Chapter 11: Back to the Wormhole
With their talks over and a tentative agreement
between the Dominion and the Federation on opening relations between the former enemies, the new crew of 6 transported to the Thames and made ready to leave and head back to the Wormhole coordinating with the Vorta Captain of the battle cruiser.
As they departed the System of the Founder's new homeworld, they took their place between the Cruiser and 3 Fighters in front of them. If it had been 5 years earlier, they would be waiting for their destruction. Now they knew they were safe and heading towards their destiny. As they were heading back Luna became very quiet, the trio had retired to the back cabin having a late snack then she quickly shook her partners' arms as she said: "I think the Borg are already in Dominion space, they are sending a single ship to investigate. We need to tell the others.
Within a few moments, Odo had relayed what Luna had seen through her magical vision, and in a few minutes, the Thames was inside one of the Cruiser's Shuttle bays and all the ships heading towards the battle with the invading Borg cube. They arrived as they saw some of the tech and concepts, they had given the Dominion paying dividends as they saw Cube explode.
After a few minutes of internal discussion between the Founders and their forces, they decided that the 3 Fighters would escort the Federation Runabout back to the Wormhole. The Battle Cruiser will join the rest of the Dominion Fleet. After leaving orbit with their escort Dax set course and put it on autopilot as the 6 sat down to discuss what they saw.
Dax was surprised at how well the dominion had handled the Borg cube but did say what if there were more. Kira added that she remembered reading in a secure briefing a few years ago, that the Federation ship Voyager, which was stuck in the Delta Quadrant and home to the Borg had seen fleets of between a dozen to 3 dozen Borg cubes flying right by them when the Borg had gotten into a Conflict with The Species from Fluidic Space and being beaten up quite well.
Odo corrected her in that the lifeforms are known by their Borg designation number 8472, almost lost due to the Borg Tricking the Voyager crew. "Luckily, they prevailed and used their unique weaponry and tactics to make the Borg retreat." He harrumphed as the other officers nodded. The Magicals, though briefed by Q2 still needed some clarification as they were told of the Borg but not all Q2 thought was needed for them to complete their mission.
As they talked further A bright light suddenly appeared and Dax, Kira, and Odo froze as "Q appeared.
"It seems you will need a bit of help as Sunny boy didn't anticipate the speed the Borg would act upon their insatiable need to assimilate new areas of the Galaxy. By the way, do you know that the same aspect of the Borg is true, if one of their ships is destroyed, they return in massive numbers to overwhelm whoever had done that?"
"So, do you think we will have to more directly intervene on the Gamma Quadrant's behalf?" Hermione asked as she was already thinking of ways to do just that.
"Sharp on aren't you, yes you will, and to do that I will expand the powers you have 100-fold especially your Animagus forms. The Borg will not have any way to know what you are nor how to counter your magical power's quantum signatures. So have fun and make sure these 2 get together, it's something that all "Q" wants to be done, and no I won't tell you why oh inquisitive one!" Q winked at Luna and disappeared just as quickly as he appeared.
Harry sighed as he hated it when something else had massed with his friends or himself. He shook his head as the now unfrozen Officers had realized a minute had elapsed. OK, what happened, and what are we doing next." Dax said as Odo and Kira nodded.
After an explanation from the trio, they informed their escorts to convey what should happen, and they turned around heading back to the Founder's Home system as they Surmised that the Borg would bring their retaliatory attack to the Founder's Doorstep. As they headed back the Trio discussed the Powers of their Animagus forms as they keenly knew (Thanks to Hermione) how much more powerful their magic would be.
They knew Harry's Griffin Animagus had the Strength of a lion and the sight of an eagle so that magically strengthened by 100+ meant he could do a lot of damage. But he was concerned that any animal needed air to breathe. Hermione added that if Q had strengthened them, He adjusted to breathing in space to them. Before anyone could blink Harry was gone and then a huge shape blocked out the front of the Runabout. It cleared to see a huge Griffin flying with them 'AT WARP' outside. Before any of them could react, Harry was back smiling … until both girls slapped him on the back of the head. He was then berated by both girls about being a stupid Gryffindor and not thinking before jumping, as they continued the rest was just coming out of their stupor at Harry's feat.
Odo then came up to the trio with a concerned look, he pointed out the front viewscreen and said:" You were that thing that was outside and keeping pace with us… at warp speed?"
Before he could answer that Dax was right next to the bewildered Shape-shifter." How did you DO THAT!? And a being having warp speed capabilities, that impossible?!"
Before more was asked Luna Whistled and all were watching her with various looks. She sighed and then explained what "Q" (The Dad) had done. And with Harry's dramatic show of his Animagus's potential the crew figured out reasonably fast what Hermione's Thunderbird and Luna's Nundu could do in their normal forms, now with their overpowered capabilities they knew that the Trio that Q's comments gave them a new place to try out these new powers, They strategized how they could help when Luna smiled and added a little wrinkle to their plan, she then had Dax send an encrypted subspace message to the Federation beacon on this side of the wormhole. The others simply smiled and nodded.
