Ok so one chapter left chapter left after this. So the last one will be in January l have been considering maybe doing another fic right now all I'll say about it is it is not like this one.

The next day like the previous days Ruby was waiting on Weiss with a giant coffee. Which Weiss thanked her for when she arrived. "Ok Weiss here is where things get fun I'm guessing you have a question as to why we are intentionally setting the gas tank on fire. Even though all logic screams don't set a gas tank on fire."

"That I do Ruby. Care to elaborate as to why we are doing so?"

"It's simple Weiss gas years ago wasn't refined as much as it is now. So it gradually left sticky tar like deposits in stuff. Gas tanks are usually the worst for it. This one I'm pretty sure has never been burned because when I poked at it with a long screwdriver it looked like there is about a half inch of the stuff in the bottom. The reason we are going to burn it is because there is very little that will actually dissolve the stuff fast. So when I got into this business I gave up dissolving it when I noticed that when you get it really hot it can pour out. Problem is the stuff stinks and is fairly flammable. So what I do now is build a fire that will last a few hours and toss the tank on top of the fire. It will melt the stuff and catch on fire. Once it burns to ash all that you have to do is a little light sand blasting and blow the dust out of it. For a finishing touch a quick rinse with some diesel so that it doesn't rust before you can use it will leave it good as new."

Weiss stared at Ruby like she was some sort of mad scientist. "How have you not blowed yourself up doing that?"

Ruby chuckled at Weiss' reaction. "Well when that stuff does catch on fire the fumes off of it will cause the tank to shoot like a nine feet long streak of fire out of the filler hole. It probably goes without saying that I don't leave the gas cap or any removable plugs or fittings in the tank when I do that."

Weiss pinched the bridge of her nose. "I can't tell if you are a danger to yourself or society."

Ruby laughed and rubbed the back of her head. "Anyway I've already set it up to burn; I'll be back in a minute. I just got to go light it."

Weiss shook her head and took a sip of her coffee. A few minutes later Ruby came back and sat down. "Ok Weiss today all that is left to just get the engine ready to go is mount it back on the tractor along with the front axle then the crank pulley then the radiator support first thing. Once that is done. We can roughly set the valves enough for it to run. Where it has got solid lifters, they have to be hot set. So it is going to have to be run first. Then comes the water pump and pulley. You took that off so it won't be no big deal for you to put back. Once that is done you can use more of that sealant to glue the thermostat housing on the head and make sure to use it around the bolt head too." About the time, that Ruby finished telling all that to Weiss they heard what sounded like a rocket being fired. Weiss raised an eyebrow at Ruby. "Was that what I think it was?" Ruby tried to look at Weiss with a calm straight face. "Yes yes it was."

Ruby got the straps and the cherry picker back into position to pick up the engine. Once it was up off the blocks like before Weiss worked the lift while Ruby did all the positioning of the engine it took a little while because the engine was pitched a little off but Ruby eventually got it fully seated in the bell housing. She ran around and put in the four bolts that hold it to the bell housing so that they could get the lift out of the way. Once that was done, she went outside and checked the fire. Using a long pole she rolled the gas tank over a little and left it be. On her way, back in she picked up the front axle and rolled it back into the garage. When she got there Weiss had the crank pulley and the radiator support set out ready to go. "Thanks Weiss!" The two rolled the axle back up to the tractor and Weiss reached up under it with a crescent wrench and firmly snugged the giant nut that held the wishbone to the bell housing. Once that was done Ruby lined up the crank pulley with the shear key that she just placed in the crank and drove the pulley on the crank with the shop hammer and a block of wood. Satisfied that the pulley was completely set and the set screw was tight she then put the radiator support over the four studs that screwed in the block that the axle also sets on and put the lock washers and nuts on them and finally tighten them down with the air gun. "Weiss would you care to do the honors?" Weiss nodded "Certainly." Weiss then reached up under the bell housing and lowered the jack that it had been setting on. The tractor was now sitting on two of its own wheels. They still had to mount the new tires and rims that Ruby had ordered on the rear end.

