"Oh Beca" the redhead whispered and the DJ saw gentleness in her friend's eyes. There was no trace of ridicule or sarcasm there, only care and warmth. Could this really be? Beca wanted to believe it desperately but couldn't really do it. All she could do was continue to look at Chloe and wait for the redhead's next reaction. "I … Beca … I don't know what to say", Chloe said finally, trying her best to put into words what she was feeling. Given that her heart was practically being exploding in her chest by the fact that her small gestures meant so much to Beca, this was no easy feat. And yet she knew she had to get her feelings across somehow to make her friend understand how much she cared about and appreciated Beca. "Beca, I really care about you a lot and whatever I can do to make you feel good or support you I'll gladly do", Chloe said quietly while looking intently into the DJ's eyes. The redhead had taken Beca's hands to underline the meaning of her words. "That is, if you want me to", she added. Chloe's touch combined with her words sent Beca over the edge and she started sobbing and crying hard. Immediately, Chloe pulled Beca into a tight embrace and held her close, stroking her back. For a long time Beca couldn't stop crying. She was trying to process what Chloe had just said and the happiness that was rising inside her and spilled out of her eyes. She was too overwhelmed to speak at first although she very much wanted to. Only when Beca had regained some control over her breathing, she could make her voice cooperate. She let go of Chloe and sat back so she could look at the redhead. "If you really mean it, I'd really like that, Chloe", Beca choked out with a small smile. Chloe's also tear-streaked face lit up instantly, "Of course I mean it, Beca."
The young DJ's heart filled with such joy that she flung herself at Chloe which caused the redhead to fall over backwards onto the soft armrest of the sofa and Beca to land on top of her. Feeling that this was a very awkward position, Beca instantly relinquished her hold on Chloe and sat back up, "Sorry about that", the DJ mumbled. Chloe, who'd also sat up again laughed, "Na, you just caught me off guard."
"So, do you wanna drink that caramel coffee before it goes stone cold?" Chloe said smirking, reaching over and handing Beca her full mug. A genuinely happy smile appeared on the DJ's face as she accepted the drink, "You bet. Nothing could keep me from it", she said and took a large sip. Although her emotional outburst and the time that had passed had had an effect on the coffee's temperature, it was still delicious and Beca savored every sip she took – not only because of the actual flavor but even more because of what Chloe's simple gesture had triggered. It felt so good to finally have said much of what Beca had still been afraid to tell Chloe about her view on friendship. And yet, the DJ thought as she watched the redhead sip her own coffee, she had actually not said all that much. Chloe had been the one to offer all her love and support to Beca and the DJ had basically just had to accept. Such an intense feeling of warmth spread through her body at this thought that Beca actually let out a contented sigh.
When she heard her friend sigh, Chloe looked at her and came back from her own thoughts about how amazing it felt that Beca had let her into her heart as she had done moments ago. Of course, Chloe had never thought that simply putting caramel in the DJ's coffee as a friendly gesture would cause such a great thing to happen but the redhead felt immensely grateful that the day had unfolded as it had done. However, the question still remained whether Beca would also want to be a true friend to Chloe. After all, the redhead had offered her love to the DJ and Beca had accepted, genuinely moved and happy without a doubt. This alone made Chloe feel warm and fuzzy inside but, if she was honest with herself, she was desperate for Beca to declare that she wanted and would be her true friend too.
But Chloe pushed this thought out of her mind for now. "You ok, Becs?" the redhead asked. And then something happened that Chloe had not expected. The DJ leaned back, cradled her half empty mug in both hands, looked straight into Chloe's eyes and smiled softly. "I've never been better, Chloe and that's all because of you. Thank you so much. You are an amazing person and friend."
Had Chloe not known better she would have thought she was dreaming. Beca, badass Beca, had just said the sweetest words the redhead had heard in a very long time and had not even flinched or blushed while doing so. The DJ had openly accepted Chloe as her friend and thought that she was an amazing person and, on top of all that, Beca had said that Chloe's words and actions had made her feel better than she'd ever been. "Wow", was all that the redhead could manage to say as her mind was racing. What should she do now? Tell Beca what was going on inside her? No, that was too much right now and too soon. So the redhead settled for a gentle smile and, "Thanks you so much. That was one of the most beautiful things anyone has ever said to me and you are such an amazing friend too. I'm so glad we met."
The end.
