A/N #1: It was great to get the feedback for the last chapter, so I'll get to my thank yous! TORONTOSUN (I was happy to see you liked the action in the story. And that you thought it was very good writing too, along with great details!) and
Mb (Happy to see you thought the last chapter was a sweet update. And it was great you were glad that Darnley was able to come to terms with what happened with his brother and his family because of Nkosi's help. I was glad that you thought their family moment with their kids at breakfast was sweet and you could relate to it easily. It wasn't a surprise to see that you found their affection as you put it for each other and their kids, along with wanting to do more but not being able to because of their work was relatable. I wasn't surprised to see that you were notice that Skye and Mary were similar in wanting to do more like Darnley and Nkosi but not being able to because of work. And I was glad to see you thought their morning was sweet! I had to laugh myself at you doing so with Castle and Beckett being able to do what the other two couples had wanted to without really worrying about work. And yeah, I did think of them being interrupted when they first started together, lol, I thought it was their turn, lol. Glad to see you thought the first half was nicely done. And you're welcome for sharing the first half too! I was happy reading you enjoyed the flashback of Beckett on suspension again with her and Castle together and her agreeing to stay for a full week at the loft. I'm glad you liked them back in DC going sightseeing for a little walking on the Mall before they had to go back to the case. I was surprised that you said you laughed at the Civil War reenactments, but I continued to read, lol, and that makes sense, lol, since I have seen that people there can be eccentric while they're authentic, lol. I wasn't surprised that you mentioned the end of the chapter, glad I got you interested with that cliffhanger. And I was really happy you thought it was fantastic story. I'm glad it's making you guess what's going to happen next and what's really going on as you put it. You're welcome for sharing the second half too!).
Thanks so much for the reviews, loved reading them as usual and I appreciate the time taken to write them out and send them my way!
A/N #2: The title of this chapter are lyrics from the song Yellow Submarine by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, from The Beatles album Revolver.
Sky Of Blue, Sea Of Green
"Allard, stop!" Darnley said as the man turned to them. When he quickly dropped the saber, he walked up to him and said, "You're under arrest for attempted murder. Castle, will you get one of the Metro PD officers to assist me?"
"Got it," he replied.
Leaving the tent after her husband, Beckett slipped her friend's spare gun into her jacket pocket before she was watching him going to one of the Washington DC police who were there since she knew the very edge of the battlefield was the part that went into the capital city. She watched the two men her husband had managed to find walk into the tent and headed in as well before she was going to the woman on the cot. "Ma'am? Ma'am are you hurt?" she was asking as the two officers and Darnley were taking Allard outside.
"No, no he was…" the woman said, sobbing as she was lowering her hands from her neck.
"Oh, Darnley," Castle said, having looked inside to check on his wife. "Darnley call paramedics."
"They're here on the field," one of the officers told the detective.
"What's wrong?" Darnley asked, looking inside the tent. "God," he breathed, seeing the livid red marks on the woman's neck. "We'll have EMTs check you out ma'am."
"Are you having any trouble breathing?" Beckett asked her. When she shook her head, she sat next to her and took her hand saying, "Any trouble talking?"
"No," the woman whispered.
When the paramedics came into the tent, Beckett needed to leave to give them room before she went to Darnley, handing him his spare as the officers had taken Allard to a patrol car.
"I would say you shouldn't, but I know I couldn't stop you," Darnley replied, kneeling to quickly put it in his ankle holster. "And thank you for having my back."
"You're welcome," Beckett replied simply. "What do you think?"
"I want to talk to her," Darnley said simply. "They're taking him to my station, I'll call Sumner so she can speak to him. But I want us to talk to her."
"Should we take her out of the tent?" Castle asked.
Looking back at it, Darnley thought for a moment and then said, "I'll let her decide."
"Were there any employees of just one company that were going to be here?" Beckett said.
"I have no clue," Darnley said. "They could have just taken the day off and shown up. But looking into who was signed up, he was the only one beside… Proulx."
Turning around as her friend was looking behind her, Beckett saw that the co-CEO was walking through people towards them and she followed Darnley with her husband.
