She sat on the couch, and just looked at him with tears slowly flowing.
"Em? Why tears? Hun, you have to trust me. I'm not going anywhere".
She needed to pace. She got up, and he pulled her back to the couch. Her eyes widened at his reaction. He was in shock too, considering he never condoned touching a woman without her wanting it, but he couldn't take her leaving again.
"I need to pace. I'm not leaving"
"Ok. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to….."
"I don't have the best track record", she chuckled.
She got up and paced. It was easier to talk without looking at him. He was the only guy she really let in that way. It was one thing to have meaningless sex, and even have a baby daddy. It's something else to spill your paranoid thoughts to someone you trust yet afraid they'll leave.
Grabbing tissue, she paced and began.
"Listen, it may sound crazy, or stupid, but if we are to trust each other, just let me finish, ok?"
"I'm here no matter what".
"Alright, when I left I was so angry. I wanted to forget everything you were attached to, and this business. I also knew I was feeling sick for a couple weeks. I figured it was the travel schedule. In the airport bathroom, I saw. I was going to be a mom. It changed everything. That was when I called Shane. He flew out later that night, and I told him. It changed everything".
He nodded remembering the timeline.
"I slept at the apartment. It was night three. I had a breakdown. I woke up in a bad night sweat screaming. I vaguely remember it, but what caused it was the dream. We were getting married. It was beautiful. It was the famous 'If anyone had a reason to object to this union, speak now' bullshit. Melina came out of nowhere and convinced you not only to walk but took our child with you. I want to kill you both. I wanted to also just die".
He just looked at her wide eyed. No judgement but guilt. Knowing she thought that he would do that to her. He loved her way too much to be that much of an asshole to do that.
"I woke Shane up out of his sleep, and spent the rest of the night in the ER. The next day I met with doctors, and the sleeping pills were introduced and met Tim….my therapist. By the time you guys found me, I was working on slowly distancing myself from it all. Just contracts. I had to figure out why I thought this. Why I always run from guys who try, and stick it out with guys who are just douchebags. Trust issues are a bitch. I do like to think I've gotten better but it's still a work in progress. I want to know that we won't fall apart. If we do, we won't be assholes about the kids".
She stopped, and turned thinking he was on the couch. He was right beside her, wiping a tear of his own away.
"First, thank you for finally letting me back in. Second, I'm sorry. Truly. I know I said it before, but I hadn't thought about how it truly affected you after you left. I was just so mad you left, and then sad I couldn't talk to you. Then I realized it was more I couldn't have you. It wasn't fair to you to be in that mind set of just wanting you because I couldn't have you. I needed to figure out if I was an asshole or if I was genuine".
"What changed?"
"I truly figured out you were the one. You are my best friend, lover, and one day my wife. You are also Emylee. You are also your own person, and if that meant after I came to you and you didn't want anything to do with me, I needed to be happy with the time we had. Glad you gave me another chance though", he grinned.
"I'm just scared. Its the one thing I can't control".
"Don't. You remember what you told me?"
"Yeah", she grinned.
"Well, let it be. FOr the record, I'd never take the kids from you. I hope you realize that now".
"I do. I realized a lot after the Dwayne entanglement"
"Ok Jada. I'm not Will Smith. I'll whoop somebody ass".
They both laughed and hugged. Staying like that until Anna busted into the room like a tornado.
"Em, are you coming home with us?"
Dave stepped back, folding his arms, looking at her waiting for a response. Emylee looked between the two. Dave picked up Anna, and they both watched her.
"I think it's time little one", she grinned.
"Yay! Mom is moving back home!", she yelled jumping into Emylee's arms. Dave grinned and hugged the two of them. She wasn't completely sure, but it was time. It was time, it was time to fix things, and truly the relationship a chance, no matter what happened.
Both of their phones went off, and they put Anna down to check their phones.
"Trish's water broke".
