Chapter 11: Excess

"Wake up, Sora," Kairi urged, shaking him.

"...Huh? What?" he said groggily, blocking sunlight from the nearby window.

"We missed the post-credits teaser!"

Slightly ticked, Sora asked, "Movies still do that?"

"Yeah—look!"

Hitting play on her phone, Kairi showed off the ass-end of the credits, and both watched in either anticipation or one-eyed irritation.

The sound of something getting slammed over and over again came from the black screen. There was totally some grunting happening too. Finally the screen changed to Cal punching the camera multiple times, glaring hard.

Then, he stood up and stomped the screen black. It wasn't over, as the scene changed to him looking around at a bunch of floating hearts. Evidently, he was still in that mostly white and snowy environment, and he was being ambushed by at least two or three dozen floating, ashen human hearts.

So anyway, he started blasting, watching those hearts disintegrate one by one from the power of his stolen shotgun. From his flank, one heart tried rushing up on him, so he pistol-whipped that out of existence, and as he blasted away the last of them, the landscape suddenly became assaulted by at least a thousand floating hearts. Some glowed pink.

Holstering his gun inside his coat, Cal dared to hypothesize, "Okay...I'm guessing some of these aren't mine."

After the screen cut to black, a new voice laughed, and he sounded hella menacing as he said all super echoey, "The lost souls have found their new leader, it seems."

And then the clip ended. Kairi was the first to express her disappointment, "Fuck...can I get a ray of hope? A little sunshine?"

"Nope. That's a nope-on-the-hope, and a...none-shine-on-the-sunshine." Sora yawned. "So, when's the sequel?"

"Next Easter, apparently," Kairi informed. "Gosh, I really hope they aren't setting us up for any more...what's the word?"

"Blue balls?" Sora asked.

"...Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's it."

Sora cuddled back into Kairi's pillow, lazily replying, "Well, between now and Easter, that's more than enough time to get their shit together."

Kairi shrugged. "At least it'll come out before the videogame they have planned—"

"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!"