"What's going on? I was told Allard was just arrested?" Proulx asked in confusion.
"We discovered him holding the saber he had above the woman in that tent," Darnley said. "Likely intending to harm or kill her."
"Who's the woman?" Proulx asked.
Describing her quickly, Darnley said, "Do you know her?" as the CEO looked stunned.
"That's Janey Carman," Proulx said. "She works for Potomac, at Dulles, maintenance."
"She has the day off?" Castle said.
"She does," Proulx said. "I… well I mean she's here so she either took the day off or called in sick. I don't have that information on me, you'd have to call the offices for that."
Seeing the EMTs were leaving the tent, Darnley nodded and said, "Remain here please, we might need to ask you more questions."
After the man had nodded and they were walking to the tent, Beckett asked her friend hurriedly, "That was what Allard did for Potomac."
"Yeah, they knew each other," Darnley said. "I just hope she can talk to us about it."
"Detective," the female paramedic said. "Ms. Carman is fine; she'll have contusions from the attempted strangulation she went through, but her windpipe wasn't damaged."
"Thank you," Darnley said with a nod before watching the two leaving and he nodded to Beckett, surprised when she didn't give him a look for him doing that since she was a woman.
"Ma'am?" Beckett said, walking into the tent.
"Thank you for helping me," Carman said, looking at Darnley as he and Castle entered after her. "All of you," she murmured.
"I'm Detective Patrick Darnley," he said, showing her his badge. "D.C. police. Would you mind talking to us about what happened between you and Mr. Allard."
"No, I'm… I'm okay to talk," Carman said, sniffing.
"Do you want to leave this tent? Go somewhere more comfortable?" Beckett asked her in concern as the woman was visibly trembling.
"I… yeah, I would," Carman said, standing up abruptly before she let the woman lead her out. "I know who you are," she told Beckett.
"You do?" she asked.
"Yeah, the writers… I heard you were here, but I thought you used to be police?" Carman stated.
"I am, we're here to help Detective Darnley," Beckett said. "But we know his husband and of course Investigator McDouglas."
Nodding, Carman led the three over to the clear field as the police were holding people away from the tent for another officer to take pictures of the crime scene. She stopped and said, "Lanford was my lover," as soon as the other three were looking at her.
Sharing a surprised look with his wife Castle said, "You… were having an affair?"
"He was, I'm still single," Carman said. Her face seemed to crumple, and she then said, "I wanted to be fully single."
"You were breaking up with him?" Darnley asked.
"Before he attacked me," Carman replied as she was nodding her head. She let out a sob before she said, "I told him that I was afraid he was the person who had killed the man at his other job. I heard about it and I'd known he was there."
"Why? We've looked into everyone and his name was never mentioned," Darnley said.
Shaking her head Carman said, "He did a favor for Ivan Kochanski, one of the guards. He had to leave but couldn't legally do so, he and Lanford look a lot alike and they've done that before. So he was there."
When she glanced at Darnley, Beckett saw the detective shaking his head and knew that who they'd thought was Kochanski had already been cleared. "Just for that?" she said simply.
Not surprised when Darnley looked at his wife in shock and obvious dismay, Castle glanced at her to see where she would go with that question though he had an idea why she'd asked that.
"I…" Carman said. She sighed and said, "I'd heard from coworkers at Potomac that his wife had had a miscarriage though they hadn't known they were pregnant; she was very early into it."
"You felt guilty?" Castle suggested.
"I did, and I realized I wasn't enjoying sneaking around at all anymore," Carman replied. "I wanted either him to myself or him to go back to his wife. The way he is, I knew it'd be the latter."
"And when you told him that today?" Darnley asked.
Shaking her head as she was closing her eyes, Carman reached up to wipe her eyes as tears were starting down her cheeks. "He told me he didn't want to stop what we had, but I told him he was married to his wife and I was just the fling on the side. He was supposed to go to her if something were desperately wrong and if there was something wrong with me then what could he do? He'd have to make sure his wife wouldn't be suspicious of him leaving or something like that. I said I was tired of it and…"
"And?" Beckett said.
