A.N. (10/31/20) - Happy Halloween everyone! And don't forget what that means...

Omake 9 - Happy Birthdayween

Rin Tohsaka knew that her costume was a bit much for a prank.

In her previous life, she's never expressed any desire for the well-known pastime known as 'cosplaying'. Dressing up as anime or game characters was simply something she wasn't interested in. Ironically enough, becoming Rin Tohsaka might be considered a very extreme form of cosplay.

But since her life was now intertwined deeply with the Nasuverse, Rin wanted to express her love for the franchise by dressing up as another popular Fate character.

And so, she decided to go out as Ritsuka Fujimaru for the upcoming Signal Halloween Party.

Of course, she hasn't told anyone that she was participating. Neither Ruby nor Yang knows that she'll be crossdressing for the costume party that Yang's planning on joining. And if Rin happens to hit on Yang, only to do a face reveal...

"Mwhahaha!" Rin cackled as she quickly got dressed and left her dorm room.

Passing a few of her classmates on the way, Rin noted that none of them seemed to recognize her. Inwardly praising herself for learning how to disguise herself so well, Rin walked into the auditorium where the school party was being held.

Already, contestants were posing and showing off their costumes on stage. Rin saw people dressed up as famous Huntsmen, characters from stories, or even the more classical costumes like a vampire or ghost. She noted that none of them were dressed as a Grimm though, which made sense considering that doing so would be in poor taste to some people.

That, and there were rumors that some testy Professors might actually attack any costumed Grimm on sight.

The announcer - a cheerful Ruby dressed in a cute devil-themed dress - cheered the crowd on. "Alright, everyone! Our next contestant, going by the name McBlondeBrawler, is dressed as something amazing. Give it up for... THE LION KING!"

"GAO!" Yang suddenly jumped on stage, dressed in an impressive lion costume, making use of her hair to act as her mane. "Give me all the meat!"

"Go Yang," Ruby cheered from next to her. The crowd also started to cheer along with her.

Rin stared at Yang in surprise. This... this was...

A furious expression crossed her face. This is unacceptable! What kind of knock-off Saber Lion is this?! Where's the cuteness, the majesty, the pure moe of the Saber Lion?! This is no Lion King, rather, it's a cub pretending to be bigger than it has any right to be. To defile the sacred 'GAO' cry like that...

And what's worse, the foolish masses are actually cheering for that blonde idiot. At this rate, Yang might actually be the winner of this stupid costume contest. Rin looked down at herself and realized that her crossdressing wouldn't be enough. No, she needed to bring out the big guns.

The sudden image of Archer looking at her - saying "Rin, that's Hell you're walking into" - crossed her mind.

'Well screw you, Professor Oak, I'm doing this. Zelretch gave it to me just in case of emergencies like this, and this definitely counts as an emergency. Nobody disrespects Baeber like this.'

Pulling out a remote from her pocket, Rin pressed the big fat sole button on it. With a loud poof, a pink cloud enveloped her entire body, causing the whole school to look her way.

"What is this?" A surprised Ruby asked. "Is this another contestant entering at the last minute?"

From the smoke, a posh voice was heard. "O-ho-ho-ho, Magical Girl Kaleido Ruby, champion of Love and Justice, at your service!"

The appearance of Rin Tohsaka appeared in an unexpected fashion. Dressed in a red-and-white themed dress, including a cloak and animal ears, the crowd was stunned by her appearance. The contrast with the image of the popular but aloof Rin versus the person in front of them was amazing.

"Oh my gawd, Rin you look so cute!" cried Ruby from onstage.

"What the heck Rin you totally stole my limelight," Yang cried in outrage as she jumped off the stage.

"A limelight you do not deserve. How dare you taint the majesty of the holy Saber Lion!"

"What in the world are you talking about?!"

"Take off that costume immediately!"

"Never!" And thus, the contest ended due to the massive amounts of damage caused by the two brawling students, as well as the rest of the school that joined in the ensuing fight.

Later that night, as Ruby Rose helped clean up that night, she thought about how awesome the day was. Her friends and family were planning to celebrate her birthday later tonight, and Ruby was gonna get all sorts of presents from Rin and Yang and her Dad and Uncle Qrow and Tukson and Ozpin and Miss Goodwich and...

