Kellyn and Kris: A Fierce Fight
Meanwhile in Pallet Town, Kris was teleported onto Red and Yellow's couch and she soon woke up with a jolt as she looked around, noticing that it was still dark out.
'Where…where am I? Hrm? Red and Yellow's house…that means…Kellyn really did have me and his Pokémon teleported away! B-b-but…Kellyn…' Kris thought as Espeon materialized in front of her, making her jump in surprise.
'Kris…I can't locate Kellyn for the first time in my life. We need to get the Dex Holders to help us right now!' Espeon said as Kris took Kellyn's Pokémon and got up from the couch.
"Got it, I'll look for Red or Yellow right away!" Kris said as soon came across Red and Yellow hanging out in their kitchen.
"Huh? Kris? What's up? I thought you were in Goldenrod City with Kellyn, did something happen?" Yellow asked as Kris and Espeon hurried over to the two.
"Y-yes…Kellyn and I were about to turn in for the night but…H-Hunter J…she attacked us…a-and Kellyn…h-he…he…" Kris said as she broke down sobbing.
Red and Yellow gathered a blanket and some water for Kris in an attempt to soothe her frayed nerves. After taking some deep breaths, Kris managed to regain her composure while Espeon sat beside her.
"Okay Kris, I know it's rough, but please, try to give us an idea of what took place." Red said as Kris closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths.
"Alright, I'll…I'll try. So…the two of us were attacked by Hunter J as we neared my house…she was as relentless and vicious as Kellyn said she was. Kellyn's Dragonite was hit hard out of nowhere and Kellyn engaged in a battle with her, but Hunter J had her Salamence knock into us and we began to fall...but Kellyn had Espeon teleport all of us away while he sacrificed himself." Kris said as Red and Yellow processed the information.
"Wow…we have to move, fast! Yellow, let's contact every Dex Holder in the region!" Red said as Yellow and Red took out their Pokégears.
"Espeon…how can we find Kellyn? I'm…I'm at a loss for what to do…" Kris said.
'Even I am at a loss my friend, no matter how hard I try, I still cannot locate Kellyn. I'll keep trying to find him…I just have to.' Espeon said.
Red and Yellow were able to get ahold of Gold, Blue and Green and informed them of everything going on. Kris in the meantime let out all of Kellyn's Pokémon as well as her Suicune, each of them having a fierce and intense look in their eyes. It didn't even take five minutes for Blue, Green and Gold to burst into the house, startling the other occupants.
"W-we came over here as soon as we could. What can we do to help?" Gold asked as they gathered around the kitchen.
"I…I genuinely don't know, but I do know that we have to find out where Kellyn is. If we locate him, then we can find Hunter J." Kris said.
"Hmm, that's a bit of a problem, if we're unsure as to where Kellyn is…then it might take some time to pinpoint his location…" Green said as Kris got an idea.
"Wait…I got it! Let's ask Chairperson Erma for help, the Ranger Union has some amazing technology at their disposal! Espeon, do you have enough energy to bring me to the Ranger Union?" Kris asked as Espeon nodded.
'I do, let's go!' Espeon said as the Psychic-type transported Kris to the newly repaired Top Operator's room.
The first thing Kris and Espeon saw was Chairperson Erma with a headset on, feverishly working at the command center with the four monitors attempting to get a good read of an area. Upon spotting Kris, Chairperson Erma welcomed her and Kris and Espeon over to the command center, with Chairperson Erma taking a little breather.
"Hi Kris and Espeon. I suspected something happened to my darling boy when his Styler location was shown to have vanished at Goldenrod City. I've been up for a few hours trying to pinpoint at the very least where Kellyn's Styler is…it's taking some time but I suspect I'll be able to eventually find it." Chairperson Erma said.
"I'm so worried about Kellyn…I'll do whatever it takes to find him, it just seems like there's nothing I can do." Kris said.
"Oh dearie, chin up! I'm just as worried about him as you are, all we can do is wait for now until I locate Kellyn or his Styler." Chairperson Erma said as the four monitors began to ping off.
"Aha, found it! Kellyn's Styler is located in…Blackthorn City? Isn't that the city of ninjas?" Chairperson Erma asked.