Shaking her head Carman said, "He snapped, he reached for my throat before I could stop him, but I had a chance to scream. I dug my nails into his fingers and tried my best to scratch before he was letting me go, I screamed again when he tried to hit me, but I blocked him and he withdrew his saber. That's when you came in. Thank you so much for stopping him."
"You're welcome," Darnley said. "I'm glad that you're alright, but I'm going to have to have you come to my station in DC, to fill out a statement."
"Oh… I will," Carman replied.
"I'll have you go with two officers; my partner Detective Sumner will be there, and she'll give you the paperwork," Darnley told her.
As they were following, Castle asked his wife, "What do you think?"
Glancing at him, since he was speaking in Irish, Beckett nodded and said, "I'm not doubting the story, but of course it's not him." When her husband nodded, she was about to speak again when Carman was escorted away by two officers and she turned to Darnley before he was turning around to face them as he spoke.
"I need to meet the officers that are going to come to get evidence," he was telling the pair. "You don't need to stay but…"
"Is it okay if we walk around?" Beckett asked suddenly.
"Sure, but I don't think you're going to find all that much for the case," Darnley said.
"I just want to see the area," Beckett replied.
"Okay, after this we'll go to back into the city and have lunch," Darnley replied. "My boss doesn't want me bringing you to the station… why I don't know. So I'm not sure what we'll do after that but…"
"If you need to take us to the hotel that's fine," Beckett said quickly. "But wait until after lunch."
"Yeah, hopefully we find who it is," Darnley said. He was about to turn to leave them before he paused and turned back to them saying, "And the connection I get the feeling is still there."
"What's wrong?" Castle asked his wife when they were alone.
"I was going to tell him he should call Trevor," Beckett answered, turning towards the plantation home.
Hurrying after her, Castle said, "That's not what I was referring to."
Glancing at him, Beckett said, "I think we can go inside."
"You mean me," Castle stated. When his wife hesitated, he held his hand out to her and said, "I'll go, but where will you?"
"Around," Beckett said. Her husband nodded and she couldn't help saying, "I'm sorry Rick, I…"
"Don't worry," Castle replied, going to her. He took her hands and squeezed them tightly before saying, "Hopefully you'll talk to me later."
Beckett could only nod before she watched him leaving after squeezing her hands and once he was up the stairs leading to the house, she went to the trees that were behind it. Looking around, she tried to shake her sudden urge to go to some spot, but it wouldn't leave her, and she started to walk further into the trees before she heard a sudden noise and spun back around. Her breath seemed to still completely and she was staring at her mother before she blinked her eyes.
"Kate!"
The yell made Beckett's eyes open wide and she soon realized she was looking up at her husband and said, "What happened?"
"I don't know, I came out to find you and you were here on the ground," Castle said. He was startled when she suddenly pushed herself up and he was quick to grab her before she could fall over though she ended up keeping her balance. "You don't remember what happened?" he asked her.
Beckett had a moment's hesitation, soon telling her husband what had happened once she'd gotten behind the house. "I… everything just felt like it stopped when I saw her," she told him finally. "But it was so quick, why was she here?"
"I'm not sure," Castle said, not letting himself show her his surprise in her admitting to what she'd seen. He wrapped his arm around her and was about to suggest her mother wanted to tell her something when Darnley was calling out to them.
"Hey, what's wrong?" the detective asked as he approached them.
"Nothing," Beckett said. "I just feel a little unsettled, could we go?"
"We need to," Darnley said. "One of the officers talking with the people around here just came up to me and let me know there are three people here from Potomac or Western."
"We're going to talk to them?" Beckett asked as she nodded to her husband before they were walking after her friend.
"To one of them," Darnley said.
"No one else is employees of both?" Castle asked. "Also, how does that work?"
"That's why we might need to head to see the other CEO of Potomac," Darnley replied.
"Who is he?" Beckett said.
"She, Silvia Dyson," Darnley answered. "And she just flew in today on her private jet to deal with the incidents with their planes so she's clear."
