Preface: Hello again! Hope you had a good three-day weekend like I did, wether you celebrate Yom Kippur or not! This chapter is the second-to-last real chapter, with the near-final battle! I can't believe it's already almost over! Well, that's what I get for being a frequent uploader and having few chapters. CHAOS HAVEN

Previously...as their journey through the world of Whisker Haven became more and more chaotic, Sonic, Tails, and their friends and newfound allies have loosened Metal Sonic's control more and more, finally making it onto the Death Egg Model S.

Now...Tails prepares to rejoin the others following his trip to the prison hall, with the newest freed captive.

Chapter 9:
Night of Not Quite a Thousand Robo-Sonics

The only sound you could hear in the main hallway right now were the sounds of Sonic's Genesis Nomad as the others cheered him on.

"Yeah! Way to go, Sonic!" congratulated Ray as the hedgehog won another race.

"Thanks, man!" said Sonic. "I really just want Tails to show up, though. For all I know, Metal's using this delay to make his next line of defense even better!"

"Hey, don't worry," Treasure comforted him. "No matter what he'll throw at us, we'll take care of it together."

At that moment, a ding was heard. An elevator suddenly opened up, and standing in it were Tails and a tiger cub with a blue, feather-marked headband. "So, what'd I miss?" said Tails.

Sonic ran up to him and high-fived him. "It was awesome! Metal took all of Eggman's final defenses and combined them into one!"

"Well, not sure that can top facing the Hard-Boiled Heavies again, especially with that little guy!" responded Tails, gesturing to the tiger.

Treasure and Pumpkin ran up to the cub and hugged him. "I'm so glad you're safe, Sultan!" said Pumpkin.

At that moment, Knuckles got a weird tingle in his body. He began waving his hands around. "What's wrong, Knuckles?" asked Ms. Featherbon.

"I suddenly felt Chaos energy radiating from the other end," answered the echidna.

"What's Chaos energy?" asked Pumpkin, inquisitive.

"It's a weird thing," said Sonic. "It's pretty powerful, and I heard it can turn your thoughts into power or something."

"So now that we're all together again," said Vector, "shouldn't we keep going?"

"Yeah, we've been waitin' too long!" agreed Charmy. "I'm gettin' antsy!"

And so, the group began to continue along the hallway. As they did, they couldn't help but feel something bad was going to happen.

"I can feel the energy getting stronger," said Knuckles. "We're getting close."

"That's odd," said Pumpkin, "I don't know what it feels like, and yet, I think I can feel it as well."

That caused Knuckles to stop. "I-I've never heard of that happening. But, that does remind me of something…"

Before he could clarify his thoughts for the group, however, Scratch and Grounder suddenly stepped into the room. "Ba-ha-ha!" laughed Scratch. "Guess you've finally showed up!"

"Whattya have this time, you two?" said Sonic. "Whatever it is, we're ready for it?"

"Oh, yeah?" said Grounder. "Get a load of this!" With a press of a button on his chest, a a huge rumble was heard, and before long, the heroes were staring at what they thought was an impossible sight.

"It's every single robot version of Sonic!" cried Tails. "Times two!"

Indeed, two of every single robotic version of Sonic had emerged from the shadows. There were two of the Silver Sonic robot from which Sonic had saved Tails the first time he had met the fox, two of the other robotic Sonic the hedgehog had encountered the first time he had infiltrated the Death Egg, four of the Mecha Sonic robot that had been unleashed during the Angel Island incident, two of which were powered by the Master Emerald, and, to top it all off, eight more Hyper Metal Sonics; two normal, two powered by the Chaos Emeralds, two powered by the Master Emerald, and thus in Super States, and two resembling the monstrous form into which Metal Sonic had transformed using the Phantom Ruby.

"Well, you know what they say," said Scratch as he and Grounder retreated, "the more, the merrier!"

At that moment, every single robotic Sonic began their rampage. The Silver Sonics and Robo Sonics performed their own Super Sonic Spin Attacks, the Mecha Sonics flew around, shooting energy balls, the Hyper Metal Sonics performed their usual attacks, and the Phantom Ruby-empowered ones shot their lasers and bombs.

Amy hit back a Mecha Sonic with her hammer, sending it into a Silver Sonic. "Gah! Where did Metal get these smarts?" she gritted.

Sultan tried pouncing on a Hyper Metal Sonic, but it activated its Ring Spark Field in time. "Ouch! These guys are too tough!"

