Glad I got this one out before 2020 ended. Next year should be more relaxing, both in terms of schooling and in terms of (hopefully) the state of the world in relation to viruses and the like.
As 2020 is coming to a close, I want to thank each and every person to check out my stores, leave reviews, and help me grow on this platform. I owe it to everyone who has ever interacted with my stories, so thank you all!
Enjoy!

XxXxXxX - Flashback - XxXxXxX
The sounds of combat filled the air as Nayru clashed with her foe, her black dress like body flowing as she landed elegantly on her feet after dodging away from a psychic blast. Her orange eyes, which seemed more focused in her Mega Evolved state, locked onto her opponent, and while her body almost tensed up looking at the beast, she remained calm.
Mewtwo snarled a little, the wild legendary not at all pleased with intruders in the cave that he had claimed as his own. With a roar, he held out his hands and a cluster of stars formed within them, before launching forward towards his opponent. Nayru braced herself, taking the brunt of the attack as she all too well knew that Swift never missed, and would track her indefinitely if it had to, but the high special defense that she had thanks to her Mega Evolved state let her take the attack without worry, her arms lowering once the attack ended.
"Shadow Ball!" Wes called out from behind her. Nayru obeyed immediately, forming what looked like a chaotic orb of black and purple energy, which flew towards her opponent once she launched it. Mewtwo barely had time to react, taking the brunt of the blow and letting out a cry of pain, though he was still standing once the attack ended. This did not surprise Wes, who despite knowing that trained Pokemon were stronger than their wild counter-parts, also knew the creature he was facing was no joke, and was more then strong enough to give them a good fight.
Mewtwo let out another roar, and this time held out his hand and formed what looked like an orb of Psychic energy, and immediately Wes knew what was coming. The move looked similar to Psyshock, only a lot more powerful, and instantly he knew that Mewtwo had figured out Nayru was weaker defensively, and was preparing the signature Psystrike move that Giovanni had told him about. Mewtwo then pushed forward, and the energy broke apart into what looked like several glass shared, shooting out and slamming into Nayru, who was sent flying into a wall of the cave and slumped down. For a moment, it looked like Mewtwo had won, but thanks to resisting the Psychic-typing, Nayru slowly stood back up and faced her opponent, determination filling her face.
"Mystical Fire!" Wes ordered, and Nayru immediately twirled around, shooting flames out and directing them towards her opponent. Mewtwo once again was forced to take the attack, though it didn't do as much as the Shadow Ball before it, though that is not what Wes was aiming for. Sure enough, when Mewtwo attacked with another Psystrike, it didn't look as strong as before, and Wes knew the special attack weakening effect that Mystical Fire could cause took it's toll on the legendary.
Wes knew it was time for the final strike. As Mewtwo charged forward, possibly realizing he needed to physically attack, Wes called out "Hyper Voice!". Nayru let out the signature screams, which concentrated into pink sound like waves which slammed into Mewtwo and sent the psychic-type colliding with the wall. In the light of the flames that were burning from Nayru's Mystical Fire attack, Wes could see the legendary panting, struggling to stand back up, but only managing to get onto it's knees before the strength was gone.
"Catch it!" Nayru shouted back at Wes, looking over her shoulder at him. "Hurry, before it uses Recover!"
At first, Wes complied, reaching into his pocket and grabbing an Ultra Ball that he had ready, but stopped just short of throwing the ball. The words of everyone in the past talking about Mewtwo echoing in his mind, how Jason said that it was too powerful to control, and Looker saying that even Red did not dare wield the power of this creature for long. In that moment, Wes seemed to understand something, and shrunk the Ultra Ball back to small size and pocketing it. "No... Mewtwo should remain free."
"W-what!?" Nayru asked in shock, as Mewtwo closed it's eyes and was surrounded by a white glow, the wounds on the creature fading. "B-but-"
"If we catch it, we will just be confining it to a life that Mewtwo clearly doesn't want", Wes stated, looking over at the cave wall. "This is where Mewtwo wants to say, it does not want to be controlled by humans. We only came here to test our plan against Mewtwo, remember?"
"But wouldn't Mewtwo be beneficial in beating that other Mewtwo?" Nayru asked.