"It is, they're notorious…but the fact that the city is hard to get to makes it perfect for Hunter J. But…this is still some news, that means we're closer to finding Kellyn!" Kris said as the ground began to rumble.
Chairperson Erma looked worried, and for good reason as well, considering that her son was missing and Hunter J was on the loose. Acting quick, the Chairperson picked up the intercom that was nearby, sweat coming down the woman's face.
"Attention all Ranger Union staff, vacate the premises immediately. Take your Pokémon and wake up your friends if they're still asleep! Run for it!" Chairperson Erma said.
The result involved hundreds of elite level staff as well as Area Rangers and their Pokémon fleeing out of the Ranger Union in a collective drove. Chairperson Erma then sat down and breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that her staff would be out of harm's way.
'Everyone…get down right now.' Espeon said as everyone dove for the floor.
Moments later, a powerful explosion rocked the Ranger Union building, taking off a good portion of Top Operator's room as debris was strewn across the room. Several larger sized chunks came close to hitting Chairperson Erma and Kris, though Espeon's Psychic powers crumbled the rocks to mere dust as the Pokémon's expression flashed with anger from the attack. Chairperson Erma and Kris hurried to safety as the three hid underneath the command center's table for cover as the building's shaking ceased. Once the dust cleared, the group saw a pair of figures approaching on top of a Skarmory and braced themselves. Everyone gasped in shock as they saw Giovanni and Kellyn on top of the Steel-type Pokémon, with Giovanni wearing his trademark, all black suit, while Kellyn sported a black trench coat with his hands in the coat pockets, though his wrists were getting clamped down by two small rings.
'K-Kellyn…' Espeon said as Giovanni gave a vicious grin, while Kellyn had no expression, as if he were void of any emotion.
"Kris…how humorous it is to see you here after all these years. You and the other Dex Holders may have bested me and Team Rocket long ago…but now we've got your boyfriend in our clutches. You three should be lucky…he'll be the death of you first, along with all of Kanto, Johto and Almia." Giovanni said as Kellyn hopped off the Skarmory, giving the two women and Espeon a deadly, heart stopping stare.
'Can…can I even reason with Kellyn in his mind-controlled state? I…I figure it's worth a try.' Kris thought as Chairperson Erma began to tremble.
"S-son…I know you're in there somewhere!" Chairperson Erma said as Kellyn turned his attention to her.
"Air Slash, go." Kellyn said.
'No!' Espeon said as the Pokémon moved in front of Chairperson Erma.
The Skarmory launched a large, but quick moving blade towards Chairperson Erma, only for Espeon to reflect it back at the Skarmory with the help of Mirror Move, almost knocking Giovanni off.
"Gah…you've got some nerve you purple furball. I won't waste time on you three, instead, I'll go back to J and have Kellyn kill all of you here and now." Giovanni said as he hopped back on Skarmory and took off.
"Giovanni, get back here!" Kris shouted as Kellyn took a few steps forward.
Upon closer inspection of Kellyn, Kris noticed that the rings on his wrists were far too small, and even looked like they were digging into his skin, which disturbed everyone.
"K-Kellyn...I'm sorry you're in so much pain…but…in order to help you we're going to have to stop you…" Kris said.
Chairperson Erma sent out a Sylveon while Kellyn on the other hand took off his trench coat and it fell to the ground, revealing his tattered Top Ranger uniform and two Pokéballs.
'Hm? Two Pokémon are all that Kellyn has? Why would Giovanni leave Kellyn without a full set?' Kris wondered as Kellyn sent out both Pokémon.
Espeon readied for a tough battle upon seeing the fearsome Tyranitar and Chandelure, rightfully so, as the massive, green bipedal Pokémon with tough armor plating, as well as the floating Pokémon looking like a possessed chandelier were both foes to not be taken lightly.
Initially, Kellyn was going to have the two Pokémon attack, but paused, which made three women rush to get their Pokémon to attack, though Kellyn began to shake.
'It seems that Kellyn's trying his hardest to fight the mind control he's under. I can tell by looking at his wrists…' Espeon said.