"Any connection to Western?" Castle said.
Shaking his head, Darnley said, "Only Proulx now, they're friends." He was speaking quickly as they were reaching a man dressed as a soldier and he was about to speak when his phone suddenly started to ring. He made a motion to the two waiting to give him a minute before he stepped away with Castle and Beckett following him. He was turning his attention to answering before the other CEO of the airlines was speaking on the other end of the phone.
"Detective Darnley?" Dyson was saying.
"Yes," he replied. "Is there something I can help you with?"
"I realize there's something I forgot to tell you," Dyson replied. "There was recently an opening for VP of the airlines, the original man who had the job recently retired and we were interviewing four applicants for the job. It was an intense selection process I've been told, and the four men were speaking to the board that decided repeatedly."
"Who exactly got the position," Darnley said as he noticed her wording.
"Anthony Beasley," Dyson answered. "And while the other three men were upset, they have board jobs so I don't see why they would do anything. But I knew you would investigate our company and find that out, so I needed to communicate that to you."
"You told me no one really protested Proulx joining your airlines," Darnley said, not surprised to see Beckett was nodding in agreement with that.
"They didn't, they all knew him since he'd come to our offices so many times," Dyson said. "As we'll get parts for maintenance of our planes from Western."
"Okay, then what are the names of the other three men who had been considered for the position?" Darnley asked.
"Do… alright," Dyson said after there was some discussion in the background. "Konstantin Fonseca, Giles Heyman and Ambrose Duval."
"Alright, we need to make sure they're not involved at all ma'am," Darnley told her, seeing Castle had been writing down the names. "And once we clear them, we'll focus elsewhere."
"Of course," Dyson said.
After he'd said goodbye to the CEO, Darnley looked at the pair with him and said, "I'm guessing that was the company's lawyers with her."
"More than likely," Beckett said with a smile before she grew serious. "At least you have more possibilities."
"And motive," Castle added. "Protest against Proulx too since he's co-CEO now."
"Good point, let me talk with the last of the workers here, see about the VP search," Darnley replied.
Going with him, Castle and Beckett hung back slightly, merely listening to the conversation he was having with the two men and one woman before he walked back to them.
"Nothing," Darnley said in frustration.
"We heard, but it sounds like a standard selection for VP," Beckett said.
Nodding, Darnley said, "Let's get out and get lunch and I'll start calling in to Potomac."
"What about Skye?" Castle asked as they were starting to leave the field.
"What about… right," Darnley said. He cursed for a moment before he said, "I should have thought of that. But I'm not quite sure what else she'll be able to tell me that she hasn't already."
"It's worth a shot," Beckett told him. "She might remember they needed a new VP."
"I thought of that too," Darnley said. "Just trying not to be too optimistic," he said before they were reaching his car. "Wait," he said, looking at Castle and Beckett. "Would you mind if we grab lunch and head to Dulles?"
"That would be nice," Beckett said reassuringly. "Are you going to call?"
"I'll have to," Darnley replied. "I can't really show up without warning."
"You're lucky the investigation gives you the excuse," Castle couldn't help saying as the detective was getting his phone.
"I know," Darnley said with a nod before he was calling his husband.
Listening to the conversation, Beckett smiled when the men greeted each other and then started to talk about lunch. She glanced back at her husband and saw that he was smiling himself before Darnley hung up the phone. "Did you mention Skye?" she asked.
"I did," the detective replied in amusement. "But just to ask that she join us." Darnley started the car before he recalled something and told them, "I almost forgot, Mary has a session at the conference today so she'll be staying at the hotel for that of course. Likely having lunch with her colleagues there."
"We'll have to make sure Skye doesn't feel left out," Castle said. He smiled at his wife again when she glanced over her shoulder at him and said, "Hopefully she might have something."
"Also for their case," Beckett said, she wasn't surprised when Darnley nodded. "Do you know what we're getting already?" she asked him.
"Don't worry," Darnley replied. "I have something in mind already, hope you enjoy deli sandwiches."
"We're from New York, what kind of question is that?" Castle said jokingly.