"With some training, perhaps", Wes replied honestly. "But it would take some training to get Mewtwo to listen to me, and besides, what is the guarantee we could get it that strong, let along to bond with me enough to Mega Evolve if I requested it to." Wes looked over at Mewtwo, who was now standing upright, eyeing them with caution as it listened to their conversation. "Thank you... I'm sorry that we bothered you. You're very strong, and I appreciate the training session." Wes sent out Sakura then, and with a single gesture, she doused the flames that were still burning from the aftermath of their battle. Nayru turned back to normal, since they were no longer battling, and they turned to leave, sensing that Mewtwo's eyes were still on them the entire time they were walking away.
As they neared the entrance to the cave however, and their eyes adjusted to the light pouring in, they could see a giant, red sea-serpent looking Pokemon, its mouth open and eyes narrowed in a glare. Instantly recognizing the creature, Nayru turned to Wes with wide eyes. "Gyarados aren't wild around here, are they?"
"No", Wes said, his eyes narrowing at the creature. "So that Gyarados is either owned by Misty, or... ah hell, not him."
"Agent Silver, I take it?" the pink haired, cape wearing trainer that was standing on the shiny Gyarados' back spoke, glaring at the teenager. "I need to have a word with you."

"Hello, and welcome to Rotom-Phone Inc!" the blonde woman at the door, looking like she was no older then they were, enthusiastically spoke. "What can I do for you two, handsome young gentlemen today?"
Jason seemed immediately tense, and Wes was almost worried that he was going to bolt, however, all he did was give the blonde a weird look before looking around the store, eyeing the various devices that were on display, as well as the color options that were being shown off. "...all of these are Rotom?"
"Well, they will be!" the woman spoke again, causing Jason to pale. "We don't actually merge the Rotom with the device until it is registered to your account, and then- hey, are you ok?"
"You'll have to forgive my friend here, he's... shy", Wes immediately piped up, standing between Jason and the blonde employee, which the amnesiac seemed incredibly thankful for, as the tension in his shoulders seemed to vanish a bit. "But we are here because we are replacing my friends three year old smart phone. He's been away for awhile in the wilderness, researching Pokemon."
At the lie, Jason huffed, but said nothing as he understood why the lie needed to be told in the first place. Wes glanced at him for a moment before continuing, "His old device has been left uncharged the entire time. I was thinking we can just take his SIM card out and put it into the new phones, if that is possible."
"Absolutely!" the girl cheerfully said, taking the old smart phone and popping out the small chip without missing a single beat. "Now, Rotoms maybe orange, but they can be outfitted into any color case you so wish! Orange is the most basic and the cheapest, since we literally don't need to do much other then let the Rotom's natural possession color shine through, but the more expensive options let you customize the color."
Jason looked confused for a moment, before remembering that he saw Wes' Rotom-Phone back in the forest briefly, and it was black in coloration. Kris' Rotom-Phone was also briefly seen by the older trainer, and he recalled it being a pink color. "Then... I would like a green one, if that is okay."
"One green Rotom-Phone coming up!" she replied, and with a cheerful skip headed towards the backroom with the dead phone and SIM Card.
Jason turned to Wes, his expression showing nothing but panic. "I don't like that look in her eye... she's staring at me like a hungry Buzzwole", he whispered to the officer.
"Don't worry, as soon as we're done here, you'll never have to see her again", the silver-haired agent assured, while Nayru covered her mouth behind her master, shaking a little with silent laughter.
Moments later, the girl returned, unboxing the shell device and sliding Jason's SIM Card into it, and Wes could see a single Rotom hovering behind her, the signature, everlasting grin of the Pokemon beaming at them. The very presence of the electric and ghost type caused Jason's expression to go from tense to curious, his mind finally about to receive the answers as to what a Rotom-Phone was.
"Alright, your Rotom's registration number has been linked to your account", the girl replied, turning and nodding at the Rotom. "Now, if you would please!"
