I thought that by walking away, that'll erase what I just saw. That by admitting to myself humbly that I was simply going crazy, I'd be free of insanity.
"Nope! Nope!" was my mantra of choice as I continued walking. Edward called my name. Nope. The pixie said hi again. Double nope. Edward grabbed my arm. I pulled it back. Nope!
"I like this game!" said a magical voice. I verbally growled.
"Alice, please leave us alone," begged Edward. The thing even has a fairy sounding name.
"Nope!" said the pixie.
No. No. No!
I reached a crossroad. "Which way is to your car, Edward?" I growled.
He walked in front of me "Calm down, Bella. Why are you acting like this?"
"What? What do you mean why?" I asked, "I'm acting like this because of the fairy, that's why!"
"What fairy, Bella?" he asked me.
I glanced around and saw that the white glow was gone. That made my heart beat faster. "You know what fairy!" He raised a brow. I kept looking for the white glow "I am not crazy!" I yelled at him "You saw the fairy, too!"
Edward came up to my face and placed his hand on my shoulder "I know you're not crazy," he told me in a gentle voice. "I saw the fairy, too. Ok? I'm scared, just like you. But leaving here in a panic won't do you any good. Trust me, I learned that from experience."
He did it.
He managed to calm me down.
It was a mixture of his words, his proximity, and that delicious cologne that just made me stop running and instead, collapsed into him. "What the fuck, Edward," I needed his chest to lie down. If not, I would have collapsed on the floor. Images of the smiling fairy danced in my mind. The feelings in my chest were surreal.
Edward tensed at my embrace before melting into it. His hand naturally landed on my hair and rubbed my head. "I don't know, Isabella."
I twitched at the name. "Call me, Bella," In a matter of only an hour, Edward earned the honor of calling me by the nickname I so loved but so few knew.
"Bella," he tested out the name. It sounded so nice coming from him. His voice was rich like black velvet.
I was becoming aware of his body too intensely. The fear of the unknown bringing us together. His tall chest towered over me. Protecting me. His abs became a pillow. From this hug, I discovered that all the electricity between us came from him. I could feel the static from him. He felt magical. My hand lavished in the sensations from his body. My body began to wonder. What would the rest of his body feel like? His lips? The heat between us was already growing.
Jacob. Think of Jacob.
But I couldn't let go. This felt too right.
I looked up at him, the moon looked over his shoulders. He looked down at me, a twinkle of a star in his eyes. Like magnets, the pull towards him felt too hard to deny. Edward, on the other hand, had the strength to resist. He pulled away from me, his hand dug into his hair "Do you want me to take you home?" he asked suddenly.
Home? After all this magic? Once I get home I'll be lucky to have any freedom again. "No, it doesn't feel right," I told him. I paused "What's happening, Edward?"
He thought for a moment "I don't know,"
"But you've seen these fairies before?" That sentence sounded so unnatural, which means something coming from an actress.
He made a face and hesitated "Yeah,"
I stepped closer to him "Then what is happening?"
He made a face "I don't know...magic is real, I guess?"
"Magic is real, huh?" I huffed. The word schizophrenic flashed in my mind.
"What with the attitude? Aren't you the one who's a lead in a show about magic and vampires?"
"That's a show! Not reality!" I snapped
"Well, what do you want me to do about it?!" He snapped back.
I clenched my hands because my list of demands was strong. Fix it. Make it all go away. Get rid of this!
It frustrated me to the maximum because I knew he couldn't do anything about the fairies. I wanted to ask him if he was crazy. Could I trust him? But how could I ask him any of that stuff when I clearly saw those mythical creatures as well
"Am I crazy?" I whimpered. Because I felt it. I wanted to run away from this yet at the same time, a curiousity was blooming within me.
"Gosh, no. Bella, you're fine!" He told me a little too quickly "Let's go. We could go get dinner. See a movie. Get ice cream." he saw the look on my face "Or a salad?"
I rolled my eyes "No it's not that. It just doesn't feel right leaving."
I walked down a path that was dimly lit by the low light lamps. I was walking and feeling. Thinking. Pondering. What would Kristen Stewart, my character, do? Suddenly I felt her essence. Bravery and strength filled me.
"Let's go back," I told Edward suddenly.
"What?" he seemed dumbfounded.
"I want to go back. Let's go!" My mind was set.
We walked back to the lake in anticipation. My heart knew this was the right thing to do. Curiosity and the excitement of the unknown filled sparkle of lights were still dancing over the lake. We weren't crazy.
"Why are we doing this?" asked Edward.
"Why not?" I responded, "It's the only way to get answers."
This was a reality. I knew it was but for some reason, I felt like we were on a tv set being filmed. The setting and plot seemed like something out of a movie.
"I knew you'd be back!" Alice fluttered before us "I just knew it!"
I instinctively grabbed Edward's arm from how magically spooked I was.
"We're curious," Edward told her.
Alice smiled "So are we," We noticed the other lights weren't moving so much and instead stood still. I felt their eyes on us.
