Hazel had found a few totes that she filled with some extra, full gas cans. She was strapping them onto the roof of her van when she heard Dale speak. "How are you feeling?" Dale asked T dog. T dog looked his way and nodded then turned and began to walk away. Dale put down the spare part he had pulled off of a near by car and followed T dog. "T dog? I asked you how you were feeling just now." Dale said. Hazel climbed down from her van. "Please don't blow that question off." Dale said shaking his head. "It really, really hurts. It's throbbing something awful." T dog said holding his arm up for Dale. Hazel walked over. "Let me see." Dale whispered taking his arm. He slowly lifted the bandage that was now just a cloth held on by electrical tape. Hazel looked at it. "Well shit." Hazel said looking at the darkened veins surrounding the wound. Dale was covering it back up when T dog yelped and grabbed Dales hands away. "AH! Don't... Don't touch it!" He yelped. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Dale said. "Listen, your veins are very discolored. You got a hell of an infection there. You could die from blood poisoning." Dale said sternly. T dog started laughing. "Oh man." He said. "Wouldn't that be the way? World gone to hell, the dead risen up to eat the living and Theodore Douglas gets done in by a cut on his arm." He continued laughing hysterically. "Yeah, that would be... that would be fuckin stupid." Hazel said. "I've been saying since yesterday, we've gotta get you some antibiotics. We've been ransacking these cars the whole time. I can't believe that we have not found some ampicillin or something in the whole place. Can you?" Dale asked looking between Hazel and T dog. "Seems like there would be." Hazel said looking around. T dog nodded. "That's what I think." Dale said "Well... we... uh, we haven't been thorough enough. So lets look some more." Dale said patting T dog on the shoulder and looking over to Hazel. Hazel nodded. "Y'all stay close. I'll be back." Hazel said. "Where are you going?" Dale asked. "I'm going further up. Where we haven't been." She said. "I don't think that's a good idea with just the 3 of us." Dale said. "I'll be fine. Just keep watch." She said turning and walking away. "And watch my cat!" she hollered behind her.
She got to the first car, pulling out a tote bucket full of clothes, she dumped it onto the ground. she went car to car finding lots of stuff. rope, batteries, flashlights, bottled water, clothes, brushes, blankets, a variety of canned food, soap, fingerless gloves, spray paint, glow sticks, hand sanitizer, duct tape, tools, a few new knives. She found an empty framed black pack and a faded colorful cross body bag. A few bottles of Tylenol, 2 cartons worth of cigarettes, a bottle of whiskey, but no antibiotics. She headed back to the RV, with a cigarette in her mouth. It was hot, with no breeze or a cloud in the sky. Sweat poured off of her and her clothes stuck to her. Her shirt already soaked.
Dale and T dog were sitting next to the RV in the shade. T dog was smoking a cigarette from the pack he found and Dale had found a few things, he even brought back a guitar for Glenn. "Is that a cigarette, Mr. Square? Hazel asked with a smile. T dog smiled and flipped her off. Dale looked up at Hazel. "No drugs. You?" He asked, she shook her head. "I could go out and see if I could find some herbs for the infection. Might actually work for a cut." She said. "No, our group is split up enough. The last thing we need is for you to be running off out there getting yourself lost." Dale answered. She nodded and headed to her van to hide away the cigarettes and booze. "Gonna charge them girls for these." She said with a smile as she hid all the feminine products she found under her seat. Then she walked back to where the guys were sitting. Oogie came out from under the RV and began rubbing against their legs.
"What are we doing?" T dog asked. "People off in the woods, they's lookin for that poor girl and we're here. Why?" He waited for Dale to answer. Dale just looked at him confused. "Cause they think were the weakest. What are you 70?" T dog asked. "64." Dale answered, looking away. "Uh-huh, and I'm the one black guy. Realize how precarious that makes my situation?" T dog said. "What the hell are you talking about?" Dale asked. "I'm talking about 2 good-ol'-boy cowboy sheriffs and a red neck whose brother cut off his own hand because I dropped a key. Who in that scenario you think is gonna be first to get lynched?" T dog responded. "You cant be serious?" Dale said giving T dog crazy looks. "What tha hell about me?" Hazel asked, leaning on the RV next to him. "You?" he laughed. "You chose to stay. Keepin an eye on us. Makin sure we can survive." He said. She scoffed at him. "Its too fuckin hot out here for you to be actin like this." she said looking away and taking a sip from her water bottle. That's when dale chimed in. "Am I … hey am I missing something? Those cowboys have done all right by us. And if I'm not mistaken, that redneck went out of his way to save your ass... more than once." "And don't forget about Andrea. Kills her own sister." T dog replied. "Fuck off, Amy was already dead!" Said Hazel, who was starting to lose her cool. "Yeah? Then wants to blow herself up. Yeah she's all there." T dog scoffed. "She's having a tough time." Dale said. "What tha fuck is wrong with you?" Hazel asked pushing her self off the RV. "The whole world is having a tough time. Damn, man. Open you guys's eyes. Look where we are, stuck in this mess here!" T dog yelled. "Shhhhhh!" Snapped both Dale and Hazel. T dog took a breath and settled a little. "Lets … lets just go. Lets just take the RV." He said raising his hand knocking on the side of the RV behind him. "You've gone off the fuckin deep end." Said Hazel. Dale was shaking his head looking a T dog confused. "I mean it man. Why are we on the side of this road like live bait? Let's go, the three of us. Lets go before they get back." Said T dog seeming to be out of breath. Hazel angrily walked over to him. Her intention was to smack some sense into him. Dale got up and stopped her, holding her back with one arm and touched T dogs head with the other. "Oh my god, you're burning up. Give me that." Dale said pointing at the ibuprofen T dog had in his hand. "Come on." He said as he handed him the bottle. "Here take these." Dale said handing him a few of the pills. "We've got to knock that fever down." Dale said. Hazel handed him a bottle of water, Dale looked toward the tree line. "Where the hell are they?" He asked. "They'll be back soon." Hazel said.
