Chapter 9 Catching Pokémon

Ai's POV

I opened the door and saw Kukui.

"Hi Kukui", I greeted.

"Hey there Ai", Kukui greeted. "It's about time we set out for the festival, yeah! But first...Now that you're a real Pokémon Trainer with your own Pokémon and all, I've gotta show you something. Come with me out to Route 1!"

After Professor Kukui said this, he walked outside and my mom walked up to me.

"Have fun at the festival, sweetie", she said. "I'm sure you'll have a good time with your new Pokémon pal! Me and Meowth will be sure to unpack every last box here. You'll see!"

"Mreee", Meowth said.

"Good luck with that", I said before kissing my mom's cheek. "See you later mom. love you."

"I love you too sweetie."

...I walked out the door and saw Kukui waiting for me.

"Ai", he called out. "Hurry it up, cousin! Pretend you're a Pokémon and use your Agility!"

Before I could ask Kukui what he meant by that, he started walking off.

"Wait for me", I yelled.

Then I followed Kukui to some tall grass on Route 1.

"Yeah, over here", he yelled before I walked up to him.

"So you know that wild Pokémon will sometimes jump out at you in the tall grass, yeah", he asked. "Now that you've got Popplio there, you can not only fight wild Pokémon, yeah...you can also try to catch 'em. Woo! I'm going to show you how to catch a wild Pokémon, alright?"

"You're going to show me how to catch a wild Pokémon", I asked.

"That's right", Kukui replied. "Keep your eyes and the prize!"

After Kukui said this...something moved in the grass, and a wild Pokémon appeared!

"Alright", Kukui started before throwing a Pokéball. "Let's go Rockruff!"

With that, Rockruff appeared.

"You gotten weaken a Pokémon before you try to catch it", Professor Kukui revealed. "Rockruff, use Tackle!"

With that, Rockruff tackled the wild Pokémon.

Then, Professor Kukui threw a Pokéball at it...and caught it!

"Oh yeah", he exclaimed before picking up the Pokéball.

"That was amazing", I stated.

"Thanks", Professor Kukui said. "Wild Pokémon do sometimes attack people if they get close, but catch 'em and they'll join your team and be a great help to you, yeah! But if your Pokémon get all tuckered out by fighting for you, just head home for a bit. If you ask your mom, I'm sure she'll let you and your whole team rest up at home. Or you could use some Potions! Here're some Pokéballs and Potions to get you started out."

"Thank you so much", I said as I took the items.

"No problem", Professor Kukui said. "Why don't you have a little adventure of your own on the way to Iki Town, yeah?"

"My own little adventure", I asked. "Will I be fine on my own?"

"I'm sure you will with that Pokémon of yours", Professor Kukui replied. "Take good care of Ai, Poppilo!"
