Wes POV:

Wes spent the next day in a fog. Everytime he opened his eyes though, Jo was somewhere in his vision. Whether it was putting a cool rag on his forehead or stoking the fire or even getting him to eat something, she was on guard. Wes was touched but sadly he couldn't show his thanks. The most he could do was lift his head.

When he woke up the next morning, he found Jo asleep a few feet away. She was curled up with her dagger clutched in her hand. Surprisingly, she had no blanket on and her backpack was serving as her pillow. How creepy it could've been to see someone sleeping with a knife in their hand, Wes found it endearing. She fell asleep on guard and had taken care of him for the past few days.

Wes sat up while keeping his gaze on the girl. No one had ever been so kind to Wes as Jo had. His parents basically sent him away because they thought he'd have a better chance of living. Wes blinked, he'd been staring for too long. He stood up, waiting a second, as the world started spinning for a moment, then he covered Jo with her own blanket that she had placed on him. He walked over to the fire and found a few sticks to place on it. He sat for a moment until he heard movement behind him.

"Jeez! Don't scare me like that!" Jo exclaimed. "I thought you were a biter for a good second there."

Wes chuckled and apologized, "Sorry, I wanted to get moving."

Jo looked up at him and smiled, "Drink water, you're dehydrated."

"Is that code for my head hurts and I feel dizzy." Wes joked as he dug through his pack for a water bottle. "How much water do we have left anyway."

Jo looked a little nervous as she bit her lip. "I'm not sure but I know that there's a town close by. We just have to walk about 5 miles."

Wes took another drink of water in response. "We were that close and you made me stop?"

"Well, it was either stopping or dragging you the rest of the way after you fainted."

Wes blushed realizing that he was being irrational. "Well, thanks for the care."

Jo clearly blushed, "You were lucky you were asleep when I took your stitches out. I was wondering if I'd have to use numbing cream again . . . which I actually don't have much of. I'm running out of medical supplies."

Judging the lack of medication as a low priority fact, Wes moved on to other matters. "Your turn to pick out a car."

Jo sighed and began to pack up. Wes did the same. He hoped that the walk would be an easy hike.

Wes practically fell on his knees and let his pack fall. He clawed for his water bottle which was almost empty. Panting he gulped down as much as he could while also trying to catch his breath.

Jo on the other hand was about twenty feet ahead of him and simply turned around and stopped. She was carrying all of the heavy gear and also carried some of the other bags that wouldn't fit in the backpacks. Wes knew that she was in shape but she was hardly sweating.

"It's not that you're out of shape, it's the cold you just fought off." Jo yelled to him.

Wes looked up startled. "Can you read my mind or something?!"

"Just body language. You kept looking at yourself then at me. Like a comparison."

Wes snorted, "You don't miss much."

"It's basically part of my job . . . or it was."

Wes thought for a moment before saying, "I might ask for some ways to show body language in the future."

"As long as you use your own words."

Wes took a deep breath before hauling himself to his feet and picking up his pack.

"Two more miles," Jo laughed/ encouraged.

They finally reached the next town and found a small rental car area. Jo snatched the keys and they started driving towards the west in a highlander.

They would probably reach some small town in Utah and find a good place to stay the night.

Gas ran out near a hospital and Jo practically cheered. Wes was not as excited. Of course she'd be excited to see her own working environment. However, that wasn't his only concern, a second car, a big truck, was there and hopefully there were some nice people.

Jo crept in through the front door and quickly walked into a supply closet.

"Keep watch for me," Was all she said.

Wes nervously stationed by the door. He heard distant moans and was only startled further by another sound.

"Wes?" Not Jo said.

He quickly searched his vision only to be engulfed by someone.

"It's so good to see you! I thought everyone was dead. Holy shit!" The voice was female and sounded familiar but all wes could see was some blonde hair that was dyed.

Wes quickly pushed the girl away to find someone he recognized. "Belle? I haven't seen you since graduation from high school."

Two other people came out of a side door. Another two classmates. Emma and John. They were together since freshman year, it was no surprise that they both sported rings.

"It's good to see you," John said while refraining from tackling Wes like Belle did.

Emma only smiled but she wasn't one for talking anyway.

"Who's this?!" Belle asked in an almost accusing manner.

Wes was confused but he glanced behind him to see Jo emerging from the closet. She smiled slightly but it shrank from her face when she looked at Belle. Wes turned around to find Belle glaring at the girl.

He didn't even get a chance to ask, however. The distant moans grew exponentially louder as he heard a door break down and the undead poured into the area.

Belle screamed and went back to hugging Wes. Emma and John did the complete opposite. They grabbed their respective weapons, and got ready to fight. Jo quickly ran in front of everyone taking out not one but two daggers. She looked ready to fight.

"Does your guys' car have gas?" Jo yelled as she began to chop some bodies down.

John and Emma shared a glance before John yelled, "Yes but barely. There's only enough to get to a gas station within 30 miles."

Jo didn't hesitate. She began to shove everyone out of the hallway and towards the lobby. "Go! Wes, you too! Take my pack and I'll fight off as many as I can."

Belle heard 'Go!' and darted out to the car and jumped in the driver's seat. Emma and John ran out next. Wes hesitated.

"I can't just leave you!" He said, shouting.

Jo shrugged off her backpack while also kicking another walker in the head. "Just go, I'll find you! The next gas station that's on the freeway West if I can't get to the car."

Wes hesitated once again before running towards the car. Wes climbed in the back seat and anxiously waited for Jo. He only had time to watch Jo come running out of the building with several walkers when Belle stepped on the gas.

"Wait!" Wes yelled but Belle apparently chose to be deaf. They sped off towards the freeway and Wes could only watch Jo's figure watch the car driving away before it was swarmed with walkers.