Rotom nodded, and at once flew into the device and merged with it, causing the screen to instantly light up and come to life. The device instantly left the girl's hand, flying into the air in front of Jason and instantly bringing up the multitude of applications already pre-loaded, as well as looking like it was starting to load Jason's former applications as well. "Greetings, User Jason! I am Rotom-Phone, and I will be your virtual assistant from now on! I can handle all your needs, from sending text messages and alerting you when you get phone calls, to taking hands-free pictures and loading PokeDex information for you! My benefits to normal Smart Phones of the past include never needing to be charged since I not only function as the Artificial Intelligence, but the electrical current for the device, as well as other benefits such as monitoring the entire device to prevent hacking, and adapting to your exact schedule and needs! It seems like you were already pre-approved for the PokeDex functionality, so I will be slowly copying all your data from that PokeDex in your pocket to my database!"
Jason blinked in surprise, before taking out the device in question, looking like he had forgotten it was even there. And it was quite possible he actually did. "Thank you, but.. are you really ok with being in there?"
"Rotom-Phone Inc makes sure all Rotom used in the process of building and selling Rotom-Phones are 100% ok with being virtual assistants and not wild or trainer Pokemon!" the phone replied, earning himself a nod from his new partner, who relaxed more now that he knew his new companion was ok with this. "Now, I am linking myself to the cellular communications database and... oh my, it seems like you have multiple unread text messages, Master Jason! You have five from a contact called "Cynthia", 3 from a contact named "Diantha", and... 1095 messages from a contact called "Em" with a Heart-Emoji at the end!"
"I... what?" Jason asked, confusion once again filling him.
"Well, I take it the first two were wondering where you went, after all Cynthia and Diantha didn't find out until a bit after your disappearance that you went missing", Wes explained. "As for Em, well... she's your girlfriend."
The blonde employee looked a bit crest-fallen at that, possibly wanting to somehow get with the shy Jason. The boy in question, however, only blankly stared at Wes for a few moments before he just muttered a simple "why?". Wes looked blankly at Jason, and the amnesiac continued. "Why is she dating me? I don't really do the whole 'people' thing, so how did it even happen in the first place?"
"...you know, I never really figured out how you two met and started dating", Wes replied. "All I know is that it has something to do with a Legendary Pokemon from Kalos... well, thank you miss. I can pay for all the charges myself." As Wes walked off with the employee, looking a bit uncomfortable since now that Jason was deemed taken, the girl had decided to walk next to Wes closely while giving him a flirty state
After said purchase was complete, Wes and Jason began walking around the city towards the entrance of Route 4, where they meet up with Kris, who was grinning widely with a larger monkey Pokemon at her side, which Wes instantly recognized as Monferno. With a peace sign, her held up her newly acquired badge with pride. "And that is three down, and a newly evolved Pokemon under my belt!"
"You're welcome", Wes stated, looking back at Jason. Strangely, he found the boy was staring intensely at the green phone that was floating in front of him, almost as if he was reading a good book. Deciding it was not worth stopping Jason from reading Em's messages however, he gestured towards Kris to start heading towards Nimbasa City, with Jason following after in silence.
The entire walk down Route 4 was not that eventful, with Wes lost in his own thoughts while leading the pack, and Jason silently reading through each of the three years worth of text messages that Em had sent his way. Kris, in an effort to break the silence, wondered off on her own for awhile, only to return with a fossil that Wes immediately reprimanded her for taking, though after some argument back and forth, he allowed her to keep the fossil, which caught the attention of Jason once she walked up to him and asked him to identify the fossil that she had found.
"It looks like a Plume Fossil", the quiet boy said simply. "If you can find someone to help, that'll be an Archen, a rock/flying type."
"I think the International Police HQ has a resurrection machine", Wes commented, irritated that she had wandered off, but sighing in an effort to forget it happened. "Once we get to Nimbasa, we will figure it out."
Kris looked at Wes with a sheepish grin, before turning back to Jason. She expected the boy to be more interested in the fossil that she had found, but instead found his nose buried back in his phone screen like it had been for the past hour. "...whatcha reading?"
"All of Em's texts", he stated. "She's... pouring a lot of detail in these... it seems she traveled with me in Kalos."
"She did", Wes replied, ignoring Kris' question of 'who is Em?'. "After you left Unova, you headed towards Kalos and met up with her. I'm not sure on all the details, and if she is pouring a lot into those messages, you probably know more about it then I do at this point."
