Elphaba loved to fly. The view is beautiful. In the distance she saw the green lights of the Emerald City. She could touch the clouds and no one can touch her. She has no worries and she feels freedom. Elphaba was a two-hour flight when she saw a carriage with five guards as Raydel had said. Elphaba first searched the area for any surprises. But she saw nothing. She land in the woods and walked behind a sheltered place close to the road. Now she had to wait about ten minutes before they walked past her hideout.
Elphaba thought about her plan. She would cast a sleepingspell. Then she would run with the Animals far away. They would find a resting place. The next day they would reach a village and after that the Animals can decide what they want to do. Then she would stay a night or two in the village to help. And she would fly back to her villages. To her Glinda who was waiting for her. Her thoughts wonder about Glinda. Then she heard footsteps. Show time Elphaba thought.
The carriage passed her hideout. She began to recite her spell. The guards immediately fell asleep. Elphaba walked by to find the key. She saw that everyone was asleep. She took the keys from the guards. She opens the lock and before she could open the door. The door flew open with a lot of force. Before Elphaba knew what was happening, four guards jumped up to her from the carriage.
Elphaba fell on her back to the ground with the guards. Elphaba hit and kicked around her to free herself from the guards' grasp. But they were too strong. Elphaba kept trying and started casting a spell. But before she finished, a guard had his hand over her mouth.
'Quickly, turn her over.' said a guard. Elphaba continued to fight the guards but it was of no use. She bit the hand that covered her mouth when she lay on the grond on her stomach with two guards still on top of her
'Aaah the witch bit me' he screamed.
Another guard pulled hard on Elphaba's hair. She grunted when her head went back hard. She tried to cast another spell when she felt something cold over her mouth. Her head was held by a guard while another guard turned the screws. An iron plate that sat under her chin was screwed upward. Her jaws were pressed together so that she could no longer move her mouth. She shook her head but the guards had already secured the thing behind her head. Her whole mouth was no longer visible. She could only breathe through her nose. Elphaba felt her hands tied behind her back with string. She had nowhere to go.
'Not so though anymore witch' a guard said with a smirk as he kicked her in the stomach. Elphaba only growled. She could do nothing.
'You are worth nothing. You're even uglier than you are from afar. Nobody wants you here. Now you are ours. Morrible will deal with you. You will hang for your actions and all of Oz will celebrate' The guards said interchangeably as they kicked her in the stomach, back and leg.
'Stop' A guard said. 'Morrible want her alive and conscious.' He added while he kicked her leg. 'We will make our camp here. We will move to the Emerald city in the morning as everybody is awake.'
Two other guards pick her up and throw her in the carriage behind the bars. They closes her cell and the carriage.
Elphaba was bruised on the floor and couldn't do anything. She sat up in pain. Damit damit damit Glinda will be so mad. What should I do now? I am beaten. Now keep calm Elphaba. Get the rest you need. And think of a plan. Elphaba thought.
She tried to move her legs and tried to get up. She was in pain, but it was manageable for Elphaba. She slowly sit down again. She was very happy with that. Now it was waiting for a moment when she could escape. She tried what get some sleep. Elphaba was scared about what will happen next. The guards said something about Morrible. Elphaba didn`t like that.
She's already preparing herself for the worst. Fortunately, all her loved ones were safe. Elphaba will never endanger them. Then she would be in pain or worse, die. Nessa was safe in Munchkinland with Boq. She will never know what happened. And her lover Glinda. She will miss her so much. But she will move an and find a new love. They are safe and that is al what matters. I will do anything to get out and protect you. Elphaba thought. Her eyes closed and she fell asleep.
Outside the guards were making camp. The four guards put the enchanted guards in a tent so that they could sleep peacefully. They would wake up the next day. The other guards went to celebrate that they had caught the witch. They dronk a lot of beer, they sing songs and where very pleased with them selfs.
Elphaba heard the lock turn when she woke up. There was a guard standing very drunk. Elphaba got up slowly and stared at the guard. She tried to look confident. She saw through the window that it was still dark.
'y…you arrrrre thhe one that I…I want.' Says the guard with a double tongue. 'W….We arrrre going to have aaaaaaa lot of fun toggggether.' he added, opening the cell door. 'I'd likkke to knooow if you're grrrreen everrrrywhere.' he says, running his hand through her hair.
Elphaba shook her head as she lifts her knee hard and hit the guard hard. The guard falls down in pain.
'You stupid witch I'll get you.' He groans. Elphaba kicks his head so that he is unconscious. She slips out of the carriage. She closed quitly the door. Elphaba pauses to hear if she could run away and her eyes a chance to adjust to the dark. She only heard some snoring.
She ran in the woods. Elpahab kept running at a slow pace because she could keep it up for a long time. Her back and legs hurt. But she kept breathing calmly through her nose. She kept running like that for half an hour.