"Alrighty now Weiss we are almost in the home stretch. I've already laid out the water pump, the gasket, another tube of sealant, and the thermostat housing pieces. I know you know how to put all that back on it. I also laid out new bolts for the thermostat housing because of where the old ones were almost rusted in two. While you install all of that. I'm going to work on mounting the new rear tires and rims so that we can roll it around. Weiss nodded and got to work. Ruby had already disassembled the water pump and cleaned it. So all she had to do was coat the back of the pump with sealant and place the gasket on it and coat the block. Once she had firmly bolted it, up she slipped the adjustable pulley over the pump and after she put some anti seize on the bolt screwed them in. Lastly all she had to do was coat the part of the head where the thermostat housing bolted onto it and then lay the first gasket over that and then bolt the bottom plate of the housing onto the head next she coated the plate then laid the next gasket on top of that and coated the bottom of the upper half of the housing. Once that was done, she placed the new copper washers on the new bolts and heavily coated those too. Finally, once all of the bolts were tight she dropped the tube of sealant. She was certain of it that she had it to her elbows, on her face and in her hair. She was praying that there wasn't going to be a need for anymore of the slimy stuff.

While Weiss installed most of the cooling system and played in the sealant. Ruby opened up the box of new inner tubes and laid them out in the sun to get hot. While she was waiting on that, she set the new rims out with the valve stem holes turned down. The position that she wanted the rear tires to be set at called for the valve stems to be turned down while mounting and then when the rims were mounted on the hubs they would then be on the outside. She got the tire and rolled them over to the rims grabbing the cheap box of talcum powders that she kept for this purpose she dusted the inside of the tires so that the tubes would slide when she put them in. She grabbed her shop hammer and laid the first tire over the rim and started driving it onto the rim working her way around once it popped on the rim she did the same with the other one. Once that was done she retrieved one of the tubes and looked it over one she figured out which side the valve stem was one she lifted up the tire a bit and started working the tube down into the tire. After she was satisfied that it wasn't twisted or anything. She grabbed the tire bars that she had that was made for this. Hooking the first bar in the rim while standing on top of the tire she started working the tire down of the rim a little at a time until she was down to the last little bit which she took the hammer and drove the rest of the way onto the rim once that was done she repeated the process with the other one. Then she got the air hose and tire gauge reading on the tire. She found that the max pressure that she could apply to seat the beads was thirty so she started airing up the tires. On the first, one about the time that it reached twenty it popped into place. Moving on to the other one it reached twenty-eight before it ever popped. She then let the air out to twelve and put the valve caps on them. About the time, that she finished Weiss had also finished up her task.

"Hey Weiss care to help me mount these on the tractor I'll hold them in place all you have to do is put the bolts in." Weiss nodded "Certainly Ruby '' With that Ruby rolled the first on over to the tractor and lined up the four holes in the hub so that all Weiss had to do was stick the bolt in and take the air gun and tighten them as tight as they would go. A little bit of shifting around and a few light taps with the hammer later, the first rear tire was on the tractor. A few minutes later, the other one was on as well. Ruby then took the jack and picked it up and removed the jack stands that it had been sitting on. "Alright Weiss while I'm getting the cleaner and stuff out for the carburetor take that giant drain pan over there and remove both plugs out of the bottom of the transmission. I already looked in the filler hole before and there is water in the transmission but I doubt that it hurt it because the gears are still shiny. I've got a bucket of diesel setting there for when it is drained. When we get it running we will fill the transmission with diesel and run it around for a bit like that and then drain it again that will flush anything out that needs out of there.

Ruby pulled out her bucket of acid dip that she used to clean carburetors that was in bad shape about the time that she got the bucket open Weiss came over. "Ok Weiss there isn't much right here that you can do other than watch alright?"

"That's fine Ruby I needed a little bit of a break anyway."