"Who's Em?" Kris asked impatiently, unhappy that she was ignored the first time.
"... apparently, she's my girlfriend", Jason hesitantly said. A silence filled the air, as Kris looked both from Wes to Jason rapidly. Finally, her mouth fell open, and she let out a "HUH!?".
"He isn't lying", Wes stated.
"Him having a girlfriend is about as likely as Pokemon Fusion!"
At that, Wes gave a loud cough, turning away and gesturing them to keep moving. Kris, confused, followed after him and began demanding an answer, as Wes seemed to know something that she didn't, again. Jason, giving a sigh at the weird antics, followed after them again, ignoring them until finally Kris gave up and turned her attention back to Jason.
"Did you get messages from anyone else? You've been gone for three years apparently, so someone other then this girlfriend of yours was bound to message you, right?"
"Only two other people... I guess I wasn't popular", Jason stated calmly, closing his current message to go to his contact list. Then he blinked, seeing a bunch of names on the list. "... or, maybe I was...? Anyway, I got a few from two ladies... let's see... Cynthia and Diantha."
"Wait..." Kris said, her mouth once again in shock. "THE Cynthia? The strongest champion in the world!? ("I wouldn't say that", Wes retorted) Why is she messaging you!?"
Jason stared at Kris, looking a bit uncomfortable with her shock, but soon he opened up the messages she sent him. "Apparently, she was in some... distress when I vanished... something about 'needing a replacement for the Kalos League'... and then something about 'Diantha filling in for you'. And Diantha... well, she seemed very upset at my disappearance... her first text is full of angry threats and curse words."
Kris immediately turned to Wes, a demand for an explanation on her face. Wes, blinking once, realized that he had left a very important detail out about Jason. "Oh... I guess I forgot to mention that Jason was Champion of Kalos at the time of his disappearance."
"HE WAS!?"
"I WAS!?"
Wes, blinking at both of them, their expressions a mixture of anger, shock and awe. "Uh... sorry I forgot to mention it?"
"You are so scatter brained sometimes, master", Nayru spoke at once. "Yes, Jason was Champion of the Kalos League after traveling with Em, a position that I believe he held for about a year until... well, he vanished."
"I don't recall you ever bringing it up, Ms. 'Scatterbrain'", Wes retorted to Nayru's previous comment, grumbling.
Jason seemed to slowly process exactly what he heard, and soon his expression faded to the usual, monotone impassiveness. "I... guess I can see that... but... why would I want to be a champion?"
At that, Wes blinked, looking over at Jason with a quizzical look. "Do... you not want to be champion?"
Jason thought about it, as if he was piecing something together in his head. "Well... if I was a champion, then that means it's my job to watch over the region, right? I would only get to leave for short vacations... and if I was out on a longer, personal project, that meant they could call me back in to take on any challengers that wanted to try and take my title. I wouldn't get a lot of freedom... and certainly not a lot of time with any wild pokemon."
Wes blinked as silence fell between them once again, turning back to look forward on the road that they were traveling down. At that moment, another connection of understanding seemed to form between the two of them, with Wes knowing exactly how Jason must feel with the lack of freedoms Champion would give a trainer. Rose, in the three years that she was Champion of Alola, was so busy that it was a miracle that she even had any personal time to herself at all, and while it was true that Jason was their student teacher in Alola, it explained the infrequent trips that sometimes brought him out of the school life for days at a time. Wes couldn't imagine the stress that it would bring to someone.
"Nimbasa City", Wes finally said, his thoughts being interrupted by the Route Gate that they had just passed through.
"GYM TIME!" Kris shouted, only to immediately be grabbed by Wes.
"No", he sternly said. "We're spending a few days here, so I want you to actually train up. I think evolving your Snivy so it stands a better chance against the Electric gym is your first priority."
"Oh come on", Kris shouted back, glaring. "It's an electric gym! How hard can it be?"
