A/N: Shout-out to Don Thomas for the idea of the different schools. :-) I have the best people giving me feedback and suggestions. It's going to be a brief introduction in this chapter but we'll get into full on detail and techniques by the next one! Enjoy!
"So, what do ya think? You like it?"
"I'm not...opposed to it."
Krillin crossed his arms over his chest and beamed while watching Piccolo look at the images he had put together. Although its appearance was sloppy, Krillin actually put days of blood, sweat, and pencil shavings into the designs. "We can train our groups under different classes so we have a variety of techniques to work with. There's the Crane School, Kami School, Wolf School, and uh... Demon Clan. After that dear ol' dad of yours..."
The former monk sweatdropped as Piccolo glared at for a moment, but then relaxed when the green one shrugged his shoulders. "You realize you're going to need more than the Kamehameha Wave."
Krillin ran a hand over his head. From what he remembered as a kid, it took awhile to master the technique in the first place. "Y-Yeah I know, don't worry," he then spoke with more confidence. "I've got a lot planned. Trust me."
Piccolo smirked at the way Krillin interpreted his insignia. "I hope you're not planning on sewing individual patches for everyone."
The short one reddened and lifted his hands up to his sides. "Aw, c'mon. It doesn't look that bad, does it?"
"Eh."
"Oh, like you could do any better!"
Piccolo opened the door of the small dojo they were in and shouted at Hercule, who was in the middle of drinking tea. "Hey, Satan! Get over here!"
With hot tea now burning his face after the scare, Hercule was blinking his pained eyes as he jogged over to his trainer. "What did I do now!?"
"Turn around."
The words sounded more like a command than anything. Hercule grumbled under his breath and showed the back of his maroon robe to the fighters. Krillin raised an eyebrow as Piccolo lifted up a finger. A gold beam shot through it and caused a spot on Hercule's back to glow. When it ended, there was Piccolo's symbol perfectly embedded into the human's clothing.
"What the hell did ya do to me!?" Hercule was spinning around in circles as he tried looking at his back. Ignoring him, Krillin looked at Piccolo with small eyes.
"You can wipe that smug look on your face. Just because you can materialize doesn't make you the better teacher."
"Tch, we'll see about that."
Hercule followed Piccolo out of the dojo without being asked. With the Namek being stubborn and not answering him, the young fighter removed his robe and revealed more of his hairy chest to the world. He stopped walking to study the symbol on his once empty robe. "What is this dang thing!? Am I a gangbanger now!?"
The green being's lips twitched and he had to take a deep breath in and out before turning around. He lifted up the front part of his cape that covered his pectorals to reveal the same symbol. "As much as it kills me, you're in the Demon Clan now. That means you need to stop being so damn clueless, weak, and you better put that robe back on before you make me sick."
Hercule couldn't believe it. He never belonged anywhere before. He did his best not to smile like a crazy man, but it was too damn hard. "Demon Clan, huh? You and me?" He adjusted his robe and wore it proudly. "You come up with that name after me?"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"You know. Satan, demon. Was I the inspiration?"
Piccolo opened his mouth, then closed it. How mortified would his father be knowing what his symbol was being used for? The Namek shuddered to himself and decided to keep moving before he regretted everything. As long as he could teach his new clan a useful technique or two, it wouldn't be so shameful. If the fool behind him could learn how to manipulate ki, there was hope for the rest of them.
"I can't believe we're best buds! That didn't take long, huh?" Hercule continued to ramble. "A whole clan, named after me!"
Piccolo's fist tightened. There was hope as long as he didn't kill them all before the Saiyans arrived.
Oolong's eyes turned to slits as he watched Chi-Chi struggling to pick up a hammer. The crazy Kai's next stage of training was for her to smack a cricket with it. Still in the form of a snake, he could feel the sweat of her neck slipping into his scales.
"Come on, kid! Put your back into it!"
With both hands gripping the handle, Chi-Chi leaned back on her heels. Her entire body was reddening. If she were to pull any harder, both of her damn arms were going to pop off!
How was she going to whack that cricket if she couldn't even lift the hammer!?
"You expect to beat the Saiyans that way!?" Gregory laughed and placed his hands on his hips. "They're gonna mop the floor with ya! Show your strength!"
Through drenched bangs, Chi-Chi stared at her throbbing hands. Gregory was right. If she wanted to do her part in saving the world, she needed to overcome the planet's gravity. Being able to stand and run with ease, her balance was perfected. Now she had to control her muscles. She threw her head back and released a scream from her throat, trying to prove she wasn't giving up.
Oolong's eyes widened as he felt Chi-Chi's body beginning to shake. "Geez, take it down a notch kid. You're gonna give yourself a hernia," her screams grew louder and he winced. "And me a headache."
