I'm doing my best to update my work quickly! First in Spanish and then in English! This year I will finish them, I promise! I would appreciate if you leave a comment !
The sun began to hide on the horizon causing an orange light. The icy cold of autumn afternoons ruffled Enji's hair as he got out of the car. He had appeared in time at the hospital for Touya's departure. After visiting his agency, and making some calls, he was able to contact a person who could help him with what he thought was the solution to the problems of his eldest son.
At reception he filled out some documents for the boy's departure and met with Dr. Nageda. Who informed him about Touya's results.
"He is apparently a healthy child, he only has a fragile build." From what I was able to talk to his wife, your other children have an ice quirk like her and don't have problems like Touya.
"Yes they are fine." Enji felt guilty. He married Rei to mix their DNA and create strong children and instead had managed to condemn his son to hell. Literally.
"Is Touya's fire is stronger than yours?" Asked the man behind the lenses of his glasses.
"Yes, at first I thought that would be good, but…."
"I understand what you means. If he had inherited yours physical strength maybe things would be different, it was bad luck"
Enji slowly walked the elevator flight to the boy's room. After talking to the doctor he had felt more guilty than he already felt before. He lightly knocked on the door and heard the voice of his wife telling him that he will come in. He poked his head out and looked at his wife and his son almost ready to go.
"You are ready?" He asked, entering.
"Almost" Answered his wife.
The boy was sitting on the edge of the bed. He was wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, clothes his mother had worn for him that morning. His wife was in front of the bed, and she was raising her knee a little so that she could take their son's foot against her and help him put the shoes on.
"I do it" Enji rushed to tell her. He was no longer wearing the sling, and although he sometimes his arm hurt he did not pay attention to it. His cast covered his entire forearm to the beginning of the back of his hand, he could move his fingers better and that was enough for him.
He indicated to her with a wave of his free hand that she sit in the chair next to him. She smiled and watched her husband put their son's shoes on and quickly tie the shoelaces. Rei mentally thanked the help. The pain in her back had returned after her husband left that morning and she did not feel comfortable. She wanted to take Touya home and rest.
Their son jumped out of bed and sighed wearily.
"I want to go home"
His mother smiled at him and struggled to her feet, which did not go unnoticed by the redhead in front of her.
"Let's go home my love." Rei patted her son's shoulder inviting him out.
Enji took the backpack off the side of the uncomfortable chair he had slept in the night before.
"Is everything here?" He asked, lifting Touya's yellow backpack.
"Yes dear, I put everything in order before you came back"
"Let's go now!", Touya interrupted his parents, demanding urgently and annoyance from the door. His arms were bandaged from hands to shoulders and he looked like an enraged little mummy.
"Take it easy" His father warned, going to the door as he followed Rei.
Touya snorted angrily as he walked out into the hall. He felt tired, sore and upset, he didn't want to be a brat, but he was good at that moment.
"I'm sick of this hospital!" He muttered. He crossed his arms in annoyance and painfull winced from the sudden movement.
"Be careful honey" His mother told him, taking his hand.
The boy's face softened and he began to walk beside his mother. Enji followed them silently as he thought about what he had been talking about that afternoon at his agency with Sato Ookido, a major manufacturer of hero gear. He wanted to be home soon and talk it with his wife.
At the Todoroki house, the younger children were already waiting for their parents, anxious and also worried about the condition of their brother. They had spent the day with the trusted staff of the house and although they did not know very well what happened, they had an idea of what must have happen to their parents and Touya to they go out so early from home and the whole day.
When they got home Fuyumi and Natsuo ran to meet them. The housekeeper, Mrs. Yoshida overtaked they to open the door.
"Welcome sir and ma'am" The woman said taking the backpack from Enji's hands, which he nodded in response.
Fuyumi and Natsuo looked at their brother and both were overcome by a familiar feeling of grief and shock. The last time they had seen their brother like this, a streak of bad days had started.