And while Wes started to lecture her about how useful and powerful Electric Pokemon actually were, Jason couldn't help but look around. The area felt so familiar to him, and he knew why having traveled through Unova before, yet his lack of memories made it frustrating. To him, it felt like he was watching a movie he had completely forgotten about, and while things seemed familiar and safe, it was also laced with a twinge of uncertainty. From the bustle of people, to the pokemon, such as the rogue Sandile from Route 4, the Trubbish over by Route 16, or the Bulbasaur from-
Jason blinked, staring directly at the pokemon in question. He may not remember a lot about the region itself, but he knew that Bulbasaur were rare, even in the native Kanto, and were certainly not native to Unova. While Wes and Kris continued to argue over what the newbie trainer should do, he silently walked after the grass-type in question, curious to see where it was going or why it was here, unaware of the footprint left behind by the Kanto starter.
"-and unless you have ever met Lt. Surge, you don't know what a Thunderbolt feels like!"
"Ok, ok, I get it!" Kris sighed, shaking her head. "Raichu doesn't sound like a joke."
"Maple's Thunderbolts are worse..." Wes muttered. "That little rat shocked me twice and I still cringe thinking about it."
Before Kris could ask who Maple was, Nayru cleared her throat. "I don't mean to interrupt, but Jason just wandered off again."
"Oh for the love of..." Wes muttered, turning and looking around. "Do you know where he went this time?"
"I saw him walking off that way, following what looked like a very familiar looking cabbage."
"A what!?" Kris asked, confused. Wes, however, immediately looked down and saw the footprint that was left behind by the Kanto starter.
"... Chloe?"
XxXxXxX
"You're an affectionate little thing, aren't you?"
Jason had followed the bulbasaur in question to Nimbasa's amusement park, and while the noise from the rides didn't help him, thankfully there was a natural setting with trees and a few benches he could rest at. When the starter had spotted him, it suddenly bounded over, looking incredibly happy, and would not leave him alone. So, he sat down with it, petting it's head gently while it hopped into his lap, obviously loving the attention.
"Well, obviously you're not a wild Bulbasaur", Jason stated, giving the seed pokemon a gentle smile. "But, I'm pretty sure I'm not your trainer... so, why are you so willing to come near me?"
"Bulby, where did you go?" a familiar voice suddenly rang out. Jason looked up to see a ebony skinned girl with dark blue hair looking around in a bit of a panic, holding one of her hands to her forehead to block out the sunlight. She had on a white, long sleeved shirt with blue jeans and high platformed boots. The bulbasaur, now dubbed Bulby, let out a cry that caught her attention. "There you are, what are you doing sitting on... Jason?"
The amnesiac blinked, looking up at her. While she obviously recognized him, his own gaze was filled with confusion. "You... know me?" he asked her. Then he looked down at the seed pokemon again. "So, this is your Bulbasaur, I take it?"
"Yes", the brown eyed teen said nervously, her gaze not leaving him. "But why don't you... oh, right, Wes did say..."
He blinked at the name, looking back up at her. "So... you know him, too..." He looked down, feeling ashamed, though he wasn't fully sure why. "I'm... sorry. I don't remember you at all, miss. I have... amnesia, I think they said..."
The girl gave a nod, sighing a little. "You were my teacher in Alola... Wes and Rose were taught by you as well, but that was years ago, and I haven't seen them since Wes began looking for you. Well, I guess it would help if you knew my name then... it's Chloe."
For a moment, Jason thought nothing of the name. But then a flash of familiarity filled his gaze, and he looked up at her. He gently picked up Bulby, before moving him over to the side, so he could lean forward as he stood up.
"... you're a Faller", he said simply.
Chloe blinked in shock, "Y-yes! H-how did you know?"
Jason gave a short sigh, thinking. He closed his eyes. "Bulby is your first pokemon... and pretty much was your only pokemon... you were one of my smarter kids... you were kidnapped by Team Skull... I was... so worried..." He gave a short breath of relief. "And... that crazy lady... I can't remember her, but... she told us about you and... someone else. You're from another dimension..." That was when he finally opened his eyes, and for once, he gave her a warm smile. "And... look at you now... you've grown up into a beautiful woman, haven't you?"
A small blush filled Chloe's face. "How did you suddenly remember all that? Uh, yeah... I am, and so is Wes, we're both fallers from alternate dimensions. Lusamine told us everything when they came to rescue me... but, I though you..."