The sound of someone cursing broke Ruby's train of thought. "Dammit, can't believe the blonde bimbo actually tore at my clothes. Now I'm stuck with my original costume."

A boy around Ruby's age walked out from behind a curtain, only to freeze as he caught sight of Ruby staring at him.

"Hi there, Happy Halloween."

The boy stood there frozen for a few seconds before replying to Ruby, "Err... yeah, Happy Halloween to you too."

"Did you have fun at the party?" she asked him.

"Mm," he nodded. "It was the best. You looked great up there hosting the contest."

"Aw, shucks. Thanks," she said with a slight blush. "Were you dressed as one of the contestants?"

He waved his hand sideways. "Eh~ you could say that."

"So are you going trick-or-treating later?"

He shook his head. "Nah, I'm going to go to a friend's party tonight. Celebrate with them instead."

"Oh, what a coincidence. I'm having a party tonight too! It's for my birthday."

"Wow, your birthday is on Halloween?"

Ruby giggled. "Yup, and I'm also going to go trick-or-treating with my friends. So that means cake and candy!"

"Friends?"

"My sister and my best friend Rin. I absolutely love them both, and tonight we're going to have the best night ever."

For some reason, the boy was blushing after she said that. "W-Well, I hope you have a nice night."

"Thanks!"

As he was about to leave, she realized that they haven't introduced themselves to each other. "Hey, wait! I'm Ruby Rose, what's your name?"

The boy hesitated for a second before replying. "Ritsuka Fujimaru."

"Bye Ritsuka!"

He smiled before waving awkwardly at her and leaving the room. Ruby hummed to herself a Halloween jingle as she continued to help clean up the party.

"Happy Birthdayween to you, happy Birthdayween to you, happy Birthdayween to dear Ruby..."

"This song is so convoluted," Rin said.

Everyone else ignored her. "Happy Birthdayween to you."

Ruby beamed and quickly blew at the Halloween themed birthday cake in front of her. "Now it's CAKE TIME!"

As everyone chatted with each other while eating their respective slices of cake, Ruby walked to where Rin was sitting and sat down next to her.

"Thanks for coming Rin."

Rin sighed but gave a small smile to Ruby. "Wouldn't miss it for the world. You gonna open my present?"

Grabbing the box from the table, she gave Rin a quick look. "Isn't it rude to open a present right in front of the person who gave it to you?"

"Who cares, just open it."

Ruby listened to her and quickly tore away the rapper and removed the lid. A high pitched squeal came out of her mouth.

"You got me cookies!" Ruby took a quick look at the wrapping and realized that she didn't see any brands on it. "Are these homemade?!"

"Y-Yeah," Rin said, her face flushed in embarrassment. "I practiced last week and got these ones made yesterday."

Ruby opened the bag and pulled out a piece. "Are these tiny Creasent Roses?"

"I also made a few Halloween themed shapes. There's a few that's shaped like your emblem, and one that looks like Yang's face."

Ruby quickly searched through the bag for that last piece and found a hilarious cookie with Yang's expression drawn with the skills of an angry elementary schooler. Ruby giggled as she bit into that one.

"Thanks, Rin... this is a great gift."

A soft smile graced Rin's face. "Happy 15th Birthdayween. This year is going to be a turning point for you, but it'll definitely be an amazing time."

"Huh? What are you saying," she playfully shoved at Rin's shoulder. "We'll have fun together, stop talking weird and eat some cake."

Rin laughed at that. "I'm just saving my stomach for some candy tonight."

Something flew in the air and straight into Rin's face. Falling slowly off of it was a mushed up piece of cake, revealing the stone-cold expression on Rin's face. Slowly turning to the direction where the cake came from, Rin and Ruby saw a frozen Yang standing next to an equally panicking Qrow, both looking like they were throwing cake at each other.

Rin's voice broke the silence. "This means war."

Ruby grinned right next to her.

Yup, Ruby's birthday is Halloween, based on the RWBY Chibi episode Happy BirthdayWeen. I don't usually watch the Chibi episodes, but there are a few gems amongst their episodes.

This takes place right before graduating from Signal and is just supposed to be a slice-of-life moment for Rin and Ruby. It also expands on Rin and Yang's playful rivalry while adding some wacky moments into it.

And that's another chapter for everyone. Happy Halloween, and make sure to wear a mask (festive and medicinal).
