The twins were born on October 1st and it was now October 4th. Ashleigh and the twins had to stay in the hospital for a few days but when it was time to go home, she got nervous about having them at home and it being just her and George to take care of them.
"We'll be okay", George smiled as they walked in the front door with the babies; both were sleeping. They went to their bedroom and put them in the bassinets, making sure to turn the baby monitor on. Fred decided he'd stay at The Burrow for the first week so they could have time alone to adjust to having the babies around.
"I hope you're right", Ashleigh smiled and got into comfy pyjamas. "I'm gonna take a nap", she said, kissing George on the cheek and laid down.
"I'll make dinner and get you up in a couple hours", he told her. She nodded and fell asleep minutes later. She didn't realize how exhausted she still was.
George left the room and went to the living room to relax before making dinner. He sat down with a magazine. He sat there for an hour when there was a knock on the door. He didn't know who it would be. No one ever used the door. He got up to answer it.
"Hermione? Fred's not here, he's staying at The Burrow this week. Why'd you use the door instead of floo?" He asked her.
"I didn't wanna just intrude on you guys, now that you have the babies. But I'm not here to see Fred; I came to talk to Ashleigh. Is she awake?"
"She napping actually. I can tell her you stopped by and get her to owl you when she wakes", George told her.
"Okay, thanks George", Hermione smiled.
"No problem. Is something wrong? Something I can help you with?" George asked, noticing that Hermione was acting strange.
"No, it's something I need Ashleigh's help with. Thanks though", Hermione smiled and walked down the stairs.
George closed the door and went back to his magazine for a while and then heard a baby crying. He went to the room quickly, hoping he hadn't woken Ashleigh. He opened the door and saw Ashleigh sitting up, feeding one of the babies.
"I was trying to get here before he woke you", George whispered.
"That's okay, he's hungry and you don't have the equipment to feed him", she laughed.
"True", he laughed quietly. Ashleigh finished feeding Mason and then fed Callum as he woke almost right after she was done with Mason. "Hermione was here a little while ago. She said she needed your help with something. So I told her I'd get you to owl her when you woke up", George told her. She nodded and did just that once Callum was finished eating.
Hermione came back over after dinner and Ashleigh asked George to go to the bedroom so they could sit on the couch and talk privately. Ashleigh made them each a cup of tea and sat down with Hermione.
"So what's up?" Ashleigh asked.
"I think Fred's cheating on me", she whispered, tears threatening to fall.
"What? Why would he do that?" Ashleigh asked.
"I dunno. We've been together for almost four years; it'll be four years at the end of this month. Maybe it was just a school romance for him", Hermione sighed.
"I don't think so Hermione. Why do you think he's cheating on you?"
"For the past little while, every time I see him, I smell perfume on him. A different kind than what I wear and not one that they have in the shop", Hermione told her. "He seems really distant with me too".
"I don't think he'd cheat on you. Maybe the perfume is just someone's who has come into the shop", Ashleigh told her.
"The same one, every time?"
"Okay, that does seem odd. But Fred loves you Hermione, I can tell from the way he looks at you".
"I'm not so sure anymore", Hermione whispered, looking to the floor. Ashleigh scooted over to her and pulled her into a hug.
"He does, Hermione. I know he does", Ashleigh told her just as a baby started crying. "I'll be right back, George can't feed them, so I have to check". Ashleigh went into the bedroom and saw George holding both babies.
"I think they're hungry", he said.
"Alright, I'm still talking to Hermione so bring him out and I'll put them in their seats", Ashleigh said as she took Callum from George. He nodded and followed her out. He saw Hermione on the couch who had silent tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Are you okay?" George asked, after putting Mason in his seat beside the couch.
"George, it's none of your business. I'm talking with her to help. Please go back to the bedroom", Ashleigh said.
"I'm gonna go to The Burrow for a bit, instead of being trapped in the bedroom", he told her.
"Okay, tell everyone I said hi", she said, kissing George. A few minutes later, he was gone. Ashleigh was still holding Callum and had to breast feed him. "Sorry you have to see this", she said sheepishly.
"It's okay. It's perfectly natural", Hermione told her.
"I seriously don't think he's cheating on you. But you're gonna have to talk to him. And if I know George, he's gonna tell Fred you're here crying when he gets to The Burrow", Ashleigh told her.
"I don't know how to bring it up though".
"Just sit him down and tell him how you feel and ask him where the perfume comes from", Ashleigh told her. Just then Fred came through the fireplace. "I told you. George can't keep his mouth shut", Ashleigh sighed.
"Oh, sorry!" Fred said, closing his eyes when he saw Ashleigh feeding Callum. Ashleigh couldn't hold in her laughter at his reaction.
"It's fine", she laughed.
"George said-"
"Of course 'George said' something, he always does. Such a big mouth", Ashleigh said, shaking her head.
"Hermione what's wrong?" He asked.
"Now or never", Ashleigh whispered. Hermione nodded her head and got up. She grabbed Fred's hand and took him to his room.
"Are you pregnant now?" He asked.
"No... Not that I know of anyway", Hermione said, sitting on his bed.
"Okay, so what's wrong?" He asked, sitting beside her.
"I have to ask you something and you need to be honest with me. I can tell when you're lying, so please don't try", she started. He waited expectantly. "You've gotten distant with me, you always smell like a perfume you don't sell and I don't wear".
"Hermione, do you think I'm cheating on you?" She nodded her head as more tears fell. "Look at me", he said, lifting her chin. "I would never cheat on you. I love you. I'm sorry if it seems I've been distant, I haven't meant to. And the perfume is from someone who keeps coming to the shop, trying to flirt with me and she doesn't keep her hands to herself", Fred told her. Hermione flicked her eyes back and forth, staring into his eyes to tell if he was lying. "Hermione, I'm telling you the truth. I love you and only you".
"I believe you", she whispered and closed the distance between them. "I'm sorry for not trusting you and thinking the worst".
"It's okay. But I will never do that to you. Believe me when I say that", he told her. She nodded and they left the bedroom.
"Everything okay now?" Ashleigh asked as she put Mason back in his seat.
"Never better", Hermione smiled.
"Good. That's what I wanna hear", Ashleigh smiled. "You guys can stay for a bit, I'll go crazy if I'm here by myself".
"Are you sure?" Fred asked.
"Fred, this is yours and George's apartment. I refuse to ask you to leave. I didn't even want you to go to The Burrow for the week. I felt like I was imposing and kicked you out".
"I went to The Burrow because I figured you guys needed some family time to bond. Don't feel like that, it was my choice and I'll stick by it", Fred told her, giving her a hug.
"Fine. But still, stay a while. Hold the babies if you want, just don't leave me alone", Ashleigh begged. "How pathetic is that?" She laughed at herself.
"Very, but we'll stick around", Fred laughed.
Fred and Hermione hung around for a few hours, until George returned home and then the couple left.