"It's... hard to explain", Jason said, looking at Bulby. "I have... some of my memories. Not all of them, obviously... I can't remember a lot, but... I have my pokemon from this region, and you, and..." That was when his face fell. The sound of a bottle smashing played in his head, of angry yells and pain flooding his senses. He swallowed slowly, calming himself down. "... well, let's just say that... not all of them are happy."
Chloe nodded sadly, looking a bit worried about what her next choice of words might cause. "Have... you remembered anything about your girlfriend, Em?"
That made him blink, before shaking his head. "Honestly... I still can't believe that, apparently, I have a girlfriend... but she has been texting my phone, by the look of it..." He gave a slow sigh, looking at his hands. "It's frustrating... I feel like... I'm staring at a puzzle. And all the pieces are there. And I know how they should be put together. But... I can't make them fit." He looked up at Chloe again. "Sometimes, things just... click. But for other things... it's like fitting a square inside of a circle-shaped hole that's only half as big as the piece I have."
Chloe gave a nod, thinking long and hard. "Well... maybe texting her back might help a little? I know you might not want to see her right now, but perhaps just reaching out to her and letting her know that you are ok will help somewhat, ya know?"
Jason thought about that, bringing a hand to his chin. "... I don't think it'll help me, per say, but..." He made a decision. "Then, perhaps tonight. She at least deserves to know that I'm not lost anymore... and hopefully it'll help her feel better. From what I read, she... really misses me."
"Believe me, when you can't see the one you love, it is one of the most painful things in the world..." Chloe muttered, shaking her head, before muttering "sucks even more when you know they'll never reciprocate those feelings".
Jason blinked, before giving her a sympathetic smile. "... to be fair, you had a lot of chances to tell him, but you were way too shy to actually try. I think if you met him now, no other girl would stand a chance."
"Yeah, but that's if he didn't have-" her face suddenly lit up red, and Jason had to turn to see why. Walking into view at that point were Wes, Nayru and Kris, the younger girl looking very confused at Chloe.
"I figured that you'd be here", Wes muttered, before looking at Chloe. "Chloe."
"H-h-hi", Chloe barely managed to get out, the sight of the older, more muscular Wes causing her face to turn scarlet.
"I think she still likes you master", Nayru muttered.
Jason looked over at Wes, then back to Chloe, then back at Wes. Another memory seemed to click, and he gave a sigh. "... never mind. I don't think timing would have made any difference."
"Kris, do me a favor and escort Jason to the hotel", Wes said. "Go with Nayru, she can set up the rooms."
"And what about you?" Kris asked, looking between her teacher and Chloe before suddenly smirking. "Ooo, is this gonna be a date?"
Chloe had to catch herself from falling over at the word 'date', and even Wes seemed to be stunned. "...no, I am investigating Team Plasma, remember? Chloe has been here for about three years, and any information she has might be useful. I simply need to question her. Now go."
Grumbling that her joke was not taken well, Kris grumbled and walked off, followed closely by Jason, who gave Chloe a friendly wave goodbye before heading off. While the officer spoke to his old classmate and Nayru dealt with her master's student, the amnesiac made his decision, and pulled out his Rotom-phone, opening a new message.
XxXxXxX
"Em? You haven't touched your noodles."
The girl in question only looked up from her phone, across the table to Rose. Her sapphire gaze locked onto the Alola Champion for a few moments, before she looked back at her phone, a picture displayed on the screen. The picture in question was back when they were only fifteen, with Em kissing Jason playfully, one eye staring at the camera. Meanwhile, Jason looked rather flustered, his face an interesting shade of pink, his eyes widened in panic, and his lips looking like they couldn't decide if he wanted to frown or smile. With another sigh, she locked her phone, putting it on the table. "... sorry."
"It's okay", Rose muttered, not needing to question Em. It had been three years to that day since Jason had saved her and Wes from Ultra Space, and she did not blame the model at all for her current state. A loud slurp snapped her out of her thoughts, her eyes glaring down at her orange rodent, who was floating there while chewing noodles.
"What?" Maple asked, her rudeness not noticed.
"Anyway..." Rose sighed, turning away from her companion. "I'm sure Jason is fine, after all Wes is looking hard for him. No news is good news, I always say, but at the same time he wouldn't want you starving yourself worrying about him, right?"
