Hey guys! I couldn't lose my streak by not posting every day so here is the next chapter. I am really tired so please go easy on me if there is more spelling or grammar mistakes than my norm. The chapters are going to get more and more interesting and I want to hear your insights into what you think may happen. Do you think Ginny knows who Daphne's soulmate is? Any idea's who Theo's may be? And do we think Daphne knew straight away that Draco's was Hermione's?
I absolutely love reading your reviews so please keep them coming! Also, thank you so much for all my new followers. I can't believe I have over 160! I only started this fic a little over a week ago, so crazy! I am so grateful for you all.
Much love xo
Chapter eleven.
Draco was back in the forest again. He recognised the place instantly, as if he had been there a thousand times before. He ran his fingers over the bark of a tree closest to him, marvelling in the sensation that he felt against his palms. A drop of water collected on the branches above him landed with a soft splash against his cheek. The coolness of the water sent a chill straight down to the soles of his feet.
Everything about this place felt so real.
His whole body felt as if he had been drenched in a huge wave of serenity, as he took in more of the evergreen trees all around. A brilliant white light caught his eye, and he finally looked up into the night sky, a grin erupting over his face, as he watched thousands of stars shimmering in the darkness.
He could name almost every star from memory as he spun slowly, taking in as much of the spectacular view as he could. He stopped suddenly, squinting his eyes as he realised, he could see his own constellation in the distance. The cluster of stars were unmistakable, even though they seemed to look duller than the rest.
Draco was ready to move further into the forest before a breath shot out from harshly. His breathe came out in a little puff of smoke, and he was momentarily aware of the chill in the air. He craned his head back more, narrowing his eyes as to get a better angle.
There was no mistaking it.
Beside his dull constellation, almost overlapping each other, shone the Leo constellation. He bit back another breath.
….
Draco added another sugar cube into his cup of coffee, cursing slightly as a tiny bit of the hot content plashed against his hand. The common room was getting gradually louder with voices as students grumbly came down the stairs, most flinging themselves onto couches and chairs. He brought the hot liquid towards his lips, sighing slightly at the burning sensation when it travelled down his throat.
He was almost one hundred percent certain the dream he had last night was connected to the spell. He shouldn't have dreamt last night at all! He took the bloody Dreamless Sleep potion that Ginny had given a few days before. He had hoped to gain a few hours of fruitless sleep, for once not having to replay that horrific night at the Manor.
But, instead of a short burst of blissful sleep, he had been smacked head on with a dream about the same forest from the spell. That must be one powerful fucking spell to override the potion.
He felt like he had barely even slept.
Draco held the cup in his hands, slipping his eyes closed for a moment, as the heat from the hot liquid seeped into his body. His eyes opened back up, just in time to see a flustered looking Theo barrel down the stairs taking two at a time. Draco was unable to mask his surprise at his friends' state before he suddenly approached him, sliding into the empty space on the couch.
"Have you been having strange dreams lately?" Theo whispered, leaning in close as he stared at him with a concerned expression.
"Define strange?"
"I don't know! Just fucking strange!" Theo all but strangled out.
Draco raised one eyebrow at him, "Afraid I can't help you if all you're giving me is 'just fucking strange'." He muttered, trying to keep his tone even.
"I dreamt about the same thing I saw when I was under that stupid spell."
Draco froze, the cup halfway to his lips as he registered what Theo had said. He felt his heart rate begin to quicken, as he thought back to when he stood in the middle of that dark forest, the two constellations clear as day in his mind. He forced himself to swallow, suddenly feeling a little bit sick.
Theo took Draco's silence as a confirmation. He sank down into the couch, raking a shaking hand through his hair. Draco hadn't moved an inch, willing his face to return to his usual vacant expression.
"You still haven't told me what it was you seen." He heard Theo from behind him.
"There's not much to tell you. I didn't see much." Draco lied, finally bringing the cup to his lips. The sensation of the liquid did not quench the nervous bubble in his stomach.
"How thick do you think I am?" Theo huffed, folding his arms across his head, as he glared at the back of the blonde-haired boys head. Draco had barely opened his mouth to answer, before he was cut off by a bouncing redhead plonking herself down across from them.