Suddenly, an idea hit Sonic. He thought of when he had first arrived at Angel Island, when Knuckles had literally punched the Chaos Emeralds out of him. "Say, Knux, you think you can disable those Super Metals?" he called over.

"Maybe, but there's too many of 'em!" cried Knuckles as he punched a Mecha Sonic.

"I can take care of that!" said Sonic. Speeding around the battlefield, he caught the attention of the two Chaos-powered Hyper Metal Sonics and made sure they both faced him. Sonic then proceeded to run around both of them at max speed, creating a 'cocoon' of sorts around them. Usually, they would've been trapped, allowing Knuckles to sneak in and take care of them, but a Phantom Ruby-powered one shot a bomb into the cocoon, knocking Sonic around.

Seeing the sorry sight of Sonic being beat around, Ms. Featherbon wondered if she could perhaps perform her super speed and super strength spells at the same time. She held her wings out and chanted both spells, one after the other. Everyone suddenly felt stronger and faster at the same time.

"Ha-ha! Now we're talking!" cried Mighty. He jumped into the air and performed a Hammer Drop attack onto a Robo-Sonic, destroying it instantly.

"I knew we could count on you, Ms. Featherbon," said Treasure, happily. Now she was properly able to tangle with the robots.

Meanwhile, Knuckles climbed up the wall and glided into Sonic's remade cocoon of speed. "Okay, here comes the punch!" With a swift punch, the Chaos Emeralds were expelled from the Hyper Metal Sonics, causing them to power down.

Sonic skidded to a halt. "Huh, so those weren't powered by animals. At least we got the Chaos Emeralds!"

Pumpkin dodged a Hyper Metal Sonic's V. Maximum Overdrive Attack and inspected the emeralds. "Wow, I've never seen such beautiful gems before." She picked up the purple emerald, which strangely started to glow. She started to feel even more powerful than she already did.

With her added power, she ran up to the Master Emerald-powered Hyper Metal Sonics. She did a ballerina twirl and kicked right through both of them, despite their added Chaos energy.

"Woah!" said Ray in awe. He had never seen anything like that before.

After that, Pumpkin dove right into the Phantom Ruby-powered Hyper Metal Sonics and pulled out two Phantom Rubies, causing the robots to fall apart.

Following that, Tails and Espio finished the job by taking down the last few robots. Tails Spin Dashed through the Mecha Sonics, and Espio kicked through the final two Hyper Metal Sonics. Finally, they were all done.

"Whew! Finally!" said Sonic, wiping the sweat from his brow. "Now that was the real superpower of teamwork!" He took a notice at the rubies. "Huh, never thought I'd see you again!"

Tails froze at the sight of the rubies" "He got two more Phantom Rubies?!"

"Nah, these look more like these artificial dupes the other Eggman made called Phantom Ruby Prototypes." Sonic squeezed one tightly, and it turned to dust. "See? I told Unc about them over a phone call; he must've made blueprints that Metal peaked at." As he turned his attention to two new animals that were freed, Sonic gave himself a small pat on the back; the guilt of having caused that war briefly returned' but he did a good job at hiding it. He did, however, know he would have to face it sooner or later.

Pumpkin placed down the Chaos Emerald and caught her breath. "That was...amazing."

"Have you seen anything like that done before?" Tails inquired.

"No," said Knuckles. "But it reminds me of something that happened a while back."

"What happened?" asked Mighty.

"This...fly thing came in and said that these six girls would be able to harness the Chaos Emeralds' power once some weird catalyst of sorts occurs."

Mighty and Tails burst out laughing at Knuckles's story. "Seriously? A fly from the future?" said Tails.

Meanwhile, the others tended to the animals that had been powering the normal Hyper Metal Sonics. One was a blue bunny with a yellow bow-like tiara with a red heart-shaped gem. The other was a pink kitten with a more traditional tiara. Both seemed unconscious.

"Oh, I hope they're okay," said Ms. Featherbon, worried.

Hearing the commotion, Knuckles walked up with the Chaos Emeralds. "Let me try something…" He placed the seven emeralds around the two animals and the emeralds' power was transferred into the animals, healing them instantly.

The pink kitten woke up from her sleep. "Oh, I had a horrible dream," she said. "I was trapped in a robot shell."

"That wasn't a dream, Dreamy," said Treasure, "but don't worry, it's over now."

Pumpkin was comforting the bunny. "Thank you Pumpkin," she said, "you're the best friend a bunny could ever ask for."