"How was everything at home?" Rei asked with a smile.
"The children had breakfast and lunch at the indicated time and the housework was done. Dinner will be ready in an hour"
Rei nodded gratefully. Her children waited in silence standing near the housekeeper waiting for her mother to find out about their day and then they could talk to her.
"I was glad, thank you Yoshida San"
The woman bowed and turned to lose herself down the hall to the kitchen.
"What happened to you brother?" Natsuo asked worried as he took a closer look at his brother with all those bandages.
Touya didn't reply and looked away with his head down. He hated being so weak and worrying everyone.
"Your brother is tired; you can talk to him later" his father intervened. Starting to walk with his wife and kids to the living room.
"How are you feeling today, Mom?"
"I'm fine darling" Rei stroked her daughter's cheek and sat next to her on the couch in the living room.
Natsuo went and sat on the other side of his mother and leaned against her. His father was looking at them from a few meters with Touya at his side.
"I'll go to my room," said the older boy.
"You feel good?" Her mother asked, uneasy about him.
"Yeah, I just want to get some sleep"
Rei nodded.
"I'll bring you dinner later, darling"
"Thank you" Touya replied and started walking away.
Enji watched his son wander down the hall, and then sat in an armchair across from his wife and his younger children.
"Rei, don't you want to go rest too?" He had in mind the image of the woman resting her hand on her back while she wasn't looking at him, and her annoyed face as she rose from the chair in Touya's room.
"I think I should lie down for a bit" She smiled as she stroked her belly.
Fuyumi could see the tiredness on her parents' face since they entered the house. She recognized the fake smile of her mother, the one with which she often wanted to hide her unease. And like her father, the girl had not overlooked the way in which she placed her hands against her back from time to time. She had seen her do that before she fell sick into bed.
"Natsuo, let's go to my room to draw"
Her brother gave her an nuisance grimace. He hid his face against their mother's side, feeling her breath and her heartbeat.
"I don't feel in mood"
"Come on Natsu" Fuyumi insisted and took him by the hand to take him with her.
"Accompany your sister, baby" Rei said stroking his hair.
The youngest Todoroki looked up and met the gray and tired eyes of his mother, however, she was smiling warmly at him.
"Okay" He drawled.
The children left, leaving Enji and his wife alone. He went and sat with her when he no longer heard the voices of their children. Rei leaned against him and put her feet up on the couch. Her husband lightly caressed the skin on her arm and then brushed some hair off her face.
"Your back hurts, doesn't it?"
She stirred against his body.
"Only a little"
"You shouldn't be demanding too much of yourself. It doesn't do you any good"
"I had to be with Touya" She replied in a reproachful tone.
"But you must also think of yourself"
She turned her face away from him. It seemed that he did not understand her concern for their child.
"Listen to me…" Enji told she, he took her chin to make her turning face a little to look directly into her eyes. "I want you to only think about yourself, don't worry about the children or me… we'll be fine. I'll take care of that"
Rei looked at him for a moment. Her husband was so different from a few months ago. He was caring, close, and he cared for her and their children. She liked this Enji, it was like before, when he was not invaded by the insane desire to surpass All Might. At some point she wondered if this would end her family and her own sanity. If they were destined for a cruel and bleak future. She thought she could relax now.
"I'll be fine, Enji"
He nodded and gently ran the palm of his hand over Rei's belly. She smiled and got to her feet with Enji's help.
They had had a long and tiring day. After having dinner with their father Fuyumi and Natsuo were sent to take a bath and then to bed without fight. Rei ate dinner in her room after taking the medicine the doctor had given her earlier for her back pain and she stayed resting. She followed the orders of her husband who told her that he would take care of everything that night.
