Thanks to Flame girl 123, Chaseylover, Bristlefrost, MoonlightMystery13.3 and Kittyperry for the reviews! :)
I don't quite know how I feel about this one, but it's what popped up in my head for the prompt, so... It's a tag to "Bionic Showdown".
ENJOY!
No 12. Broken Trust (275 words)
Mr. Davenport isn't our father.
The thought had been circling around Chase's head since the whole showdown with Marcus and Douglas, haunting him. It was always, inevitably followed by another.
Mr. Davenport lied.
Somehow the first one paled in comparison to that.
Mr. Davenport had never really been the parental type, nor Chase and his siblings anywhere near normal kids. But it had been fine. It wasn't like they had known anything different anyway. Plus, Mr. Davenport had always been there. A constant guide, a secure presence throughout their childhood. He'd been what they needed, and for all its purposes, a father – their father.
But now... Everything Chase thought he'd known about the man and even his own life was a lie. Mr. Davenport wasn't technically their father, hadn't made them. Them becoming bionic heroes had been an afterthought, a backup plan. The very reason for his existence was a lie.
Yet life continued on. Almost as if nothing had happened. Their family continued on as it had been before. Mr. Davenport was still their father.
Of course he was! Mr. Davenport was a good father, Chase knew that. And their lives would have been so much worse if Douglas had raised them. Douglas might have made them what they were, but Mr. Davenport had made them who they were. He'd been the one who raised them, who cared for them. He was their father. Chase could even understand why the man had told the lies he did.
In every way that mattered, Mr. Davenport was and would always be his father, but Chase still couldn't help but feel like something had broken that day.