Feeling a jolt of power coursing in her veins, Chi-Chi grinned as the hammer was finally lifting up. While Gregory's jaw dropped, she studied the weapon with a twinkle of admiration and satisfaction. "I can't...believe..." she spoke with her chest heaving. "I...did...it! I did it!"
"Great job, kid!" the snake was impressed. He set his eyes on the gulping cricket and whispered darkly. "Now smash that bug."
Chi-Chi's smile grew into a smirk as she raised the hammer above her head. Gregory took off through the small planet with the girl right on his wings. He wasn't expecting someone like her to be this fast and was nearly bonked. "Gotta...phew," he looked over his shoulder but quickly faced forward again seeing the crazed look on her face. The things he did for King Kai. "Be faster than that!"
Chi-Chi was going to drop the hammer down again when a sudden chill ran down her spine, causing her to freeze. Across the way, Goku was standing with his palms up high. Bubbles, who was not too far, was inspecting his arms as his hair began moving gently. The blades of grass and tree leaves were doing the same. Chi-Chi herself was feeling slightly woozy, like there was some force extracting a piece of her.
"What did King Kai put in those dumplings," Oolong groaned. He slipped off Chi-Chi's neck. She dropped the hammer to grab him before he could hit the ground. "I don't feel so good."
The princess squinted. It was hard to see at first, but she could now detect glistening strands of the air coming off of every living thing. The strands were gravitating towards Goku's hands to form a glowing ball. That ball continued to get bigger as more was being drawn out.
"Oh my gosh..."
She was star struck. She had never seen something as shiny or as beautiful as what was forming above Goku's head. It was collective energy, all lifeforms of this planet joining as one. The hand not containing Oolong went to her chest to make sure it was still beating. How amazing was it that-
"Aaaa...aaaaa..." Goku's eyes were open now. His nose was twitching from the sensation of a giant sneeze he was unable to control.
"GOKU, NO!" King Kai placed his hands over his head and began hopping from foot to foot. "YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMEBODY!"
"Aaaaaachooooo!"
Goku's hands went forward as he sneezed, sending the sphere in the direction of Chi-Chi. King Kai's screams quickly gave her an answer as to whether she should had absorbed it or avoided it. She slapped it out of the way. The tree that it hit disintegrated on the spot. Chi-Chi and King Kai looked at one another at the same time.
"What..." she blinked. "What was that?"
The Saiyan was jogging over to her. "Sorry Chi-Chi!" he wiped his nose with the back of his hand and stood in front of her. "You sure got quick reflexes."
"Very quick," King Kai mused. He looked at the different faces that had been inhabiting his planet the last few months. How very peculiar it was that this human was able to slap away an attack that could destroy a planet. Granted, it wasn't as big as it should have been, but it was still impressive she wasn't taken away right along with it. "I changed my mind. I want you to fight Goku instead."
"What!?" the teens gawked at the same time. A leaf from the fallen tree landed on Chi-Chi's shoulder and Goku brushed it off for her. The master couldn't ignore the way the girl's face turned red.
"He wood never leaf you," King Kai held his hands to his mouth while he laughed. He was playing match maker and trainer at once. He cleared his throat to get more serious. "I sense a great power within you, Chi-Chi. I'd like to see how you fare in combat against an actual Saiyan."
Chi-Chi scratched the back of her head while glancing at Goku. That sweet dopey face of his always made it hard to believe he came from such a monstrous bloodline. His ki was a lot stronger than hers, but it would be good practice. Much better than having to chase that cricket around. "I'm up for it. What about you?"
Goku was already cracking his fingers and jumping up and down. He could tell Chi-Chi's energy had grown substantially since they arrived to Other World and he had secretly been dying to test it out. "Is it alright if I hit you for real?"
"Ha," Chi-Chi bent her knees slightly. One hand was in the shape of claws near her face and the other had two raised fingers by her temple. The ability to sense ki was starting to become second nature. His had risen slightly when she got into fighting position. "I'd like to see you try."
There was excitement and something else coursing through Goku. He brought himself into his preferred stance as well, an arm low in the front and one high in the back. The hand in the front had two fingers up like Chi-Chi while the one in the back was a fist.
Oolong had slipped down onto the grass and remained unconscious. King Kai moved him out of the way before the battle could begin. "Alright, you two. No holding back."
Goku smirked when Chi-Chi came running towards him at full speed. She had definitely gotten faster. Her hands were like those of a praying mantis rapidly jabbing at him as they danced around in circles. When one struck him in the chest, he rubbed the spot briefly and chuckled.
"What are you laughing at?" she snarled and lifted up a leg to roundhouse him on the side of the head. He knocked it away with his elbow and backed up. They were now apart once more.
"Nothing," he continued to smile and noticed how fast her chest was moving. "Need a break?"
