Unexpected Family

Sara sits quietly at the table staring down as she plays with her ring turning it this way and that watching the colors dance across the opal stone, Sara knows Shelly will not be able to hold her temper for long, hopping she will strike first, needing her to strike first and it is to no surprise when Shelly suddenly slams her fist down onto the table to get Sara's attention. Sara jumps at being startled before she lifts her eyes up to Shelly and smirks, "Hello Mother, a little early aren't you, my birthday isn't for another few weeks"

Shelly's eyes bore hard into Sara, "How dare you sit there and ignore me you worthless piece of shit" Shelly bellows.

"Oh my apologizes, I was just admiring my beautiful new engagement ring and picturing my wedding day and of course the honeymoon" Sara happily informs Shelly as she folds her arms over her chest showing off her ring and bracelet with a smirk before flicking her eyes towards the 1 way mirror where she knows Emmett was waiting for her on the other side, "somewhere warm I think, where we can lay scantly clad soaking up the warmth of the sun" Sara says with a cheeky smile wiggling her eye brows knowing Emmett is listening to every word.

Behind the glass where the group stands, Jasper chuckles as he elbows Emmett in the ribs arching his an eye brow at his brother, making Emmett roll his eyes when he feels Carlisle steady hand giving his shoulder a tight squeeze and whispers, "Isle Esme" causing Emmett to nod and smile broadly and Esme to chuckle behind her hand.

"Congratulation Mr. Emmett" Jenks offers to Emmett.

"Yah, congratulations" Chief Swan also adds still wishing it would have worked out with Bella, but after what happened at school and talking with her Mother and informing her about what happened it was decided to have her go down to Florida and finish out her schooling there. Charlie felt like a failure at being a parent, but there wasn't much he can do at this point and refused to fail and disappoint another young girl.

Shelly scoffs, "Your pathetic ass belongs to me and what I say goes. I will sign you over to the block and Mr. Anderson here will be taking custody of the two brats"

"Really, so you're willing to sell your own flesh and blood for a quick buck, shame on you Shelly. Your were never a real mother, I've met a real mother her name is Esme Cullen. I've felt her warmth, her honest concerns for my thoughts and feelings and her unconditional love for me, Sam and Emma, I will no longer settle for anything less" Sara spits out.

Carlisle wraps his arms around Esme's trembling shoulders her eyes pooling with tears that can never fall, "She loves you" Carlisle whispers knowing what Sara's words meant to his beloved wife and mate as he places a kiss on her temple.

"I have every right you little ingrate, I didn't waste all my time breaking you, keeping you isolated and untouched to save your soul" Shelly pours out her venom, "I've done my research the block will pay more for someone like you" Shelly mumbles under her breath, but the words stab Sara's heart just the same.

"Someone… like… me?" Sara's hands fist in her lap as she holds tight to her temper.

"Broken, worthless, ugly freak, there's not one redeeming thing worth saving bout you, except to lie on you back, that's all you will ever be good for, you're just kidding yourself if you think anyone including at boy could ever love you, pathetic weak useless girl" Shelly's says her voice shrill as she smirks at Sara who watches her color darken even more the longer the conversation continues.

Sara sits up a little straighter, her eyes dance with knowledge "That's were you are so wrong, I found my family...my other half and they love me even when I'm being stubborn" Sara says tilting her head proudly at Shelly before smiling at the mirror, even unseen by Sara the Cullen's return that smile knowing the steps forward that Sara has taken since coming into their home.

Sara takes a deep breath as she tilts her head rubbing her thumb over her bracelet, "And the kids, what does Mr. Anderson plan on doing with them, hmm?"

Mr. Anderson leans forward to get Sara's attention, her stomach coiling from his greasy tar color along with the constant hand prints pushing against it; Sara needs to throw up again and quickly places her hand over her lips.

"Ah well, once Ms. Richardson signs the children over to me I will make sure they are placed in very... good...homes" Mr. Anderson simply replies giving Sara an menacing snarl showing his yellowing teeth.

Now Sara also leans forward, "Like hell you will buster, I know what you are. You buy innocent children and sell them to the highest bidders, your a evil monster" Sara can feel her hold on her temper slipping quickly, "Those are somebodies babies you sick bastard and I will take you down on a slow ride to hell and personally throw you in the pit before you lay one dark and diseased finger on my children" Sara's voice was cold and hard as the lights begin to flicker in the room.

