Silver Beast: Safe Keeping

As they walked down the hallway Kagome's anxiety attack was only growing worse. Being so close to Eri's amulet and being stressed out from the topic in class was a horrible combination. She was about to pass out when Inuyasha came out of the restroom. Just as their eyes met Eri's amulet bumped her in the neck sending her body into shock. With no control over her body she instantly went limp in Eri's arms and lost consciousness.

"Kagome!" Inuyasha yelled as he caught her before she hit the floor. "What the hell's wrong with her?"

"I don't know!" Eri exclaimed anxiously. "She just started getting sick in class a few minutes ago. We were on our way to the nurses office when she just passed out!"

"I got her. You go back to class." Inuyasha offered as he picked Kagome off of the floor and clutched her protectively against his chest.

"Are you sure? I don't mind taking her." Eri asked as she followed after him.

"There's no point in both of us going Eri. Besides, she's dead weight. You could barely hold her up as it is." Inuyasha said just as Kagome moaned and snuggled closer to his chest. He would have smiled had he not been so worried about her health. "Can you go get her stuff from class and put it in her locker for her?"

"Alright." Eri nodded hesitantly. "Can you text me what the nurse says? I'm really worried about her."

"Sure." Inuyasha shrugged just before turning down the hall.

Once he was sure Eri was gone, he dodged the nurses office all together and took Kagome to the far end of the school building. Here they could hide in secret without fear of being caught by the humans. He was shocked at how weak she was. He frowned when he noticed a tiny burn mark on Kagome's neck. He'd known instantly that it was from Eri's amulet by the size of it. He was shocked at how strongly she'd been affected. He didn't think her charm would have been strong enough to make Kagome this sick. Perhaps seer's powers were more affected by silver than werewolves? Unsure how long she'd be out he walked into an empty classroom and closed the door. Once Kagome was comfortably sitting in his lap with her legs over his thigh he buried his nose along her neck.

Having heightened senses he hoped he'd be able to try and figure out what was wrong with her. Unfortunately for him, her scent quickly overpowered his senses. He nearly groaned as her pure, erotic sent filled his nose. He had to tightly clamp his beast into the back of his mind to keep from licking her warm skin along her neck. Thankfully his instincts didn't pick up any signs of sickness. All he could pick up was distressed. So what the hell upset her so much to get her to this point of weakness? Whatever it was had to have been traumatic. Perhaps her being in a new school was stressing her out? He guessed it was possible but not knowing Kagome well enough he wasn't sure if that was the case.

As he held her in his arms he took note of how good it felt. He'd been pissed that Principal Jones despite telling Kagura he'd give him some slack put him in detention anyways. He'd just got dismissed for lunch when he'd run into Kagome and Eri in the hallway. It was a good thing too since he'd been there to catch her. Otherwise she'd have hit her head on the tile floor. Now with Kagome's scent filling his senses and her weight safely settled in his arms, his body felt at ease for the first time all day. It was as if her gentle aura soothed the tension away in his neck and shoulders. He wasn't angry or irritable. He felt... content? Relaxed even! Acknowledging these facts made him frown.

"What are you doing to me girl?" Inuyasha thought to himself as he stared down at the sleeping maiden in his arms.

Her peaceful presence confused the hell out of him and made him wonder who Kagome Higurashi really was. Seeing a stray hair resting on her cheek, he tucked it carefully behind her rounded ear. He was amazed at how soft her skin felt when his knuckles brushed against her cheek. She really was beautiful, more than ever with her face relaxed as she slept so trustingly in his arms. Being up close like this he could better appreciate her features. Her eyelashes were long and curled beautifully against her high cheekbones. Although her skin was pale from her earlier distress it still held a soft blush to the apples of her cheeks. He loved how her freckles flirted over the bridge of her nose. It made him wonder if she had any more freckles hidden under her clothes.

Realizing he was heading into dangerous territory he shook his head to clear it of its perverted thoughts and whipped out his phone to send some lame excuse to Eri. He was in mid text when Kagome's eyes suddenly snapped open. At first he thought she'd woken up but when he heard her heartbeat pick up and her body stiffen he realized she was having a vision. It fascinated him when her eyes began to glow within. Whatever she was seeing he was grateful she wasn't with Eri right now. Otherwise they'd all be fucked. He was so entranced by her eye's magical glow that he didn't realize all of the hair on his body was standing on end. It was only when her inner light suddenly disappeared that he realized the amount of static charge in the air. It was like his body had been rubbed from head to toe with a balloon.