Enji brought dinner to Touya's room and waited for it to finish to help him get ready for sleep. The boy didn't want to talk much. The sudden closeness between him and his father now made him hair stand on end. I must get used to it, he thought after Enji will turn off the lights and wish him good night he slept like long ago he
could not. His tired body relaxed against the mattress and just a moment after his father was away from, his eyes had closed heavily and he found himself dreaming. He was sure that the nightmare of his body burning would come that night again, but instead he dreamed of his brothers laughing next to him, of his mother stroking his hair as they watched the cherry blossoms fall in the courtyard from their home. He also dreamed of his father, but this time he had no resentment towards him or fear. In his dream his father watched them from afar, and he approached them little by little until they were all together in a pleasant family moment. A smile spread across Touya's sleeping face.
After leaving his eldest son's room, Enji visited Fuyumi and Natsuo's rooms to make sure they were sleeping. His daughter had fallen asleep while she was reading. His father took the book from her hands and placed it on her nightstand. He then took Fuyumi's glasses from her face and set them aside as well. He looked at her for a moment remembering everything that girl had done for him without knowing it. She was always with him, Shouto and Natsuo. She never got tired of trying to make her family normal and happy. She always tried her best, even when he had been a complete jerk. He remembered her smile when she welcomed him home and how she worries about him and cared so lovingly for her younger siblings. Enji adjust the blankets for she and went out to see the little troublemaker who had become his little assistant in those days.
He liked that Natsuo was more animated in his company and that he would approach without fear. He tried to do the best he could, he didn't want his son to grow up hating him. The youngest Todoroki slept the same way his mother had found him that morning, crossing the bed like a fallen tree in the middle of the road. His father smirked and, like his wife, adjust the body of his son on the bed and wrapped it up.
"Sleep well Natsu" he said as he left the room.
Enji felt his phone vibrate in his pants pocket followed by a small clicking sound indicating he had received a message. He looked at the screen that glowed in the darkness of the hall, read what it said, and put the phone back in his pocket. He went to his office and printed out some documents that Sato sent with information about equipment that could serve Touya. Inadvertently two hours had passed while he read, reviewed, and make notes on all the documents. He took as a referencehis own quirk to make some sketches that he forwarded to Sato. He was determined to improve the condition of his son.
When he realized the time, he left the office and went to his room, everything was dark. His wife was resting. He hadn't been able to tell her about what he had done at his agency and talked to Sato Ookido. He sat on the edge of the bed.
"Enji" he heard the soft voice of the woman behind him.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to wake you up," he told her, looking over his shoulder.
"Okay, I was waiting for you, is Touya okay?" She asked, leaning her back against the back of the bed.
"Yes, everyone is asleep now."
She turned on the lamp on her nightstand to get a better look at her husband.
"Does your back still hurt?"
"No, it's over, I just needed to rest"
"Tomorrow I'll call your doctor to come see you"
"It's not necessary Enji… I'm fine" She smiled, "Better because you don't tell me what you did after leaving the hospital this morning"
He tilted his face a little. He was leaning on his good arm as he watched her from his side of the bed.
"I talked to someone who can make some tool that Touya can use to focus his quirk"
"How about the costumes for the heroes?", She clasped her hands over her belly.
"Yes, but it will only be so that his body does not have to bear everything alone. I don't do it thinking about something else"
"I hope Touya accepts it" She said with a tired voice.
"I'll talk to him don't worry" Enji stood up. "Sleep now, I'll take a shower"
The woman nodded and settled onto the bed to sleep. Her husband watched her tuck a pillow between her legs and turned to go to the bathroom. Enji placed a plastic protector on his arm while he cursed under his breath having to use it.
As the hot water ran down his body, he thought about what had happened those days. He had not lived what happened with Touya before and he wondered if this would be good or bad, he hoped with all his might that it would be for the better. A few strands of red hair stuck to his forehead and a cloud of steam was present around him. Nor had he experienced Rei's pains in Shouto's pregnancy, that would be something that he will remember very well. He wished he weren't fixing one thing at the expense of another.