Into the breach
As expected, several Borg Conduit's opened within the System that Founder's Planet was located. What greeted them was a huge fleet of Jem-Hader Fighters, And Cruisers ready to slug it out with the now 40 Borg cubes that arrayed in front of the Planet. The Borg relayed their Standard Warning about assimilation, they were interrupted by 4 small ships running up behind that Cubed fleet. Then those three magical beings made their move; they apparated to the backside of the fleet and each picked a cube and were seen with tiny specs right in front of those huge ships. Then The two who had wings slammed into their respective cube like a ship going to warp as it seemed that one was spewing electricity upon the opening it made into the square ship as the other seemed to tear into the actual ship like a termite on steroids. The third simply leaped into the surface of the cube and seemed to run like a cheetah and spew a noticeable purplish gas from its mouth. All this as the two fleets engaged.
Last-minute Rescue
Within 5 minutes the once-mighty Dominion fleet was a third its former size as the Borg cubes had been halved with 20 cubes left. As they were encircling the Jem-Hadar ships three of them exploded as three tiny beings leaped for the next trio of ships. Then one, the dark feline being seemed to stop and then waved its tail to various spots surrounding the remaining Borg ships. In the next 2 minutes, 4 new fleets entered the fray Federation, Klingon, Breen, and to everyone's surprise, Ferengi had engaged the Borg, with all having the same modifications the Trio had given the Founders. The sheer number alone seemed to turn the tide as the Borg couldn't seem to carve into or destroy the ships and assimilate the crews as is their norm. Invariably within the next five minutes the New Fleets, the Modifications, and the trio had decimated a 40 Cubed Borg Fleet to one!
As the last cube was under ferocious attack The Trio were in that final ship when Hermione had an idea. She grabbed the now Human Witch and Wizard and told them her idea, they smiled and went to look for The Borg Centurion, the one drone who coordinated this cube. They found him and knew they had to be fast, so with the last of their powers they sent a very unique Patronus through the Borg Collective communications network Piggybacking in their Trans warp Conduit, directly to the Borg Queen in the Delta Quadrant! With that done they all transported back to their ship exhausted but happy as the last cube imploded. It seems Luna and not only opened portals for the fleets but a few micro black holes to do their thing! ;-)
Meanwhile back at The Borg's Unicomplex, the Borg Queen was marshaling more of her forces to send to the Gamma Quadrant as she sensed through the Collective that 40 Cubes weren't enough, she had also sensed that the collective was not supportive to this. She ignored this as she was calling for more Cubes into the Trans warp conduits headed for the Gamma Quadrant.
As she did this a smokey ghost-like antlered animal seemingly appeared in front of her. She used her security protocols to disburse or destroy this specter in front of her. As she did this the Ghostly apparition morphed into a Meggorly*! She almost fainted.
*(You see the Maggorly is our Equivalent of the Devil!)
Then the ghostly shape spoke:
"You see your future if you continue this course of action. You see some things are more powerful than you and if you do this you will be my chew toy for all eternity!"
It then smiled with a gleaming set of teeth as it faded, the teeth being the last to disappear.
And the Borg Queen blinked, then called back her forces and then went to the regeneration chamber, a 24-hour regeneration to think this out. Never in her long life had she felt this sort of feeling that she had. Fear is what the Borg were known to give to those who opposed their assimilation. It wasn't supposed to have them as a collective feel. And she now understood the Collective had seen and felt the demise of so many of their fellow drones. Even such a huge collective would be swayed by the amount of death that was conveyed to all including herself. As she slipped into her regeneration, she was hesitant … will the Maggorly be there?
In a Realm only Linear omnipotent beings could inhabit, Quincey Janeway's Dad was laughing and happy! One mistake fixed.
Respect Earned
The aftermath of the Battle of the Founders was something that reverberated throughout the Galaxy, the help that the Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers gave was not lost on the Founders nor the Dominion as a whole. The powers that came which were added to by what the Romulan and Cardassian ships sent toward the end was a turning point.
Three Quadrants now were negotiating for an expansion of Economic and social help, and the Founders had to reevaluate their views of Solids as well as how they did business. It would take time, but this at least was a start.
Within a few days the 6 that crewed The Thames finally got underway This time with a fighter from the Dominion, the Federation Starship Yelchin a Pelican class vessel, and a Bird of Prey as they made their way towards the Wormhole and their secondary Mission to save the Prophets!
Chapter 12: The Prophets among us!
Will the Trio be able to give Odo and Kira the chance of saving the Prophets or will a pah-wraith get in the way!? ;-)