Kris turned her attention to Kellyn's wrists and saw that the rings were digging deeper into his skin, making his wrists bleed profusely as he winced in agonizing pain.
"Oh no…we have to stop Kellyn now! Espeon, Dazzling Gleam!" Kris commanded as Espeon shot forward a harsh pink ray of light.
The move was powerful as it hit Tyranitar and Chandelure, though the ghostly Pokémon managed to shrug off most of the moves effects. Kellyn had the Chandelure lurch forward and hit Espeon with a Shadow Ball, though the Psychic-type barely reflected it with Mirror Move, making the floating Pokémon dodge the counterattack. Sylveon let loose a Shadow Ball on Chandelure, which hit the Pokémon and sent it far back. Kellyn however, didn't retaliate and was instead continuing to fight the mind control, with the rings digging more and more deeper into his skin. The Tyranitar and Chandelure suspected that Kellyn wasn't able to command them to do battle, and instead decided to do it themselves. Tyranitar launched a Hyper Beam at the group, though Espeon used Protect just in time to save everyone from the impact as the floor received some minor cracks. Immediately after the Hyper Beam was finished and the Protect was taken down, Chandelure did a sneak attack on Espeon with a close range Shadow Ball.
"Gah, Espeon!" Kris said as the Pokémon got back up.
'I can take more damage than this, I have to get Kellyn back to his senses!' Espeon said as Kris had the Pokémon use Bite on the Chandelure, making it recoil back and move towards the Tyranitar.
Tyranitar stomped forward and launched a Flamethrower, with the Chandelure joining in soon after. Kris and Chairperson Erma swiftly moved out of the way, with the equipment behind them taking damage and melting away. Kris saw that Kellyn continued to fight the control the rings had over him, with his wrists bleeding more and more. Deciding to take drastic measures, Kris tried scurrying over to Kellyn, though not before the Chandelure spotted Kris.
"Sylveon, Shadow Ball, go!" Chairperson Erma said as her Pokémon launched a shadowy ball of energy, knocking the Chandelure away from Kris and into the wall.
Kris took advantage of Espeon and Sylveon distracting the monstrous Tyranitar and swift Chandelure, making sure to be careful as she made her way over to Kellyn. It pained Kris's heart to see all the blood dripping down Kellyn's wrists and she almost made contact with him, though a large purple barrier covered Kellyn completely. Surprised, Kris turned to see Espeon using Protect while still fighting off the two opponents.
'Don't approach Kellyn, while he's fighting off the mind control the rings are sending to his brain, he could still become overpowered and attack you.' Espeon said as the Pokémon effortlessly tossed the Chandelure at the Tyranitar.
Just like Espeon stated, the rings that were attached to Kellyn's wrists soon managed to take at control of his mind as he turned to the Tyranitar and Chandelure.
"Hyper Beam, go." Kellyn said as the Tyranitar and Chandelure charged up a beam headed for Kris, who became frozen in fear.
Chairperson Erma ordered Sylveon to use Mirror Move and the near lightning fast Pokémon hopped in front of the attack, making it quickly bounce right back at the two Pokémon, causing a small explosion. The smoke resulting from the two moves hitting the Pokémon didn't even get to clear as Espeon repeatedly and relentlessly fired Shadow Balls at the Chandelure, which continuously got hit from the usually calm Pokémon, which was now seething with rage. Once the smoke did clear, the Chandelure had already fainted, while Espeon was breathing heavily.
'We're going to bring you back to your senses Kellyn, I'll do whatever it takes!' Espeon said.
"Tyranitar, Dark Pulse!" Kellyn said.
Tyranitar roared and released a wave of black energy towards its enemies, hitting Espeon hard while Sylveon reeled back along with Kris and Chairperson Erma.
"We're not letting that stop us, Sylveon, Dazzling Gleam, go!" Chairperson Erma said.
A bright pink ray of light was shot out of the Pokémon's mouth and hit Tyranitar in a weak point in its armor, making it collapse and fall to the ground as one of Kellyn's rings shattered.
'O-one of the rings…it broke…' Kris thought as Kellyn shook his head.
"Not done yet…" Kellyn said as Chandelure slowly got back up.