Beckett smiled as her friend laughed and said, "That means we don't."
"Luckily," Darnley said.
Nodding her head once Beckett looked back at her husband for a moment before she looked out the window, watching the scenery as they were heading back into DC and to Dulles.
"There's no possible way that could be shearing from impact," Skye was saying as she turned from the TV screen. She sighed and then said to an investigator with her and Nkosi, "Take this to be tested in the lab, I want to know if there's any sign of metal fatigue on that cable."
"What about the bolt?" Nkosi asked her.
"Yeah, sorry," Skye replied, watching him hurrying after the man. She ran her hand over her hair for a moment before she saw a familiar car outside the hangar and smiled before walking to her co-IIC. "Your husband's here," she told him.
"Oh yeah," Nkosi said, turning and soon seeing the car as well.
"Not going to meet him?" Skye asked in surprise when he stayed next to her.
"He has something for his case," Nkosi replied.
"Hopefully that confirming connection to ours," Skye said under her breath before she watched as the three were coming out of the car.
"Do you mind if we hold off for a second on eating?" Darnley asked after he had greeted his husband simply.
"He mentioned something about your case," Skye said first.
"Is there somewhere we can go that's more private?" Darnley said.
"The room over here," Nkosi said with a nod before they were walking together over to an office at the back of the hangar.
As soon as they were inside, Darnley didn't waste any time telling the two everything that had happened since he had said goodbye to his husband. Castle and Beckett helped him with that, and they ended with the VP position being bid for by four people. When they'd stopped talking, he watched Skye as the investigator was standing and walking around in the free space of the room. "Any thoughts?" he asked eventually when she leaned against a desk.
"I know all four men," Skye replied. "And I can tell you from what I know of them they wouldn't do this, even if they were upset about losing the position. Though I will say I'm glad Anthony got the position; he'll be needed along with Proulx and Dyson right now."
"The airline's stocks have gone down," Nkosi said. "So they want to get this matter resolved of course."
"Is anyone from the airline coming to help?" Beckett asked suddenly.
"We asked them not to send anyone," Nkosi answered when Beckett looked at him pointedly. "Because we're going to be looking into the airline and Western."
"So will I," Darnley said as his husband was looking at him. "Well, Jodie and I." He turned his attention to Skye and said, "There's a better connection to our cases."
"I thought that," the investigator said with a nod. "Proulx must make a big deal of this reenactment if he's letting people take off to go."
"Do you think anyone abuses it?" Castle asked.
"I don't know, Jodie and I will have to look at the people who were off," Darnley said before his phone rang. "Excuse me," he said.
"I wonder what she could get from Allard," Castle said to his wife when they could see the detective talking outside the office.
"Probably only a confirmation of what we saw, and why he did it," Beckett said.
"I do wonder what he could do with that saber," Nkosi said. When the other three looked at him he said, "They're not sharpened, dulled. It is a reenactment."
"Not that one," Darnley said, walking into the office. He closed the door behind him and told his husband, "Jodie just talked with him and said that he confessed to not intending to take his sword out of the holder. And he snapped when Ms. Carman broke up with him, he's admitting it so that's set."
"Did she talk to Carman?" Beckett asked.
"Yeah, she said she didn't notice anything at work though I didn't have her ask about the VP selection," Darnley said. "I told her to ask Carman, she had to call her as she was just walking out and she didn't have anything to do with it. She just knew what everyone else had told us."
"Does she know you're here now?" Beckett asked.
"Yep, she doesn't mind since she wants to start with names," Darnley replied. "So she can finish sooner. But I need to go back to the station after we eat lunch." He turned to his husband and asked, "Can they stay here? I have to fill in the boss, but I'll do that quickly before I come get them."
"Get us for what?" Castle asked.
"How should I know?" Darnley replied, shrugging before he smiled as the others were laughing. "I'll see once I come back to get you."
"They can stay," Nkosi replied. "Everyone is used to them here of course."
"That fast?" Castle said.
