Chapter 10

He shuffled to other side of bed. Then the right. He shoved the pillow over his head.

But Sasuke couldn't sleep.

He blamed it all on the splitting headache that came with each new dosage of drugs pumped into his body. That was one thing he definitely missed about the Hidden Leaf, no one was shoving needles into his arm all the time.

He didn't miss much.

That's what he told himself at least.

Sasuke wouldn't miss the empty vacant house. His family's house, right in the outskirts of town. It was much too big for one person.

It was a constant reminder of how many more people should have been living there. How alone he was.

Not that being alone was bad. He'd grown used to the cold.

Sasuke groaned and sat up from bed, looking out at the dark room. There was nothing save the bed and small tiny desk which he had yet to use. Its cold and steely environment gave off the aire of being a prison cell.

In a weird way, it was a prison cell. But Sasuke didn't intend to be its prisoner.

He wasn't dumb. He knew what Orochimaru wanted and he wasn't about to give it to him just like that.

He had to kill his brother…

But…

He didn't have those darn eyes yet…

He didn't need them, if he learned all he could from the snake guy, then he wouldn't need it.

But. Still.

Sasuke rose from the bed and walked out the door.

It was early in the morning but Orochimaru would be up. He had some questions to ask.

He walked down the halls, his steps etching against the hollow corridors. Sasuke stepped briskly, no time to waste. If he didn't arrive before his schedule started, he'd lose his chance to talk.

He opened the doors to the library quietly.

"No need for formalities, Sasuke-Kun, I know you're here."

The add-on pet name sent a spiral of pain through his forehead but he pretended not to notice. The first time he'd used one sent shivers down his spine and had given him a splitting headache. It was disturbing but then again, that was Orochimaru's whole deal. Disturbing and creepy. There was another layer, admittedly. Orochimaru loved to mess with Sasuke and undermine him. Pet names were just another attempt to assert his dominance.

Sasuke walked into the room and sat down in front of Orochimaru.

"May I ask why you sought my company so early in the morning?"

Sasuke hesitated.

"...Is there any way to master the Mangeko without killing someone?"

Orochimaru jumped in surprise and looked up at Sasuke. He smiled, grimacing.

"Ohh~, What's wrong Sasuke? Never killed anyone before?"

"Ha ha, no I haven't…" Sasuke said, slumping down.

He hadn't.

Sasuke had never killed anyone before. But that would change, he promised his brother that much.

"Its an interesting thought, I'll be sure to do some research~."

"Cool," he mumbled and slumped into the chair.

"What brings this to your mind?"

"What?"

Orochimaru looks up, eyes flickering with pure delight.

"Unsolicited questions aren't your style Sasuke-Kun~"

Another wave of pain shot up, the headache consuming him.

"I was just… curious."

Orochimaru's smile tightened and looked him over with a scrutinizing eye.

"Any more questions…?"

Sasuke sat there for a minute, it was rare Orochimaru offered any sort of information besides jutsu and training.

He almost never told him about any of the drugs and stimulus he'd been given.

What else did he want to know?

There has to be something other than-

Just stop thinking about him, then the headache will go away.

Sasuke turned his head away from Orochimaru, grasping at some of his hair.

"You don't look well, do you want to just rest?"

"Uhh...yeah yeah whatever…"

Why couldn't he get the idiot out of his head?! He had more important things to worry about, it'd been seven months, why was he still clinging to that pathetic little idiot whose probably just eating ramen and becoming the "Hokage".

He doesn't need Sasuke as a friend. Not when that friend was gonna kill him.

He's better off this way anyway.

He's better off.

Author's Note: The title's taken, Sasuke was also taken, I do not apologize. 'Sides we need to buy time til da big finale. Also Sasuke is fun to write occasionally, especially when he's super ignorant to everything. ((Despite how he acts and looks, he ain't much smarter than Naruto))

Also also, have you noticed that I like author's notes? I might do more of these.