Despite being well hidden from view, Chandelure's Focus Sash fell off of its body as it floated forward and charged up a fiery move.
"Heat Wave." Kellyn said as Chandelure shot a massive wall of flames towards Chairperson Erma.
"Espeon, Psychic, go!" Kris said.
Espeon's eyes glowed a bright purple and a wave of Psychic energy shot at the wall of flames, dispersing it immediately. Without missing a beat, Chairperson Erma had Sylveon use Shadow Ball once more on Chandelure and the Pokémon couldn't counter the attack in time as it took a direct hit and collapsed. Kellyn recalled both fainted Pokémon back to their Pokéballs, which vanished instantly thanks to the work of Giovanni installing a teleportation device on both of them. Now that the Chandelure and Tyranitar fainted, everyone had hopes that Kellyn would go back to normal and luckily, the second bracelet, covered with blood, had shattered into pieces.
Espeon removed the barrier that was placed over Kellyn as he rubbed his head, with Kris and Espeon quickly heading towards Kellyn while Chairperson Erma healed Sylveon and put it back in its Pokéball. In no time, Chairperson Erma soon joined Kris and Espeon in reaching Kellyn, with the three of them jumping over various cracks and holes in the floor. Kellyn slowly walked towards the group as he snapped out of his mind control and came back to his senses.
'Ugh…where am I…why do I feel so…dizzy?' Kellyn thought as he hobbled forward.
Kellyn's knees buckled right as Chairperson Erma and Kris reached him, and he held onto the two so that he'd avoid collapsing to the ground as blood stained their clothes.
"Kris…mom…Espeon…what happened?" Kellyn asked.
'Giovanni and Hunter J put two rings around your wrists and hit you with some powerful mind control. The harder you resisted, the more they dug into your flesh.' Espeon said as Chairperson Erma took out Sylveon and had it use Heal Pulse on Kellyn, making the deep wounds and blood disappear.
Since the pain and cuts were gone from Kellyn, he stood back up and took a deep breath as the group pondered about what to do next.
"Kellyn, do you remember anything about where you were when Hunter J took you away?" Chairperson Erma asked as she recalled her Sylveon.
"I…I don't, all I know is that any memories I have from the time I got kidnapped to the time I was freed from mind control is just a complete blur." Kellyn said.
"As long as you're fine, that's what matters! Chairperson Erma told us that your Styler was located in Blackthorn City and we were prepared to head there." Kris said.
Kellyn looked puzzled before he promptly dug into his pocket to retrieve his Styler, which he then put back on his wrist.
"Hmm, so they spoofed your Styler location…I suspect Hunter J and Giovanni did so because they knew either Kris or myself would go to Blackthorn City and then they'd set up an ambush…" Chairperson Erma said.
"Wow, very diabolical…what do you suppose we do now?" Kris asked as Espeon cuddled up with Kellyn, who rubbed the Pokémon's head affectionally.
"As crazy as it sounds, we can all head to Blackthorn City. There's a possibility that Hunter J and Giovanni may not have tried spoofing the location and could actually be there right now, or it really could be a trap, where we'll be prepared and ambush the ambushers." Chairperson Erma said.
"Alright, I like how that sounds, let's go to Blackthorn City." Kellyn said as Kellyn got a call on his Styler.
Seeing that it was Gold calling, Kellyn answered right away, wondering if anything was taking place.
"Kellyn, Kris…cities all across Kanto are under attack, the assault is coming from Blackthorn City!" Gold said as everyone froze.
'Blackthorn City…I know why they're using that place to attack from. Giovanni knows that you guys saved Kanto and Johto beforehand, but he's aware that the Dex Holders live in Kanto, not Johto, so a response time would take longer as you guys race to help out both regions.' Espeon said.
"That's right, and even worse is that each place is getting attacked by swarms of agents. We're already in the most populous towns and cities to do damage control and capture these goons, you guys head to Blackthorn City!" Gold said as he hanged up.
"You heard the man, let's go there and save Kanto! Mom, Kris, Espeon, you guys ready?" Kellyn asked.
"Definitely, let's go!" Chairperson Erma said as Espeon teleported the three trainers to Blackthorn City.