She grinned brightly at the sulking wizards.
"Depends on the question." She answered Theo, locking eyes with him as she smirked at the irritable boy. Daphne had approached the group, sitting down tiredly next to Theo. She bumped him softly with her shoulder. Theo barely glanced at either of them.
"What's up with you?" Daphne asked him.
"He's been having weird dreams." Draco answered flatly, turning his attention back to the cup in his hands, as he heard Theo huff incredulously behind him.
"That's so weird! Me too!" Daphne almost shrieked. She had gripped Theo's arm tightly, ignoring the glare he shot at her as she made him turn to face her.
Draco was careful to keep his expression blank. He was fairly confident the Gryffindor firecracker was currently watching him.
"I saw what I had seen under the spell again. Although, I was able to see more this time." She carried on when neither Theo nor Draco acknowledged her.
"I don't want to talk about it." Theo finally grumbled at her, forcefully removing his arm from her tight grasp.
"That's fine. You can just sit there in a huff then." Ginny spoke up, a grin spreading over her face as the pissed off Slytherin boy flipped her off. "Where is Blaise?"
"He's still sleeping. It is a Saturday after all." Draco answered, still not meeting her eyes.
"And why aren't you sleeping?" She queried sweetly.
Draco cursed quietly at the irritating Gryffindor sitting opposite him. He tried to pull himself together as he finally lifted his head to face her. Just has he had expected; Ginny sat watching him with a stupid smug expression plastered over her freckled face.
"You clearly already know why I am not sleeping, so why don't you just enlighten everyone, since you are clearly dying to." He snapped, fighting his instinct not to sneer at the girl.
"Dreams?"
"Dreams." He repeated coldy, leaning back and glowering.
"I do wonder what it is that you could possibly be dreaming about?" She mockingly asked, rubbing her hand over her chin as if she had an invisible beard. Draco's patience was wearing very thin, and he had a feeling Ginny already knew that. Her eyes sparkled with the threat of a challenge.
What the hell did she have up her sleeve? Draco didn't know the Weasley well, but from what he did know of her, is that she was mischievous and stubborn.
"Why do you care?" He finally relented, giving the Gryffindor exactly what he wanted.
"I just want to know what it is you are hiding. You clearly seen something while under the spell that freaked you out. It's written all over your face."
Draco scowled.
"You're pissing me off, Weasley."
"Gosh, how will I ever sleep at night. Oh wait, I will, soundly actually." She winked. Draco heard Daphne gasp at the boldness of Ginny's words.
"Okay, I think you've had enough fun," Theo snapped, sitting up a little straighter and zoning in on her. "Doesn't to take a genius to see it's bothering him."
"Oh, I can see that. I'm just trying to figure out what it is that's bothering him so much. It's not like he figured out that his soulmate was a Gryffindor or anything." She scoffed at the ridiculousness of it, trying to lift the conversation to a brighter note.
However, all that happened was Draco choking on the mouthful of tea he had just swallowed. He leant forward on his arms spluttering, as a stunned Theo thumped him hard on the back three times.
Oh no fucking way.
He sucked in a large breath, willing his heart to slow down and his hands to stop shaking. He couldn't believe his reaction to Ginny's musings. He had completely blown it. Now everyone would know that his soulmate was in fact a fucking Gryffindor.
"Holy shit." Ginny breathed, staring at the Slytherin boy as if he had morphed into a Centaur. Draco finally fell against the back of the couch, coughing slightly as he put a hand on Theo's shoulder in thanks.
Three pairs of eyes were staring at him when he recovered. He could have kicked himself squarely in the balls for his reaction. Where the hell had that even came from? He knew better than to show any form of expression, much less a reaction like that. He placed two fingers on the bridge of his nose applying pressure at his sudden headache.
He would not sit there and be interrogated.
He needed to get out of the common room.
As if by some goddamn perfect luck, a voice spoke up, breaking the shocked tension within the group.
"Sorry to break up- um, whatever this is- but," Draco snapped his eyes open, pulling his hand away from his face to take in Hermione Granger standing over them. She raised her eyebrow as she tried to piece together what was going on. Seeming not to care what had happened, she met Draco's eyes, "Do you mind coming to the astronomy tower with me? I need to pick your brains about something, and I've been told you are the one to help me."
