, plus not alone in this building, because of its own familial issues not being the greatest right now either.
His mother was invited overseas to see his father again, an opportunity she wasn't going to take, so's not to leave her son alone for the holiday. But true to form, Izuku did not mind her going and implored it since it had been so long since she had been in the same space as her beloved, and even though he was offered the same chance…Midoriya declined, if you asked him, he'd have said it was probably because of Eri and how she wanted him to spend the day with her, true of course, but it wouldn't be the only reason he decided to do so.
He never spoke of his dad…there was a reason for that, she was sure of it.
Regardless, she remained stationary, unable to muster enough courage to text him, call him, or even walk down to invite him up to her little den of lights and sounds. Landing on just listening to tunes, twirling her quirk, and eventually letting sleep overtake her, not the most eventful Christmas, but one that she could at least say she tried to salvage enjoyment from in her own shy and introverted way.
…
*Knock* *Knock*
At least that's what she thought it would be, before the sound of pecking on her door shot her out of her trance, raising her head from her pillow, unplugging her quirk as she slowly walked over to her door, straightening out her sleepwear, consisting of her yellow deep dope tank top, and black shorts as to not appear sloppy. After she was done looking somewhat presentable, she finally opened the door, revealing none other than the dormmate she was just thinking about, looking a little ragged himself, as if he had just crawled out of his bed, dawned in his turquoise t-shirt (that read t-shirt in Japanese, a trademark favorite of his), and what looked to be his pair of blue UA sweat pants that he wore on runs. He was shaking all over, whether from the cold or talking to a girl she wasn't sure; they were equally possible as far as she was concerned.
"H-hey J-Jiro," he spoke, a minor red tinge on his cheeks.
"…Hey Midoriya. What's up?"
"N-nothing much, j-just was checking in and seeing how you were doing."
"O-oh, I'm alright, you?"
"I'm okay, just thought you may have felt a little lonely since everybody cleared out and everything."
"I'm…I'm good, just adjusting a little, haven't really been here when it was this quiet, it's kinda unnerving ya know," she smiled, leaning against the doorway.
"Y-yeah, normally you'd be hearing Kacchan shout, Iida try to keep peace, or even Mina and the rest watching tv downstairs."
"Is it weird that I miss hearing her and Yaomomo cry over soap operas or Toru watching Idol competitions?"
"N-no not at all."
"Eh I feel like it is, you have no idea how many times she screeched when her 'shew in to win' lost that week."
"I t-think you mean every week," he smiled.
"My mistake," she playfully rolled her eyes, "It's hard to keep count at this point."
"I won't disagree with you there Jiro," he scratched his cheek.
"But y-yeah, I'm good," she looked down at the floor.
"Great, I'm happy to hear."
"Th-thank you though," she looked back up at him, smiling whilst rubbing her elbow with her hand, "I appreciate you checking in on me."
"O-o-oh," he rubbed his neck bashful as can be, "Y-y-you're welcome, I just felt like seeing how you were doing, since I was free today."
"Y-you are?"
"Mhm, Mr. Aizawa called to inform me that him and Eri are snowed in over at his place, so she won't be able to come over today."
"That sucks."
"A little, but at least she's safe and who knows, Mr. Aizawa could always put on a festive spirit for her."
"…" she smiled and raised an eyebrow at him.
"…Y-yeah I thought it was a bit much to."
"No no, you've got a point, I can definitely see him putting on a big Santa outfit and playing the part for her."
"Y-you really think so," Izuku snickered a little, stifling a laugh as he pictured the stoic man in a long white beard and a hat.
"Yep," Jiro giggled, the same mental image appearing.
"Y-you think she'd tug on his beard?"
"Oh my god yes, just to see if he was the real deal."
"That'd be adorable."
"And hilarious once she takes his cat and runs away from fake Santa," she laughed, causing Midoriya to do the same, "Then she'd scream 'back away you faker!'"
"Hopefully she's learned her holiday's by now, otherwise I see her mixing it up with any of the other icons."
"I'd pay good money to see her yell about him not being the easter bunny."
"M-me to."
They laughed for another two minutes, the most positive feeling the two had felt all day given their circumstance, grateful for each other's company for playing a part in fighting back the loneliness. Soon however, silence descended, the two looked at each other before shifting away awkwardly, waiting for the other to make the next move…
"H-hey." "U-um."
"Oh, sorry Jiro, you go first."
"No, you can go on, mine wasn't all THAT important."
"It's alright, it can wait."
"…If you insist, uh, w-well I uh…"
"Is something wrong?"
"N-no, just I uh…. wanted to thank you for checking on me again, and I really needed that laugh is all."
"O-oh, l-l-l-like I said it was no problem, and I needed it to, so win-win."
"Y-yeah…win-win."
"…"
"…"
"W-well I guess I'll just go back to my room."
"You are?"
"Mhm, I wanted to go over some notes and maybe read a little."
"That sounds cool."
"I guess…"
"Hm?"
"I-I-I mean it is."
"Oh alright…well I guess I'll get back to it to."
"O-o-okay, y-you do that…"
"I will," she stepped back and placed a hand on the door.