Elphaba looked back thinking she heard something. therefore she did not see the root sticking out of the ground.. Since her hands are trapped behind her back, she couldn't catch herself. She fell hard to the ground. Her head hits the ground. Her last thoughts were with Glinda before she loses consciousness.
The lieutenant woke up because the sun was out. He went to see if the other guards were already busy with breakfast before waking everyone up. He walked across the camp already smelling bacon and eggs. He turned and went to wake everyone up. Most had a headache from the night before partying. The lieutenant had no pity. He appointed two men to accompany him to feed the witch.
He wanted to open the door with his key but noticed that the door was already open. He looked surprised and signaled to his men to have the weapons ready. He slowly opened the door and saw Michael lying where the witch is supposed to be. He felt his anger build up. He dismissed his men who were only too happy to continue eating. The lieutenant walked in and slammed the door.
Michael woke up and looked around in surprise. His head hurt a lot. He saw his boss James with an angry face. He got up right away. 'What's going on James' asks Michael.
'I don't have a clue. You're the one lying here on the floor in the cell where the Witch is supposed to be smelling of beer. '
Slowly the memories returned of how he tried to seduce the witch. He remembered the pain of the witch's knee. Michael told James everything. Who got more and more angry.
'You STUPID retard! How could you do this? The witch escaped because of you. We have until noon to find her. I hope we find her or you will be blamed. You know what Morrible can do.'
Michael looks at the ground all the time. He knows James is right. He didn't know what got into him last night. He did everything he could to keep from getting to Morrible. That person is just scary. The only reason he joined her was because of her power.
James called everyone together. Michael explained everything again. Everyone was very angry with him. But they all helped search. Fortunately the sun was already shining so they could search better. They had to catch the witch as soon as possible. It's a secret mission. The longer they stay away the more it would stand out. They are richly rewarded by Morrible. But the longer it takes, the less money they get. They would be the heroes of Oz and never have to work again. But they had to caught the witch first again. They went searching with nine men.
Meanwhile Elphaba wakes up. She looks around confused. She felt some dried blood on her forehead. Her body hurt. What happened? she thought. She tried to talk and move her hands. But quickly came to the conclusion that that was no longer possible. Her memories came back slowly.
Okay Elphaba, you escaped earlier and better than expected. But now what. she thought. I need to get my hands free so I can get that stupid thing off. As soon as I can do magic again, I'll turn that stupid guards into frogs.
She crept slowly to the tree. That way she could slowly push herself up. She looked around and saw nothing sharp. She walked around quietly and kept her ears open. Because the guards could already be looking for her.
James was getting more frustrated by the hour. They still hadn't found the witch and it was already noon. He and his men were hungry and tired. He was about to abandon the search if he hears anything. It sounded like a rustle. He beckoned his men and followed the sound. He pushed a bush aside and saw that the witch had her hands almost loose.
He jumped out of the bushes and ran towards her. The witch was startled by the sound. She immediately ran away with a full sprint. The men got closer because they were faster, but Elphaba knew the forest. Elphaba cleared roots, shrubs and stones with ease. The guards kept getting delayed. A guard fell over a root and others had to push the bushes aside. Elphaba had almost shaken them off when she is tackled from the side by Michael. They hit the ground hard.
Elphaba immediately started kicking Michael off her. She had her hands almost loose. Michael was rid of her. She crawled away from him and finally had her hands free. She was just about to get up and run, but someone jumped on her back again. Soon the other guards came to help him. And she was caught again.
The guard wanted to tie her hands behind her back when James tells his men to put the hands forward. He tied a piece of string to it and began pulling her along. 'came along witch. Now you have no where to go. Be a good Frogg' He smirk
Now and then he pulled a little harder so that she almost stumbled. The other guards kicked or hit her hard.
Ooh what a bunch of big boys they are. Elphaba thought sarcastically. Nice to hear that they dare with nine men against a woman who is tied up. As soon as they returned to the camp, she was immediately thrown back into her cell.
They tied her hands to the bars. So she couldn't escape again. she heard the guards talking happily to each other. She smelled that they were cooking. Her stomach began to rattle. She hadn't eaten for nearly a whole day. Her last meal was last night. Now it was almost time for dinner again.
After an hour, three guards came with food. 'We remove your mouth cap, but you only open your mouth to eat. If you say something, we'll shoot you right away. Understood.
Elphaba looked straight at him and nodded. They loosened the screws. That way she could move her jaw again. The mouth cap was also detached from behind her head. For the first time Elphaba was able to breathe properly. She received the leftover food from the guards. She was given some water and some dry bread. She was fed roughly because her hands remained tied. 'I got quite a lot for a prisoner.' She thought.
Elphaba ventured to speak. 'So how tough do you feel about treating a woman like that? What do you get from Morrible?' She immediately got slapped in the face.
