Chapter 20: Rin
Rin stared wide-eyed at her sister. She hadn't seen the other woman in months. She had been so busy that she hadn't dropped in for any visits.
Sakura Emiya looked beautiful as ever. Her hair had grown out since the last time Rin had seen her; now reaching the lower part of her back. Her violet eyes, once filled with a deep sadness, were now full of life and vitality.
Though Rin would never openly admit to it, her sister's beauty was enough to either match or surpass her own.
"What are you doing here?!" Rin asked as joy began to burst in her heart.
The purple haired girl smiled. "We got a call from a friend of yours. He said that you're working on something that we may be able to help with." She explained.
"We?" Rin asked.
Then she saw him. She had been so shocked at seeing Sakura that she hadn't even noticed her old comrade from the fifth holy grail war, and now Sakura's husband. Shirou Emiya.
"Emiya!" Rin exclaimed. "What are you doing here?"
The red haired man laughed as he rubbed the back of his head. "When she says that there may be something "we" could do, she meant there's something I may be able to do."
"Oh?" Then it hit her. Shirou specialized in projection mage-craft. That must have meant that the person who had contacted them was...
"Ben contacted you, didn't he?" Rin asked.
The two nodded.
"He told you about the gate?" She dug further.
"Yeah," Shirou nodded. "He thinks I may be able to project a copy of it."
Rin thought about it for a moment and nodded. It could work. Though simply projecting a copy would possibly be insufficient. There were several different properties that had to go into a gate like this. Especially since it led to another realm.
"Do you think you can project something like that?" She inquired. "This will probably be one of the highest level projections you've ever attempted."
"I haven't exactly projected something like it before," he admitted. "But it wouldn't hurt to try."
"I'll admit, we've reached a bit of a dead end," Rin admitted herself. "So even so, the help would be appreciated. I can draw up everything that could help you project it."
He nodded. "That would be helpful. I may need to test it out and practice it a bit. It has to be perfect, or it won't work. Projecting a gate to another realm is pretty crazy stuff."
"I have to ask you though, Rin," Sakura began with a puzzled face. "Why do you want to summon a gate to another realm? Conners wasn't really too giving on those details."
"Let's go back to my place and I'll tell you everything," Rin sighed.
—-
The three made their way back to Rin's apartment and the magus got working right away to make them tea.
Her place was a mess to say the least. Notes, books, and charms covered the ground, and clothes were thrown haphazardly around the place as if a tornado had come through. Bags of trash rested near the door and dishes were left unwashed in the sink.
"You really ought to clean up around here, Tohsaka," Shirou commented.
"I've been busy," she waved off. "Take a seat, I'll have the tea ready in a second."
The two sat and Rin got to work on the tea.
She couldn't believe that it had been a month and she hadn't even thought to ask Emiya for help. It went to show how distracted she'd been. She had barely gotten any sleep as usual, and she had made herself busy as to not think of Blake throughout the day.
She finally finished the tea, and set a cup in front of each of her guests. She then sat down with her own and took a sip. She sighed. It was much better than the tea she had had at Ben's.
"So what's going on, Rin?" Sakura asked. "What have you been working on? And why are you trying to go to another realm? Is it the gem sword? Did you find a lead?"
Rin shook her head. "It happened at the end of the previous grail war. Ben and I came out of it on top, but we didn't really know why. An Einsbern Homunculus, by the name of Ireana von Einsbern, had been giving us a lot of grief, but then, suddenly we won. We don't really remember how. Then suddenly, Ben blurted out a name that was familiar to him, yet he didn't know. It belonged to a man named Blake."
She continued to tell the tale of everything that had happened since then. About her dreams. About the monster they had fought on the pier. About the hooded man. And about Charlotte Ryan.
"So anyways, we now can confirm that he did exist," Rin said. "Now all we have to do is find him. We have reason to believe that he's in this diviner realm, or at least a lead of where he is, is there."
"This Blake guy," Sakura murmured in thought. "He was important to you too, wasn't he?"
Rin hesitated, but then nodded. "I think he was."
Sakura nodded. "Then obviously we'll help you with this. Right, Shirou?"
Emiya nodded. "You're family. Of course we'll help you."
Rin smiled.
"Then let's get started."