"Have a g-goodnight Jiro…"
"Y-you to Midoriya…"
"You know where I am if you need anything…"
"Same for me…"
"…Night."
"Night."
Jiro slowly closed the door, secretly eyeing him each second that passed, before the door finally connected and shut the outside light from the hallway, Kyoka's back facing it as she propped herself up, looking at her black and white checkered floor, the void of silence filled the room again, her inadequacies at trying to ask him to stay was hanging over her slumped form as she looked back up at the ceiling, the same color she kept on previously shining down on her and the room.
Green.
…
Jiro closed her eyes as she took in a deep breath, before flashing a confident look in her eyes and flinging herself around, determined to do what she had wanted. Her hand grabbed the knob, turned it, and threw back the block of wood as she dashed out of the doorway…
Not noticing Midoriya was about to knock on her door again, just as determined, Jiro crashing into his form and nearly knocking him over, the quirk inheritor scrambled to keep his footing as he quickly planted his feet and caught Jiro by the arms to prevent her from such a fate, the shy rocker also grabbing him to secure further balance. The two eventually regained composure as they stood back up naturally, but didn't let go of each other, their eyes meeting in a wide-eyed stare, the two realizing what the other was planning to do, and a deep blush forming as they began frantically apologizing.
"S-s-s-sorry," Midoriya chirped, quickly letting her go.
"N-no it was my fault."
"N-no it was mine; I should've just backed away a little and let you get outside, is your nose okay?"
"Yeah, it's fine."
"G-good."
"Is your chest okay?"
"I-I-I-It's fine."
"G-good."
…
"Do you wanna hang out!?" "Wanna come in and listen to music with me?!"
"…"
"…"
"S-sure," Midoriya smiled.
"G-great," Jiro backed up, and held the door open for him as he walked in, "C-come on in."
"Th-thank you, your lights are really pretty."
"Thanks, they were a gift."
"Aw that's amazing."
"Y-yeah but, not the best gift I got today," she smiled at him before she closed the door behind her.
"What was then," he asked as he sat down on her floor next to her bed.
"I'll tell you later," she sat down next to him, making him blush and nervously smile, soon taking her phone and using her Bluetooth to connect to a speaker, playing the music that filled the room with pleasant sounds as they sat back and enjoyed each other's company.
Eventually laying down on the floor, starting up at the lights.
A Few Songs Later…
"H-hey Jiro?"
"Yeah Midoriya," she turned her head to look at him, Midoriya doing the same.
"Y-you can change the color of the lights, right?"
"Mhm, why?"
"C-could you change them to uh…purple?"
"…Sure, any particular reason," Jiro asked as she stretched her quirk over to the remote on her bed.
"J-just one," he blushed as he turned his face away from her to hide it from her, "P-p-purple is actually…my favorite color."
"…Oh," her quirk brought the remote to her, unwrapping in her palm, the color purple descending on the room as the next song cued up, despite the color change, the only thing on Jiro's face was the color red, "R-really?"
"Y-yeah," he muttered as he straightened his head back up.
"W-why?"
"Well it's peaceful, vibrant, nice," he slowly turned his head to face her, "Talented, funny, c-cute," Jiro turned her own head to face him, looking shocked as he explained further, "Loyal, shy, easy to talk t-…about, t-talk about, c-confident, amazing, a-and…really pretty…"
"…"
Midoriya gulped as they looked at each other, nervous to her reaction, unsure if she picked up on his metaphor. Thankfully, she did.
"O-o-oh."
"Mhm," he nodded.
"W-w-well uh…to tell you the truth…I'm more partial to g-green myself."
"R-really?"
"Yeah, really…"
"…Th-th-that's good."
"I'd say so…"
"…"
"I was talking about you by the way."
"I-I-I-I know, I was talking about you earlier also."
"Really?"
"Y-y-y-yes."
"Huh, never would've guessed," she narrowed her eye lids.
"W-w-well now you know…"
"That I do," she placed her hand on top of his, to which he pushed his fingers through the gaps between hers, the two then turning their heads forward and closed their eyes, getting lost in the music and the emotions.
…
Only leaving them, when Jiro asked a question, "Hey Midoriya?"
"Hm? Yeah Jiro?"
"Have you ever danced before?"
"...N-No, actually I haven't..."
"Well then," Jiro lifted herself off the floor to sit upright, turning to her grenette with a soft look in her eyes, "Would you like to?"
Midoriya smiled, "Y-Yes...I would."
The two teens stood up, Jiro soon turning up the volume on the player before wrapping her arms around Deku. Him soon following her lead, albeit not as relaxed as she was, a fact that soon changed after a minute or so when Kyoka leaned her head against his chest blissfully.
Midoriya met her act with propping his head against hers, closing his eyes, his heartbeat going from infrequent and sporadic, to calm and gentle beat, another sound that put Jiro's worried mind to ease, as she slowly danced the night away with him.
The two muttering:
"Merry Christmas Jiro."
"Merry Christmas Midoriya."
THE END.
Author's Note: I felt like writing another winter themed one before I took a short break for the holidays, I couldn't get it out of my head so here it is, I hope you all enjoy your holiday season, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
P.S. I always pictured Coldplays "Rush of Blood to the Head" playing as they danced, but that's just me.
