-Chapter 7- Austin's truth

Jade stood staring at Austin in shock and bewilderment. Finally speaking as Austin let her take time to process asking him how did he know she was his sister. He let out a small laugh and asked Jade how did anyone know anybody, not impressed she got Austin's attention by making him face her and tell him that he better not be full of it. Austin put his hands up and offered to tell Jade the truth but on the condition of not repeating it to another soul. Jade agreed even though she wanted to tell Eada she had to know the truth and then work out a solution.

Austin then began that he was born a Vendetta and in fact for the first 7 years of his life grew up in the household with Eada. Jade had so many questions already but let Austin continue as he told her that Eada was always the favourite as she shared the same views of her parents berating faunus left and right even the ones they didn't know. He had gotten in trouble so many times with his parents for making a friend with a faunus and was seen playing games with them, they treated Eada as if everything she did was perfect.

When they were 7 their parents announced a holiday to Vacuo for a special vacation that year, of course being 7 Austin had no second thought and wanted to see what another Kingdom was like. Vacuo was the exact opposite of Atlas being hot and had no order like Atlas but Austin didn't mind as the family had gone to the beach, Austin's favourite place at the beach was always in the water and you could never get him out until it was time to go or when he got hungry. Eventually Austin got out of the water walking to the spot where he thought his family had left their belongings but when he got there all he could see were his bag of clothes.

Looking around trying to find his Mother, Father and even Eada it finally dawned on him that his family had left without him as he inspected inside his bag finding a note just saying that he wasn't fit to be in the family. Austin had clothes and some food as the next few days he spent alone and living under the pier and on the 3rd day he was found by his parents Frank and Helena Avery who took him in, were patient with him as he didn't trust them straight away. Until he was adopted officially and having lived with them he began to trust again and told them the story he was telling now.

He learnt growing up that Helena couldn't have kids even though they had wanted one it seemed to work out. Austin couldn't believe his luck and he had been right as a kid that not all faunus were bad people as Frank and Helena took him in and treated him with such care that he forgot the name Vendetta as he truly was an Avery. Jade then asked at the end of the story as why he didn't go to the authorities as Austin replied that he didn't know what to do at that time and the note was clear to even a 7 year old that they didn't want him.

Austin then continued, if you ask Eada or the people that abandoned me the official story they came up with was I ran away during the holiday and they had to return for business but were glued to the phone hoping that their baby boy would come home. Austin scoffed reminding himself of the news he had seen with his biologic parents pretending they wanted him back. Austin then guessed that Eada being 7 would actually believe I did run away as Eada treated him like her parents did and look how she turned out.

Jade hugged Austin on the rooftop, it was just them as Jade could not believe everything Austin had been through and she sensed there was more but thanking Austin for telling her his story as tears welled in her eyes, sad that something that bad could be done to a 7 year old. Austin held Jade, looking into her eyes and smiled saying it worked out for the best as if he went back he to may be a bigot like Eada and he didn't want that.

Daisy had made her way to the roof's stairs as she climbed, she had been doing a lot of thinking as she walked around the campus and looking into the horizon from a high advantage point was one of the best memories she had as she had done it multiple times back home in Higanbana. She opened the door, stepping onto the roof stopping in her tracks and just watching Jade and Austin embracing each other before they kissed once more like she saw them the first night they had kissed.

Daisy had completely witnessed a kiss for the 2nd time both by a fluke as the first time she went to catch up and hope Austin would teach her some combat techniques like Jade, seeing them kiss she didn't want to intrude on the moment and left hoping she hadn't been seen. Nobody had said anything before but now she just stood there watching them two. They pulled apart but still in a close embrace, Daisy stepped back and quietly shut the door not knowing Austin had seen her standing there.

Jade then asked Austin if he would ever reveal to Eada that he was his brother, he shrugged and said that he wasn't sure and right now wasn't planning on it. Jade tried to convince Austin to do so saying it may be better for the team if he did and tried to make him feel guilty as she had told us that she was searching for her younger brother. Austin had a come back already saying his name was Austin, from Vacuo with silver eyes, how many Austin's did she know that match that description and maybe just maybe he didn't want to be found especially now knowing what she is like.

