Chapter 11
"Elsa..." The voice was faint but Elsa could tell the person calling out to her was close, she quickly rose to her feet and tried desperately to see thru the fog that was slowly beginning to get thicker and thicker. "Anna I'm here!" She called out "Tell me where you are. I'll come find you!" Her sister continued to call out to her "Please help me" The voice echoed "Please." Elsa's heart ached as her sister continued to cry out, "Anna please give me a sign!" Elsa cried "I NEED to know where you are." She got no reply back, now all she could do was stand there in the fog which was slowly beginning to turn black.
She cupped her hands over her mouth and called out once more "Anna, please answer me!"
"I'm Here" Her sister's voice called out, Elsa whirled around feeling instant relief when she saw Anna standing just inches away from her. The strange thing was there was no fog where her sister was standing but she paid no attention to that. All she could do was run over and hug her sister, "Oh Anna thank Odin your ok" She cried happily "I was so worried.
"You should be" a voice that was not her sisters cackled, before she had time to react Anna grabbed Elsa by the neck and with little effort lifted her up into the air, as Elsa struggled to breathe she noticed Anna's eyes were bloodshot red, "A-Anna what..." Anna's grip tightened around her sister's neck and smiled.
As Elsa began blacking out she saw the fangs protruding from her little sister's mouth.
"Goodbye. Big Sis..."
"Ahhhh!"
"Elsa, Elsa wake up!"
"No!"
Jolting awake, Elsa's hand went straight to her heart as she gazed wildly around the room. Once she realized that it had all just been a crazy nightmare her hands shot up towards her mouth as she tried her best to stop shaking. She however couldn't find it in her to do so which was equally embarrassing because Jack was standing right beside her.
She thought that he'd laugh in her face over having seen her wake up the way she had instead he sat down on the edge of the couch waiting for her to calm herself down before saying anything.
"H-How long have you been down here?" She asked hesitantly, watching as he idly shrugged "Long enough to know you sleep talk" He said matter-a-factly, Elsa hides under the blanket in embarrassment.
"Sorry" She apologized, this surprised Jack who'd gotten to his feet "What's there to be sorry about," He said removing the blanket from over her head "It's not exactly something you can control. So don't worry about it"
Though Elsa didn't wanna admit it, she liked the side of Jack that she was seeing. He wasn't mocking or making jokes, instead, he was trying to make her feel better, and that in itself made her feel all warm and bubbly on the inside.
"Thanks," She murmured, "but that's not what I meant."
"I'm not following you," Jack said eyeing her quizzingly.
Taking in a deep breath, Elsa gaze dropped down to her hands "I was actually talking about earlier," She murmured "I shouldn't have called you a moron it was very stupid of me to lose my temper like that and for that, I'm really, really sorry"
"Hey it's cool," Jack replied back "I'm not exactly the easiest guy to get along with. I'm surprised you didn't just leave like I told you to. Most girls would have."
"Well as you can see I'm not most girls" Elsa pointed out.
"I know and I'm glad for that"
For the first time since Elsa had met him his face turned a bright red. Though Elsa found his blushing to be cute she didn't say a word about it for fear that he'd lose his temper and kick her out for real.
He unexpectedly cleared his throat and stood up, "Well I, Uh- yeah I'm gonna go to bed..." as she watched him go, the question that had been in her mind since she'd gotten there suddenly came spilling out "Are you and Rapunzel engaged?" she regretted it the instant she'd said it but it was to late to take it back now.
Jack who's back was turned to her was frozen in place, "why the hell would you ask me something like that?" He questioned still unable to look at her. She could clearly see he was struggling to stay on his feet so she stood up ready to catch him in case he fell.
"I know it's not any of my business..." She began before Jack cut her off "Your damn right it's not any of your business." He turned around to yell at her some more but suddenly grew dizzy again.
He muttered shit under his breath when he nearly lost his footing but Elsa was there to help him to his room. "I want you to go" Jack finally said when Elsa had gotten him settled "Now."
"But Jack I..."
"Now!"
She flinched back at the harshness in his voice but refused to move "No I'm not going anywhere." Too weary to argue Jack lay his head back down on his pillow and muttered something inaudible under his breath.
She remained by his bedside for the rest of the night, what woke her up the next morning was the buzzing of her cellphone.
It was a text message from Anna, it read;
A: You need to get home right now, mom's super pissed.
Elsa groaned in agitation and texted back.
E: Alright I'll be there in a few minutes
As she sent it, her gaze was transfixed on Jack's sleeping form. She suddenly found herself smiling as she whispered "Goodbye Jack. I'll be back soon." she stood up to go but Jack's hand suddenly shot out and took hold of her wrist.
"J-Jack, what's wrong?" She asked.
Realizing what he was doing he released her arm "Sorry" He replied meekly.
"It's fine." Elsa said shoving her phone into her pocket "I'm gonna go home but I'll be back to check on you later k?"
Though Elsa couldn't tell, Jack who was looking into her eyes was trying his hardest to figure if Elsa was after something. The girl was being nothing but nice to him and the only time he had a girl do this was when they wanted something. "You don't have to you know." He finally said. "I'll do fine on my own."
"Your not getting rid of me that easily" Elsa teased "Now remember to stay in bed if you need anything Tabitha's in the other room."
Elsa was already halfway out the door when Jack called out to her "Elsa wait!"
"What is it?" She asked feeling slightly worried "does your head hurt? I'll get you some Tylenol for that..."
"No" Jack interrupted "It's not that."
He suddenly grew quiet "See my dad was forcing me to marry Rapunzel because she's the daughter of a man he wanted to merge his company with" He finally said, "I know because he told me so, said that if I didn't do this I was dead to him as a son." He scoffed aloud "Not that I care I mean who wants a father who cares more about money than his own god damn family"
Elsa could tell he was getting angry "Jack..."
"No, I need to say this. Alright?"
Elsa nodded and let him continue "In the end, I ended up breaking off the engagement. Hell, you should have seen how ballistic my father got when I told him I wanted nothing more to do with his plan to merge the companies. If I hadn't fought back he would have killed me."
Jack who was staring out the window didn't notice Elsa now standing beside him until she put her hand on top of his, "I'm sorry" She murmured, "I didn't know, I thought that..."
"That I loved her?" He quirked an eyebrow and grinned.
"That's not what I was thinking at all!" Elsa shot back.
"Elsa Anderson. Are you jealous?" He teased, Elsa blushed a bright red "I am NOT jealous" She cried defensively "I don't even like you that way, how in the world can I be jealous?"
He could see her pouting, "Ok, whatever you say."
She would have argued further but her cellphone began to buzz again "Shit, it's my sister again. I gotta go" as she ran out she texted 'I'm on my way home now' Back to Anna not knowing of the trouble she was in once she'd gotten back home.
meanwhile, Jack who was staring out the window again clenched his fists as his heart began racing "Keep it together Jack" he thought to himself "You can't let yourself fall for this girl."
Though secretly way down deep in his heart, he knew that he was. Still, he continued to fight with himself, "I'm gonna win this bet." He thought bitterly "and nothing, not even this little setback will stop me from reaching my goal and that's a promise.
To be continued.