" You're not a woman you're a dirty witch.' A guard says. They put her face mask back on. The guard retightened the screws. Elphaba was left alone. Her whole body was full of bruises. She couldn't do anything anymore so decided to relax
After a while she felt the carriage move. This is it she thought. I'm going to the palace. My fate rests in the hands of Morrible and the wizard.
Elphaba woke up the next day. Through the window she saw the sun rise again. She was fed again by the same guards. She tried again to tell her story. It is her last hope.. 'Why are you doing this to me? I haven't done anything wrong. I'm only helping. ' Again Elphaba was hit and verbally abused.
"You're Wicked for being green and telling lies."
Always because I'm green. Why are those Ozians so small-minded? Elphaba thought sadly.
Elphaba was still being fed that evening by three guards. She watched the sun slowly pass. Elphaba had all day to think. She thought of everything and nothing. She saw the Emerald city approaching.
The next stop, the palace, she thought.
It was dark when the carriage stopped at the palace. Elphaba woke with a start when she heard the sound of the door. Two men entered and roughly led her to the dungeons. There she was thrown hard against the wall while they tied her up. She was chained to the wall with her hands and feet. The guards left her alone. It was cold and dark in the dungeons. Luckily there was some moonlight shining through the small windows
Now I have to wait and hope that I get another chance to escape. She thought. She heard a door open next to her. She looked up. She saw a small woman who looked familiar to her. She was wearing a dirty dress and looking thin. But not too skinny. she was wearing red shoes that looked familiar to her. Her eyes widened when she saw who was there. She wanted to scream her name but she couldn't. NESSA!
'Fabala?!' Nessa whispert loudly. 'What in Oz are you doing here? What is that thing on youre face?' she asks as she walks to her sister.
'Ooh sweet Oz Fabala. You`re all covered in bruises.' She says shocked. 'I..I am so sorry. This is all my fault. If I hadn't been so vain and haughty with Boq, with everything. This never had happened. It's my fault you had to run. You were always there for me. When you needed my help, all I thought was myself. I was selfish. I am so sorry. Nessa said with tears. At last she couldn't stop it and started to cry as she felt before Elphaba. Nessa thought she would never see her sister again. So she took her chance to tell her how sorry she was about everything
Elphaba wanted to say everything to her sister. That it wasn't her fault. That she still loved her. That she forgave Nessa for everything. Elphaba began to cry with frustration and grief to see her sister so broken. Nessa stood up and hugged her sister. They cried toghter. It is a good reunion for the Thropp sisters. Elphaba thought. To bad it happend in a dungeon.
How long did she sit here, Elphaba wondered.
After a few minutes Nessa stopped crying. She told Elphaba everything that happened after Elphaba went to the palace to free the Monkeys. she did not reveal to Elphaba that she lied to Boq about what happened to him and that Boq blames Elphaba for everything.
Instead she talked about Morrible's arrival. How Morrible had always threatened her with terrible things but had not yet done anything. Nessa couldn't figure out why. She said she pretended she still couldn't walk. While she was alone shou could practise how to walk. The guards had stopped locking her cell after a few days because they thought Nessa could not escape after all. She walked to the other cells and talk to the Animals.'
Sometimes the guards would bring her an old dirty blanket when it was a cold night. She said she was actually treated well here except that she was not allowed out and was threatened by Morrible.
Elphaba listened patiently but wanted nothing more than to yell at Nessa to take that thing off her mouth so that Elphaba could tell Nessa something too.
After Nessa was done she looked at Elphaba who gave her a look. Nessa laughed nervously. 'Sorry I forgot that thing. It was actually quite handy to tell my story without you getting involved. "
Elphaba rolled her eyes. While Nessa loosens the screws with great effort. She carefully removed Elpahaba`s face mask.
Elphaba moved her jaw and took a deep breath. 'Thank you Nessa. And I love you too. I`m happy to see you. I forgave you. You are my sister.' Elphaba said softly. She had tears in her eyes. Nessa sniffles.
Elphaba told her story but didn`t said anything about her love for Glinda. The sisters talk quitely. They enjoy each others company. Nessa and Elphaba where both happy that they could talk to somebody. But after Nessa yawned for the third time Elphaba told her to go to her cell. 'We will come up with a plan to escape tomorrow. Now we are both tired. It's going to be fine, Nessa. I'm there for you.' Elphaba explained.
Nessa put Elpbaha`s mouth mask back on. She tightens the screws again. Nessa looked in Elphaba`s eyes. Nessa felt very guilty but one look from her sister and she regained hope. Nessa was so happy that Elphaba was here. Now they had a chance. She had hope again. Her sister had forgiven her and tomorrow they were going to come up with a plan to escape. Everything was going to be fine. It had to.