Jasper and Emmett glance at each other than over to Jenks and Chief Swan, "Enough?" Jasper asks.

"Just a bit more then we'll pull her out" Jenks suggest not wanting to lose this case on a technicality.

"God girl, I always knew you were beyond difficult and stupid when it comes to those brats , can't even remember the rules can you running around with that boy and letting him touch you, so I brought a little reminder" Shelly says as she reaches down into her bag and pulls out a thick heavy leather belt and lets it drop on the table in front of Sara, the clank of the buckle echo loudly in the room as Mr. Anderson smirks in triumph, Shelly had told him all about the belt.

Sara sits frozen, staring at the belt that has given her so many scars, physically and mentally over the years. Her heart and breathing begins to pick up as she slowly turns to look over to the mirror biting her lower lip, when suddenly and only for a brief second so only the Cullen's see it with their vampire sight, her eye flash blue.

"Oh shit" Jasper mumbles as he watches Emmett begin rubbing his chest feeling his mate's pull through their growing bond and lets out a soft whine.

"Easy brother, it's almost done" Jasper whispers.

"So you're going to teach me a lesson Shelly, huh? What, was the clothes iron too heavy to bring with you?" Sara pushes back her chair hard enough that it bangs against the wall, stands up and begins pacing like a caged animal, "and I know it would really hard to lock me in a closet for days without food or water and only a bucket or how about…how about the bleach and boar bristle brush, huh, I know it was your favorite…hmm…what, didn't you pack any of that in your designer bag huh, to scrub me down with it till I bled begging for you to stop, before pouring the bleach over my raw and broken skin because I was a maturing young girl and got my monthly cycle or made me swallow some of it, I mean god only knows what internal organs that messed up, granted you took care of that to didn't ya? I know, I know you brought the branding iron, but how would you heat it up, so that won't work and I haven't had a pet in a while since I found the stray cat Lucky, so I guess you can't kill another pet and throw it into a stew pot for me to find after school, yeah I guess the belt is your best option to straighten me out isn't Shelly…ANSWER ME!" Sara finishes her rant now panting, her hair lightly moving from the air current blowing around in the sealed room as her gift begins to leak out, the lights are now constantly flickering and sparking as Emmett watches the mirror begin to vibrate.

"Damn, I think I'm going to be sick" Chief Swan croaks.

"Jenks" Jasper demanded.

"Does her medical file and journals collaborate what has been said here" Jenks asks.

"Yes, the journals in detail and they also note her emotional state as well. The medical file is accurate and I have performed a full physical as well including blood work and x-rays showing old fractures and dated photos of Sara's abuse." Carlisle informs both Jenks and Chief Swan.

"And the children Dr. Cullen?" Jenks asks as Charlie is now looking rather green picturing the little ones surviving such torture.

"Both have also had a physical, it was one of the first things Sara asked about when she came to stay with us, I found no sign of abuse. It seems Sara protected them as best she could under the circumstances, then put them first when left in her care and Sara survived on what was left over if there was anything to begin with" Carlisle informs the group, his voice is cold and angry now truly seeing Sara's struggles to survive and keep the kids alive and safe from this woman.

"Does your family have a solution for the age complication; this is all very damning evidence, no doubt the judge will rule in our favor but they are still under age even though Sara is about to age out, the judge will put the kids into foster care. Now you said Mr. Emmett is engaged to Ms. Sara so we might be able to slip that one through with some consideration of completing her schooling before the wedding, but what about the children?" Jenks asks trying to think of anything to keep everyone together that he can sell to a judge.

"Adoption by myself and Esme, we already have an good adoption and foster care record with the state(fake as it is), and we would be more than happy to and it would keep the family all together, money and housing is no issue as several of the older kids will be heading off to college soon. The children have already started attending school here and made some friends and consider our family their own" Carlisle quickly suggests getting a bright smile and enthusiastic nod from Esme.

"Done, and since I was hoping you would make the suggestion I just so happen to have papers here with me for you to fill out so I will file the them with the courts first thing tomorrow and get the adoption papers over to social services" Jenks says, "there is insurmountable evidence of severe abuse and continued abandonment to file charges and set the process in motion, do you not agree Chief Swan."