Chi-Chi responded to his question with a growl and a spin kick to the torso. No matter what she did, he either blocked it or her hits didn't do much damage to him. It was frustrating. Right when she was about to strike again, a bright glow was coming from Goku's palm. He mouthed a 'sorry' before blasting her with it. She flew back and landed on her bottom.
What got her the most was that damn smile he wouldn't rid of. He was happy to be beating her. Chi-Chi glanced down at her upward palms while Goku waited patiently for her to come back for more. She closed her eyes to find that inner strength that got her to pick up the hammer earlier.
The Saiyan tilted his head to the side when he felt her ki rise. Her body was illuminated with a faint white light, and when her eyes popped open they we focused sharply on him. Goku gulped when she flew from the spot on the ground to where he was standing. A ki drenched fist collided under his chin and sent him upward. He floated in the sky, rubbing the sore spot and gaping down at her.
"Geez, Chi-Chi! Where'd that come from-"
One, two, three blasts were shot from her hand that didn't seem so little anymore. She was continuing to shoot her ki at him without completely understanding what was happening. The stings of the ones that were making contact with his body was beginning to irritate him. Goku put his fists at his sides. Technically, they were already dead so whatever he did to her wouldn't matter...
Plus, he really needed to practice before the Saiyans arrived...
"What in the world...?" Chi-Chi's attacks ceased when Goku began powering up for the first time. He lowered himself so he was back on the ground with her. The planet and his entire body was shaking and he was grunting as if it pained him. He jaw was clenching and unclenching as the veins in his arms were pulsating. "Hey! Is this that Kaio-Ken technique you were talking about!?"
...And he was going to use it on her!?
She wasn't sure what she was more overwhelmed about - his lethal power level or her boots beginning to sink into the tiny planet.
His agonized screams were making her believe he'd die if he didn't already have a halo. Is this what King Kai was training him to do? If so, how awful! His body underneath the white aura was beginning to burn red. Drenched in sweat, he settled his eyes on Chi-Chi. "Kaio-ken...times...THREE!"
Chi-Chi cried out for help the moment she felt his fist connect to her jaw. It was single handedly the worst ache she had ever felt in her entire life. Goku didn't stop there. He struck her back to knock her higher up and then dropped his fist down like a hammer on her stomach to send her crashing down onto the planet. Stuck in momentary paralysis, Chi-Chi was pinned to the ground and not getting up for hours. Soon after she had fallen, Goku had crashed not too far away.
It was a good thing they were already dead to begin with or recovery time would have never came. Kakarot rolled his body over so he was as close as he could be to Chi-Chi. They turned their heads at the same time, noses now touching. Her face was glistening after giving it her all and she was so...so...
He didn't know the right word.
"You fight..." he panted then grinned through the sweat. "...good."
Chi-Chi couldn't lie. She was disappointed thinking he was going to say something else by the way his eyes searched her. Too tired to think anything of it, she returned his smile with one of her own. "You're not too bad yourself. I still can't believe you did Kaio-ken on me. I...can't believe the damage it can do."
She really couldn't. If he was going to use this against the Saiyans, there was no doubt they were going to win. All Goku needed to do was master it so he wouldn't kill himself all over again.
A ki fueled heartbeat is what he called it.
His hand reached out to cup her cheek and he could feel her skin warming up at the touch. She must have worked out too hard. There were other words he wanted to tell her that were on the tip of his tongue but he just wasn't sure. All he knew was that it was nice being next to her.
And he really, really loved fighting her.
"We should do it again sometime."
Chi-Chi sighed and put her hand on top of his. Now they were both holding her face. She assumed King Kai had taken shelter inside his home because no pun had been made since the fight started. Looking at Goku, she was very sure she wanted to marry this man cluelessness be damned. It also made her wish she could do something as powerful as what he had done.
"Well, I'm beat!" Goku yawned, finally feeling ready to catch up on some rest. Chi-Chi didn't realize she took too long to respond to him. He laid out on his back and placed his growing arms behind his head as a firm pillow. "What a fun day. Goodnight, Chi-Chi."
"Goodnight, Goku."
His yawning was contagious, and although she did a big one, Chi-Chi didn't feel like going to sleep. Witnessing Goku's new strength had made her inspired to work on her ki. She sat crisscross with her palms facing upward as she began to search deep within. That energy that was latent inside of her, waiting for the day she would release her full potential.
An eye of the Saiyan cracked open to see Chi-Chi levitating slightly above the grass in silence. The end of her long black ponytail blew gently against the wind her energy was creating. With her eyes closed, he wasn't sure if she even knew what she was doing right now. Chi-Chi's forehead didn't have a throbbing vein of frustration and her small fists weren't balled up. She was at peace and never looked as great or as strong as she did now, especially considering the beating she had taken moments ago.
Goku furrowed his brows together and looked down at his stomach, wondering why staring at her was making it feel so strange.
A/N: If you can't tell, I love putting Chi-Chi through the craziest shit. xD
