Sleep.

It has been the only thing on Lucas's mind once he made it back from picking up Eileen and Judy. Sure, talking and flirting with Eileen on the drive over had been fun. The added bonus that Judy had seemed to ignore them till she fell asleep was nice. He'd given serious thought to the warning Mr. Hopps had given him back at Nick's luxury apartment. At first he wasn't sure how he felt about the situation. At the time, they'd just met and he thought he'd never see her again. But now, she was here, under a roof that was technically his. He thought it was strange the way that thought made his chest tighten slightly. Despite that, once they were safely back at the burrow, he'd managed to keep his eyes open just long enough to give them quick directions to everything. Even managed to unpack a few of his clothes and change into a pair of gym shorts and a t-shirt. He went to check on the others and found Eileen flopped across the bed sound asleep.

He thought it was cute how she sprawled out at an odd angle across the bed. One leg hung off the side while her ears were a limp mess atop her head. Her head was rolled to one side with a line of drool running from her lips onto the bed. The temptation to take a picture was only overshadowed by his sleep deprived mind's urge to join her in slumberland. He shook his head to keep himself awake a little longer and fetch another blanket from the closet. Blanket in paw, he lifted her leg up onto the mattress and covered her with the blanket. He admired his handy work as she curled up beneath her new found warmth before going into his own room and collapsing onto his bed.

When Lucas finally woke up, it was with a massive headache. He laid there for several minutes just contemplating his choices in life when a subtle sound reached his ears. The opening and closing of squeaky old hinges, the clink of dishes against one another. Deciding he needed to investigate who was rummaging in the kitchen, and a glass of water to help with his headache, he drug himself out of the bed and walked to the kitchen.

Glancing at the clock, he decided it was far too early for anyone to be up after the day they all had yesterday. Nick might have been an exception, having dropped him off hours before everyone else was able to get there. Making his way on autopilot, Lucas didn't notice anything out of place in the kitchen. Till the wiggle of a certain brown and white tail caught his attention.

"What ar-"

"EEP!"

CRASH

A/N:

It's short, I know. I've actually been sitting on this for a while. Just haven't had time to clean it up. I felt I should go ahead and give you a little something just to let you know the story isn't dead. I just haven't had any inspiration for it lately. I am working on a large project that will hopefully start getting published soon so keep a lookout.