"Absolutely, in fact I believe we can conclude this meeting and place both of them under arrest for child abuse, neglect, abandonment and the attempt of selling and trafficking of minors" Chief Swan states firmly as he makes his way to the other room with two of his deputies, the Cullen family closely follows leaving Jenks to witness it all.

The conference door swings open allowing Chief Swan's deputies to enter in and go straight to Mr. Anderson and Shelly, pulling them up from their chairs and hand cuffing them while reading their rights, but before removing them from the room Sara asks Shelly one last question, "Did you ever love me….even just a little?" Sara asks holding her breath, afraid to hear the answer.

Shelly scoffs, "you were a mistake that I should have gotten rid of the minute I found out about you, you were nothing be a rock in my shoe, painful, annoying and something I've been trying to get rid of from the beginning" Shelly tells Sara before spitting in her face, the final blow of truth lands hard on Sara.

The room plunges into a heavy silence….till there wasn't. The overhead fluorescent lights finally give out with a spark and shatter causing the glass to rain down on Sara, frozen in shock. Emmett quickly gathers her up into his arms and folds his body around Sara placing her head at the crook of this neck for her to breathe in his scent, his eyes black as coal at the notion that his unmarked mate is in such distress. Jasper carefully approaches, his hands up and head tilted slightly showing his neck in submission, not wanting to anger Emmett's vampire so close to the surface.

"Brother" Jasper whines and receives a growl in response.

Carlisle and Esme help Chief Swan quickly usher everyone out of the room forgetting that Jenks was still watching, he has always know there was something different about Mr. Jasper, he debates if he should walk away and continue to live in his blind ignorance or see if his theories prove right. Jenks stays but is surprisingly joined by Dr. and Mrs. Cullen.

"You understand that you see and know nothing and your services will continue to be used along with a handsome bonus, yes?" Carlisle firmly states.

"Our privacy is most important to our family, to our very lives and now that includes you Mr. Jenks" Esme informs him.

"Yes ma'am" Jenks replies, as they watch Jasper now come up behind Sara and gently place his hands at her waist, as he begins to purr along with Emmett as neither like how still and quiet she is, but thankful the building is still standing none the less.

"Emmett…home…need to see…kids…please" Was all Sara was able to get out before she lets out a heart breaking sob collapsing into Emmett's chest.

"Let's go home" Jasper says as he backs away and opens the door and steps out into the hallway as he is met by Carlisle, Esme and Jenks. Jasper lets out a low growl knowing what he witnessed; he really likes this man and would hate to have to dispose of him.

"Easy Jasper remember where we are standing and it has been dealt with, besides he has papers to file, be nice" Carlisle address Jasper sternly.

"You understand the need for secrecy, death for not only us by you and yours?" Jasper added showing his razor sharp teeth, making Jenks nod his head as a light beads of sweat broke out across his forehead.

"Good" Jasper replies as they all watch Emmett carry Sara out into the hallway, past them and down the hall to the exit leaving the rest of the family to catch up.

"I will get these papers signed and back to you within the hour" Carlisle informs Jenks as he is left standing in the police station vestibule watching Mr. Emmett place Ms. Sara into the passenger seat then make his way to the driver side while the remaining family squeeze into the back seat once again.

"Curious….so damn curious" Jenks mumbles to himself before turning to find Chief Swan and get a copy of the police report to add to his case file for the judge, he wants no loop holes, absolutely none.

-Back Home-

Alice slides out of her vision with a sad smile and tears pooling that will never fall, "Hard parts done, they're heading home" she whispers to her siblings as they continue watching 'Mulan'. The kids wrapped in blankets half watching and half dozing. Rosalie leans down and places a gentle kiss on Sam's head as Alice does the same for Emma. Their family is safe for now Alice thinks to herself causing Edward to cock his head and arch an eye brow at her in thoughts.

'It's nothing Edward…just a shadow lurking….probably Shelly looming still…nothing more…I will continue to watch' Alice tells Edward in her mind as he give her a slight nod, he too will be keeping an watchful eye out for his family, all of them.

A/N: Whew...that was exhausting to get written and yes I know it's another cliff hanger, but I think the next chapter will be another time skip to move things along.
