Announcement/Discussion:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to another rousing round of

"Am I an idiot or just a crappy writer?"

-o-o-o-

You read that right; I have yet again reached an apex of not thinking things through and regretting them later down the line.
As the case with Routine, now the same with One of the Legends. The irony here is that I did actually write an outline for the story itself...
After I'd already published Chapter 1, which contained the problem.

Which brings us to the question; what is the problem this time around?

Short Answer: The Champions.

-o-o-o-

Why are the Champions a problem?

I'll make it no secret that I was influenced by some base ideas from
Routine and the popular fic Champions of a Fallen Age/An Era of Restoration.

Adding the old Champions, alive and well in a post-calamity world is all well and good, and good way to shake things up.

But this brought about the issue of having four extensive, pre-established characters, who've already fulfilled their purpose story-wise.
Their being dead is what gave Routine some of its ground-roots in terms of plot, especially with what could've been.

And while it is fun to write their interactions with Link, Zelda, and Twilight/Arthur,
it leaves me completely unprepared with what to do with them in the future.

With missing memories, it's four (new, really) characters who need development following the events of the game.
And we haven't even met the new Champions yet and seen what hurdles that would beckon.

If you go back and read the first arc of OoTL, you'll notice that you could take the
old Champions out of most chapters and nothing would change. It's mostly silly interactions.

Most of what I could do has already been done in a better way than I could do.

And most importantly, while I have an idea or two,
I'm just not having fun writing it.

What does this mean going forward?

I am considering a major rewrite of the first Arc while the story is still in its infancy; I do not want to
abandon ship again, I've hated having to do that in the past.

I hate having to do this in general, but it's this or that.

A grim ultimatum, but I do not want to treat this story as a chore to write.
An author's stories and ideas deserve their love, not their disdain for their mere existence
at having to be written.

What most likely would happen is the changing of the canon to exclude the Champions, while expanding on
side characters like the Ordonians, Impa and Paya, Gage, Sheikke, etc.

Personally, I think the big dynamic remains in the Link/Zelda/Twilight-Arthur trio,
Midna being there only adds extra spice to the mix.

So regardless, the story is still packed with characterization.

Does this mean updates will be more/less frequent?

A bit of both, I'm afraid.

I am currently working on my own original project, an actual story,
which really just seems to leech at my creative thinking.

You can probably blame it for the lapse in updates.

-o-o-o-

In conclusion...

All in all, this stuff is on the table for consideration only as of right now.
Another rewrite may or may not happen, I might find a solution, might not.

I just wanted to share with you all what's up.
I owe you guys that much for sticking with me through my B-S.

Have a blessed day,
peace out!