10 minutes later, there was a scream. "What the hell?" Hazel said looking towards the tree line. She clinched the handle of her buck knife on her belt and started walking fast to the woods. "No, Hazel, stay." Dale said after her. "But they could be in trouble." Hazel said. "If you get lost it'll be worse. We need to stay together." Dale said. Hazel paced the road waiting. Another 5 mins passed and part of the group came walking out of the woods. "Where's everyone else?" Dale asked, they explained the situation. "Shot? What do you mean shot?" Dale asked, they explained about Carl and a girl on a horse came and took Lori. Dale looked at Daryl. "You let her?" He asked sternly. "Climb down out of my asshole man. Rick sent her, she knew Lori's name and Carl's." Daryl said walking past Dale towards his bike. "Well I heard screams, was that you?" Dale asked Andrea as she walked by him. "She got attacked by a walker. It was a close call." Glenn said. "Andrea are you alright?" Dale called to her, she just turned and gave him a look of disgust as she walked into the RV, slamming the door.
The small group began discussing moving on to the farm like the girl on the horse said, but Carol refused to leave on account of Sophia. Dale tried to explain they need to keep the group together. Andrea agreed with Carol, saying how awful it would be if Sophia did find her way back and they were all gone. "They're right. We cant just up and leave her." Hazel said. Daryl looked at Hazel and then at the group. "Ok, we gotta plan for this. I say tomorrow morning is soon enough to pull up stakes, give us a chance to rig a big sign, leave her some supplies." He looked over at Hazel again and back at the group. "I'll hold here tonight, stay with the RV." "If you are staying so am I." Hazel said, he looked over at her surprised. "If the RV is staying, I am too." Dale said pulling Daryl's attention back to the group. Carol thanked them. Andrea looked at Carol. "I'm in." She replied. Glenn spoke up. "Well if you're all staying then I'm..." Dale cut him off. "Not you Glenn. You're going, take Carol's Cherokee." "Me? Why is it always me?" Glenn asked with a scoff, Dale looked at him. "You have to find this farm, reconnect with our people and see what's going on. But most important, you have to get T dog there. This is not an option. That cut has gone from bad to worse. He has a very serious blood infection. Get him to that farm. See if they have any antibiotics. Because if not, T dog will die, no joke." Daryl walked over to his bike, grabbing Dale's rag off of it and opening the saddle bag. Pulling out a ziplocked bag full of what looked like crystal meth and pill bottles. He walked over to Dale and threw the dirty towel at him. "Keep your oily rags off my brothers motorcycle. Why'd you wait till now to say anything?" He said dropping the bag on the hood of Carol's car. "Got my brothers stash. Crystal, x. Don't need that." He said rummaging through the bag. "Got some kick ass pain killers." He said throwing them to Glenn, and then looked back at the bag. "Doxycycline." He said tossing it to Dale. "Not the generic stuff neither. It's first class. Merle got the clap on occasion." He said. "Of course he did." Hazel said with a smile.
Daryl walked back to his bike, Hazel following him. He looked at her as he was putting the bag back in the saddle bag. "What?" He asked looking at her. "Come here." She said pulling out an old rag she had in her back pocket and reached to wipe the dirt off his face. "What tha hell?" He said backing away from her. "What?" She asked and froze. "Don't need you takin care of me." He spat. She looked at him confused. "I'm just wiping the shit off your face! What the fuck is wrong with you?" She asked quietly, not wanting to cause a scene. He broke eye contact with her to look behind her. She turned around looking at the group going about their business. She turned back with a smile looking down. She let out a small laugh. "Are you fuckin serious?" She said looking up at him. He just stared at her. "Fine, prick." She said throwing the rag at him. "Clean yourself up. You're a fuckin mess." She said and turned to walk away. He grabbed her hand, but she pulled it away and walked off rejoining the group. Daryl watched her leave. That night as people piled into the RV to sleep, Dale took to the roof for watch. Hazel joined them in the RV, trying to save some of her battery. She always meant to install solar panels but never got the chance. Maybe one day still, she thought.