"Yeah, they know you from me of course," Skye replied. "Just stay in or just outside the hangar though; security is a bit heightened since we're leaning towards sabotage as our cause."
"You found evidence?" Darnley asked.
"Possibly," Skye said. "The bolts holding the spoilers to the wings were sheared. Just enough to rip them off once they were used up in the air after two flights via metal fatigue."
"It's why we can't have anyone from the airlines here," Nkosi said. "And it's what we'll be looking at… after lunch."
"Then we're eating now?" Darnley said.
"I'm ready for it," Castle commented. "I'm starving."
"When are you not?" Beckett asked wryly.
"He's a growing boy," Darnley said to her with a smile. He was doing so wider when his friend was laughing softly, and he then turned his attention to the food which Beckett was taking out of the bags they'd gotten from the deli they'd stopped at. They soon started to eat, sitting together around two desks they pushed together, and he watched Beckett as she took her first bite. "Don't tell me you don't like it," he said as she was looking down at her sandwich. He was going to continue when she was continuing quickly and luckily putting him at ease about the food.
"It's good," Beckett said first. "And it reminds me of Carnegie at home… or Zabar's," she said, smiling at her husband at the latter.
"I thought it would," Darnley said, nodding his head. "As good?"
"I'd say back home is better," Castle said. "But just barely."
"I figured you'd say that," Darnley said, laughing.
"You took him those places while he was there?" Skye asked.
"I did," Beckett said with a nod. She took a bite of her sandwich and once she'd eaten it she said, "I had to."
"She's right, I've taken visitors there myself that are from out of state," Castle said in agreement. Something came to him and he asked Skye, "Have you ever been to Carnegie while it was still open?"
"No, or Zabar's," the investigator answered. "Never had a chance." She watched Castle and Beckett exchange a look before she said, "I'm guessing you're taking us next time we're there?"
"Mary?" Beckett asked. At Skye's shake of her head she said, "Most likely."
"Nice," Skye said. She couldn't help laughing as the two looked surprised and said, "I figured you'd take us to at least Carnegie if it wasn't closed."
"We'll have to work in Zabar's now," Beckett said jokingly to her husband.
"I know," Castle said. He saw Nkosi looking uncertain and told the man, "It's-"
"No, Patrick has told me all about it," the investigator said. "But I wonder how you'd be able to work in going to the market."
"We'll figure something out, like I said I have taken people there too," Castle said.
"Their gift baskets?" Darnley asked him. When the writer nodded, he smiled at Beckett and said, "She insisted I take one with me back here."
"Bagels?" Castle asked.
Shaking his head, Darnley said, "One with rugelach, fruit… that kind of basket."
"Was it good?" Skye asked.
"I finished it very quickly," Darnley replied.
Laughing, Skye said, "Then do try and work that in for us, Mary would probably like it, she loves rugelach…"
"You're thinking of her being Jewish in our past lives?" Nkosi asked.
"Not just rugelach, she does enjoy a lot of Jewish dishes," Skye said. "I don't know why we've never talked about it… I don't think it's something we'd really bring up." She then shrugged and said, "Though I might mention it to her when I see her again. How were the costumes at the field?"
"Are you talking about them all?" Castle asked.
When Skye gave her husband a look, Beckett said in amusement, "The military ones were authentic, and the dresses were as well."
"Thank you," Skye said with an incline of her head. "I'll tell Mary about the dresses; she'll be interested hearing about them."
"She likes hoop skirts?" Darnley said slowly.
"No," Skye said with a laugh. "She likes historic dress of any kind."
"Mari does too," Beckett commented. She smiled when the others looked at her and said, "She's drawn things, Julia's told us she wants to make costumes one year for Halloween."
"For herself?" Nkosi said.
"For them both," Castle said. "Though Julia said she urged Mari to just make a costume for herself."
"Does she know all the stitches she'll need? Sewing sleeves on? Skirts if she's making a dress?" Skye asked.
"She does, Rebecca was taught by her mother and she passed that on to Mari," Beckett said.
"Did Rebecca have an interest in fashion?" Darnley said.
"Passing, she wanted to study law," Beckett said.