Jade admitted defeat but still told Austin that he should tell her but pretty much knew it wasn't going to happen and she always kept her word so she wouldn't tell anyone, they walked back hand in hand as they gave that a go seeing what it'd be like showing affection for each other but didn't work out that great however they did both agree they actually hadn't been on a date yet. Getting back to the dorm Eada was still hiding there and her curtains drawn as usual. Daisy wasn't there and Jade thought that she may be at the library.

Eada tore her curtain open and pointed at Austin yelling at him asking why he pushed her out of the arena today. Austin had responded back snapping at her angry that she still hadn't learnt. Austin chose to shout back having very thin patience with Eada telling her it was of her faunus remark, Eada tried to defend her way and each faunus she knew couldn't be trusted. Austin reveals that she doesn't give them a chance of trust and assumes every faunus is untrustworthy which is not true at all then makes the case of Daisy.

Daisy had lived in the same dorm and nobody is missing any items, she stays away from you not to upset you, she would like to be friends but friendship is a two way street. Jade butts in and facing Austin she says she's deal with it being the leader as Austin was happy to give up and not deal with Eada if he didn't have to. Jade then faced Eada asking if the two could go for a walk together and talk just the two of them. Eada agreed to get away from Austin. The two left and Austin went to the bathroom for a shower.

Daisy returned from the Dining Hall, she had dinner alone and pulled her curtains shut before heading off to sleep. When Austin came out he noticed Daisy had returned and kept quiet and not disturb her and let her have her privacy. He opened up his textbook and began studying waiting for his hair to dry. He had the feeling that Daisy was still awake so he spoke to the room saying he would treat Jade with respect and try his best to do everything right and not try command all of her attention.

Daisy didn't speak but she absorbed his words as she lay on her bed awake with Austin studying. The evening was settling in and Jade and Eada had just made it to the Dining Hall to get some food as Eada and Jade chatted over dinner. Jade was doing her best to include Eada, even if it was just herself she'd talk to would be a sign of progress also how everyone doesn't think faunus are untrustworthy or filthy. There are some bad faunus but bad people too and trying to get Eada more open and to give Daisy a chance and delivered the news that Austin was after Jade and he would never have eyes for her.

Eada didn't agree with that thinking Austin is only going after Jade to make her jealous and if she were team leader the situation would be reversed. Eada was really deep in denial that she was the centre of attention and she challenged Jade that she could get the team to communicate and work better herself. Jade had called her bluff, getting up after they had finished the two walked back to the dorm with Jade eager to show how Eada was viewed by her team. Upon arrival they found Austin studying and Daisy's curtain drawn.

Jade asked if Daisy was awake as Austin shrugged, Daisy piped up and just said she was getting changed for bed. Jade told her to take her time but to come out for a quick team meeting afterwards, when Daisy drew her curtain open sitting on her bed Austin stopped studying but had a quick wink to Daisy to let her know he would go along with the changing clothes story she just gave and would keep quiet about how she had been hiding behind the curtain since Austin was there. Jade then told the group that Eada thought she could do a better job at team leader and for now until tomorrow we are to follow the advice and orders of Eada. Daisy looked at Jade then at Eada, Austin just began laughing.

Jade was being serious and Daisy being nervous partially agreed with the idea as Austin was not going to take orders from her. Jade handed everything to Eada as she then tried to get everyone's attention to continue the team meeting. Jade had sat on Daisy's bed and Daisy had moved herself behind Jade, Austin on the other hand went back to studying ignoring everything Eada was saying. Jade saw how easily she lost the room as she went over to Austin and took his textbook and wouldn't give it back.

Austin warned her to give it back or would take it back. Eada made the counter to say only if he listened to her, Austin lost patience and grabbing Eada's arm he twisted it behind her back causing some pain. With his free hand he snatched his book out of Eada's other hand and let go of her arm which she began rubbing. As Austin sat back down to study he murmured to himself leader of the year everyone, mocking Eada.

Eada was furious and turned to Daisy yelling at her to get Austin to listen, Jade stepped in front of Eada telling her not to talk to her like that and Austin had gotten up to, glaring at Eada he then announced he wasn't putting up with this for the night and left to go sleep out in the tree once again. Jade made sure Daisy was ok as Eada shut her curtains thinking how they didn't show her respect and laying on her bed.

Daisy and Jade talked among themselves before going to bed and Austin stayed true to his word sleeping in the tree, he had messaged Jade earlier making sure she didn't tell anyone Eada was his sister, Jade said she had kept her promise and was trying to get Eada to act like a team member and hopefully stop with this attitude.