He knew if he touched anything he'd cause an electric spark to zap from his finger. Not wanting her to see him with his hair standing up like an anime character he quickly pat his hair back down. He hadn't meant to stir Kagome from her sleep by his jarred movements but for the sake of someone walking in on them it was probably for the best. He was frozen stiff when he heard the sexiest little moan escape her pink lips as she stretched. Her back arched against his arm making her black t-shirt pull tight and her breasts present them to his gaze. The sight of her neck exposed made his mouth run dry and his cock hardened awkwardly against her thigh. He made sure to stay very still so she'd remain unaware of his little predicament.

"Inu…yasha?" Kagome mumbled as she tried to force her eyes to focus.

"Holy goddess help me!" Inuyasha inwardly groaned at the breathy way she uttered his name. If he thought he was hard then, nothing could compare to how uncomfortable he felt now. It took all his will power to prevent the blush from spreading across his cheeks.

"What… where am I?" Kagome asked as she looked around them in confusion.

"You were on your way to the nurses office with Eri when you passed out in the hallway." Inuyasha said as he watched her beautiful blue eyes clear of their sleepy fog and focus solely on his own. "I caught you before you hit the floor thankfully."

"Oh... I guess I should thank you then." Kagome said as she sat up a little higher in his lap. "Why are we in an empty classroom?"

"Because my nose could tell that you weren't really sick. I figured I'd bring you here to rest until you woke up. It's a good thing too cause you just had a vision." Inuyasha said as he leaned back to give them both some space.

"Oh great..." Kagome groaned as she cushioned her head in her palm. "No one saw that right?"

"No, just me." Inuyasha reassured her. "Mind telling me what happened earlier?"

"Mr. Thomas brought up the Kwakiutl history today. Everyone got into a huge debate over the existence of werewolves and what would happen if they found one. It was awful Inuyasha! Some of the kids were talking about skinning your kin or shooting them like they were brainless beasts for fun! Yuka even had the nerve to share her father's experience in catching one on camera. Then that stupid amulet started messing with me and I guess I couldn't take it anymore when it hit my neck." Kagome sniffled as she rubbed the tender burn on her neck.

"So what happened in your vision?" Inuyasha asked as Kagome whipped her tears away on her sleeve.

"The vision wasn't anything exciting. It was about a bad storm that's going to strike in a couple months. I wouldn't worry about it." Kagome reassured him. "Gosh... how am I ever going to be able to go back to class! I won't be able to look at anyone the same now! They're all monsters!"

"I know what you mean. Damn… I'm sorry Kagome." Inuyasha sighed as he tightened his hold around her waist and tucked her head under his chin. He hated seeing women cry but for some reason Kagome's tears twisted his insides up like never before. He needed her to stop so he'd quit feeling this way. "I took Ancient History last year. I forgot about that stuff being in the textbook. I would have warned ya had I thought about it."

"I'll be alright." Kagome sniffled as she nuzzled into his neck. "It just caught me by surprise is all."

She smiled when his warm and inviting scent filled her nose. It grew a little wider when his arms tightened around her waist a little more. She felt so safe, even cherished by his embrace. It made her want to stay there wrapped up in his arms forever and never have to go back to class ever again. Too bad for her the bell rang out in the hallway stirring them both from the tranquil peace.

"Think you'll be ok to go back to class? Monsters included?" Inuyasha teased as he tried to ignore the need to hold her in his arms.

He shouldn't be feeling this way. He wanted to protect her, hold her and even kiss those pink lips of hers until they were red and swollen. Those thoughts made him angry, not at Kagome but at himself. He needed to be stronger; have better self-control. He would not start a serious relationship with anyone; no matter how tempting they were. Sure, a quick fling here and there was fine but nothing more than that. He liked Kagome, but he wouldn't do that to her. She didn't deserve to be treated like that. She deserved to be loved and respected by a loyal male. He couldn't, no wouldn't be that for her...

"Yeah." Kagome sighed as she got off his lap so he could get up. "Thanks for catching me again. I feel like I'm always falling into your arms."

"Feh!" Inuyasha smirked as they walked towards the door. "Don't worry about it. Women fall for me all the time."

"Gosh, you're so arrogant." Kagome laughed at his joke.

"It wasn't a joke..." Inuyasha inwardly cringed. "Just try not to panic so much next time, alright?"

"I'll try." Kagome nodded as they walked out of the empty classroom. "Are you going to the party at the Rez this weekend? I heard it's going to be a lot of fun."

"Are you kidding me? I wouldn't miss out on that buffet!" Inuyasha smirked as they walked down the hall.

"Haha! I guess I'll see you at the party then?" Kagome laughed.

"You bet!" Inuyasha smirked as they went their separate ways.

As Inuyasha continued down the hall Kagome couldn't stop the blush from coloring her cheeks or the warmth from spreading in her chest when seeing his smile. If she were ever to find a mate around here… she hoped it would be him.