"Her mother wanted to be a designer, but she never had a chance," Castle added. "So it's passed down."
"I hate to say this," Darnley was telling them then as he'd finished his pastrami. "But I need to go. I will try and come back as soon as I can… are you two sure you wouldn't want me to drop you off or get a cab for you?"
"We'll stay," Beckett replied.
"Do you guys have paper at all?" Castle added.
"Yeah," Skye said with a smile.
"If you think of anything text me," Darnley told them.
Telling him they would, Beckett watched with a smile as her friend and his husband went out of the hangar together. She heard rustling and turned to see it was Skye, the investigator picking up her NTSB jacket she'd removed for lunch. "You're going too?" she asked.
"Just out there," Skye replied. "You've seen where we have drinks, coffee and water."
"We saw," Castle said.
"The bathrooms are-" Skye began.
"We saw those too," Beckett interrupted her with a smile.
"Okay, now I'm sure you'll be alright just let me or Trevor know if you need anything," Skye said, smiling herself.
"What if you need to go back to the offices?" Castle asked.
"I shouldn't," Skye replied. "But we'll discuss that if we come to that point, we have a lot to look at with both planes."
"Flight 450 is still there?" Castle said in surprise.
"You didn't see it?" Skye asked him.
"I just thought the tail was there," Castle answered.
"No, it's there but we've moved part of the fuselage with the wings inside," Skye said. "Which is why I guess you thought we had brought everything in. We will eventually, but for now we're focusing on the wings."
When they were left alone Castle said to his wife, "Do you want to start?"
"We probably should," Beckett said before Skye was walking into the office again.
"Forgot this," the investigator said, setting down some papers in front of them.
"Thanks," Beckett told her.
"Not a problem, if you start talking about our case don't use Wikipedia," Skye commented.
"There're pages for the flights?" Castle asked though the investigator had left the office and hadn't heard him. He turned to his wife and was about to speak when she was putting her hand on his.
"You can look," Beckett told him. "We're not really pressed for time."
"Do you mind us being left here?" Castle said, studying her.
"No, I don't want Patrick getting in trouble," Beckett answered. She was about to look at her phone when her husband's hand took hers and she shook her head saying, "Don't."
"You know that I'm wondering," Castle said.
Beckett breathed out before she explained to him in better detail what had happened when they'd split up by the plantation home as she'd been brief before. She wasn't surprised when he was clutching her hands when she had finished and said, "I'm okay I just… I don't know why I saw her."
"Has Julia gotten in touch with you at all?" Castle asked.
"I was just going to check," Beckett said before she took her phone from her pocket. She shook her head once she had opened the screen and said, "No, but I don't think she knows, she hadn't contacted me at all."
"Why did you pass out though?" Castle said.
"I don't know," Beckett replied, shaking her head. "Let's… you were going to look at the pages for the incidents?"
"Yeah," Castle replied quickly before he took out his phone. He looked at the two and said, "Yeah there's not much, basic information," handing it to her so she could see.
"I don't think they would give out that much," Beckett said with a smile.
"Don't they do press conferences?" Castle asked.
"That's true," Beckett said as she recalled Skye telling them the night before about her having to do that when they started giving them. "Luckily she can take Trevor with her."
"Luckily," Castle said. "So… do we really want to go through all this?"
"I'm not sure what else you want to do," Beckett replied in amusement. She looked at him in surprise when he took her hand and said, "What?" before she realized the answer. "I knew you were going to say that."
"Did you?" Castle asked.
"Yes," Beckett said firmly.
"Hey, you're the one who brought up Zabar's," Castle replied.
Smiling and shaking her head, Beckett said, "We didn't go that much."
"No, but it was really nice when we did," Castle said.
"It was," Beckett replied. "Let's focus on the case, there's a lot more now."
"Okay, but I'm never going to forget that week," Castle told her.
"I'm well aware," Beckett said, smiling at her husband as he was getting paper and a pen. But she found while they were starting to go over the new names they had she couldn't forget that day after they had stopped making love to go out to their chess game.