"Easy for you to say", Em stated. Though, quickly, she winced, realizing her words had more bite to them than she meant. "... sorry. Again. I know I'm not... easy to put up with today."
Rose only gave a nod, before she gently continued to eat her own noodles. The state that Wes had come out of Ultra Space in, despite being so long ago, still haunted her to this day. She couldn't imagine the horrors that he had faced, let alone the horrors that Jason had to experience. It was enough to cause panic and worry in anyone. She wasn't even Wes' girlfriend, while Em was Jason's. Anything Rose had experienced, Em had worse.
The emerald-haired beauty soon decided that, despite her horrible mood and lack of appetite, to actually eat something. She took a bite of her noodles, and like Maple before her, let out a loud slurp as she ate a chunk of them, not caring about being polite at the moment. Then came a familiar ping, as her Rotom-phone floated up. The avatar's expression, however, did not have the same grin that most of the phones had, instead opting for a worried, reluctant gaze.
"Um... Miss Em? You have a new text message... and it's a bit lengthy."
The model turned to glare at her phone. "I don't care about it. If it's not from my boo, then I don't want to hear about some stupid new shoot or new dress or a damn party. You can just auto-reply and tell them that I'm not interested, and that this is my day off, not to be disturbed no matter what."
The rotom's expression did not change, however, as it paused, almost as if debating its own reply. "... the contact is 'Heart, Heart, Heart-Jason'."
Immediately, the phone was snatched out of the air, and furiously, Em opened up her messages, her sapphire eyes wide-open as she stared down at the message in front of her. She burned it all to memory, making sure that she could tell if it was real or not.
To Em
This may be a bit weird, hearing from me three years late... I'm sorry that I couldn't reply before. It has not been easy for me... though, from what I read, it hasn't been easy for you, either. I'm sorry about that, too.
I've read them all. Every last one. It means a lot that you went out of your way, to try and help me... you want me to remember so badly, and you put so much effort into it. But I can't. And I'm sorry for that, too.
I guess that's three things I owe you for, huh? I'm getting memories back, bit by bit. I already have a few... but I need you to be patient, okay?
I'll text you again when I do remember you. Just know that I'm safe with Wes, and we're traveling through Unova. He's taking good care of me... at least, as best as he can, anyway.
From your 'boo',
Jason.
Em's eyes softened slowly, reading the message, and for the first time in years, they seemed to sparkle with life. "I-it's him... it's really him... he's... alive..."
Rose gave a gasp, but due to noodles hanging halfway out of her mouth, she began to cough violently. Another loud gasp came from the redhead, before she managed to cough out her next sentence. "W-what!? B-but if W-Wes found him, we would-"
That was when Em stood up abruptly. A newfound fury filled her gaze, and while it was refreshing to see her in a state other than despair, Rose couldn't help but feel a shiver go up her spine as she locked her gaze onto the Alola Champion. "Rose, I'm sorry that we're going to have to cut this short, but I'm making a trip to Unova."
"S-shouldn't we try and contact Wes first, see what is g-going on?" Rose coughed, her lungs betraying her from doing anything. "M-maybe there's a reason!"
"And I'll find out what it is in person, Rose", Em said with a glare. She reached for her bag, pulling out the familiar Ultra Ball, along with her hair-pin that held a rainbow-colored stone. "You and I both know how much I hate it when someone breaks a promise to me... so he better have a damn good excuse."
Rose couldn't do much, other then try and calm her coughing as the large dragon pokemon emerged from Em's Ultra Ball. The salamence roared, taking off instantly and Mega-Evolving in the air, shooting off suddenly like a jet engine, and no matter how much Rose wanted to chase after her, she knew her own salamence wouldn't be able to catch up for an interception by this point.
"Shit", Rose muttered, turning to Maple, who was wearing a face of horror. "Rotom!"
"You called, miss?" her Rotom-Phone came from her purse, holding the same Rotom that was within her PokeDex three years ago.
"Make an emergency call to Wes", Rose ordered. "And if he doesn't answer, call again, and again! Don't stop calling until he answers! I need to find out why he didn't tell Em, or me, about Jason before Em gets there!"