Ruby removed the screws that hold the upper and lower halves together and then peeled the old gasket off it. The lower bowl had the same mess that the gas tank had in it. She then took an ice pick and dug the sludge out of the jets so that she could remove them and set them to the side. She pulled the parts basket up out of the bucket and dropped them in it. Moving to the top halve she removed the venturi along with the float needle valve and seat. After that, she removed the idle adjusting screw and the fuel inlet screen. She noticed that the upper half didn't have that sludge in it so she put it and everything else into the parts basket and lowered it into the bucket of acid and put the lid on it. Weiss noticed that she hadn't put the lower half in the acid but didn't ask why. Ruby then got up and got a pair of welding gauntlets and a small propane torch. Once she had the torch lit she turned it up all the way and held the lower half of the carb over it melting and burning the sludge out of it she kept it like that changing hands when it got to hot and then when she couldn't hold it with the gloves got a pair of channel locks to hold it. She kept burning it until the thing quit smoking. Satisfied that it was burnt out she set it down to cool and turned off the torch. She then reopened the bucket of acid and pulled the other parts out. The acid had cleaned them pretty well but they would still need a scrubbing. Closing up the bucket, she took the parts over to the sink and laid out a clean paper towel turning on the water. She then sprayed everything down with a foaming bathroom cleaner and gave it a couple seconds to set. She then rinsed everything and laid it out on the paper towel to drain. She left it there and went to check the temperature of the lower half that she had burned. It was still warm but she could now hold it with her hand. Passing it to Weiss, she then picked up the sand blaster that she had sat by the door that morning and went outside. The fire for the gas tank had gone out an hour or so ago and it was still warm like the lower half of the carb. Ruby grabbed the gas tank and gave it a shake. She smiled when she heard the burnt chunks bounce around in the tank. She sat it down next to Weiss and hooked up the sand blaster. Taking the piece of carb from Weiss she can begin to sandblast it. After a few minutes, it looked new shaking the sand out of it and out of her hair, she passed it back to Weiss. She then attached a curved adapter that she had made to sandblast gas tanks to the sand blaster and started working on it. She didn't stop until from what she could tell of the inside looked new. Winding the hoses back up they packed everything back inside. Ruby then got out a couple of cans of carb cleaner, various sizes of wire, a torch tip cleaner, swabs, and an extremely tiny air blower. She started scrubbing out every single hole that in the lower half of the carb. A few specs of black would sometimes come out and others when she sprayed cleaner in it would come out brown. She kept cleaning until the cleaners stayed clear. When she got up, she went over to sink and got the other parts and repeated the whole process. "Ok Weiss kindly pay attention here this is where you have to be precise." Weiss nodded as Ruby opened up the carb rebuild kit that she had ordered. She started off by putting the new gasket on the fuel inlet screen and screwing it in. Followed by the gasket and new needle valve seat. Once that was done, she hung the new needle valve on the float and gently set it in place and worked the hinge pin into the float. Once that was done, she laid out a steel rule and measured the float from the surface of the carb to the nearest edge of the float. Weiss decided to ask a question about this. "What are you doing that for Ruby?"

"Well they used two different floats on this tractor a Zanith and a Merval. The Zanith the float is supposed to be set to 1-5/32" from the bottom of the float to the top of the bowl. While a Merval sets 9/32" from the surface where the gasket sets on the top half to the nearest edge of the float. Where the Merval uses a double float you have to measure both sides to get it right." Weiss nodded. She had heard of carbs being set like that before but had never seen it done. Ruby, satisfied that the float was set right, screwed all the jets back in it along with the venturi and laid the gasket on the bowl. She gently lowered the top half down on the bowl and put the screws back in it. Lastly, she screwed in the idle adjusting screw all the way in and then turned it back out one and a half turns. Happy with her work she set it down and turned to Weiss.

"Finally I was beginning to wonder if that thing was ever going to come clean! Anyway Weiss what we have to do now is install the new exhaust/intake manifold and radiator and we'll call it a day. We are so close now to actually finishing this thing!" Weiss smiled "So what are you going to do with it when it's done Ruby?" Ruby blushed a little. "Well today is just Tuesday I was hoping that if we finish it since there is a tractor pull this weekend that you would go with me and we could take turns pulling with it." Weiss blushed a little " Y-Yes I would like that Ruby." Ruby turned blood red turned away. After a few seconds she snapped back to her usual self Ruby jumped up and got the manifold gasket, manifold and bolts. Ruby lined up the gasket and held it in place with the manifold while Weiss put anti seize on the bolts and screwed them in. Ruby let go and got the socket and ratchet needed to tighten them down once it was secure. Ruby then picked up the upper and lower radiator hoses and clamped them on the thermostat housing and the water pump. She passed Weiss the nut driver and picked up the radiator and worked it around to get the upper hose into place and Weiss tightened the clamp. While Weiss was putting on the lower, hose Ruby put the washers and nuts on the studs that were attached to the radiator that stuck through the radiator support. Once that was done, they both stood up. "Now all we have to do tomorrow Weiss is clean the mag and time it, put the carb, gas tank and oil bath on it. Other than a couple other little things that just take a few minutes we should be able to finish it tomorrow!" Weiss smiled "See you tomorrow then Ruby… Thanks for inviting me to go to the tractor pull with you this weekend."