Draco was nodding his head at her before she had even finished her sentence, pushing past Ginny, and finally feeling like he could breathe again.
…..
Draco ran his fingers over the posters on the stone walls, his mouth tugging slightly as he took in the images of the night sky. He loved astronomy; there was just something about the vast sky that called out to him. He had always wondered if it was due to the fact he was called after a constellation, but he liked to think that he was just extremely good at the subject.
His attention shifted to Hermione Granger. She was staring out the Astronomy Tower window, and Draco decided to take a few moments to take her in before he approached her. She had certainly changed a lot from first year. Draco observed that her hair, while still wild and bouncy, no longer held the obscene amount of frizz it once had done. Her curls fell in large ringlets down her shoulders, golden strands glittering as the sun reflected off her hair. He leant against the wall, his eyes racking up her body as he took in her curves.
He had first became aware of Hermione even having curves at the Yule Ball. Draco was used to seeing her in oversized jumpers, non-figure-hugging skirts, or frumpy looking shirts. He had got the fucking shock of his life when he had seen her come down the stairs that night. She had, what Draco could only describe, as the perfect hourglass shape. He took in the shape of her slim waist, to her wider hips. Draco grinned slightly to himself as he remembered Pansy glowering at her that night, and then hitting him sharply in the shoulder for staring.
Hell, every single guy at stared at her that night. He distinctly remembered Theo wolf whistling under his breath, as Blaise merely took dumbfounded.
Hermione began to turn from the window, snapping Draco out of what ever the hell that was. She was wringing her hands together and biting her lip. His eyes snapped down briefly to her teeth dragging across her lower lip. As if suddenly aware of what he was doing, he rubbed a hand over his jaw, shaking away any, and all, thoughts about Hermione Granger.
What the fuck was going on with him lately?
He waited patiently for Hermione to speak, watching her as she continued her nervous antics. After a few silent moments had passed, Draco sighed realising that he would have to begin the conversation with her.
"What can I help you with, Granger?" He asked, folding his arms across his chest. He could only hope his face was back to his usual blank expression. If not, especially with his intrusive thoughts of her as of recently, he was fucked.
"I am told you are good at Astronomy."
"Just good?" He scoffed, rolling his eyes. He watched as Hermione narrowed her eyes slightly at him.
"Okay, fine. I have heard you are exceptionally good at Astronomy then. Is that better?" She bit out as if it physically hurt to say. Draco smirked smugly at her, dropping himself down to sit on the top step. Hermione was leaning against the window, and he was just grateful that there was a bit of distance between them.
"That must have hurt admitting that, Granger."
"Admitting what?"
"That I am better than you at Astronomy." He answered, leaning back on the step, getting himself more comfortable to watch her squirm. That was not a pastime that he would be able to easily move on from. There was something about watching her face flush in anger as he got under her skin. He loved to make her bite.
"I never said that!" She scoffed, a rosy hue beginning to colour her cheeks as she glared at him.
"It was basically implied by calling me exceptional." He grinned as she bristled, flipping her wild curls over her shoulder as she stared him dead in the eyes. Her brown eyes were swimming in anger, and Draco couldn't help but notice just how beautiful her eyes were.
"I don't even know why I asked for your help." She huffed, pushing herself off the rail and ready to leave. Draco huffed out a short laugh, before holding his hands up in surrender. Hermione stopped, breathing in deeply as she glanced over at him.
"I am only joking, Granger. What is it you want to ask me?" He rolled her eyes at her when she stood stubbornly, averting her eyes from him and instead choosing to stare at a spot directly above his head. "Or, you can figure it out yourself. Your choice." He added when she hadn't answered.
Draco placed his hands on the floor to push himself up to his feet when she finally caved. She turned on him, taking a few steps closer, and Draco met her eyes. Her eyes lingered on his for a few seconds longer, before she blinked a few times and a soft flush settling over her cheeks.
He raised an eyebrow at her reaction.
"I need you to help me figure out what constellation it was that I saw. Please, Malfoy."
