Here's chapter nine!
He stared at the two people in front of him for what seemed like forever until he was snapped back to reality when Todd said that he had ten seconds left. He decided to choose William, still keeping in mind that the Kayla he was seeing wasn't the real one. An evil grin grew on Todd's face as he held the gun to the Kayla look-alike's head, watching the fear, anger, and sadness twist in Oliver's tortured eyes as his heart broke. Then, there was no talking him down, no way to get him to back off. He was certainly going to prison for a very long time, and Oliver knew this as the gunshot went through the head of someone he grew to love as a daughter; he was furiously upset.
The sound of the gun going off rang through the air, straight to the rest of the team's ears; they raced to Oliver's side, only to find that Oliver had already broken the necks of Todd and his goons, and cradling William in his arms as they stared at the sparking robot.
As Kara's eyes fell on the Kayla robot, she ran to her side with tears forming in her eyes. Oliver noticed her actions, along with everyone else, and told her that it wasn't the real her. He then turned to William, "Do you have any idea where she is?" he asked.
"No," William replied, still staring at the robot, and shaking crazily. "I thought it was her. Todd never left the warehouse, and he didn't say anything to the other guys about checking on anything. Do you think she's okay?"
Another three gunshots shook the warehouse district and everyone inside. Looking at each other, they decided to see what it was, though they all knew that it was shots fired.
As the team piled out of the warehouse, they stared into the night, when Felicity came onto the comms, telling them to go three warehouses to the right. They approached carefully when they noticed the figure of a man leaving; after taking him down, they stormed the large warehouse, quickly noticing the bound, lifeless body lying in the middle of the open space. Someone was able to find the light switch and flicking it upwards lit the bright, fluorescent lights running down the length of the roof; this made everyone able to see clearly.
Kara, again, ran to Kayla's side, tears pouring down her cheeks as she rolled the fallen girl onto her back, with blood dripping from the wounds to her head, abdomen, and limbs. She cradled the body of the person she felt the strongest connection towards, and everyone else used each other as comfort.
Alex and Caitlin finally had the strength to walk up to Kara and asked if they could check her out; she moved just enough to let them in, still holding onto Kayla; Caitlin checked for a pulse and surprisingly found one, then Alex pried Kayla from Kara as Clark pulled his hysterical cousin into his arms; Alex and Caitlin began chest compressions, and decided that they needed to get her back to the Fortress.
This time, Clark flew there, carrying Kayla in his arms, while everyone else was depending on Barry and Kara. Clark arrived first, set Kayla on the bed, and began hooking her up to the machines; Kara raced in with everyone else following.
Alex and Caitlin had gotten her steady, and they realized that they didn't need to do surgery to retrieve the bullets as her wound was through and through; this gave Kara a bit of relief. Alex and Caitlin set the younger Kryptonian up on the sunbed, and let her cells regenerate. But until then, she had a bandage tied around her head to stop the blood from the bullet wounds, and a plaster cast on her broken arm, as well as patches of gauze, taped over the stab wounds to her abdomen. Kara sat next to her and never left.
The following day...
Kayla had been making soft noises, usually groaning from the pain, but she was still unconscious. A feeding tube had been put into her stomach, as well as a breathing tube down her throat, just in case she took a turn for the worse and her lungs collapsed. Alex had been debating whether or not to tell Kara about her findings on Kayla's genealogy and their connection. She decided she'd do it once the younger woke up, that way both parties would know.
During this time, everyone was trying to figure out how to get General Lane out of the D.E.O. and fix the Supers', the Flash's, and the Arrow's reputations; they didn't know how to do that. If Kara came up with an idea, she would tell Kayla, though she was still unconscious. She had also noticed that Alex had been acting a little weird around her, like there was something on her mind, but couldn't tell her sister. Kara was trying to figure out what Alex was keeping from her. She had her head in her hands, and her eyes closed, when she heard a little voice coming from Kayla. She was awake and trying to tell her something. Kara called for Caitlin to come to take the breathing tube out from her throat and the feeding tube from her stomach, while she tried to get Kayla to calm down. What she was trying to say was making her frustrated. Caitlin told her that she still wouldn't be able to talk for a few more hours, so she and Kara were trying to figure out a way for her to communicate; blinking was an option, but that seemed only enough for yes and no; writing could be an option if she could fight through the pain in her arms; Kayla could mouth the words and Kara could try to read her lips. The three, including Kayla, decided on the writing method; Kara grabbed a pen and paper, and handed it to her; she wrote:
Todd. City. Bomb. 5:15 pm.
A/N: So, there's only one more chapter left! I am also writing another superhero story, but instead of Supergirl, it is the Avengers. Kepp an eye out for that.
