The look of shock on Peeta's face was the same on mine. I couldn't even move to help him. I was frozen in place just watching what my mother does next.

"I can't believe you!" she yells. "First you force my daughter to love you and then MARRY you and then you get her pregnant at sixteen! SIXTEEN! She is way too young to be a mother! And now you've yet again gotten her pregnant! You have ruined my daughter's life!" She goes on yelling at him and calling him all sorts of insulting names. I've finally had enough. I step in between Peeta and my angry mother.

"Stop it! Get away from him! He has done nothing wrong! I LOVE him! I was never forced to love him and I am the one who suggested marriage! We did not have Daisy on purpose! She was an accident but it is one of the best things I've ever done! I love Daisy and Peeta and this other child I'm carrying. If you can't understand that I am no longer a young girl and I can make my own decisions including who I marry and have children with, maybe we shouldn't see each other."

My last sentence shocks her.

"You are still a child," she says with an angry voice. "And I am your mother. I get to decide what you do."

"I haven't been a child since the day you tuned out and left Prim and I to fend for ourselves and I certainly haven't been a child since I went into the Games."

She doesn't respond to that. She just stands there with a look of hurt and anger on her face.

"Come on Peeta," I say. "We are leaving." I grab Peeta's hand and start to walk out of the room.

"Where are you going to go?" my mother asks.

"Home," I answer. "And then we are going to the Capitol to rescue my daughter."

Peeta and I go back to our old house in Victor's Village. I have Peeta lay down on our bed while I look at the spot where she punched him. He's starting to bruise under his right eye and on his cheek. There is no snow or ice so I can't do anything to help with the swelling.

"It's just bruised," I say. "Nothing bad."

"That's good," he says. I can tell he's in pain.

I lay down next to him and we both fall asleep in eachothers arms.