"So, everyone seems okay," said Amy. "There's one more target we have to take care of: Metal himself."

"But first, we should probably get a little bit of help freeing the others," said Tails. He took out his Miles Electric and pressed the flashing icon he had resisted the urge to press until now. The face of Uncle Chuck appeared on the tablet.

"Ah, so you've activated the emergency help signal!" he said. "What is it, Tails?"

"See, there's this new Death Egg," Tails explained, "and there's a whole lot of prisoners in here. Mind coming here and helping us?"

"Ah, I've been preparing something for this occasion!" said Uncle Chuck. "I'll see you soon!" After that his transmission ended.

At that moment, Knuckles suddenly dropped to the floor in pain. Sonic ran over. "Knuckles, what is it?" he asked.

"The Master Emerald!" the echidna replied. "It's in trouble."

The echidna got up and began running down the hallway. The others followed him, determined to catch Metal Sonic before the robot could do anything else drastic. When they came to a stop, the robot was on top of the Master Emerald, surrounded by six strange rings.

"What are those things?" asked Sonic.

"Those are the Chaos Rings," said Espio.

"They're crystallized versions of the Master Emerald's power," explained Knuckles. "He's using them both at once to-"

But before Knuckles could finish, an explosion occurred, creating a hole in the vacuum of space. Metal Sonic had transformed into the monstrous form he had taken during the Isolated Island incident, with a red body, large hands, rockets instead of legs, a huge mouth. The only differences were a golden flame-like ura and a glass enclosure on his bottom side holding the Master Emerald.

"Now, Sonic, my loathsome copy," said Metal as he flew off, "prepare this world for its destruction and conquering!"

Charles searched through his laboratory for his newest invention. It would allow him to rescue the prisoners and, if need be, provide assistance against whatever dangers Sonic and his friends may be encountering.

Muttski sniffed the ground, helping out with his search. Suddenly, he began barking at a strange door.

"Ah, that's right!" said Charles. "Good boy, Muttski!" He pressed a code on a keypad and the door opened, revealing his newest creation.

It was a bus-like hovercraft, with a driver's seat and room for many people at once. He called it the Hover Bus. And it also had a laser contraption, for defensive purposes...

To be concluded...and next time: The heroes VS. Super Titan Metal Sonic!

Next chapter: It's "Panic in the Atmosphere" as Super Titan Metal Sonic prepares to finally conquer Whisker Haven! And since he has a good amount of Chaos energy, Sonic and his friends will need more than the Chaos Emeralds as-is to defeat him! The thrilling final battle of Chaos Haven!

Postface: Chapter complete! This chapter has a bit of foreshadowing for one of my upcoming projects. I won't say much about it, but I will say that it will take up the rest of my time making stories on , so it will be quite the long-runner! And if you want a kinda-sorta hint of what it will be about, tune into a certain livestream this Saturday at noon ET from a Swedish Microsoft-owned company...

Trivia time! I originally titled this chapter simply "The Final(?) Battle," but changed it to reflect the elephant in the room: I went all out featuring every single robotic Sonic doppelganger featured in the Classic era. This includes the Silver Sonic that served as the standard final boss of the Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the robo-Sonic that served as the Genesis version's penultimate boss, Mecha Sonic from Sonic 3 & Knuckles (including its Super version, achieved through the Master Emerald, Metal Sonic's Chaos Emerald-powered form from Sonic Mania Adventures: Part 5, and the monsterous form he turned into with the Phantom Ruby in his Sonic Mania boss fight after the 1.04 update. That little bit with Pumpkin and the Chaos Emerald is actually the first bit of a subplot regarding her, five other females, and that little story Knuckles had. Two more mainstream Whisker Haven characters join the fray! Berry is the pet bunny of Snow White who loves baking, and Dreamy is the kitten of Aurora from Sleeping Beauty who's a natural sleepyhead without pricking her finger and is also a good thinker (she goes by Beauty in non-Whisker Haven material). Finally, the Chaos Rings are the main macguffin in Knuckles' Chaotix. Serving as replacements for the Chaos Emeralds, they are rings infused with energy from the Master Emerald that Eggman discovers on the Newtrogic High Zone. Since an artificial 'Dark Ring' was used to turn Metal Sonic into his monstrous form for the final boss, I decided to have Metal use both them and the Master Emerald to become his monstrous form here, which was originally left unclear in the original version of this story.
